A: How to prevent the chicken breasts from drying out

Mr BrooksSimply cover your chicken breasts with streaky bacon. The salt in the bacon and also the fat from the bacon will keep the meat juicy.

Simple, yet delicious. cc @bacon

Tip for incoming college freshmen: if you are going to send your document to an email you found in the footer of a website, at least include some text explaining what it's for ("sent from my iPhone" doesn't count.) Otherwise some webmaster is going to be puzzled.

Can you rename the Deep Web chatroom? meta.deepweb.stackexchange.com/questions/24/…

user315433
Is there a clear winner?

well, kinda
the chatroom is pretty empty at the moment and it's not like we have a huge userbase to discuss it over again

user315433
Still, 7 vs 6 is not really clear.

@sandwich that was pretty good, thanks

It's now 7 vs 7, I hope that cleared things up.

12:43 AM
Thanks @bjb but the deadline was 40 minutes ago

@Quill Fine, but at least make it "The Inner Layer". Just "Inner Layer" sounds weird.

okey

user315433
I'd say it's too close to call and wait for more suggestions/votes. Building community on a rigid schedule doesn't really work, as SE found out years ago.

WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING AT ME?

because you can never have too many communities

user315433
12:49 AM
Because small caps are a lost art.

It's like that for YOUR COMMUNITIES though too. Did YCS hack in or something?

user315433
They were like that for a long time. The footer has all-caps headers, too.

@Quill ah, yes. Our friend there has asked 38.75% of all questions on that site.

that's why I said graduated

@Boann: 0) privacy != anonymity. 1) this has been publicly documented for years, and... It's optional (you don't have to provide an email). We recently changed the system to use a salted hash for most users by default, meaning you have to opt-in to exposing even your hashed email. 2) Most of The Internet works this way, and has for many years - you can avoid it if you really want to. 3) HTTPS has never worked properly on SO - we're working on fixing that, but there are many hurdles. — Shog9 ♦ Oct 6 '13 at 15:41

2:34 AM
also please don't post my profile in response to that question

@Quill I've not discussed it with the rest of the team, but it looks to me that many of the questions would be fine for our Tor site. For the first day or so, it seemed like most of the questions on main could have been on meta. It's sorta a red flag when questions include the name of the site in their title. It seems to suffer the AI problem:
Robert Cartaino on December 23, 2010
On Monday afternoon, we unceremoniously closed down a Stack Exchange site: Artificial Intelligence.

user315433
Suddenly, the issue of naming the chatroom doesn't look so big anymore.

Yeah, there's a bit of disjoint opinion as to how we handle Tor-related questions

@JonEricson They're trying it again you know...

Artificial Intelligence

Proposed Q&A site for people concerned with questions on how, why, and what with AI. The world is moving with OpenAI, TensorFlow, Ex Machina, Singularity, etc, and we want to understand what is happening with technology, philosophy, cybernetics, and soft/hardware.

Currently in commitment.

I'm for the approach where we require it to be non-Tor specifically, but I don't believe Meta has an authoritative post about it yet

2:45 AM
@hichris123 AI proposals are the background radiation of Area 51.

Also, that blog post was slightly messed up (still cleaning up from the switch): github.com/StackExchange/stack-blog/pull/238

@JonEricson that blog post was good insight

@Quill It's almost certainly going to be impossible to exclude Tor questions. The problem is there doesn't seem to be enough non-Tor questions to sustain the site.
@hichris123 Sadly, I don't have a commit bit on that project.

@JonEricson Obviously you need to fix that.

Okay, well, thanks @JonEricson, your feedback was both helpful and appreciated

Pergamino (Spanish pronunciation: [perɣaˈmino]) is an Argentine city in the Province of Buenos Aires. It has a population of about 104,985 inhabitants as per the 2010 census [INDEC] and is the administrative seat of its county, Pergamino Partido. Its UN/LOCODE is ARPGO. == History == Long valued for its many springs and fertile land, the area had been home to the Charrúa and Araucanian people when it was first noticed by Spanish colonist around 1620. Becoming a posada along the trade route between colonial Buenos Aires and Córdoba, the settlement was given its name on 3 January 1626, for ...

The Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office is the title of the official resident cat of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom at 10 Downing Street. Only three cats, Humphrey, Sybil and Larry, have been given the title officially; other cats were given this title affectionately, usually by the British press. There has been a resident Treasury or Downing Street cat employed as a mouser and pet since the reign of Henry VIII, when Cardinal Wolsey placed his cat by his side while acting in his judicial capacity as Lord Chancellor, an office he assumed in 1515. == History == Official records released...

@Sunshine Morning Quack!

I wish to appeal my permanent ban from RPG Stack Exchange.
On that basis the ban has nothing to do with any further action on the site itself, nor is motivated by anything other than a personal disagreement with the moderator on Meta.

7:58 AM
@PeterDavidCarter not permanent, one year.
I've seen users with a full year ban coming back, it's not permanent.

Ah. Ok. The message I got says: "For theses reasons, compounded by being unwilling to accept responsibility for your behaviour, you are not a good fit for the Roleplaying Games Stack Exchange at this time and your current suspension has been upgrade to a permanent ban."

