Me and cold air just don't mix. Whenever I breathe cold air, my nose runs. A coat does not fix it. Cetirizine helps, but doesn't really take effect until one hour later.

Taking ideas from Hacker News is dangerous.

Do your heaters even work? I remember one of the dorms (off campus) have a system that has to be switched between heating and cooling and there was a really cold day after they switched to cooling and they got a lot of complaints but there wasn't much they could do since they'd turned off the furnace.

@SFTP Didn't they do that already?

@Catija Yes, they do. They "don't" have thermostats, but I found one underneath the panel above the intake.

@Catija What triggers your allergies here, if any?

For me, it's cold air, dust mites, and (lo and behold) cats.

@SonicWizard I don't pay enough attention to what allergens are around to know, really... and I'm going to assume that the allergies aren't that bad, since I don't really ever take meds for them.

@Catija Here I'm fine on most days, only a few times do I need to take cetirizine. In India, however, it can be a nightmare if I miss it.

FYI if someone complains about not being able to award existing answers immediately, I'd tell them to wait the full seven days before awarding, so that the answer can receive more upvotes due to the added attention.

It's a CW... so I'm not sure why that matters.

This stems from an actual case on Stack Overflow, where a bountier decided to wait the full seven days before awarding me a bounty on my existing answer

Yeah, well, that's great until they decide to wait so long that you never get the bounty at all or only get half. I've rarely benefited from upvotes due to a bounty on a question I've answered.

No

Only mods can see deleted comments and we have to click a button to reveal them.

Why are mods restricted from undeleting comments that were voluntarily deleted? Can SE employees undelete them?

No clue. We also can't undelete comments that were deleted by flags.

Generally, the concept is, comments are temporary, if the OP doesn't want it there any more, there's no need to override that.

If you really want to have that comment text there, someone else can post it.

@Catija So mods can't reverse comment deletions that users conspired to remove by coordinating and flagging them?

.. or just delete the entire chain.

@SonicWizard We can only undelete mod deleted comments... which, amusingly, includes us deleting our own comments.

So, any comment that a mod wrote, can still be undeleted, even if they deleted the comment themselves because the mod status of the user trumps the self-deletion.

@SonicWizard I have no clue. I'd hope not. It'd be difficult to catch unless mods are looking at deleted posts regularly or the user who posted it complains.

I'm sure it happens but I'd bet that, when discovered, the punishment is severe.

Yes.

As the adage goes, with the exceptions of merges and account deletions, nearly everything is reversible.

Tag merges only, right? Post merges can be reversed, though?

@SonicWizard Post merges can not be reversed. I don't know about tag merges... if you don't synonymize, the merged tag can still be used and you can remove a synonym.

@Catija I know, tag merges cannot be reversed. Shog posted about that recently.

I mean, you can go back to using the tag again... You'd have to manually replace the old tag, though.

@Catija Yeah, but tag merging also involves rewriting history to say that the merged tag was the original one, and you can't revert the timeline back

I don't think most people really care about that.
