Command gone :(
Haha. WB's over.

@JakeSymons eh, depends on how you word it - but most of my questions have been "how does this system feature work" or "best practices" or amusingly "site memes"
If you want to talk about an action or something specific to the site - site meta. If its about SE as a system - main meta
there's exceptions of course
If site meta is broken ....

In the end, I didn't post any questions...
But on the other hand, it spawned 2 more questions that I'll ask (in 6-8 time units)

2:46 AM
Were there only 33 hats? So I was fooled by "index 41" or something inside the JavaScript file? :O

user202362
there is no hat now

user202362
33/0 = ∞

@SensibleAlexander Was it an octal number?

@CrazyIvan I was wrong, it was index 38

The rest just raise HatNotImplemented errors.

I remember when Oregon meant something in terms of SE servers. Chat... failovers.

I never knew Oregon data center existed

SEDE moves from Oregon to Denver, also Denver becomes the backup to NY/NJ... what will be left in Oregon? I guess only this chat.
The future has come.

I guess I am kind of person who only sees what I want to see (and being oblivious to everything else happening around)

Any SE employee around?

I can't differentiate between CM/devs/employee, but JNat was active 16 minutes ago on Anime.SE

9:10 AM
@SensibleAlexander It usually says so in their bio

So... yes, JNat was around 16 (+22?) minutes ago
and probably balpha

And also @Shog9

Love and Hate on Stack Exchange: How many times you have received "thanks" and "f*ck off" on this site...

@Derpy Why do you need an SE employee?

Was planning some experiments with the hats api, I wonder if they mind if I use it for a little longer

9:23 AM
usually ask balpha for that? We have some for Stack Eggs either way

Some "experiments", yeah, I'm telling the mods you're hacking the hats!
Mooooooods!!!11

what badge!?
Oh, apparently "Informed", which is good to know, but...

@Stijn I was just looking at the hats a last time

the discrepancy between 33 hats and index 38?

nope, just the hats. Searching for some fun picture to save

9:32 AM
@Derpy .svg (must locate the URL) or .png version?

@Derpy oh, only just realised they're gone :(

@Stijn technically, the api is still running. I was able to restore the hats on the meta site, chat seems to behave a little differently.
that said, I don't want to generate unneeded load so I am turning the greasemonkey script off

oh, I see, can't help then :/

Any folks here with access to the SE blog?
specifically, the image

... what was I doing... browsing Anime.SE chat at the office....

@Bart I suspect the link was to a higher-res version which I cannot recreate without 10k in SU
but thanks for the link
I'll raise an issue

Ah, seems that's no longer up to date anyway. :(

netdna-ssl.com???

hmmmm, no, it seems there's no point in that

Myeah, they seem to have moved back to WP

mneh
I'll just tag them employees

Q: Is the Jekyll blog dead?

RomokuI noticed that the github repo is apparently abandoned and the blog is back to WordPress. I'd be interested to know what were the decisions that led to switching back. Was the content creation process hindered by Markdown + git? Were there growing pains that couldn't be solved?

@TimPost @JNat @JonEricson if I got it right
they can get this to wherever it needs to go

> ... what was I doing... browsing Anime.SE chat at the office....
fixed.

1 hour later…
12:14 PM
Chrome can't handle our (unoptimised) Angular map app because it uses up to 6GB of memory, but Firefox Quantum handles it without problems.
Google has some catching up to do :p

1:00 PM
... 6GB of memory? By a website?

@JohnDvorak web app, not website :p an internal one. Main component is a map, used to view and edit geographical data. Should have been a desktop app, but someone in management decided a browser would be better...
it's unoptimised currently, so hopefully we can get the memory usage down

1:42 PM
@Stijn Apparently ....
Ingredients: 1. 128GB of RAM 2. Fresh boot (I was 1,200 miles away) 3. An Electron app
Nick Craver has you beat ;p

using Electron is cheating :D

It's funny how often I think "I hate that app and its performance" and then figure out it is using Electron

@Stijn just wanting to remind you that given enough TNT Minecraft is completely capable of lagging even on pretty recent machines.....
wait, forget Minecraft.
Given enough cats, Dwarf Fortress beats even that.

@Catija of course!

Bah. A one-liner in Haskell can do it in a split second. Doesn't even need to be compiled.

