For people who want to make and race DIY autonomous cars of any size

user202362
if I could fit everything in, it will be the size of a cockroach, surrounded by rubber and can go under or climb above any obstacle

user202362
possibly with wings

Figure out what you'd be willing to pay for that.
I'll sell you a cockroach for half - HALF - that price.
(plus shipping)

user202362
I am sure you will give discount for multi buying, just ship over a bunch of nearly hatched eggs ...

shipped in a discrete brown paper package clearly labeled "definitely not contraband"

user202362
2:02 AM
why even spend $100k for an autonomous car ... when you can fork out 1k for a horse anyways

user202362
it's not like google self driving cart car is going much faster than a horse

user202362
go green, go for a horse!

morning... now with a new mouse
what is this "cortana" notification appearing on action center...

Isn't Cortana the Windows Siri?
Cortana is a virtual assistant created by Microsoft for Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile, Windows Phone 8.1, Microsoft Band, Xbox One, iOS, Android, Windows Mixed Reality, and soon Amazon Alexa. Cortana can set reminders, recognize natural voice without the requirement for keyboard input, and answer questions using information from the Bing search engine. Cortana is currently available in English, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese language editions, depending on the software platform and region in which it is used. Cortana mainly competes against assistants such as...

Yeah, though I don't think I'll use it...

2:11 AM
I wouldn't.
I've already signed my life away to FB, insta, Google and SE... I don't think I'll add Microsoft to that pile ... I have some pride. ;)

OTOH... 3rd day working, and this source code I got from current project doesn't have any comments/in-line documentations at all >_<
talk about "self-explanatory" code.... >_>

... but do the people who wrote it intentionally try to be "clever" rather than just doing things the "normal" way?
Oh, I thought this is the appropriate forum for metadata? — David 4 mins ago
:(

@Catija I'm afraid it's the "normal" way here... but hopefully later source code can prove me wrong

2:51 AM
@AndrewT. i've found fuzz testing / pairwise testing to be useful in these scenarios - get a good picture of outputs for given inputs before trying to figure out what's actually going on.

TIL Fuzz testing... and yeah, Android also has monkey :)

Anonymous
@AndrewT. and, of course, goats.

3:17 AM
@Catija I don't think any of that's accurate. He's clearly not thinking, its not a forum. and it takes a giant leap of faith ending with a wilhelm scream into a pit of closevotes

@JourneymanGeek Huh?
Oh, my first statement was in response to Andrew... the link to that question was unrelated.

@Catija what that guy said wasn't clever
ahhhh
oops ;p

No worries
Someone's upvoting my posts on Anime.

those bastards
...wait, was that a lament or an observation?

@Shog9 why not both?

3:27 AM
> Storm's a comin'
Yep.

@Shog9 As a mod, I have to say the former... but if they only do two, I'll get a badge out of it... so... yay?
One of the votes got an answer to +10 :P

@Catija can't really affect how people vote, except by force of personality ;p

Two badges, even!
Whee!
@JourneymanGeek No, but they can invalidate targeted voting.

assuming it is!
Or you have imposter syndrome, which kinda sucks

Two upvotes on two very unrelated questions in 5 minutes?
Imposter syndrome? Do I need to Google this?

3:29 AM
I first heard that term on Workplace.SE, so it's certainly SFW

@Catija essentially questioning your own competence?
One might say its reverse dunning kruger effect

@JourneymanGeek Um... if that's what it is, that's what I do all the time?

(all safe to goofle)
@Catija precisely
But it can sometimes get crippingly bad

> Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon or fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a concept describing individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud".
OMG.
Now I really do need to see a shrink.

Hah!
or just realise its a thing
I sometimes go "Are they voting for me, or my answer?"

3:32 AM
I was talking to my mom last night and we were talking about how I never could accept compliments from her (because she has to like what I do, she's my mom) but I would always say "I'd accept the compliments from people I trust to know that what I did was good"... except... I don't know that I actually believe that, either.

just assume "this answer by this user looks great! I wonder if they have other good answers..."

