So, yesterday we talked about private use area Unicode, and I looked at U+E000 as an example. Now I want another one, so why not take U+E001. Interestingly, fileformat says "not valid" about the latter, but not about the former.

user259867
Weird. isValidCodePoint is true. I guess this is a glitch on fileformat's part, they should have treated U+E000 the same way.

@UnicornsAreVeryVeryYummy We're played with that, and haven't really found a good way to do it.

Our country is run by and for the special interests, and the career politicians in both parties let it happen.

We look around and see the same old, tired career politicians from yester year running. Hillary Clinton? We know how that movie ends... trillions more in debt, more taxes, and more Benghazis. Radical Islam thrived and grew while Hillary was on the top floor of the state department. Now she wants a promotion?

Okay, so it is multiline

@Bart Hey... nice comment for a pair of glasses. ;)

@Undo Sounds like the first line is interpreted as the title, and everything else is the body

@KevinBrown nope, it's interpreted like an answer

@Undo does Smokey have logic in it for keywords that only go to the HQ but not to the Tavern for testing purposes?

user259867
7:15 PM
@durron597 Not to HQ; there is Smoke Detector School for that purpose. The logic looks like this.

7:30 PM
@1999 I'm thinking about adding logic for keywords like recommend, library, resource, tool, find, article, etc. but obviously that would need a lot of tweaking before it could go live

8:06 PM
@durron597 The Tavern and HQ get the same posts right now, but we do have the capability to send specific reason/site combinations to specific rooms.
(I.e. we send everything except one reason on Ask Ubuntu to their room)

@Undo Do you think that attempting to add tool request logic to Smokey is appropriate, or are you trying to do spam / rude / true garbage only?

@durron597 We're getting all posts anyway (holy crap it just hit me, we're seeing all the posts), it's a good platform to build off of. If we can find tool requests well, why not do it?

@Undo Perhaps I'll work on it this weekend. However IANAPython programmer

@durron597 I'm not either. You should see how many build failure warnings @hichris123 and @ProgramFOX get in their inboxes.

@Undo haha

8:11 PM
It doesn't help that I test in prod.

@Undo Usually a good idea.

Or more accurately, I use CI as my compiler.

The best way to test something is by forcing it upon real live users without checking for bugs first.

@TinyGiant Crowdsource QA

Really, here's the one-line guide to Python: Write psuedocode. It will work. Indentation matters. And for whatever reason, it wants :'s after if's and such.

8:14 PM
You can do that with php too.

nah, too many dollars and arrows and things floating around

<?php if(something): ?><div class="error">Hello</div><?php endif; ?>
The :'s after the ifs and thingys

I thought it worked without the :

same with while, for, etc
Only if it's one line
And I wouldn't try it with html without the colon
or a curly brace, but "endif;" is more descriptive than "}"

Huh
It's been too long since I've used PHP. I'm starting to have reasonable expectations.

8:18 PM
I haven't really used php in an intense manner in a long time either, just for db to json really
But it has been getting better... Somewhat... Slowly...

@durron597 You could do it, but it won't post in here. I don't want Smokey to post low quality posts in here, because then Smokey just gets spammy.
It can post in Smoke Detector School, etc, but not here.

user259867
@Undo Is the excluded reason for AU the nested quotes? ProgramFOX fixed that one recently, so that it targets actual spam and not broken syntax.

user259867
The number of fps went down dramatically.

@durron Possibly a new "Low Quality Posts" room?
If there is not one already

Is there a SO-specific room?
Might be useful at the beginning, considering recommendations aren't universally off-topic

8:27 PM
@KevinBrown heh

@KevinBrown yeah
Heh, Smokey could report certain kinds of things to the SO Close vote reviewers room
Actually, @Undo I bet smokey should start doing that right now - reporting stackoverflow posts to that room

What kind of crap are we talking about?
Or do I need to read back the complete transcript?

@rene be a Shog and find out ;)

@durron597 We'd need a moderator to give it access

8:33 PM
Having posts like that appear in your room
Err that link doesn't work but this one does if you're 10k

@Braiam Watch it, mentioning him also summons him as I found out yesterday...

@Undo Jon Clements is in there pretty often, I'm sure he'd do it

That would be only SO posts then?

@rene Yeah @Undo said earlier that they send all the askubuntu ones to their room

OK, We can try it for a couple of days to see if that works for us

8:37 PM
@rene Cool! @Undo so what needs to happen

@jQuery no one says it was. I always use jQuery (with vanilla js where appropriate). it alleviates alot of the tediousness of javascript for a vast majority of things a web developer needs to do in regards to working with the dom. — r3wt 8 hours ago
more of these alots…

@durron597 I'll go hunt down an SO mod.

Smokey can talk on SO so that is not a problem

And make Smoke an SO chat account

Wow, been pretty quiet on the western front for awhile, I thought smokey was down

@bjb568 jQuery is for lazy programmers, and it unintentionally teaches bad object caching habits, because it is so "easy". You pay for the ease in your overhead.
I don't even use it for animations, because I believe that if your browser is old enough to not support css transitions, then your computer is probably a dinosaur and should not be subjected to animations anyway.

@TinyGiant ... hey! She can hear you :/

@Undo Is Smokey smart enough to have userids for other sites? In other words do the ask ubuntu guys do tp/fp etc. in their room?

@durron597 They can't, Smokey only listens on the Tavern and CHQ

@Undo gotcha

It would be nice to have a "delete" button in the list of one's comments (in the profile), for quick cleanup. Navigating to each post -- opening the question, all answers, rendering all comments, rendering MathJax, then looking for the comment -- is just so much hassle.

user259867
I know the API supports comment deletion, but authorization... meh.

user259867
Does the Close Stats page stackoverflow.com/tools?tab=close&daterange=last30days actually work (for 10K users on SO)? I'm unable to open it on Math.

user259867
hm locking could solve this, yes - but it could add a different issue - question would become harder to maintain. No edits, no retags? not good - given how unlikely is the case we try to address, it feels like killing gnats with a cannon. Lock would apply to all self-closed dupes, while probability of reopening these may be around 0.01% — gnat 12 mins ago

user259867
Little surprise that gnat objects to killing gnats with a cannon

@NormalHuman That happens occasionally. Just reload the page

@NormalHuman oh, 524 is a new number. I got 522

@rene 522 means it can't connect at all, 524 means it connected but got no response

user259867
The 14d version barely managed to appear. It's a database size / querying issue, I think.

Oh, cool

user259867
9:17 PM
Maybe Oded optimized something specifically for SO, and Math wasn't considered.

@NormalHuman I also had a bug report for that but that fixed itself...

user259867
Since Cloudfare is involved, I understand this is not a browser-specific timeout, so changing a browser or its settings wouldn't help.

It is a query timing out for sure

user259867
Yeah, I can get 14d but not 30d or 90d. Will post on meta.Math, I guess.

@Ken White, I don't think the guidelines are dumb. I think the pompous approach that many take on this website is unnecessary and dumb. The point of this site is to help people. It's not to gather reputation to brag to your friends or to use it as a resume builder -- real world people will not jump on hiring someone that can't interact with others no matter how good they are at what they do! I think many here need to re-visit the purpose of answering questions for others in the first place. — theforestecologist 4 mins ago