1:51 PM
@Derpy Not anymore
They introduced a soft entity limit for primed tnt

@Shog9 Happen to know about this?
Dec 17 '17 at 3:58, by gparyani
Back as the anonymous editor, I edited an answer, but wasn't sure of a few things, so I kept them in HTML comments. Can you guys please verify those? https://meta.stackexchange.com/revisions/76284/67

@Magisch modded tnt?

So no matter how big the cube gets you don't get that exponential runaway cpu and memory consumption anymore
@Derpy icbm mod racing red matter singularities work

oh, well, then just use the good old thermonuclear catplosion.

I almost press Ctrl+Alt+L to reformat the text on SE's answer box facepalm

1:58 PM
@SensibleAlexander lock desktop?? Why?

(IDE joke)
Ctrl+Alt+L is to reformat code on IntelliJ IDEs

at least you didn't try Ctrl+K+D

@Derpy that would be very useful :)
maybe SO can integrate VS Code

@Derpy cats, man cats little trouble makers with their beady eyes and fur...

2:03 PM
@Stijn they should just drop custom software, migrate to SharePoint and use the wiki site collection template.

@JourneymanGeek Cats > Dogs

2:19 PM
New years started, time for the yearly taunt. I almost forgot.
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard unless @ProgramFOX removed it, you still have that undiscovered spell to find. Well, it is not like you have any chance of doing that....
yep. If I recall correctly and search isn't tricking us like usual... ye folk didn't had a single chance. :P

2:35 PM
@Derpy too bad... hmm... is the spell given for correctly guessing your gender? ;)

@Magisch that's the Toxoplasma Gondii talking

Oct 22 '15 at 11:19, by Derpy
anyway, here is an (useless) hint, @ShadowWizard. If I recall the award rule I had set, so far there has been only an instance of the prerequisite situation for the spell award to happen. And that situation was triggered by me, far before the spell was even implemented.

Oct 22 '15 at 11:26, by Derpy
Alicorn is an action you can do. This spell is an action you can do in a specific situation

Well the bot was moved several times over the years.... good chance @ProgramFOX removed that part, or it broke at some point... but only he can tell for sure. :)

2:42 PM
Probable
As I said, you need a specific reply to a specific word, so even if it is still there...

is this an ARG? :D

good luck! Even getting the first word to be able to reply will be pretty uncommon :P
@Stijn in the Shadow's Den chat room they usually play a word association game.

yeah I've played a few times, long ago

A bot runs there, configured to reply with word associations drawn from a web site/service
The bot also awards "spells", which basically are "medals" for performing specific actions.
A long time ago, I asked @ProgramFOX to add a specific spell which Shadow would probably like... but I may have made it a little to hard to get....
it is very specific.
the bot would have to say a specific word, and you need to reply with another specific word.
I won't give any other clue, other than it is based on something Shadow once said.

@JourneymanGeek nonsense
kittehs > doggos

2:54 PM
Temmie > all

@Derpy lemme guess the bot is closed source?
Temshop!
Let temmie go to college in temtown
undertale intensifies

@Magisch that's exactly what your brain parasites would make you say

@Magisch take notice: you mention Undertale, and @rene pops out. And he still claims he is unrelated to that other flower....

3:09 PM
backs off silently

@Derpy flowey can also be nice if you go for the pacifist run
also temmie and the temshop is awesome

@Magisch never said the opposite. It is just rene that wouldn't admit he is 20% goat.

@rene is 100% flower

3:31 PM
@Magisch the purple ones from "An Health of Information"?

I've long suspected @rene's real name is Margrietje

After the popular Louis Neefs song ...

@rene apparently this is quite relaxing to listen to while programming

yep

3:49 PM

@Feeds He is being evil today... :/

@rene I never got that. "Ach Margrietje, de rozen zullen bloeien" ... why would a margriet care about roses?

What the poet really meant was ... forget it ...

1 hour later…
5:01 PM
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard Oh I removed that entire spell part from the bot a long time ago /cc @Derpy

6:00 PM
@ProgramFOX :(
You removed all spells?

yea

6:21 PM
got my Hacktoberfest Swag today

2 hours later…
user315433
8:10 PM
@Derpy A great idea comes too late to save Documentation.

8:49 PM
@Shog9 in case you prefer not to go digging for @SonictheAnonymousHedgehog's old edit comments, here is the thing he's not sure about: (I have no clue, guess you're the only one except the devs who can tell for sure)
When you reject an edit that was previously approved, if the new outcome causes the editor to meet the criteria for being banned from editing, they will be banned immediately.
and...
If the editor was banned from suggesting edits, and the new outcome causes them to no longer meet the ban criteria, the ban will be lifted.
(that's about the newly added feature letting OP override reviews)

9:00 PM
That's a feature, isn't it?

