Phone number detection needs to be more robust.

Feel free to come up with the algorithm that can match the various phone number formats Smokey sees (don't forget to account for the different, valid, formats for international numbers too)

user315433
5:28 PM
The current algorithm is to remove a bunch of non-word characters before checking.

user315433
But not commas, because, say, on Math one would have 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 etc quite often.

user315433
Another option is to disable check on Math, or make it more strict specifically for Math. I'll look into that.

These spammers are pulling all sorts of tricks to throw spam detection algorithms off.
Gotta go, I've got work to do.

@bluefeet didn't see it since I'm not visiting MSO a lot, but just curious now, what you expect people to do when seeing "Please welcome..."? The obvious thing to do is post something, may it be a comment or answer. :)
Out of curiosity I searched MSE and first result is meta.stackexchange.com/questions/187555/… - looks like the MSE folks are way more educated, or just way less amount of users in there, lol

@ShadowWizard previous ones like the MSE post didn't get anywhere near as many junk answers. I could care less about comments, but the answers were getting flags. I was gone over the weekend so the mods stepped in a locked it to prevent the noise

user315433
@ShadowWizard I think it's meant just as a thing people say, like "How are you?" used as a greeting rather than a question. But many of non-native speakers might take that literally.

user315433
7:30 PM
> Our most recent blog post had an instruction in the title, and 80 people bothered to do so. Apparently, our blog post titles have power. We probably promise only to use it for good.

From Podcast #50, where the summary is formatted as a code block?!

user315433
That post, Say Hi to Nine of Our Newest Newbies, is remarkable: Tim Post was introduced in the middle of a list of sales people.

@bluefeet I see. Interesting then, why this one got so many of those answers?
@404 lol, totally missed it!

@ShadowWizard 24 answers on the post and only 7 are visible
so, yes there was a lot of noise

@bluefeet true, and looks like most are indeed not native English speakers, who indeed too the "Please welcome..." literally. (or <50 rep users who could not comment)

A: What would my Election Candidate score be?

Shog9Here's a SEDE query - this displays the candidate scores for some of the candidates in the 6th election on Stack Overflow. You can use the site-switcher to make this work for user IDs on a different site: Pass it one or more user IDs for the site you've selected, and it'll display a total ...

Ah beautiful, thank you!

@SterlingArcher Did . . . you just call Shog beautiful?

Q: Bike Navigation with Vibrations. Material Needed?

regel androidWe are building a grip which can be used on top of of many types of bike grips in order to build a navigation system described in http://www.teamregel.com/2016/03/15/bike-navigation-with-vibrations/ We have to incorporate a small vibrating motor to the rubber grip which is made. What is the idea...

I wonder ... if the apple fell on Newton hit his head and made him a retard by damaging his brain, would we still be in the dark age because calculus and physics would have not be invented?

user315433
The ideas were in the air already: Barrow, Leibniz... so calculus would be fine. It would take longer to work out the physical principles, and probably nobody would put together something like Principia, but we'd be fine.

So no point showing the protection banner. :)
@rene what, @Bart is still pingable here? That's a surprise, since he's out the star board! :/

Ok, but if the question gets re-opened it is still protected and shows that notice?