I never heard of permanent ban on SE.

@PeterDavidCarter oh. I don't think moderators have the authority for such a thing, and your profile show one year suspension. @Shog can a site moderator decide to put a permanent ban like that?

There's only suspension, which I have seen as long as more than 7 years.

8:00 AM
They say they understand don't using words like 'non-consensual' and 'red-flags' in combination to describe actions might be seen as triggering and unwelcome and have prompted an emotional response.

@Peter you better contact the team directly about it.
Either email or the contact us form, both reach the same place.

I am. I should probably take a little bit of time to compose myself and write a response which addresses every aspect of the e-mail.

True.
@bacon well, there is 50 years network wide suspension, CM's sometimes do this for heavy trolls or spammers.

Unfortunately they refer to a number of comments which have been deleted. Is there a way I can retrieve deleted comments so I might be afforded a chance to speak fully in my own defence?

@Derpy Quack!

8:03 AM
@PeterDavidCarter you can't, but if you remember the post where the comments were posted you can link to those posts, and SE team can see the deleted comments.
(as can any moderator)

All I did was post something they didn't understand and/or didn't want to know about. That is: I made a post which used some real-life and RPG terms interchangeably to demonstrate the manner in which the one might bleed into the other.

@PeterDavidCarter no point trying to convince us. We can't do anything, and it's only one side of the story.
SE team can see the whole picture, we can't.
So, better have it all in the email you'll be sending. :)

@Sunshine well, I assume @Peter here already understand the nature of the Tavern... :)

right, that's it; it's time for the nuclear option: I'm changing my profile pic on Meta

8:07 AM
@Peter if it's any comfort you're not alone. @UNIMATRIX is also suspended for a whole year, even though on a different site and for different reason, but he also believes this was done wrongly.
Dunno if he contacted the team about it, guess he did, so my point is don't build your hopes too high, and expect the worst. (i.e. suspension will not be lifted)

Yeah, I don't expect it to be.
Also the picture I wanted won't resize the right way, so I guess I'm stuck with this one.
It's not even like I had much rep on there, and I expected any question I asked to be auto-downvoted anyway (there's always a way to find a reason). It just feels wrong to let people get away with things when you know their reasoning to be malicious. It feels like encouraging them to do it again because they see that they can.

@PeterDavidCarter yeah, happens to me too with real life pictures I sometimes use as avatars.... :/
@PeterDavidCarter I get your point, but as in the real world, sometimes things are not 100% right or just. (or, people have different definition for "right" and "just".)

As you are suspended on 3 different SE sites at present, there might be something you may have misunderstood about how SE sites work...

Like: "You are welcome to appeal your ban if you manage to overcome these problems, whether through personal growth or the enlistment of professional help." Seriously. Professional help?

@PeterDavidCarter huh? Where you saw it?

8:14 AM
That's in the message they just sent me. Signed off by three RPG mods.

Well... I read his meta post, and I really think he's confronting mods in wrong way.
(IMHO)

I tried the right way and nothing happened. It was the only option I could think of -- to try to divorce the 'self' from the equation so people could try to look at things objectively. But if you think there are better ways to deal with it, I'd be very willing to take suggestions.

@PeterDavidCarter well, that might indeed be out of place. Just include this in the email to the team. But like I said, any coin has two sides. You show us only one side, and we can't possibly know what's on the other side.

The very first thing I see is to not use physiological experiment as comparison. It sounds wrong to me, like labeling 'nazi' to someone.

To be fair I'm directly quoting the e-mail they sent and signed off on. I really don't think it appropriate to be implying users need professional help because they disagreed with a decision you made about moderation and maintain they have done nothing wrong. But I do think its important to try to see both sides of everything.
Perhaps. I can certainly see why they might have been upset by reference to The Stanford Prison Experiment, but I really, really do so their behaviour as analogous, though obviously to a lesser degree, which I should perhaps have made clear, but this was an immediate reaction to the comments about 'red-flags' 'non-consensual [DMing]' and 'maybe [your RPG group] just can't stand you'.
all of which are still maintained as supposedly acceptable by moderators

@Sunshine even chat messages?

@Sunshine That's natural.
But if it's chat messages also, it's unnatural.
I mean, who wants to see me ping-attack Martin in Chem's chat except Martin?

SE has to make sure that you are not harassing any moderators

Especially with a lot of young mods around, it's a responsible thing to make sure that predators are kept at the bay ...

SE has to make sure the Community Managers don't fall asleep or get bored.

@Telkitty Have there been historical problems with predatory behaviour on the site?
I could certainly understand how some of the moderator language might have seemed more appropriate than it was if members are in some way predisposed to expect it due to past experience with other users or moderators

@PeterDavidCarter It's their everyday meal I believe.
Mods aren't chipping in when you're a good citizen.

Do you mean a good citizen in terms of following the rules in general? Do you have any specific person or case in mind? Might moderators also occasionally act out of personal motivations, as well as in regard to citizenship tests, or does Stack Exchange manage to regulate these tendencies effectively?

We need a Meta Stack Exchange meetup
