@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog practically most status tags probably should be left to staff, except when there's an excellent reason

12:33 AM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog why do you even need evidence?
Like do you collect stuff in case you need to use it against people or something? 😁

Yeah, I made it to the office ;)

Dang... missed two coffees due to blood test. Should I drink three in a row now to compensate? ;)

@ShadowWizard Try boba tea

@Tinkeringbell did you show them your new diamond? :D
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog old habits die hard.. I do have a good tea in office, it's just.. well... not coffee. :)

8:05 AM
@ShadowWizard Heh. Not many people are interested in diamonds here. I don't think many people even know about SO, let alone the rest of the network ;)

@Tinkeringbell but if they have girlfriends or married, they can have good use for a diamond.... :P
I bought a good one when proposing. ;)

@ShadowWizard I thought diamonds were for the sole use of the account holder?

@ShadowWizard diamonds are a girl's best friend. Occasionally at the tip of a drill :p

Think it was clarity level of I or something? Don't remember full details. Just the price. o_O

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog It's a joke

8:06 AM
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog of course not! :D
@JourneymanGeek shhhh let me keep it little longer... ;)

@ShadowWizard or one, 3x the size.

@JourneymanGeek I'm referring to an internal bias that may have crept in there

@ShadowWizard I am still waiting for a diamond ring :P Over three years now XD

@JourneymanGeek good idea... but the only container big enough is the SO mug... and it has shekels in it. :(

These kinds of things just glare at me.

8:07 AM
@Tinkeringbell oooh? :p

@JourneymanGeek well, I bought only one for my gf/wife. :)

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog then glare back

@JourneymanGeek Hurts my eyes ;)

But do remember that not everyone is literal

@Tinkeringbell eh, diamond rings are unethical and uneconomical

8:09 AM
@JourneymanGeek When I started programming, I used my first salary to buy a set of jewelry. I had a cheap ring that I really liked, so I asked the lady if she could custom make one for me in rose gold and with a real diamond. She said she could, but never finished it :P

Ahhh alas

@Tinkeringbell you know you can... take the first step... or last step... mumble ;)

@ShadowWizard Oh, I did call on the jewelry shop a few times to ask if it was ready XD

@Magisch pfft. Also carbon

@Tinkeringbell ohhh thought you meant a secret bf you never told about! :P

8:10 AM
@ShadowWizard Nah. If there ever will be a bf I'll most likely be so excited I can't shut up :P

@Tinkeringbell we have a few places that do custom work my mom knows. Thankfully reliable.

@JourneymanGeek I'm serious btw, anyone buying actual non-artificial diamonds is contributing to one of the worst human rights abuses currently ongoing

@JourneymanGeek Would she fly to Singapore to get one?

@Tinkeringbell will be glad to hear! :D

@ShadowWizard Of course you will :P You're worse than a gossipy great-aunt! XD

8:11 AM
@Magisch just don't let something bad happen to you over this... not worth it.

@Magisch ah. I think I know what you mean.

world is bad. We know it. We can't fix it.

@ShadowWizard you can be aware and take a stand
@Magisch some stuff's inherited though

Not buying diamonds is extremely easy and doesn't have any negative consequences

@JourneymanGeek and ruin your life over this? Nah... not my cup of tea coffee. :)

8:12 AM
Well...I'm ace, so I'm not willingly participating in activities that might require me to hand diamonds to others.
@Magisch How about pencils?

@JourneymanGeek hence qualifying with "Buying" instead of "owning"

@Magisch same can be said about not eating meat... not drinking milk... not driving a car... and 10000 other things.

@Magisch oh agreed there

@Magisch Secondhand purchases, though?

@Magisch I was assured the one I'd buy wouldn't be a blood diamond ;)

8:13 AM
Such promise is moot and useless. Really.

those bloody diamonds

@ShadowWizard yes but all of those incur significant inconvenience on you to take a stand on
not buying diamonds is free

We can't know where a diamond came from.

@Magisch actually even a lot of legit mines have poor pay and working conditions

in fact, it actively saves you moneys

8:14 AM
If you want to be a proud owner of carbon, no need to wear a diamond on your finger. Just carry a pencil in a shirt pocket.

