^^
I'm seeing good noises come out of my so.blog isn't that good question ^^
(so, getting a point of view across, successful. I can still meta effectively as a normal user yay)

1 hour later…
1:46 AM
@rene heh, I was so careful not to blame anyone for the blog being less than good :(

how likely do you think that I could get the robot car group to co-design a robot chicken with me?

user202362
I am talking about the motor cycle sized ones that you could ride on the road

2:44 AM
@Catija Looks like you may get another chance soon (Jolenealaska is no longer a mod, so the site is down to 2 mods)

@6'whitemale It's a temporary thing.

Meanwhile, on Startups: Moderator Position Open - Nominees Needed. After half a month, animuson unfeatured the post; still no viable candidates.

3:29 AM
hey @Telkitty, I think there's a Q&A that might interest you: Translation from the English Apex Predator?. You'll be more l33t troll after reading that

user202362
Not trolling, really want to build a robot chicken. I have the whole conceptual plan in my head, including rider safety and where the sensors for keeping balance are.

3:52 AM
or use a chicken to control it

yeah, that was like ... yesterday NY time

Fine.
psh
didn't want to anyway

8:19 AM
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, you did fine, not your fault. I'm just over sensitive, so as always, it is me.

@rene nuuuu. No blame
I actually wrote that very carefully so as to not blame anyone. Blame culture is toxic.
Granted blaming people is a very Singaporean way of dealing with problems but...

I blame less answers.

That's kinda fine

Yeah
Answering is fun. And SO hates fun.

8:37 AM
Also what's the graph of?

That's average answers per question over time.

Ah. Which isn't necessarily bad.

This one is answers per day
The strange variance is due to weekends being less active than weekdays.
However, the trends is still strongly visible.

That vaguely indicates there's a lot more questions

Yes, during the week, questions are reaching OVER 9000!
As you can see, this has been a problem for a while. Or at least has been occurring for a while, and perhaps some people don't view it as a problem.
I do though, especially when you look at the newest list of questions and can sometimes not see 1 answer of 50 questions.

8:44 AM
Well that's kinda tricky...
Not an so user but I do believe many of the so specific things like better filters are meant to mitigate that

Nothing drops off the newest page, only off the interesting page.
The newest page has been referred to as the "fire hose".

Which would be painful for me

also, Eternal September
(random off-topic utterance)

But that still indicates people ask questions sooooo
@AndrewT. Vaguely accurate

@AndrewT. I think that's topical
So as long as there are random people asking questions we are all good?

8:50 AM
on smaller sites, sure? on SO...... :X

Hmm. Kinda? Assuming that translates to money coming in :p

I am concerned that there are too many users burning out from answering due to dealing with other users telling them not to.

Reduce this category first, then ask a question :X

lol, 4.2M questions, yikes
And that is with roomba and queues running.
I would be willing to bet that SO revenue is tied closer to answers than questions.

8:54 AM
Plausibly. Or views for ads and SO careers.

Let's see... if anyone want to answer the oldest unanwered question on SO

Q: How to get Indexing Service and MODI to produce Full-text over OCR?

IshmaeelI have configured Indexing Service to index my files, which also include scanned images saved as hi-res TIFF files. I also installed MS Office 2003+ and configured MS Office Document Imaging (MODI) correctly, so I can perform OCR on my images and even embed the OCR'd text into TIFFs. Indexing Se...

The success of the model helps with new stuff like SO Enterprise and channels
That said, I always thought job listings was a pretty crowded field

The answer was deleted.

kind of make sense when it suddenly got protected

It was converted into a comment
There's a hotfix that appears to address this problem. — Greg Hurlman Aug 6 '08 at 20:10

8:58 AM
erh, that was long ago, okay, why got protection...

indeed
There are 3 other deleted answers, 2 also from 2008, one from 2015.
However, the protection was only from a few weeks ago
Ah, protected because it ended up in the active list due to edits.

Okay, I know why it got protected on that day. The user just unlocked the 20k privilege on Oct 26 facepalm

I can undo it. Not sure it really matters though.

just let it be...

let it be

9:10 AM

sigh, chess is getting in my way
have to userscript a site ban for it :(

I want to create a userscript/browser extension to block SO and the whole SE for the rage quitter, but having a feature to "let me read it once!" to unblock it only for that time, and counting how often the feature is used :/

counting how often the feature is used would require you to fire off an http request which might generate some displeasure.
sigh
my extension works
lichess.org banned

@TravisJ let's say... Google Analytics :x

Someone might reach out to Eric Lippert? meta.stackoverflow.com/q/359537/578411

considering his email is on the same domain...

in unrelated news, I just purchased a random ericlippert.com domain that was seemingly unused
(kidding)

Maybe he doesn't make enough on Facebook to longer afford a .com domain?

or forgot. Which happens

@JourneymanGeek or this happened: meta.stackoverflow.com/q/300720/578411

feral internet thieves, they are freaking everywhere

also, hasn't tweeted since july
Its not a whois lookup tho

user202362
stealing things from you, then try to sell it back to you or buy your services with pennies

user202362
scandalous

The problem is that the internet was designed to be free.
All this security is just an illusion.

user202362
yeah, good luck telling that to people who have bought google/facebook shares

10:06 AM
LoL I would tell them don't worry, the data is insecure, the features are pirated, but the stock is held up by the central banks at the moment so your investment is safe

user202362
sometimes I think tech startups are good way to laundry money

There are many ways to launder money, why use so much headache as a startup to do it?

srackoverflow.com is on sale... 'r' beside 't'
shackoverflow.com's registrar is Google though

how about stackoverfiow.com?
With all the effort people put into crime, if they had put it towards legitimacy, they would have just as much success.

@TravisJ Amazon registrar

figures

user202362
@TravisJ same theory as casino method, but instead you invest a bunch of tech startups

@TravisJ eww, this site redirects to Rebecca's Black Friday >_<

LOL
That must have come from a SO chat room

user202362
some people must have really boring lives

yes

10:14 AM
yes

Poor souls
Nothing cures boredom like scotch :D

user202362
but you pay back in hangover

Only if you get the cheap stuff
Good scotch should be old enough to purchase itself at the store.
Don't forget to cut it with just a touch of water. It evens out the flavor.

Sometimes I wish I had close vote superpowers for when I'm absolutely sure my close vote is correct. A bit like moderators can do, but without all the added responsibility.

@Stijn maybe with a gold badge and 30k

Nearly all gold badge holders have 30k rep

I don't think unilateral close would be a terrible thing. Maybe it would make users stop arguing if questions were closed faster. Instead of "hey, don't answer that" it would be "this question should be reopened" which is a far more productive conversation to have. Moreover, reopening questions is almost never done which to me means that closure is still not efficient enough.

11:44 PM
@JourneymanGeek it'd certainly motivate me to get a gold tag badge :p

@TravisJ also gives us an excuse to finally get optional unilateral closing, maybe
