maybe greyhound is working with drug dealers and wipe out previous month's record as to make it easier for the drug dealer to escape ... it's possible

Rob
@FTP What's greyhound?

@Rob american bus service
I guess kinda like national express?

Rob
Ah, right

"chinatown buses" are like megabus ;p
(... also I assumed that someone was british. Which is slightly silly)

Rob
Still in the commonwealth.. so close enough ;)

12:22 AM
well I don't know bus companies anywhere else ;p

user202362

user202362
but you need to be sufficiently light

Ano
1:42 AM
@JourneymanGeek Megabus exists in the US too. I heard it's better than Greyhound for travel within Texas.

ah
I'm neither british nor american. I've used megabus in the UK and it was pretty good ;p

2:15 AM
I got my hat swag!!!

that was quick

:D

I don't think mine's shipped yet
SO corp usually sends tracking ;p

I never got a shipping email!
I don't even see anything in spam.
Got mine today, thanks! — rogerdeuce 2 days ago
Apparently it wasn't fast... someone got theirs on Saturday?
I sort of wonder if the stuff is specific to the user... Which would be really sweet.

user202362
I am hoping for Jan 26 + 8 weeks

2:24 AM
whatchaget?

user202362
swag

Shirt, notebook, nalgene bottle, sharpie, pen, patch, plus some site-specific stickers (for sites I use) and a ton of SE stickers... but I think those are from the Charcoal swag, not from this.

proper nalgene bottle or the orange sippy one?
wait...
patch?

@JourneymanGeek It's an iron-on patch with the SO logo on a velcro upper later? so it's a two-layer patch?

oh my god. SO MUCH LOVE.
I've never heard of SO patches before.
the ton of SE stickers is 'standard'
I have a pile of SU and SE stickers somewhere

2:28 AM
@JourneymanGeek It's branded "nalgene" no sippy thing... you have to open it.

user202362
last time I only got 1 sticker

oh those are better
I have the SU varient

user202362
moderators tend to get tons of stickers

@TelautonomousKitty naw, I kinda won something in nearly every SU competition, when that was a thing.

Actually, looking at it, it's a SE patch... it's weird, though. The logo is not quite the SE logo... it's got a diagonal line through it and the colors on either side of the line are different. The lower half is the normal SE colors and the upper half is brighter.

2:30 AM
maybe had problems matching the colours?

user202362
:/

It looks pretty intentional... let me get a photo.

meta question time? ;p
(cause I am totally not going to begrudge someone the chance to totally beat my ass in the rep leagues get an answer to a important question like that)

Oh... it's actually really similar to the SE logo in the iPhone app...
But I'd never noticed the diagonal line on the site.

ah
.... that is so cool
(I'm a bit crazy about patches ;p)
also I kinda DIY velcrotise most of my patches
heh @va

user202362
2:33 AM
well, maybe the amount of stickers one gets is proportional to the number of upvotes the answer get minus the threshold :p

@TelautonomousKitty naw, I think they just grab a stack and throw it in

user202362
Oo I got those

ya, that looks like a "close enough" fit to the SE logo/favicon ;p

user202362
wait, I didn't get any stickers, only this last time

2:35 AM
:D

(machine embroidery is cool but strange)

Yeah, and only so many colors of thread.

Weird that I never noticed the diagonal line, though.

I have an embroidery of my dog somewhere ;p

2:36 AM
HAHA.

but the software is kinda shit
I'd be doing a lot if there was something that would convert a SVG to what my mother's sewing machine uses

Your mom must have a really fancy sewing machine!

she also has a 70/80ss new home sewing machine with pastic cams for different stitches
its good fun

Nice! So I guess she likes sewing?

kinda? Used to sew a lot
she's doing more cross stitch these days

2:51 AM
Not so much any more?
So hand embroidery, then?

well, she dosen't have as many reasons to sew yup!
(If you're a cross stitch nut, there's really good software for converting images to cross stitch around ;p)

Ano
@Catija You should have done an unboxing video

There was no indication of who it was from, so I wasn't sure what it was... and I was hungry and wanted to eat dinner.

lol
unless they changed shipping agents, I actually recognise the address they ship stuff from
no one else would send me packages from MA :p

Ano
For a long time I thought this was an unofficial logo being used on SEDE, but I looked in WayBackMachine and saw it was an actual SE logo before it was changed.