I had a voice teacher I was starting lessons with while I was in the film program tell me I should switch my major to voice and study with her and I still preferred to think that she was just trying to boost the number of students in the program.
... Not that UT had a shortage of voice students.
I'd rather think people are being nice than truthful, for some idiotic reason.

Well, sometime somewhere, people have to be nice in order to survive...

for me, dealing with it was kinda accepting its both - I might not be the best, but I do my best

@AndrewT. Yes... but the SE system demands voting for content, not users... which is why we do invalidate voting when it seems like users are voting for people rather than posts.

3:36 AM
and me... I always think myself as "jack of all trade, master of none" because I have seen other spectacular people.
and then.... I always feel I can't achieve like them ._.

@JourneymanGeek But... I have to be the best...

Gotta catch 'em all!

@Catija annnd that's the very definiton of imposter syndrome ;)

@JourneymanGeek :( I told you.

@Catija I sometimes feel that way about moderatorship (SE isn't the first place I've been a super trusted user, and it still baffles me somewhat. Pity I have no idea how to turn that into a career ;p)

3:50 AM
come to think of it... both of you are mods on SE...
Soon-to-be-posted on MSE: do SE mods have imposter syndrome?

@JourneymanGeek I'm trying to think if I've had anything like it before... I don't think so.

Used to be the off hours mod at a small battletech site

@AndrewT. Surely not all of us.

amusingly the only guy outside a small bunch of guys who knew each other in VA who was a mod there, despite actually being the newest of a bunch of singaporeans who hung out ;p
@AndrewT. I'm sure its a dupe ;p
and really to an extent that's one of the reasons we have more than one moderator on a site

Stroking egos?

3:55 AM
Well, backup.
Its always handy to be able to go "Am I doing the right thing?" and have someone actually tell you yes, or even no.

Yeah.

4:09 AM
Tbh it's almost easier as an elected mod but my margin was a shock too

@JourneymanGeek Yes. That would be nice... a good sense of affirmation that you were wanted... Yeah, you get upvotes on the meta question for pro-tems but they come with downvotes that eat away at you... it'd be nice if they could just disable them or something.
I knew I was going to lose the election on Cooking by a lot... I didn't expect it to be that bad.

5:05 AM

@Catija I like, lost.. 2 elections before I became protem ;p
Not in SU though

@JourneymanGeek I did the same thing! I lost an ELL election by a few votes and then the cooking election by a huge amount.

who won that one?
(I'm mainly on cooking chat ._.)

Jolene...

er, yeah... kiiinda.... a strong candidate

5:12 AM
It was when they demodded Aaronaut for inactivity... still don't know what happened to them :(

also, some odd stuff happens with STV

There were only three people running. She won in the first round, so the STV didn't even come into it.

ah for one seat ;p

Yes.

STV is boring there unless you have two people really neck and neck

5:14 AM
On ELL I lost to JR (obvious choice) Wendikidd (another pro tem) and Maulik... got fourth.
That one was pretty close.
Let me see if I can dig it up.

(also, I almost literally phoned in my initial SU election nomination)

ehh
That's not too bad
you got to the last round ;p

No... but my loss pretty much kept me from visiting the site for over a year and I'm still not nearly as active as I was.
^ I don't care about losing to Jolene... But the third place person got 16 to my 23 votes.

:(
Well, you can do 90% of the things a moderator can do as a high rep user

5:22 AM
Sure. I like those three but I don't actually think I'd be a good mod there.
I get more declined flags there than anywhere else on the network.

Well, I consider a lot of modding to be scut/mechanical work
the hard part is "getting"/"shaping" culture
Even then there's sometimes stuff I have trouble with ;p

-4
A: What is the difference between pizza sauce and spaghetti sauce?