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard I know that one is inaccurate. I'd have to check the other one.

9:53 PM
There is an easy bounty on MSE ...

@rene I really, really don't understand them at all... they only have a month left on their suspension.

yeah, it is not clear what this will achieve.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog First one is accurate: ban is applied to qualifying users immediately upon the rejection of an edit (whether that rejection is an override isn't relevant; either they qualify or they don't).
Second one is inaccurate; edit bans are never recalculated. Once banned, you're banned until the ban expires or a moderator manually lifts it.

I don't feel like people should be suspended for low quality contributions

@rene Well... nothing any more...

9:56 PM
@JohnDvorak I don't feel like people should ignore warnings.

@JohnDvorak You think it's better to let them ask a 49th low-quality question and a 50th? Why?

Also, when did you become John?
Now I'm gonna think of a certain loud PC Magazine pundit every time I see you.

Why should the users on a site continually be forced to clean up the crap a single user opts to deposit on the site despite repeated warnings?

shouldn't the Q-ban handle that? That would let them answer and comment.
good point though

The Q ban doesn't catch users with any valuable content... it's only really designed to catch new users.

9:58 PM
Q-ban is based on heuristics. Suspension is based on judgement.

gotcha

That's meta, though. I did upvote, but that was mostly for the q-ban removal part
(but yeah, I've been convinced)

10:18 PM
By my quick count, you've been warned over 120 times across three sites by both moderators and the system itself. You've encountered myriad temporary blocks that come tied to a full page of guidance and links to more extensive guidance. You've had discussions with other users, with moderators, and with staff. I don't think we can do anything more to help you short of writing questions on your behalf, which - believe it or not - we've actually experimented with but which faces massive scaling problems and isn't likely to happen soon. On that note, I'll be removing this OT conversation, @Muze — Shog9 ♦ 1 min ago
So yeah, turns out this was sparked by a healthy helping of both q-bans and suspensions.\

120 times? Whoa!

This is why I rarely trust what a user says when complaining about unfair treatment... the full story usually reveals that they were treated more than fairly, possibly even too kindly.

It is just unfair, that's all.

Unfair that the moderators on SE are kind to problematic users? Yeah... sad world we live in.

10:35 PM
It is so unfair that it becomes unfair to have an unfair discussion about it. It is just unfair, that's all.
This can be a fun night. I won't go to bed till this unfairness is either settled or escalated ;)
I won't try to flag it to get that status-declined tag added. I know when to stop ...

I think it's more

That sounds correct, yeah

user315433

user315433
identify-this-movie: 4013 questions, second most.

11:06 PM
@CrazyIvan That's just the undeleted ones.... probably?
There are tons of deleted ones. It is, by far, the bulk of the site's question traffic.

@Shog9 thanks. /cc @Sonic
@CrazyIvan well, that will reduce their traffic in around 30%, and there were many such questions hitting HNQ.
Guess that site is big and stable enough to take the blow though.

@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard Really? ID questions? I don't think so... ID questions rarely get any answers, let alone multiple, highly voted answers.

@rene buh, that one is a proven troll by now.

noted

One answer is enough to reach HNQ.
(on non-SO sites)
That one feels like a "IN YOUR FACE!" to me. lol :D

11:17 PM
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard Still has to have a lot of upvotes on the answer. Those rarely get much in the way of upvotes and the questions usually get lots of downvotes. In the grand scheme of all M&TV HNQ questions... it's not common... and you have no way to prove me wrong... :P Also, that's not the typical ID question.

@Catija nope. I got few HNQ when Q was at +2 or +3 and answer was also at +3 or so.
And then it start to rise.
The critical part is having the answer fast.

That doesn't change the fact that the average ID question on M&TV is downvoted and closed within hours of being posted and never get answers at all.

@Catija that's true, I guess.

In fact, I'd say the bulk of them fit that description.

@Catija BTW, your network profile is out of synch, with your old avatar.

11:20 PM
@ShadowtheHedgehogWizard Yeah, it's been that way forever. Never changes... and I don't manually fix it.

@Catija why?
It's two clicks away. :)

It's been like that since before I had Ben... which you can tell because it's only Hippo in the avatar. I like the historical significance of it.