2:55 AM
the stickers look exactly like that

Ano
Which stickers?

user315433
There are some really quiet sites moderation-wise, @John. These flags might be all that keep some mod-teams from going stir crazy. The Diamond Madness, they call it - one day you stumble on a lonely forgotten cabin in the woods, perhaps to take shelter from the driving snow, and upon opening the door you see the desiccated corpse in the blue hat... bony fingers still clutching that last flag. — Shog9 ♦ 4 hours ago

The SE stickers

Ano
The ones that came in the recent swag shipment?

the one I have not gotten yet? unclear ;p
the ones I got in a previous swag shipment?
Yup!

Ano
2:57 AM
When was that?

Ano
@SmokeDetector Markov-chaining "good" titles.

@JourneymanGeek Still MA. STEX (Printex), Inc.

Was my 100k swag

Ano

@SmokeDetector tpu-

(before I spark rumours of 10k swag)

Ano
I believe I deserve swag for my years of anonymous editing.

they probably didn't know where to send it.

Ano
What?

Well technically who to send it to.

Ano
3:01 AM
Wait, so the 2017 shipment actually used that logo?

Also, I donno man, having accountability for who posted stuff is good

Ano
With the weird corner and lack of a diagonal line?
@JourneymanGeek February 2017 constitutes "recent" in my definition.

They still send out old SO logo stickers, too...

@Ano wanted to ensure a lack of ambiguity

Ano
@Catija With six bars?

3:03 AM
there's a SUPER slight gradient

@Ano Yeah... with the gradient from grey to orange.

Ano
@JourneymanGeek No, the corner is not the same.
I'd like to see a sticker that looks like this:

Ano
Maximum Professionalismâ„¢

is that the dyslexic edition or the we hate you but we cannot say so edition?

Ano
3:06 AM
What?
Now, how else would I know of the post that houses these images?

@Ano That font is awful.
KILL IT!!!

Ano
Then why didn't Microsoft Bob use it? After all, Comic Sans was invented specifically for use with Microsoft Bob. — user215114 Nov 12 '13 at 5:58

some dyslexics find comic sans easier to read
I personally favour Arial or the source family of fonts.
(since grumble its impossible to obtain what I consider to be the 'perfect' dyslexic font)

@gparyani Definitely didn't mean to offend you with the answer -- attracting eyes generally helps a question. And a good way to attract eyes on meta is to be witty in meta-style. I wasn't seriously proposing using Comic Sans, I just wanted to propose a ridiculous solution to the problem.
@Catija ^^
@Shog9 Does R&E count under "rejected" or "improved" under "[user] approved [x] edits and rejected [y] edits and improved [z] edits"? How about prior "Improve" actions where the user unchecked "suggested edit was helpful"?

3:24 AM
...what?

Reject and Edit?

Reject and edit is what it says - it rejects when you submit an edit

@Ano Considering the first word there is "reject" I"m going to go with "reject".

Ano
@Shog9 So it counts as a "rejected" edit? What about older ones where one clicked "Improve" and unchecked "suggested edit was helpful"?

I don't recall how or if the actions prior to its introduction were indicated, or if they were indicated at all. They don't entirely map cleanly to the new actions - you couldn't really reject and edit.
you could search SEDE for this & try to figure it out

Again, I would appreciate it if I got a reply or ping whenever you respond to one of my messages. I'd prefer to be notified of that.

I'm doing multiple things at once, from multiple browsers on three different machines including my phone. If I have to put more thought into this, I won't put any.
If I reply tomorrow to a message posted now, it will definitely have a reply arrow next to it for context; so, that becomes a self-solving problem.

Mark HendersonI refer you to one user's exceptionally exciting life: Jan 17: Gets fired by an intoxicated boss, but just went back to work anyway to find out he has a new manager Jan 26: Wasted a lot of time at work making an inappropriate video about themselves as a "joke" for their new manager ...

3:44 PM
@gnat I'm surprised we haven't noticed more of this on the network.

I find the OpenID post somewhat confusing. If I'm currenly logging in with an email and password that is indicated on My Logins as Stack Exchange, am I impacted by the ending of OpenID support? Only if I use openid.stackexchange.com to logon somewhere else, say outside of the SE network, right?

user315433
Same question here, I think it should be posted there on meta. I distinctly recall going to openid.se site in the process, so the fact of it being deprecated makes me worry.

user315433
My understanding was that when I provided (totally fake) email and password, an OpenId was created for me by SE. Was that since converted to another form of auth?