TimI use my own sauce for both and flavor for my tastes.. Canned store bought pizza sauce does seem to be thicker.. Bottom line is, if you and yours love it, do it your way... There are no rules in this day and age.

Declined NAA flag. Never mentions spaghetti sauce doesn't say what the difference is.

well, it could be seen as a wrong answer
also twitch unfixable spelling error on another question

@Catija Psssst. I hate to be the bearer of good news, but you got 133 second place votes to their 9. You were the overwhelming second choice. (Too bad you have to look a the ballot file and it's not in the report.)

@JonEricson Awww, thanks :)

5:28 AM
;p

It's funny, they mentioned that in the TL at some point but they never said what the second place votes were.

I have a way to look up such things a lot quicker than most people. ;-)

lol
cough mod CMABUSE!

Well, see, now I can push aside the imposter syndrome for a few minutes and smile.
I appreciate it.

which is kind of the point here ;p
And I'd say, to effectively moderate the sort of site you moderate needs a ton more of those "soft skills" than say SU.
(which is probably why I sharpen my claws on MSE ;p)

5:32 AM
@JourneymanGeek You say that like I have them... whoops... so much for that.
;)

@Catija you haven't run away screaming, and in many cases, you deal with the really difficult ones
That's a start ;)

I haven't run away screaming because failure isn't an option... didn't we talk about that?

Actually, practically, failure is always an option.
Not all Pro Tem mods find they're ready for what they do, and there's been a few cases where elected mods, have well, acted in ways they probably shouldn't have.

Who's being practical? ;)

I mean, you clearly think IPS can work (and I can respect that), and put the effort you can into it.
and that's kinda what makes a good mod

5:36 AM
@JourneymanGeek I don't know that I've run into many new pro tem mods. Most of the sites I've joined have either been established graduated or beta sites ... or they're the sites I mod...

@Catija well, on TL? ;p

@JourneymanGeek It's hard to judge how they're doing on their sites.

Well, moderation isn't something that can be quantified that well - and there's certainly no 'perfect' way of doing it

True.

but I guess the stuff I'd look at is activity, whether they're still mods, and why they choose not to stay on after graduation.
I didn't feel I was really handling enough on SR + SU felt like it was taking up a lot of time + my workplace was in trouble so I was waaaaay stressed out ;p

5:41 AM
And now you have so much free time :P

heh, I do need to get another job ;p

Are you looking?

ya but kinda not in the right headspace

It's difficult at the best of times. I hate job searches.

I go through this a bit too often

5:43 AM
I think most people dread changing their jobs more for the dislike of interviewing than anything else :P
I'd love to find a job that made me happy enough to stick around for years...

also I probably should be upskilling, but I'm kinda a bit. ya, imposter syndrome, tired, making excuses ;p
amusingly, I was debating popping SE a general application but I kinda think now's roughly the worst time, maybe in a month or two ;p

I should have spent this last year learning something... but I've been... learning how to moderate SE, instead... which is (by some definitions) a "waste of time". :(

lol. Let me know if you figure out how to moniterise moderation skills ;p

@JourneymanGeek Yeah. It's really difficult. I bet there are tons of applications sent in on a regular basis that they have to ignore.
monetize. :P

@Catija and timing
(granted, they probably have me on file. I applied as a tech support person for their UK office ;p)

5:48 AM
I don't have any reason to apply. I don't think they need any of the skills I have :/ I think that part of why I want SE to have a storefront is because I want to manage it. I worked in web orders for a while and it was one of the most fun jobs I've had.

ah lol
I do desktop support. I want to move into servers (but that's kinda uncommon here. Everything's on AWS...)
I suppose I have reasonable people skills? ;p

Of course. You're a sweet little pooch ;)
I think that moderation is a lot like customer service, actually.

well, in a sense - worse pay, but more power ;p

The users may not be our "customers" in the traditional sense... or in any sense, really... but we do act as an intermediary between the actual company and the people who patronize the site.

