Right now work's decided we need paper request forms, with customer feedback...
@Shog9 complaining is natural.
otherwise it probably means you have stockholm syndrome
Amateur Radio got two new mods, both with triple-digit rep. Scraping the bottom? In particular, Mike Waters has 363 rep. :/ But he gets virtual +1 for having the name of one of my favorite movie characters.
@Gerry ehh, yeah
I wouldn't look at just reputation though
his meta contributions to seem a bit... underwhelming
@Gerry 363 is still borderline top 1% of site though.
He's #60 of 6008.

I have been thinking ... why not give animals cyber brains - I mean cyber brains are all designed for humans (in the movies), but what if people design cyber brains for animals? It's much environment friendly that way (coz animals are recyclable) ... and who wouldn't want to see a chief monkey or a lawn mower pulling husky??

@Gerry and a neat line in the resume: "Cleaning up 800+ answers in sandbox"
@Telkitty I doubt Adam will know, he's not part of the mobile team and afaik not familiar with the process. You can just leave a comment to Brian or Kasra in one of the recent announcements...
(or ask Shog, but guess his time is better spent on better questions... ;))
Also, pretty sure Gerry is (case) sensitive, so he's offended by your small case letter! :D
Who will be the first to post an answer in the now-empty sandbox?
4:49 AM
@SmokeDetector gone
Computer Science Educators reached 100% commitment.
Prepare for yet another dust-collecting beta...
Meanwhile, OctoberCMS has 300 committed users, but they are new to S* network, so it's stuck at 58% after more than a year. It's a question how many are still interested after this long wait.
@ShadowWizard I'm not that enthusiastic about what I'm seeing so far :(
@JourneymanGeek what? context please... since you don't use reply... :/
4:58 AM
You talk about the new app?
Yay! I'm good at guessing ;)
or the old app. It almost feels like questions on the old apps are being ignored :(
@JourneymanGeek not almost, they are. At least android app questions, with 100% ignore rate for the last years. iOS app is much better.
4:59 AM
and maybe I'm reading into it too much but, there's a certain "SO first, everything else seems redundant" vibe in the questions about the new app
That's the main reason I don't even try the new app: why bother??
They don't bother to even reply to bug reports or feature requests.
But it has the sweet Stack Overflow name! It's the magical marketing pixie dust that makes people get it!
@JourneymanGeek yup, I suspect they plan to integrate Jobs into it and make some money, not sure why they didn't do it yet.
(e.g. ads to relevant jobs inside the app)
5:01 AM
yeah, presumably
Guess they wait for numbers, then they can say to the companies "10000 people will see this in-app ad", and require money according to that.
@Gerry that bit has me confused. The side we see/interact with in SE is awesome. A lot of the neater stuff seems to be SO only tho
@JourneymanGeek he means just the name, not any features
It's like branded clothing, which cost more just because it got a familiar name.
Meanwhile, Arts & Crafts has its first birthday of sorts; went into public beta a year ago. Most viewed question so far: What kind of glue works for stones and shells?
@ShadowWizard oh, no timeline for redesigns, lots of SO centric features (like tag stats) ...
Maybe I'm being grumpy cause I don't use SO at all, and all this awesomeness may turn up in 6-8 weeks...
on the other hand, day to day stuff's fine, no complaints
5:05 AM
@JourneymanGeek so you downloaded the SO app even though you don't use SO? lol, you fake their numbers! ;)
I'd actually drop the SE app but I need my notifications
@gerry can you not lag me out of the chats again? I will never call you a lowly manual bot ever! Deal?
Chrome for Android had some push notifications for two years, but it does not look like this feature has been widely adopted... ?
@Gerry yeah, I think kasra mentioned that as a option if the SO app failed
It's easy to subscribe to notifications from your own program, it's just a regular websocket connection. (No authorization needed, which of course means you don't get a preview of the message; just the fact that there is a new one.)
5:14 AM

I used to do this from this very chat, to be alerted on-screen when a new message came in. Then realized this is the opposite of what's in my best interest... Letting more people redirect my attention more easily, and what's in it for me?
hah. Its the opposite for me. I can quickly triage stuff and move on
Pfft, of course it's not. Having a popular answer is.