Can both of you check what's listed on your profile's My Logins? Mine says "Stack Exchange" with an email address, which when I tried to add the same e-mail address, it's said that it has been used.
I don't/can't remember if I created SE OpenID before though...
But I still remember that I added e-mail login (SE OpenID???) in 2013, when my office blocked Google for login on SE

5:39 PM
@HTTP This is what I have for Kenny: i.stack.imgur.com/lLxv8.png and that also gave me access to that Openid endpoint: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/251788/…

@rene pretty much the same

I'm really confused, too... All I have is a Google Login that I don't use... I only added it so that CMs could see my Gmail address, which is the one I use, rather than my junk mail address which is the one I have for logging in.

I guess SE creates both e-mail login and its OpenID at the same time
because I can't add the same email again with their provided login-add link

@HTTP that is what needs to be verified / confirmed

@JF SE OpenID accounts are really email/pw accounts handled through complicated OpenID code path. They will be migrated to a more simple email/pw only code path as a part of this change. No extra work required on your part. — Joe Friend ♦ 5 mins ago

email/password and SEOpenID are the same system, just a different UI.

@HTTP sounds like it

But why don't email/PW logins show up on the list of logins?

@Catija they should? See my screenshot earlier (here: chat.meta.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/6746513#6746513)

They don't...
I promise, I've logged in more recently than May of 2016.

Q: Should we initiate assisted dying?

Narusan-in-comaHealth.SE is dying. Continuing the medical analogies, we are suffering from multiple organ failure: bad questions bad answers not enough activity by experienced users not enough experienced users We are slowly entering dangerous territory where bad answers (like a recent example from me) gath...

Health is death. Health died.

@Catija Hmm, maybe logins are per site? How does it look on your main site?

Anonymous
@Catija Urg. This is going to be a mess to clean-up. It might be suppressing the SEOID because it has the same address as the Google one. (Is that the case?) I hope it's at least tracking it as a separate credential internally, not just ephemerally.

Anonymous
Gonna be some nasty migrations... mind you, they couldn't possibly be nastier than the HandleSuccess() crap this will get rid of.

RIP mini-sites.

@Shog9 You have your own login credentials for your website?

@Catija I used to
Keep in mind, I've kinda been here a while
when SO first launched, there was no SE OpenID
To log in, you had to have an external OpenID provider

Anonymous
This is hardly the first or only case, but the existence of the IOTA site irritates me because the IOTA developers and community are in a big ongoing fight with every credibly security researcher in this space. Their behaviour is awful, anti-intellectual, and delusionally arrogant. They have ignored all existing research, and tried to reinvent the world from first principles without applying any of the hard-earned knowledge of the last decades, and have produced an awful mess.

At the time, you could use LiveJournal (who kinda invented it?), or MyOpenID or... maybe Yahoo? There were a bunch of others at various times.
OR, you could set up your own
You could even have what was known as a delegated OpenID through your own domain, where you'd log in with, say, LiveJournal but the site you were logging into saw "shog9.com" or "shog9.com/knives" or "shog9.com/happylittlesockpuppet"
Which was very convenient

Anonymous
7:51 PM
IOTA developers: rather than using a one of the standard hash functions that has had thousands of manhours poured into it, we'll invent our own, which is defined in base 3 (because it's theoretically more efficient than base 2), and tuned by an "AI" that we also invented. The result was not secure, so they moved the goalposts on security. At which point it became clear that they didn't even have a coherent security or decentralization model. Still "worth billions", though!

Because when it worked properly, you could switch up the underlying provider without having to update your logins on every destination site: MyOpenID dying? No prob - switch up your delegation to LiveJournal and ... do nothing else. All your sites just keep working.
I don't know how to communicate just now nice that was back then.
Every other site was like, "hey, give us your email address and password and username and ... and we'll let you log in, and maybe not lose your password but probably will spam you and sell your personal info"

SO was, "hey, give us an opaque ID and nothing else - we'll defer handing your actual credentials to a 3rd-party of your choice and only send you emails if you later decide to give us a valid email address"

Anonymous
Delegation was awesome. I'm sad that's been lost. :(

For me at least, that was a major reason to give Jeff & Co the benefit of the doubt about their new service.
I didn't have to trust them with anything else. They didn't beg for more info, or demand it, or really do anything to make it necessary in order to be a first-class user - I provided content and as much or as little personal info as I felt appropriate, and the system respected that.

Now days, with everyone's dirty laundry hung out on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram for the world to see... I guess that's not much of a motivation for most folks.

That, plus the licensing, sent a very different message than the alternatives out there. It was inspiring.

It was like... "Hey, here's a site that actually respects me. Not just lip service, but actions."

And Jeff was a great spokesperson for that side of things, even if he may not have been a perfect ace in ongoing community management.

Probably depends to some degree on the types of users, too... More users like me who wouldn't even know how to set that up in the first place... less demand for it?