Well, Se's kinda 'unique' there
(in the sense of having more 'organised' communities, and fairly open communication between the company and users)

5:54 AM
I don't think so... don't a lot of tech sites have user forums with volunteer mods who act as liaisons?
Oh... maybe then... I don't use much on the web other than SE on a frequent basis.

I've not used forums in ages ._.
kinda lost interest? ;p

The most recent one I used was the EA games forum for the Simpsons iOS game.

6:10 AM
There are a ton of spam links on this MSE Spam user profile... meta.stackexchange.com/users/374667/dream-earth I wonder if the cleanup effort for SU will also pick that sort of thing up.

@Catija not really the same pattern so possibly not

@Feeds I see my city listed there... true enough

@Catija and they posted, and were flag-nuked ;p

@JourneymanGeek Yeah. But the user account is still there... with all of the links.
Though, it's text, so maybe that's ok.

well, now that its mentioned here - if someone notices, they may do the needful ;p

6:17 AM
You just had to use that phrase...
I'm going to sleep.

;p
but of course
anyway, its gotten into the international techie vocabulary now...

Twice I let go my chance to be a mod (on Android.SE and Anime.SE) because I was afraid I couldn't do what the mods are expected to do

@JourneymanGeek surprisingly enough stack was the first place I heard that phrase

But I always camped on /active questions page every day...

@AndrewT. there's little difference between a properly active high rep user and a mod, outside us being able to do things on our own.
@AndrewT. and meta
Even if you don't do chat, you gotta have a handle on meta

6:22 AM
not much meta activity on those sites >_>
and some don't really like my moderation style (i.e. too strict for "fun" site) on anime.se :p

user202362
8:27 AM
what if ... you start a bold eagle farm and feed those birds cheeseburger day in and day out (with nutrition supplement)

@Telkitty If you made the cheeseburger out of steak that was ground that day, then it should probably survive without issue. However, McDonalds would more than likely kill an eagle in a short amount of time.
That said, it is a felony to feed a bald eagle a cheeseburger as you would be violating (16 U.S.C. 668-668d).

@TravisJ I am disturbed you know that from memory

I wish my memory was that good.
I had to google and wiki. I admit it.

user202362
what if I lure bald eagles in with cheeseburger

please send the cheeseburgers to us instead

8:41 AM
That would still be considered a violation of the major intent of the law, disturbing their habitat and a low level abuse due to feeding them something so unusual to their diet.

user202362
you know one of the most successful species on earth?

user202362
the chickens

@JourneymanGeek Also, 16 usc 668-668d, ignoring the usc, is 9 characters. On average people can only generally remember 10 characters unless practicing, and even then it is uncommon to retain that for long periods of time. To note, this is different than remembering something like correcthorsebatterystaple.
@Telkitty I was going to say the egg.

user202362
surely if we device a way to multiply bald eagers on cheeseburgers, we could end up with 100x more bald eagles ...

eagers...
they eager for cheeseburgers!

user202362
8:45 AM
I mean, if it's not illegal to feed your family cheeseburgers, why would it be illegal to feed eagles cheeseburgers, poor people are humans too!

well, what happen if you feed cow with cheeseburger?

Ever heard of mad cow disease?

(ugh, that reminds me of a manga about a mermaid tasting sushi for the first time... and she said delicious...)

user202362
mermaids feed on fish, so ...

user202362
although I am not sure they eat rice

8:48 AM
Why? Haven't you ever seen a rice field?
It's all water.

user202362
never heard of river mermaid or inland lake mermaid

user202362
mermaids live in the ocean, salty water ...

And because of that you deprive them of fresh water? Of rice??
all they wanted was some sushi

@Telkitty searching the effect of salty water to skin

I googled mermaid sushi, and it was a mistake.

user202362
8:52 AM
I googled that too :'(

It's going to be okay.
It's not your fault.

