As a apex predator/1337 tr011, the best thing is that I throw myself on to my victim and feel you trembling with fear under my body before I sink my sharp claws and teeth into your tender flesh. The worst is that your apex predator get capture, declawed and head bound for random petting and hugging ...

Mod Candidate 1: 23 posts edited, 6 helpful flags, 53 votes cast. Nomination says they are in for the process, not to be elected.
Mod Candidate 2: 5 posts edited, 4 helpful flags, 92 votes cost. Nomination says they'll make the site great again by building a wall and making others pay for it.

user315433
Which one would be a better mod? With 4 candidates for 3 spots, one of these two is assured of winning.

6:52 AM
@zaq option c) Someone else runs
If thats not an option, I'd pick 1

2 sounds like someone immature who has no respect towards the process and community governance. 1 might not outwardly want to, but they're still aware of how the process works and want to work within it.

@zaq what site?

@zaq we changed the sitenames to be shortened earlier today, so that we can fit more stuff in reports

Not sure about "fit more stuff in reports", but why not use site's magic link instead...

Those have some weird special cases... and it'd be a link one probably would never click (why go to the homepage?) so having it in the report that already has 4 links is adding negative value.

yeah, 62 and 57. I was close!

I think they are still active, just not as active as in the 80's and 90's

depends ... every month on average maybe

user202362
I don't like to use my real pic as avatar, because then it feels weird to troll :x

lol
hmm... isn't it NSFW pic in this question? (not sure what's the site policy so not flagging)
I mention NSFW and @JourneymanGeek arrives..... coincidence? ;)

Entirely
;p
(why do people get convinced I'm omniscient! There's only room for one omniscient being here!)

1:41 PM
@JourneymanGeek and who's that?! :D

@ShadowWizard if you were he, you'd know that ;p
I assume shog ;p
I only turn up when people refer to dogs apparently.
For some reason.

@JourneymanGeek well, I wasn't referring to a dog, yet you showed up... ;)

oh, cause I closed all my tabs and reopened them ;p

Even @Bart is busy now

as I sometimes do

1:43 PM
For some reasons, I can tolerate that image since it's distorted enough. It's not an instant "woah, buttock" when seeing the image without knowing the context.

@JourneymanGeek oh, how you do that? Can you save a tab "set"?

@ShadowWizard I have a folder of bookmarks and I open all

@JourneymanGeek cool.... Chrome?

I coulda sworn FF had a feature to open a set of tags at startup
firefox
I think I linked my "oh man, I am chatting in 4 windows like a champ" setup some time back ;p

@qwer hehe, it was for me, it's "clear" enough.... personally I'm totally fine with it though, as long as boss isn't watching my screen..... ;)
@JourneymanGeek yeah, Chrome also restore last active tabs on startup, but if you close tabs manually, you can't later choose to re-open them.

1:45 PM
@ShadowWizard basically I keep opening things
then just close things...
then just close everything

then reopen that specific set of tabs
Then I rejoin the chats on main chat
(since I just stalked and delurked here recently ;p)

I got three tabs open at startup.... gmail, MSE, and Den.

15 tabs ;p
I can probably lose a few

Well, my computer is... not stable... so I prefer to not risk too many tabs

1:47 PM
lol
I have an 'older' gaming system...
so tons of ram

With only three tabs Chrome consume almost 500MB memory, so guess that more tabs mean more memory and my computer will crash.

firefox is on... 1.7gb
I run 64 bit, which is more stable for me

Now with local SQL Server installed, it's even worse
@JourneymanGeek yeah, also switched to 64 bit chrome not long ago, which is indeed better

firefox is stable for me
buuuut, my reason for using is is a bit dumb
I use it cause there's a plugin that squishes everything into one bar, which saves space...
and I run dual 4k displays so...

1:59 PM
lol
4k's likely to be the standard in coming years

1 message moved from Shadow's Den

and while its a little pricy, (I paid about 500 USD for one monitor, and 350 for the other), its pretty nice
(and by pretty nice I mean, it ruins lesser screens for you ;p)

@JourneymanGeek yeah, but can't see ordinary people using it just for work

@ShadowWizard if you work on a ton of text...

most people don't :)

2:02 PM
most employers wouldn't invest that sort of money on monitors tho ;p
The place I temped at... just replaced monitors as they died so they had 4:3 1024x768 monitors still in use
the other place had a ton of spare dells. one standard model for normal folk, and eizos for artists and VIP sorts.
(eizos are ... pretty pricy monitors with colour caliberation and all that jazz built in)

So what you got?

dell P2715Q and a crossover 289k

And you paid?

yup
Personal use
actually currently unemployed ><
picked them up 2 jobs ago

2 jobs ago... lol
but yeah, not pleasant to not work, sorry to hear
Are you looking in SO Jobs too?