Are links to questions, that is the ones that you can obtain by clicking the "share" button under the question and answers ensured not to change?
10:03 AM
If you meant, they are permanent location, then yes (they're based on post ID).
But if you meant, the content won't change, then no, you should refer to the link from revision history instead.
10:22 AM
@nbro yeah, that's why they're called "permalinks", from permanent. :)
Nice to know they are called permalinks...
> lasting for a long time or for ever:
so, maybe they are granted to last only for 6 to 8 "something"
surely, they can't be expected to last forever. The sun will turn in a red giant far before that.
so, they probably are able to just ensure that the link will last "for a long time"
but what is a "long time"?
@nbro it's not SE only term
A permalink or permanent link is a URL that is intended to remain unchanged for many years into the future, yielding a hyperlink that is less susceptible to link rot. Permalinks are often rendered simply, that is, as friendly URLs, so as to be easy for people to type and remember. Most modern blogging and content-syndication software systems support such links. Sometimes URL shortening is used to create them. A permalink is a type of persistent identifier and the word permalink is sometimes used as a synonym of persistent identifier. More often, though, permalink is applied to persistent identifiers...
And it's used in chat as well:
@ShadowWizard My point was: I would know about the persistency and permancy of the mentioned links if I knew that those specific links are also called permalinks on the SE websites...
@nbro your name abbreviation for 'new brother'?
10:38 AM
@nbro now you know... :)
Also, the tooltip of the "share" link says "short permalink to this question/answer"
So when in doubt, hover.

this question is copied exactly to this site (although not a pretty good one). Should I raise a flag or something?
@DroidDev there's a meta question on scrapers
oh....just came to mind. Lemme find it, if I can...
got it
that one's fine
links to the user and SE
yeah....just read that from meta question
Thanks @Jou
11:47 AM
@Derpy unfortunately, that destiny didn't arrive yet, although I started whole naruto series again :P
@DroidDev So, while I predicted that you would be watching MLP you are currently stuck watching Boruto instead.
Are you sure it was the right choice?
12:02 PM
@Derpy not boruto actually. It'd be a while before I start that, since I hate waiting for next episode. I am watching naruto again, from beginning, since I exhausted many other anime series
@Derpy umm...yeah, I think. I tried to watch MLP once (as you know), but wasn't able to continue. Not my cup of tea
@Feeds Congrats to es.so on graduation, they fit right into college / HS graduation session.
12:18 PM
@Gerry congrats on your fist fight with shog, it's all entertaining for us to watch
@Telkitty no, it does not stand for that... strangely it's not the first time a person likes to make fun of my username...
@Telkitty but there's no mud...
@nbro so what does it stand for? :)
@Gerry both gone
@DroidDev maybe you will change your mind after trying again? ;)
@ShadowWizard eww, I just said fist fight, I never mentioned that it's a fist fight in mud ... you and your perverted fantasies ...
@ShadowWizard woah! I get scared even thinking that I'd be that bored some day :P
12:30 PM
Fitness and Health have common spammers but only one moderator in common. Maybe they should be merged ... yes I remember how it worked for Audio and Sound Design, but in this case there is nothing to lose, at least for Health.
@Telkitty no mud no fun!
@DroidDev :D
@JourneymanGeek turns out you were wrong, undelete does not bump.
@ShadowWizard - that was the case when this was implemented. I don't believe undeletes bump, not even today. — Oded ♦ 1 min ago
Unless @Oded is wrong??
@ShadowWizard preeeeety sure it does
But Oded got the source code...
Pretty sure this wins.
Maybe it used to bump and they changed it.
Pretty sure it doesn't.
Lets test!
Q: Recovery data with GetDataBack, problem?

Mohammad DayyanRecently, I recovered data with GetDataBack software => http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm all of my data get backed with true name and size. The sound files don't have any problems and I can open it but around 50% of another files like .pdf , .doc and ... files don't open at all. ...

