The first sentence, "You’re exuberant." Okay... still not enough. English has a lot of adjectives to use here. How about "You’re so flamboyant" next time.

user202362
I am writing a blog on the inefficiency of today's society ... so hard to write. When the topic has been discussed a billion times before, it's much easier to 'borrow' content from other people. But when you are on a brand new field, it's just not as easy ... a lot like renovate vs building a mansion on a cliff

Who knows, maybe I'd use them once in lifetime, but there is no obvious choice for a scanning app, and I don't want to pick one of 20 potentially ad- or mal-ware containing ones.

What's that in English?

@tchrist 3280.84 feet or just over 3/5ths of a mile

It wasn't the 1,000 yards of distance that challenged; it was that the notion of measuring humans in yards. The specificity is wrong, because the answer is almost always 1, unless it’s 2.

@tchrist I'm shorter than 2 meters, yet taller than 2 yards.

2:30 AM
“Instead of asking how many yards fit in a human, better to ask how many humans fit in a yard,” the wise acre observed.
@Frank A disparity of so little consequence that its inconsistency would scarce be noted save by little statesmen and philosophers and divines in search of hobgoblins. To be great is to be misunderstood.

@tchrist A human of exactly 2 meters' height towers over a human who is merely 2 yards in height
And I stand at 74.5 inches

And eyes of blue?

@ShadowWizard Thanks for checking in, and sorry the ping languished here awhile. I'm very glad to see that folks found this valuable enough that they're eagerly awaiting the next one. The season has rolled around where the team is doing lots of planning as well as preparing for our annual company gathering. Since we're kinda jammed up, the 3rd 'Hall will be in early November. I'll be circulating a new post to gather suggested topics before then, so stay tuned. — Ana ♦ Sep 23 at 17:22

Early November of what year?

@Frank You're a pretty short tree.

What if... SE had a "Quora mode", where the sites you are interested in would appear to you as one, without the maze of subdomains?

user315433
I know, /filters. But that is just a collection of links, doing anything (or even reading) requires navigating to a site.

Different privilege levels could be made transparent to user. E.g., votes up/down should stick to the score while you are on the page, even if they get converted into anonymous feedback in the background. (None of the chilling blue popups that discourage visitors from voting.)

I really would not mind SE to have an uncategorized section

coz sometimes I want to post a question such as "what's the longest serving spammer you have encountered", just could not find the right site for it

Suddenly, a brilliant idea hit me! SE career can have a job section called:

user202362

user202362
that's right!

user202362
'fired fox'

user202362
coz a fired fox is one that really needs the next job, isn't it?

user202362
go me!

8:43 AM
@zaq nice idea, but soon after you remove the maze of domain you would be submerged in an entropy of auth levels. Just think about it: you could vote on some questions, get a "your anonymous vote has been recorded" prompt on others, a second you have flagging rights next post you don't, posting a bounty you wouldn't know which score you are going to reduce and so on....

Thank you Lord Rene

One one SE site I see an empty box where the ads should be and clicking it takes me to a 404 page. What's wrong?

Oh, thought it was ELU

Link takes me here (404 page): meta.mathematica.stackexchange.com/ads/ct/…
My adblocker is disabled (always disabled on SE)

I don't see this problem anywhere. Lemme recheck

9:34 AM
I still see the problem if I load the site in private browsing mode, so I guess it's not about cookies or any such thing ...
But it could be specific to my location. Let me try tor ...
I do see it with tor browser too

I guess you should write a meta.Mathematica post
Then if they see it in more than one site, migrate it to meta.SE.

too tired to do that now ... maybe if it doesn't go away by tomorrow

@Szabolcs Is there maybe a deleted answer here? The ad-rotator might still have that ad in their set.

10:09 AM
@rene That's a good guess, but there isn't any recently deleted one that ever had enough upvotes.
There's one deleted on Nov 4 with -2 votes.

OK, then it is up to a dev to figure out what went wrong

@Derpy "Quora mode" would be for reading and writing, no moderating functions (and no bounties). As for voting, that's what I wrote earlier - no blue popups with "your anonymous vote was recorded", the score changes on the page as the user expects, client-side. It doesn't persist on the site, that's all.

user315433
On the down side, the chances are that the contributed content would also be Quora-like, with users opining on anything around them, whether they know anything or not.

There are so many chat-rooms so I could not figure-out which chat room is more appropriate. Sorry for that

(@ShadowWizard)

@AlwaysConfused always look for the room with most users. Over 20 users here are clear indication that's the official room. :)

user334271
okay

4:28 PM
Though I admit, it's not trivial... and room description doesn't really help.

user334271
I did not knew about anysuch rule, yet.

@AlwaysConfused not really a rule, just common sense. :)

user334271

Probably there are sites where the official room got few users, so it's not always correct, but in MSE it is.
Anyway, all good now, question almost reopened. (need one more vote)

Yeah, well, that was kinda the problem - in theory, such a feature could be useful for TONS of stuff: imagine a "PHP mentoring team" or a "regex answer moderation committee" (motto: "now we have M^2 problems"). Besides the obvious "let folks who work together fix the spelling of their company name" stuff. But... We didn't quite know what we were building it for, so it ended up not really working well for anything and was shelved; chances are, we'll end up with something similar, but built to serve specific goals. @Jon — Shog9 ♦ 3 mins ago