2:14 PM
Vaguely
I'm in an odd place though

@JourneymanGeek meaning?

I don't really feel any joy coding - and SO careers is very programmer centric

@JourneymanGeek that is true, though SE itself hires sometimes too, including tech support

Been trying to break into system administration (actually was talking to places to do training and placement but the recruitment place was terrible)
@ShadowWizard oh, I keep an eye out for those.
But more likely to be local for tech support no?
I'm in singapore, so unless they want to do something odd like train a sysadmin from semi scratch, or hire a new CM....
(I'd apply for tech support roles anyway ;p)

@JourneymanGeek well, they do need support world wide available 24/7 so having people all around the globe is important, and no need to arrive any office to reply phone calls.

2:16 PM
ah
been keeping an eye on SE's own jobs page
I mean I suppose in theory, I could do the whole blind resume thing...
anyway, in my experience...
I usually get hired due to plain dumb luck.
;p
so we'll see what the universe throws at me next

@JourneymanGeek heh, most good things happen by pure luck..... :P

job 2? Ran into my future boss on a news group

How you survive in the meanwhile though? Hope you're in good shape...

Very interesting place. Closed down operations here less than a year after I joined ._.
Savings + suprisingly low expenses + living with parents.

oh. lol
How old are you, if I may ask? @Journeyman

2:26 PM
tbh, this patch of not having a job worked well cause my dad had a quadruple bypass ;p
32
kinda old for living with parents I know ;p

@JourneymanGeek well, any half empty glass also got a full half... or something like that... :D

@JourneymanGeek if you're single it's not so bad, it's quite common in my country

Also, I'm usually the sort who's chill as heck
except when I'm not
lol. Yeah. Single ;p

I lived with parents when I was 22, until I was 28, though half of that wasn't in same house, but still on same property.

2:29 PM
Oh, my bro lived with my parents until he got married.

Anyway maybe you'll find yourself a rich bride and won't have to work.... :D

lol
I'd work anyway
especially if its the right place

oh, how noble of you

Bordom is a killer ;p
and having something specifically to do would be nice

If you're bored, there's WAG in Den..... :D

2:30 PM
lol
Well, other than moving printers.
I hated that job.

Talking about jobs, @Jason how are you doing? Any good news this week?

Paid oddly well though

@JourneymanGeek moving... printers... ?!?!

you mean physically?

2:32 PM
Well I was tech support, project team
@ShadowWizard yup
and dead/obsolete pcs

that's so sad, in a very sad way.... rofl
Reminds me of teenager jobs I had, lol

lol
that wasn't my official job
that's just what I ended up doing a lot

@JourneymanGeek lol, yeah.... well, when I started working at programming, half the time I just translated documents for the boss
his English was bad... still bad actually. :D

funny bit is someone worked out I actually knew my shit, and kept throwing the impossible stuff at me
Which I sorted out

@JourneymanGeek well you could always say "no" :P

2:37 PM
naw
Was a temp.

heh, yeah... know what you mean :)
It's modern slavery
They can tell you to do anything, and you don't really have a choice

lol
Also, a great insight into how corporate IT is.

Jul 6 '16 at 14:25, by Shadow Wizard
@Magisch modern slavery!
@Magisch is this still so bad? ^

Was a complete mess. Doubly so since almost no one actually worked there ;p

@JourneymanGeek and how did it close down?

2:40 PM
@ShadowWizard Official story or the truth?

@JourneymanGeek heh, prefer truth of course... :)

Truth? Subsidies got cut. They got asked to have more local folk trained up
India is cheaper, canada has more subsidies.
So they moved the overseas folk. Told the locals our jobs are safe
then, well
yeah, people started getting chopped or asked to leave.

@JourneymanGeek heh, cruel (to people like you) but true

yup
It was an interesting experience, nonetheles.
Casinos are just bizzare.(that was the temp job)

@JourneymanGeek yeah, that's good... though not something too awesome to add to your resume. :/

Ah the coffee rule
yeah
Still is

@Magisch was just talking with @JourneymanGeek about modern slavery, e.g. he moved printers as part of his job... :)
@Magisch heh, sorry to hear!

I too move printers when they need moving

@Magisch but guess not on daily basis...

The "click here" is a new feature too.. clicking will instead toggle the reveal.

A year-long ban at 14 seems long because it represents such a large portion of the life lived thus far, @peterh... But let's not trivialize this; I've helped folks work out of bans during what was actually the last year of their life - one would hope that is not the case here. A year is an escalation from numerous shorter bans, and certainly not a first-resort approach. Also, I feel that you're ignoring a rather long and tumultuous history on Math, full of strong arguments and bitter rivals; this trivializes the work they've put in, and sets up bad expectations for Physics. — Shog9 ♦ 45 mins ago