@Magisch despite the stigma... I think the idea of artificial ones is cool tho

It'll have the same effect in terms of embellishments.

@Magisch what about China? It's said employees there are also slaves in horrible conditions. So we should not buy anything made in China?
and Amazon is even worse.

Man took a lump of coal, then pressure-cooked it ..

@ShadowWizard Again, if it doesn't inconvenience you at all to be ethical in your purchases, then sure why not

8:15 AM
@JourneymanGeek He got on Santa's naughty list?

When that fat man gives you coal... Turn it into diamonds.

or don't, coal is quite useful on its own, just look at charcoal

@Magisch amusingly I assumed the same as @ShadowWizard

@Magisch Yep, produced an excellent spam-fighting bot.

@Magisch my point is that if I'll start thinking about those things, I'll have to stop buying everything, stop driving (it pollute the world) and stop using technology since electricity also cause pollution.

8:16 AM
@Magisch hah... There's a few odd products

@ShadowWizard or ... you can do as much as you reasonably can without changing your life too much

So... living in a cave and living on water and maybe some fruits. :)

Apparently coconut husk makes the best charcoal for filtering

@Magisch so what's the point? Why stop with only this? It's pointless if not done "to the end", IMO.

reduce unnecessary driving, reduce food waste, maybe buy food in season locally rather then imported (not always feasible). For non-necessary purchases maybe spend a small amount of time on ensuring it's ethically sourced

8:18 AM
@ShadowWizard actually there's a broader point with diamonds

You can't be perfect of course, but a difference is a difference

It's one of the last few monopolies and supply is controlled

@Magisch I have one thing that really annoys me when I see people ask for that... and that's that they're putting the responsibility on consumers to consume less, instead of on producers to produce better :/

@Tinkeringbell ya

@Tinkeringbell It is a two edged sword. Producers only really produce what consumers consume

8:19 AM
Make fixable stuff at least an option

And the only way the average person can influence a market is with their purchases
I have no power over what my grocery store orders and sells, but I have power over what I buy. If I don't buy imported out of season vegetables, and a bunch of other people also don't, whoever does the stocking of the grocery store will naturally by virtue of not wanting to buy vegetables nobody will eat, stock less of the out of season stuff

@Magisch most stuff here is imported cause it's an island ._.

Sure, but that also requires a.) a bunch of other people and b.) a store owner willing to change what they stock. I've seen b gone wrong a lot. :/
So, I'm not as optimistic when it comes to 'if people don't buy it, it won't get stocked'

But we usually get stuff like that from small stores with smaller stock and higher turnover

In reality, stuff gets stocked, people buy it because there's no alternatives, and if people stop buying it because they lose interest or whatever, it goes on sale and still gets sold.
Just take a look at e.g. women's clothing stores.
Everything in there is short sleeved, see-through thin and required 5 layers to stay warm. Yet stores don't stock sweaters, so people buy that crap :/

8:26 AM
A politician once used their political influence to coerce a commercial airline to keep an unprofitable route in operation, despite little people buying tickets.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Link at end of answer (60): html теги и атрибуты, jsoup by А Б on ru.stackoverflow.com

So yes, low demand doesn't necessarily mean that it's not stocked anymore.

@Tinkeringbell If nobody buys it and the store owner continues stocking it, the store will eventually close
literally the only thing you can count on mattering is money. The only way companies will abandon profitable but unethical business practices is if consumers make them unprofitable

@Magisch True, but then we're back at a. There's many people buying stuff just because they need something, and that's the only option available.
The times I went to shop for winter clothes and came home with anything but a warm sweater can't be counted on one hand.

I don't disagree

8:35 AM
@Magisch But in the above case, that airline kept running an unprofitable route at the behest of a politician, despite little consumer demand

my original argument was that nobody needs diamonds
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog The airline calculated the blowback or regulatory exposure from not running the route would cost them more then just running it

@Magisch Are you saying I'm unnecessary?!

@Magisch Perhaps not ;) Well, then rest assured I never got mine :P

@Mithrandir well you aren't your diamond are you
or am I talking to compressed carbon?