!!/blame

a hah!

I stayed out of this!
@Telkitty on the other hand its illegal to feed your family to bald eagles....

user202362
what if .. instead of the little mermaid, the mermaid is the size of a whale and she ate the prince by accident?

user202362
9:07 AM
so the ending, would you prefer:

user202362
1) they live happily ever after (he in her tummy)

user202362
or

user202362
2) and because his clothes was indigestible, he was ejected from her other end?

@Telkitty #nocontext

user202362
The Little Mermaid is a 1989 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Based on the Danish fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen, The Little Mermaid tells the story of a beautiful mermaid princess who dreams of becoming human. Written, produced, and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, with music by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman (who also served as a co-producer), the film features the voices of Jodi Benson, Christopher Daniel Barnes, Pat Carroll, Samuel E. Wright, Jason Marin, Kenneth Mars, Buddy...

9:11 AM
I don't think I ever saw the film. Did see the series as a kid.

basically similar to the original story

@Telkitty 2, because heroes always like a light at the end of the tunnel.

user202362
@_@

Goats can eat clothes though, so why not whales?

user202362
maybe in a full armour

9:16 AM
Ah, hmm, ending up ejected into the ocean in a suit of armor might not be desirable.
Maybe the little whale-mermaid was saving him from drowning by eating him

user202362
maybe

like an alive doll with a long nose

wat?

(too many disney..!)
(should be 'living doll", too much neuron blockage due to reading spaghetto code)

ahh, I gets it now
Like a wheel, a straw, and gold.
Or an apple, a mirror, and a prince.
Are those fairy tales not disney? hm

9:27 AM
the 🍎🤴 one is also Disney's

How about the one with a lightsaber, a wookie, and a princess? ;)

user202362
kinky! I am listening ...

you see... a long time ago, in a galaxy....far far away
anyway, something something dark side.

user202362
Oo that one ... not exciting enough. But if wookie is 100 times bigger (like kingkong) and princess is locked in a cage & lightsaber has vibration ability it might to altogether different ...

wut

user202362
9:40 AM
something something dark side

lol
What an empire state of mind!

user202362
let's not having dirty minds, shall we

user202362
so the kingkong wookie locked princess in a cage but she had a vibrating lightsaber with which she used to disable the lock and got out, it's a super heroine story

Yeah, but now who is going to support the lock. Now he is out of a job since he is disabled, and good luck finding work as a broken lock, especially one that got all busted from a vibrating lightsaber.

user202362
so kingkong wookie and the lock live happily ever after?

user202362
9:50 AM
maybe wookie is a hoarder

Maybe, or maybe he is a smuggler and just pawns the lock off at the first hot rock he can find for a cheap bottle of my favorite alcohol when I was just trying to get my life back together!

10:18 AM
Okay, so that's where we'll draw the line then

brainstorming ended

10:36 AM
Folks, did you know that 10! seconds are equal to 6 weeks? Now all bugs and features will be fixed/implemented more "fast".

11:30 AM
@alexolut I think you have it the other way around ;p

user202362
@TravisJ indeed kingkong sized anything is good for smuggling :p

12:27 PM
@JourneymanGeek hmm ... why? seconds is less than weeks :)

every 10 seconds takes 6 weeks ...

10!

@JourneymanGeek wps? weeks per sec? :)

ten... factorial? Oh my

@JourneymanGeek оh ... yours! :)

sorry @Stijn that I oppose that dupe ....

2:13 PM
@rene I find your opposing the dupe to be rude and offensive, I'm already writing up an extensive Meta post about it!
In all seriousness, no worries, I don't really care what happens to that question
it's a trainwreck

ooh POPCORN!
I mean link?

@Stijn Awesome! I love meta attention.
@JourneymanGeek nah

that "Hinduism HNQ" MSE post...
I think OP hasn't visited Islam.SE...