12:36 PM
@JourneymanGeek no 10k on SU :/
Didn't bump
Oh, this is fine
No, your edit bumped it.
You must test it without editing.
That's what I was meaning tho
You could delete, edit then undelete and it wouldn't bump
not delete and undelete.
12:38 PM
@JourneymanGeek so.... that's the whole point
Spammer can quickly delete the spam, then undelete after a week.
Spam will stick for years.
I have a tag with 600+ instances tho
(and I am trickle editing so...)
@DroidDev well. You are watching Naruto. Again.
I am addicted to dogs getting jealous videos ... so hilarious ...
A behind-the-scenes look at the S* mobile team working on the SO apps:
@Derpy yeah, but that moment would only come when I have watched everything there is to watch (that I like), maybe twice or thrice and even then, there are no new animes, movies, tv series releasing that are of genres that I like, and then I have no one to talk to in whole world and then I have nowhere to go to either and nothing to do at all, and then I am imprisoned with live streaming of MLP playing in front of me
only then I guess I'd be able to watch it
@Gerry and I was thinking that's what they are doing there:
12:58 PM
I wonder do people who own both dogs and cats pat and cuddle their cats more
and whether dogs get jealous because cats get more pats and cuddles :p
(let's make some nice chaos here)
@Telkitty because cats demand it louder
And they appear to be more poor
"oh, poor kitty, here you go!"
@ShadowWizard Top perk of interviewing at stack: getting to wear the bubbles outfit.

@JeremyBanks so it was you?!;)
It does not look very comfortable to wear....
Plus, people probably touch you all the time.
@ShadowWizard cunning
@Derpy LIES!
Now that's fishy:
10-50 installs, but 62 reviews.
So people reviewed without even installing the app. Who paid them? hmm....
I understand SE is desperate, but still... really?
1:14 PM
@ShadowWizard you are still giving some focus to the "review" tab?
@Derpy what? Where?
I didn't read all the reviews, was just referring to the impossible numbers.
@Derpy I don't have a cat
@ShadowWizard could be caching.
@JourneymanGeek not yet
@Derpy oddly I can't legally own a cat
1:19 PM
@ShadowWizard caching
I doubt it
@ShadowWizard one can put a review and then uninstall
@DroidDev nah, I don't think the number of installs ever go down, they don't track uninstalls.
@JourneymanGeek huh? How come??
@ShadowWizard they're banned in apartments
1:27 PM
@JourneymanGeek that's.... totally weird.
So what pets people are allowed to have? Only dogs?
@ShadowWizard there's a whitelist of allowed breeds of dogs (and crosses of them) , unless its a small street-dog that's of appropriate size that has specifically been approved.
@JourneymanGeek sounds very very harsh... but maybe because I'm used to the freedom of choice we have here. :/
People here can live how they choose, and own any pet.
there's literally a list of 60 approved breeds
if you're living in private housing it should be fine
1:29 PM
That's really bad for animal lovers...
Very strict, guess many people don't really like it...
Ironically the main thing that would keep me in singapore is my dog ;p
@JourneymanGeek but only because he happens to be allowed
errrr We think?
He's approved size I suppose
1:32 PM
So you might be a criminal? o_O
and a schnauzer cross
@ShadowWizard I think it does. They even have their own analytic tools with graphical representation for developers who upload application. It can be accessed from developer console of play store
a smoooooth criminal
@JourneymanGeek no, hairy! :D
1:32 PM
Also due to a quirk of history, we arn't covered by the dog list.
Its a HDB managed building that apparently is owned by a government agency that dosen't quite exist in that manner any more
@DroidDev so you want to tell me that every time someone uninstalls an app from their device, it sends an event to Google Play?
google is like big brother. He's always watching ;P
@ShadowWizard I'm not really convinced SO app's entirely thought through.
But we'll see?
@JourneymanGeek of course it's not, they didn't have enough time and developers for this.
Though there's not much to think, they just took the existing apps and added some filters or minor design changes.
1:36 PM
@ShadowWizard one existing app hasn't been touched in years....
The biggest change is the name...
so one would hope its a rewrite
@JourneymanGeek LOL... rewrite.... lol...
I donno
I'm not going to install it.
I'm 100% sure all the bugs are still there.
1:37 PM
no man, New bugs.
Most simple way to test: upvote an answer and scroll down. In the "old" android app, this will make the vote disappear until you reload.
but this means installing the SO app
my development process includes trying to test things that totally won't work and hope that they do work