You don't know what they do to you. You don't know, man. You can't know.

8:42 AM
Uhoh... Mith has reached a breaking point. Pass the ductape!

Mmmmm! Mmm mm!

@Tink hurry, join your diamond with @Mith's to prevent it from breaking! :D

Diamonds unite!

by your powers combined you shall become a .... slightly larger brittle chunk of compressed carbon

entangles diamonds

8:52 AM
@Magisch actually if you think about it -a perfect mod dosen't need their powers
:p
We evolve from relying on then to slowly needing them less and less
As a newbie RO here an essential step was winning the trust and respect of other users. On SU chat, I could probably drop my diamond and handle things mostly the same
Ugh. Don't mind me lol. Bored and drinking terrible cofee

Get better coffee...

It's army coffee
It's almost drinkable if you throw in 3 packs of sugar and that much creamer

@JourneymanGeek We were appointed here to clean up off-topic posts, mainly. That can be done without a diamond but is much slower ;)

9:06 AM
Need to try 4 next time but then that's more sugar and creamer than coffee

@JohnDvorak Hi :)

@Tinkeringbell and vaguely be a counter check and cooler neutral heads ..
Ditto

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, I still don't know why they picked a frenzied parrot for that part :P

@Tinkeringbell I have theories :p

Oh, I have too. something, something, chaos monkey :P

9:08 AM
You probably do have the most challenging mod docket

Meh.
Really quiet now, not much to keep me entertained.

Which comes back to not really needing your powers

IPS lost a lion share of it's traffic, even more comments, a lion share of answers and votes
so the mods probably aren't as busy now

@Magisch That, and there seems to be less discussion about answers, answer quality, question quality, scope...

And don't forget, as an elected mod - I've already won the popularity contest and I had experience + other mods to guide me. Beta modding is harder

9:11 AM
@Tinkeringbell I think there are just dramatically fewer active users in general
The site isn't dying, but a lot of core users just stopped

@Magisch hopefully it will recover

@Magisch I actually think some core users stayed. The ones that seem gone were the ones that were prolific answerers, but that you didn't see much on meta or chat?

@JohnDvorak M
@JourneymanGeek why on earth are you drinking army coffee?! :D

@ShadowWizard I was curious. Also wondering if enough sugar makes it drinkable

but to be honest, it is effective. One pitcher full with turkish coffee kept me awake full nights without sleep during army. (drills or guard patrols)

9:17 AM
Oh sadly that is not something we copied from you
This is local coffee, made in a sock

nah, no sock for us. Finjan. I think.
Let's see how it translates...

(nylon strainer)

@JourneymanGeek A sock? Gross!

Coffee needs a little while to give up it's flavor

OMG
I just found I had mistake in basic knowledge for..... 30 years.

9:19 AM
Don't worry. You'll survive :P

@Tinkeringbell Yeah, but we kinda needed those

I thought the word פינג'ן in Hebrew (Finjan) means a small pitcher with which we make turkish coffee. It's not!! Turns out ג'זווה is the actual word! /cc @Mithrandir
A cezve is a small long-handled pot with a pouring lip designed specifically to make Turkish coffee. It is traditionally made of brass or copper, occasionally also silver or gold. In more recent times cezveler are also made from stainless steel, aluminium, or ceramics. == Name == The name cezve is of Turkish origin, where it is a borrowing from Arabic: جذوة‎ (jadhwa). Other regional variations of the word cezve are jezve, čezve, and xhezve. In Ukrainian and Russian the word is spelled джезва (where it exists alongside турка, IPA: [ˈturkə]). In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia...
We used those in army, brought from home of course ^

*shrugs* I've never heard of either of those words

@Mithrandir you never heard the word פינג'ן? Hmm... well thinking about it maybe I've heard it only in army too.

9:22 AM
(re-insert shrug)

Or my brother's army which was 7 years before my own. :)
@JourneymanGeek is it turkish coffee? Or filter?

@Magisch I dunno. Yes, we can use good answers. Do we need people that answer everything? I'm not so sure.

@ShadowWizard neither

@Derpy Where did you get your rumours?