@Stijn I was waiting for delete votes to come in but it doesn't happen.
@AndrewT. I'm highly confused by that post

@rene User kinda wants to impose his eurocentric viewpoints on others IMO ;p
(I'd like to say, Adam's answer on that is the answer I wish I had posted. Its insanely elegant, and gets to the point)

2:20 PM
anyway, yeah... I don't see anything wrong with the HNQ... it's quoting from somewhere, still better than "asking and giving advice on other religion site"

@JourneymanGeek to be honest: eurocentric viewpoints are the best

da
@rene ehhhh

nein

The americans would disagree.
The asians... would... I donno. The chinese would disagree, the japanese might too. The indians probably would be having a north/south divide, but agree its the british's fault.

I remember reading about a group of people wanting to ban words like "master" and "slave" in IT context, because it "refers to slavery" or something like that. And they were serious about it.

2:22 PM
yup
and here's the problem I had with the question - how likely is someone to google randomly, find the site, read just the quotes and get offended?

@Stijn that is why I have a Gert and Samson class to prevent such issues.
Or K3

Found it, I was thinking of this: github.com/django/django/pull/2692
@rene I see our Belgian culture has successfully taken over your country

I expected to find something like "How can I make this slave to work" on SU, but was disappointed
@JourneymanGeek but sometimes Google quotes part of an answer, so it can be seen as "out of context" without reading the actual post though
(not to defend OP, but that's a fact)

but what would you search for?

don't ask me... though anyone can search for anything...

2:28 PM
lol
@rene I don't own a dog. I have a canine room-mate ;p

dogs owning dogs would be weird indeed

also, didn't expect this user to post on MSE about edit intent conflict. Probably I should rejected the suggested edit when I was reviewing it, but I was not sure about the suggestion either

@JourneymanGeek special breed ...

@AndrewT. I don't particularly like hypotheticals. We have enough real issues to sort out, and he probably just has that as a framing device for "I disagree with what's said there"

2:32 PM
@Stijn Oh, they updated?

@Stijn oh. Woooooooof

@rene Yeah, the Dutch one wanted to quit, so they replaced them all.

Blame the Dutch

Gertje needed a new pool of potential girlfriends anyway

lol

2:35 PM
@rene this is slightly bizzare. What did I just watch?

to be fair, you're not exactly the target audience :p

@JourneymanGeek actually, the Samson mentioned by rene is a talking dog from Belgium: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samson_en_Gert_(TV_series)

tbis almost seems like a kiddy show

@Stijn wait, what? Isn't @JourneymanGeek a toddler?

@rene Not really ;p

2:40 PM
Ok, then it might not be for you ...

(also, roomie disapproves. Damned snobby dog only likes classical)

Not sure if you have ever seen this @Stijn (sorry, in Dutch only)

0_0
the kids look either frightened, or like they're in on a joke...

@rene hadn't seen it yet no :p

(and its the same kids)
and the guy on the right looks like taller dutch Hamster.

2:44 PM
just watched the MV... very euro-pop...

toddlerpop
@Stijn @rene you eurocentric people are strange

Thanks!

@rene what did I watch...

K3 is a Belgian-Dutch girl group with a Dutch repertoire, whose current line-up is composed of Hanne Verbruggen, Marthe De Pillecyn and Klaasje Meijer, mainly aimed at pre-adolescent children. The name of the group is derived from first letters of the three original members' first names: Karen Damen, Kristel Verbeke and Kathleen Aerts. Kathleen Aerts left the group in 2009. Josje Huisman was chosen as K3's new member on October 3, 2009. Their music is produced by production company Studio 100 and is written by Miguel Wiels, Alain Vande Putte and Peter Gillis. K3 was founded by Niels William. The...

but well... perhaps still better than this girl band

2:48 PM
@AndrewT. hard to explain ...

@AndrewT. actually, they arn't too bad

heh, I admit I like it though :p

also, not the most batshit thing you can link
headbanger is... strange
