@rene mentioned where? Can't see any mention in his answer...

Oh, you are one of the funny guys :(

user202362
The simple answer is because most people are not that funny.

scratches head

user202362
what ... if ... it's because people who say things like that lack a sense of humour to start with?

I think "most people are not funny" is not accurate, more like "most people don't come to Stack Exchange sites to look for fun".

user202362
6:29 AM
productivity and sense of humour are two orthogonal dimensions, there is no evidence or proof that fun people are not talented

or "lack the proper sense of humor"

Define proper sense of humor

user202362
Opportunity cost. Every minute spent participating in an entertaining 'fun' post is time that someone could have spent asking or answering a substantive question, something practical that solves an actual problem for hundreds or thousands of people.

@rene "the sense of humor required to distinguish between the fun/noise part of a post and the actual content of that post". :)

user202362
or ask/answer a questions that only has 76 views in it's entire life span ... and most got there by mistake

@ShadowWizard I doubt if we're good at that ...

just over 1 view per year ... I guess we could have done without that question...
@Telkitty let me ask sede ...

@rene of course not, that's why @Robert is correct
@rene sede sounds like siri

@Telkitty so asking a question on SO is "putting all the eggs into a basket"?? How?

I got more downloads on my funny cat apps than my trip plan apps

user202362
but funny cat apps are useless by that answer's standard

user202362
Personally I think my trip plan app is much much more useful than my funny cat app, I use it to find facilities when on the road

6:57 AM
Maybe you should bundle them. Plan a trip for visiting all funny cats

user202362
but what I think it's useful and what market find it more interesting are two different things

@rene but Pops declined a specific icon, after considering and checking it.

@Cerbrus Thanks for the link. Haven't bothered with chat rooms because the link to them is in such an inobviuos place. After reading about half-an-hour worth of SOCVR chat I think I won't be bothering much in the future either, unless I decide to join a close or burninate event. Too much chatter. — Klas Lindbäck 2 days ago

Yeah, we discussed it in our backroom but decided that we want to be a place where you can hangout as well. That comes with chatter. Go to SOCVFinder or Campaigns for focus.

Well, there's "hangout" and then there's "be a 12-year-old who makes a mess everywhere"...
1.2k messages/day, and very few are even worth reading.

3:24 PM
Yep
@hichris123 it doesn't look like chatter has ever been a topic on a roommeeting
We might give it a try for the next meeting to see how / if that has merit among the regulars

Perhaps, but that probably means the regulars don't care.

The problem I see a bit is that you need a lively room to remain interesting to be in.
The room was meant to exhale a bit while wading through crap

I wonder how well it's actually achieved that purpose...
Or has it become just another room for people to hang out in, but with a slightly moderational focus?

So I don't want to loose that aspect but I agree that most of the members are more vocal about .. stuff ... then they are about moderation
@hichris123 we had this topic in April
the lead-in to that was a bit different but back then we thought we were OK
Can we please be a bit more boring would be good slogan I guess

Yeah, I dunno... I'm not sure whether the room has provided any direct benefit to the system. Although, maybe it is and it's just not noticeable due to SO scale.

3:38 PM
Is providing benefit to the system important?
Does it hurt much?

I would assume so... if you're doing a bunch of work but nothing changes, did you really do that work? Did it really matter that you did that work?

No, it doesn't matter what we do but if two users that would normally have given up stayed afloat in /review I would call that profit.

Eh, I suppose, but at SO scale does it matter? I'm not sure.

My take on SOCVR was: if high-rep users give-up are there users that won't give-up and if so, do they have voice.
The original idea was from Andrew to recognize that, I basically kept it going on my own for a long time
And scale does matter, yes. It sucks when you don't seem to make any impact on a /review queue
That is why I try to stay away from targets and efficient and maor votes discussions
You need a long term commitments from users that kind-of know what they are doing
Those need to be recognized, catered for, culled a bit, whatever to keep them interested
I hope SOCVR plays a part in that. The SOCVR isn't a goal by itself
If SE staff pulls the plug on it, fine. I'll hang out here
So if you don't want that to happen, make sure that room stays on track

I have neither the time nor the patience for that. :P Nor would I probably be good at it.

3:55 PM
Sure, and that is OK. I'm happy to take advice from people with a different view who also happen to know what they are doing. But I'm not going to actively shape that room into something nobody knows the outcome of. I'll try to push things a bit in a direction I think is a better fit, if I get feedback that helps me recognizing what is wrong.
It is difficult to see the system from within the system and even harder to change it

Fair enough. But it's probably easier for me to just ignore the room vs. to not too constructively complain every so often. :)

@hichris123 I disagree, I rather have feedback now and then to prevent this whole group think gets surprised when there is yet another meta drama.

Meta drama? I don't really think my complaints would be drama-worthy. Just little annoyances.

I need to know why people feel the organization of moderation as done by the room has negative side-effects or is not helpful or is to chatty.
@hichris123 your small annoyance can be someones trigger to explode

If there was anything that I think would be drama-worthy, it would be the tendency of some members to drift into snark/non-constructive comments.

4:11 PM
@hichris123 yeah, I have the feeling some lose their temper behind their keyboard ;)
If you see some feel free to point it out.

There's too much to point out. :P I probably flag about 10 comments/day from conversations where someone from the SOCVR participated.

Oh, those could be fed into the rude comment detector so we can flag our own stuff.
@hichris123 but I often don't know that I'm rude/snarky.

Some aren't necessarily rude, some are "Don't answer off-topic questions" -> "Why are you wasting your time chastising me" -> etc. So the first comment really shouldn't be posted, because it just leads downhill.
@rene I can't say that I've ever seen a comment of yours that I'd flag.

@hichris123 they are so rude and abusive, they are gone before you see them.

:) Sure.

4:22 PM
@hichris123 Yeah, I find it a bit weird to blame the answerer for a poor question. Maybe we should add some auto-comments for that scenario that are not rude

@rene It almost never goes well, no matter what the wording. People just get defensive.

@hichris123 I close voted the question for being off-topic but I see you answered it. Doesn't the question need an edit then to make it a better fit for the site so your answer has more potential to be helpful for future visitors? If so, please do edit the question into shape.

Hmm, that actually might work.

Those who want to burst into flames still will but it might lead to a couple of good edits

4:49 PM
@hichris123 quick question: are those comments you flag coming from our answers.md? I see the example you used almost literally in there ...

5:03 PM
@rene I guess it was, although with some text added onto the end. Although, that's the only one which I've seen create issues.

@bjb568 How's DevDoodle going?

It's tied to the programming club at my school now, which is going to kick in soon.

Sooo people are actually going to be using it?

Ya know what the ratio of how hard applying to college is made to be to how hard it needs to be is? Too high.
@hichris123 That's the theory.

@bjb568 That's why you're supposed to apply in a year. ;)

I ain't no slacker.

11:32 PM
But this year has the most work. Next year, it's expected you have to deal with applications/etc.

I will strive to set the expectation to be exceeding all expectations.
@hichris123 Bah, I'm only taking 6 HS classes, 3 dual (undergrad/grad) classes, a music theory class, starting and running my own club, participating in SciOly building projects, working on various software things, reading web dev news, and learning math on my own while I miss school for college visits and spend a bunch of time doing college essays and taking the required tests.
It's all ok.
I'm still averaging over 7.5h of sleep.

@bjb568 But not SO. ;)
Do y'all do SciOly competitions?

I have enough SO stuff to point to.
@hichris123 Yeah. I did it 2 years ago and we sucked a lot, but this year is going to be totally different.

Hmm. I've been tempted, but I just never got around to joining.

It's pretty fun.