@JourneymanGeek You saw the countdown site right? You noticed the "wool" styled logo?

@Derpy where you saw those rumors?
@Derpy and hearts

@Derpy Oooh. I hope it's a snuggy.

9:28 AM
@Derpy ahhhh

@JourneymanGeek for me it is. Tried dozens in USA, Canada, Spain, and Greece. ALL were just terrible for me. Maybe because I'm used to instant or Turkish coffee. :)

@ShadowWizard that ain't filter coffee

@JourneymanGeek I heard that wool and knitting is the theme this year. Supposedly, @Tinkeringbell offered to make some hand-made wool sweaters for the swag prizes

@JourneymanGeek it's a coffee made with a filter... ;)

Or... We need to hunt sheep instead of chickens....
@ShadowWizard nuuu

9:29 AM
@Derpy and @Catija offered to make hat cakes as swag prizes? ;)

@Derpy You got that wrong :P I don't make sweaters, and wool is itchy! :P

Now she's not working full time, she does have the time.... :D

I could do a crochet unicorn XD

True story: my mother once made a wool cloth for my sister's parrot.
It didn't end well... poor parrot couldn't fly with it.

9:31 AM
@ShadowWizard Duh. That cloth probably weighed as much as the entire parrot XD

@JourneymanGeek huh. Never tried this one... when I come to visit, will you make me this coffee? ;)
@Tinkeringbell lol... probably!

@ShadowWizard my mom would be offended if we did not

It was during some really cold winter we had, it even reached 0 degrees and almost snowed.
Many trees died from the cold. :(

@ShadowWizard it even reached 0 degrees doesn't sound to bad XD
We had a week with temps close to -15 last winter

@Tinkeringbell for a place used to 10 degrees as the minimum? :)

9:33 AM
@ShadowWizard I'm coming over soon :P
What's the max in summer?

@JourneymanGeek :-)
@Tinkeringbell o_o
@Tinkeringbell my area or Israel in general?
My area "only" 40, whole Israel 48 and even 50. (Eilat)

@ShadowWizard Let's do general. But pick the most moderate spot, I don't like too hot XD
@ShadowWizard Ugh, that's too hot. Okay, bird migration it'll be.

But average is around 30, in general. :)

@ShadowWizard Still too hot. I like 25 ;)

Up here it's usually nice...

9:36 AM
@Tinkeringbell oh, maybe in the north of Israel where it's higher than ground level. :)
(Galil, probably there's Wiki)

Or the Golan, where I am ;)

Galilee (Hebrew: הגליל‎, transliteration HaGalil); (Arabic: الجليل‎, translit. al-Jalīl) is a region in northern Israel. The term Galilee traditionally refers to the mountainous part, divided into Upper Galilee (Hebrew: גליל עליון‎ Galil Elyon) and Lower Galilee (Hebrew: גליל תחתון‎ Galil Tahton). In the modern common usage, Galilee refers to all of the area that is beyond Mount Carmel to the northeast, extending from Dan to the north, at the base of Mount Hermon, along Mount Lebanon to the ridges of Mount Carmel and Mount Gilboa north of Jenin to the south, and from the Jordan Rift Valley to...

@ShadowWizard But those are more likely to have cold winters?

@Mithrandir until @Tink will arrive... good chance we won't have it anymore... :(

define "cold"
No way, Israel's not giving the Golan back

9:37 AM
@Mithrandir Anything under 20

@Tinkeringbell hmm.. well, yeah.. it reach below 0 there.

That's a very narrow definition...

@Mithrandir I know. I'm picky...

It's 18 now.

@Mithrandir people said that about יהודים לא מפנים יהודים and refused to believe it will happen. And it did. So.... we can't know for sure.
I'm not at all supporting this, just saying it can happen.

9:39 AM
@Tinkeringbell parrots do have very specific temperature requirements

The Golan is too strategically important.

@Mithrandir well unless everyone simultaneously decided to play nice

@Mithrandir we'll see in 6-8 years. :)

It'd be a very unwise move...

@JourneymanGeek it's not about nice... it's much more than that. :)

9:40 AM
@Magisch That suits me then ;)

@Tinkeringbell didn't you once linked me a site with mlp crochet patterns?

