Grafana's pretty handy. Here we're looking at live #stackoverflow traffic impact: http://t.co/vGSF9f8Vn1

Hmm. Maybe it's time to go home.
Yeah.
o/

@James When Smokey reboots, the api quota is set to -1 until the next API fetch.

I was going to interrupt that Windows vs OSX conversation with some cat GIFs, but I ended up just spending the last 20 minutes staring at catgifs.org.

sigh

nice :) stackoverflow.com/questions/29517955/… But the question needs one more close vote

3:14 PM
@JasonC we heard you liked cats.

@bummi guess what?

@rene :)

@Doorknob I just realized that happened ^

When did the Tavern go Bronie?

Is there a reason beyond IE sucks that spell check doesn't work in the input box of chat?

3:18 PM

@JasonC the other one where better.

@Undo We'll see if we can get him to edit some code into that question.
@Undo If he's really in that big of a hurry, hopefully he's monitoring it.

he's probably either typing furiously or getting yelled at

@MichaelMcKinley Check out stackoverflow.com/help/how-to-ask, it's short but describes how to get an answer quickly. It may seem time consuming at first, but following those points and asking a question properly, in the end, is much quicker and more effective than a closed question and a back-and-forth in comments. Also, in formulating a clear question, you might just find the issue yourself. — Jason C 38 mins ago

why the heck didn't the editor simply add their own answer?

I hate cache-control. :/

@Braiam Why did you approve? It's a bad edit.
Edits are supposed to fix critical errors with the post, or update the information within it. It's not supposed to add content that doesn't need to be added.

@Braiam killed two with reject and edit, voted to reject three.

@ʎǝʞuoɯɹǝqʎɔ good information should be on top

@Braiam Still, that edit adds information, it should be a completely separate answer.

@jadarnel27 I'm not gonna vote to reopen it.
I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what he's asking, and that probably means it's not clear.

I assume controllers are short lived and that means he would need a place to store emailTextField outside of the controller and fetch it if the controller gets instantiated again?

A: Checking a value in the array using Javascript & AJAX

CalvintwrI see you are a beginner to JS and HTML. Firstly, no you do not need AJAX for this. Secondly, I advise that you try to implement something really simple called http://www.listjs.com/ I selected this for you because I think it is simple enough. This should get you started.

Is this even an answer?

@Unihedro It's link-only with fluff.

@Unihedro is ajax really necesary?

@Unihedro That author looks familiar.

In plaintext form, why not?
You can use eval().

And I'm definitely not going to recreate the entire internet on our server by redocumenting everything under the sun in our wiki.
@hichris123 The bigger ones, probably not, since I'm pretty entrenched. I have some leeway for snark. I save it for when it's really needed though.
I should just redirect the wiki subdomain to archive.org.

Try to make the post longer than 400 characters, after that threshold any anonymous suggested edit that radically changes the post is automatically rejected. — Mad Scientist Mar 22 '14 at 9:57

@hichris123 Point being: I'm now going to put a different cat GIF in the header for every page on the wiki. I might make a MediaWiki module for it. Thanks for the idea.

@MartijnPieters Yes. That IP is blocked now.

5:38 PM
@pizza might have to.

@JasonC np. :P Also Unicornify pictures.

@JonEricson thanks.

@MartijnPieters we could have smokey check on those @Undo @ProgramFOX

@hichris123 Good idea, actually I can shove unicornify in common.js no problem.

@JonEricson: does making it > 400 chars take it out of the running for the automated spam detection systems?

5:39 PM
@rene Smokey doesn't check edits, but I've created a bot that checks suggested edits, perhaps I can do something with that. github.com/ProgramFOX/SO-EditMonitor

@rene need more signal? I can dig up more.

@ProgramFOX That would be cool; should probably be a separate bot if smokey regularly gets close to the api quota.

@ProgramFOX Will that possibly be integrated into Smokey?

@ProgramFOX give that a try, I'll help in the SO tavern if needed

@JasonC no reason we can't get another token :)

5:40 PM
@MartijnPieters No. But it does reduce the odds that the post will be targeted.

True

@ProgramFOX Smokey actually ran out of quota this morning.

If we're running two 'applications', and they both happen to be on the same framework (smokey), I don't see a reason not to have two tokens.

@Undo I'd rather not bloat Smokey more though. Eventually it becomes the One Bot to Rule Them All.

true

5:41 PM
@MartijnPieters Let's see if the bot from @ProgramFOX can spot those first

@cybermonkey I don't see any problem with having two bots for two tasks, so probably not.

We could have some 'hook-in points', then make little modules for it

@hichris123 Sharing the keyword and blacklist database would be helpful, though, at least.

user259867
@cybermonkey Has it really, or was it "-1" quota report?

-1 quota means it hasn't made a request yet and doesn't know what quota it has left, @cybermonkey

5:42 PM
5 pings in 2 minutes - new record! :D

@ProgramFOX Could I have a go at impenting that? (using EditMonitor)?

@JasonC @Undo push time for bayes.db?

@JonEricson check, then 400+ chars is a good idea here. After weeks of dutifully rejecting the onslaught I think I've had enough now. :-)

@hichris123 on it

@ProgramFOX Was a -1, had to reboot smokey to fix.

5:42 PM

True.

5:46 PM
@ProgramFOX "{" or "}" on a line by itself, not in a code block, would be another good low quality filter. Speaking of bloated bots.
Might be tough with just a regex though.

@JasonC We can test this experimentally, now that the support emails are outsourced to animuson and JNat. If you see them getting subtly bitter...

'Hiring from within' should become our default practice, and that must include people that have been giving us an enormous amount of time just because they like what we're doing. We should consider giving our moderators 'first dibbs' on our new job postings prior to making them public in cases where that makes sense.