What happened to podcast #109, the blog post is dated May 15, but Feeds didn't post it here, and I don't remember it ever being featured in the sidebar.
@Gerry there is room for only two blog posts in the sidebar
But yeah, Podcast #109 is missing from the blogs feed, probably worth a bug report.
2:03 PM
Could be intentional, maybe it's being held back precisely because there are already 2 featured things.
@Gerry I don't think the sidebar reads from the Feeds
Although I don't really see the point of network-wide promotion of an app that's designed for one site only.
It's tagged [community] instead of [company], that's why.
@Gerry really?? heh.
2:23 PM
Hah, autocomplete fail
2:34 PM
@M.A.R. where?
@ShadowWizard They typed "com" and pressed Tab
@M.A.R. ...
@ShadowWizard Whoever posted that Podcast blog post
oh, com-munity
I doubt Jess wrote this from her mobile device... @M.A.R.
But tagging interface of Wordpress does have autocomplete.
2:38 PM
@Gerry oh. lol
So prone to mistakes.
Why won't they make their own blog system? Oh wait, they did. And failed.
(though not sure what failed?)
I don't think it's a matter of platform even; would not you want tags to autocomplete? They do on S* sites, for example.
Like the elaboration of a bad liar
the more you want to cover it up, the more I am convinced
I always read S* as.. that word
@Elephant for me it's only with F.
@Gerry they do? Never noticed... let me see...
They don't...
TAB just navigates between the possible tags.
But not really selecting any, so hard to make mistakes.
2:47 PM
Okay, not autocomplete - I meant you get some suggested choices, from which you select without typing out the entire tag name.
And people do select a wrong one occasionally because it looks close enough.
@Gerry hmm.... pretty sure @M.A.R. meant one click that selects the first tag, without further clicks. :)
@ShadowWizard they debated forking SE into a blog system a few times too
@JourneymanGeek that sounds... ominous!
Never really got anywhere
2:52 PM
Like the [announcement] tag.
oh, the announcement tag was a whole different shitstorm
It wasn't brown enough
@Journeyman how come you write today with your main account? You didn't go to work?
oh, I have a seperate browser, and created my own account
and vivaldi lets me dock chat to the side so...
viva who?
This one? ^
chrome based browser by the old opera team
why not real browser like Chrome or Firefox?
it actually works pretty well
"chrome based".... so it means "things might work, or not".
2:56 PM
+ it lets me dock chat and email into a side bar thing
Whatever sails your boat browser.... ;)
works well ;p
Until it won't work well. :)
I also got my main account connected to a disposable openid there
its a bit paranoid, but... ;p
@JourneymanGeek you mean like self destruct?
2:58 PM
I've heard a few horror stories of people getting suddenly fired there
@ShadowWizard I run my own openid server
so I can just nuke the identity if I leave
@JourneymanGeek oh wow
they'd still need to get into my account tho, and no one there has any technical skill...
also the passwords there are a pain and I cannot be arsed to remember them
3:17 PM
hey, I didn't even ping you...
@ShadowWizard ^ be happy. You have company now.
3:32 PM
no, the thing doesn't look like a pig, it looks more like a ... donkey
a donkey with tatoo on its butt
3:44 PM
Overall, 5 of these 16 are by S* employees: two by Jeff, and one by Shog, Sam, and Kasra apiece.
I feel these should be combined somehow. Feature request: with the new SO app, a user should be able to begin a comment with "-1". However, any code they post from the app will be MIT-licensed.
@ShadowWizard @Telkitty Yeah, I have no idea. :)