@Derpy Perhaps? Can't remember ;)

I have so many patterns just on my pc, and then there's the ones on the internet ;)

No mlp there in the pic

9:42 AM
@ShadowWizard the minions.... bane of humanity, plagiarism at its finest

Oh... this!
@Derpy more than Harry Potter?

@ShadowWizard Harry Potter... which series/book did H.P. copy?

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in body, potentially bad keyword in body (98): For achieving fastidious results by ovly on wordpress.SE

@Derpy not a single book. The whole concept. Maybe it's just me though... :/

@ShadowWizard I can live with a "copied concept". That is not new in books.... Eragon is basically "fantasy Star Wars with dragons", and yet that is not its greater flaw (being boring and filler-filled is probably worse...)
The minions instead are a full plagiarism copy of a similar character, then rewritten into a constant source of "toilet/uncouth " humor

9:48 AM
Someone in here doesn't like minions ;)

@Derpy huh. That's not fair indeed.

Hey, a lego thingy

@Tinkeringbell Nope. I don't like plagiarized Servbot.

@Derpy But Servbot looks like plagiarized lego?

9:52 AM
@Tinkeringbell that is on purpose, I think it started with a joke about Rockman Dash development, someone said Rockman looked like lego.
the point is not the design
the thing that bugs me is that they basically took the servbot - which even in the original source are the assistants / workforce of a self proclaimed super evil trio, changed them a little while keeping them very recognizable (same color pattern, same purpose etc)
And then turned them into a source of somehow vulgar jokes.
But yep, that is one thing that always gets my nerve

@Derpy How are banana's vulgar? :P
I personally think there's likely to be enough differences (or there would've been a court case already)

@Tinkeringbell like I said, that's just my personal view, and I try to not force anyone into buying it. That said. if a court case wasn't made for Disney's Atlantis, I can't see how this could deserve one...

@Tinkeringbell it's not about the outside... it's about the inside.... ;)
lol not enough coffee!

BTW... some useful reading, especially for non-native speakers...

10:09 AM
hehe love this one

@ShadowWizard DO NOT! :P

@Mithrandir Was it I that bugged thee?

No.

We actually never were allowed to do things like 'don't, won't, shouldn't' in our English classes. Always write everything out, so do not, will not, should not :P

10:10 AM
@Tinkeringbell so weird! Don't remember my classes at all. Except how the teacher looked. o_O
so no idea if that was the case for me too, or not...

Someone once said "A rose by any other name is still a rose".

@ShadowWizard If there's one thing I was bad at, it was remembering what teachers looked like.

@Derpy smart. :)

Maybe someone should also learn "A meaning by any other spelling is still a meaning"

@Tinkeringbell hehe. :D

10:13 AM
Don't get me wrong, but while I understand that mith surrey didn't mean to give that message, pages like that one seem to have a passive-aggressive feeling to them
Like "English is better! Ye must learn it! How you dare do grammar error. Do you even English, bro?"

I kinda like them. But I grew up with the paper version of such pages when learning how to write ;)

@Derpy well iif such link was posted as a comment under a post with such mistakes without proper explanation, it could be seen as LMGTFY of sort. Otherwise... Not. :)

10:30 AM
@ShadowWizard sadly it is one of those things that I find really hard to keep track of ...
But hey people can get edits?

@JourneymanGeek Yay! :D

@ShadowWizard That's why I also said "I understand that mith surrey didn't mean to give that message". I am pretty sure mith didn't intend any bad, but I am not sure that can said about the author of the site.

I'm at work too. And the best thing is that my annoying co-worker isn't here :D
Soooo much time to chat XD

@Derpy oh that might be.
@Tinkeringbell yay!

@ShadowWizard Jinxed it. Guess who just turned up on skype? :/

So @Tink what you had for breakfast? ;)
@Tinkeringbell nooooo
How should we call him? Bob?

@ShadowWizard Bob doesn't sound annoying enough :P
just co-worker will do. No need to get on a first-name base :P

@ShadowWizard Bread and cheese.
Luckily it's almost lunchtime now ;)
