It'd be pretty interesting to see when dead_celebrities overflows.
Maybe they are all on the moon after all.

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I am going to somewhere special

user202362
But the assumption is that the place you go after death, you wouldn't be crying ...

user315433
Okay... I'm back on Mathematics, for the (N+1)-th time.

How much rep would @zaq have if zaq never deleted any account I wonder... ;)

1:16 AM
All of them.

user315433
5:39 PM
Русский язык will finally have mod election (of the still-in-beta kind). No more modlessness... the site was imported in April 2015.

user315433
Actually, it looks more like pro-tem mod appointment, but tagged "election". Confused.

It's still in beta so the elected moderators (chosen by SE employees, decisions affected by community) are only pro tempore
@zaq

user315433
This stuff is not so clear cut anymore; some sites had elections while in beta. You are probably right, but the way the post talked about electing moderators made me think otherwise. Asked the CM to clarify.

user315433
For me, it's the matter of whether I need to get 150 rep soon...

You will lots more rep than that if the site is at least a year old. I had the most rep at Language Learning SE (during private beta and a little during public) and had the answer with the highest score for the moderator election and still lost. I wasn't even considered for backup!
And activity on main and meta with tons of moderation work like editing, flagging, closing, and reviewing
Connecting with users in chat is also critical, one of my very weak points

user315433
5:51 PM
I like voting, not running. No intention of ever running for a mod.

Oh... oops
I though the 150 rep was to qualify for moderator... :(

user315433
If you don't have enough rep to answer protected questions, the protection notice moves to the bottom, replacing the answer box.

user315433
I don't know if I really benefit from protected notices. If I have enough rep to answer protected question, but not enough to protect or unprotect, what am I to do with this information?

Checking the code for my view, the margins are all 15

6:16 PM
This is fine:

user315433
6:56 PM
CM explained that it's a hybrid election, determined by the votes on meta. (But the votes will be relevant only if there are more candidates than vacancies).

user315433
Given the history of the site, I don't expect a lot of volunteers to show up on meta.

user315433
But if they do, we can seriously skew the election with the association bonus. :)

7:14 PM
Any voting advice ;)

user315433
Not yet... CM said he wants 2-3 mods, and there is 1 candidate so far.

7:25 PM
So in theory if we nominate a couple of users from this room and vote on them we can run an SE site in the Tavern style ...
No idea what style that would be, but I like experiments with an uncertain outcome

user315433
There will be an animal gif edited into every question.

I smell success

@Shog9 Hi, you there?

user315433
Looking back, it's remarkable that George Michael's Outside music video (slightly nsfw) got an insane amount of airplay in Russia in the 90s (back when I still lived there). The prevailing conservative stance on homosexuality didn't seem to have any effect on it. Somehow in parallel to Wham! breaking the Chinese entertainment wall in the 80s. Good times.

@Shog9 Can I have a private chat?
@Shog9 I've just got threatened by a mod and I think this is a very serious issue. Can I send you an e-mail?

user315433
9:30 PM
of what?

user315433
A year or so ago I spent a few days on SWOT analysis. 100% waste of time.

I'm limiting myself to 30m.
Whether to continue college apps or drop it all and try jQuery spend another year in high school.

user315433
I don't see anything wrong with another year of high school. It doesn't look like you are in a Ferris Bueller / Mr. Rooney type of a high school.

@zaq of yourself?

user315433
No, of my department.

9:36 PM
Yeah, I should start a consultancy business selling that kind of work-shops.
that will bring in some money

@zaq The problem is there aren't really many classes to take next year, it'll probably be boring.
Benefits of another year in terms of extracurriculars also hinge on there being other techy people around here, which there really aren't that many of.

user315433
You could do something awesome in OSS.

user315433
Not necessarily with local people.

user315433
See also: Manish

Sure, but college people usually don't know much about software, let alone open source.
If I'm applying to someplace broad like Stanford, OSS isn't going to help much.
I dunno, I guess I couldn't get an abortion or something to have something strong to talk about.

user315433
9:55 PM
At the very least, your paper record will be in a more reasonable / conventional shape by then.

user315433
Instead of "first year of HS was bad, and I've only done one more since, so..."

My first year wasn't even that bad.
I think if I get a class rank recalculation, it'll probably make things viable now.

user315433
I never read college applications, but in case of job applications, a candidate who's applying ahead of time is an attractive target only if it looks like we won't get them next year (i.e., they'll grow to be too good for this place).
