grr, hate it when that happens

@Frank The thrower attachment on my tractor kept clogging. It's not a 2-stage, so..

@KevinBrown "you can accept an answer just now" — what??? :P

@LynnCrumbling we got 10 1/2" up here
*down here
@LynnCrumbling You should put some hydraulics and a bucket on your tractor - much faster than a thrower.
although it is a little messier
@KevinBrown Ikr? Such a pain to wait momentarily to kill stuff.

user259867
@KevinBrown The perfect occasion to use the existence of two JavaScript zeros: negative "just now", positive "momentarily".

user259867
12:05 AM
Seriously, I thought they already replaced "just now" with "momentarily" in some contexts, but I could be wrong.

@FamousBlueRaincoat On a related note, if you do this, I hate you.
(So does every programmer who has to make sense of your code ever. :P)

@Shog9 I. WANT. THAT!

@KevinBrown but admit, it has a sense of humour :D

Was just discussing with Dalgas the idea that we need some path here to send questions from HIQ back into Triage. Not, "I don't understand this" or even "there's something missing here" but "there's no way in hell this ever should be answered on Stack Overflow".
Thinking this is a job for... Very Low Quality flags!

:O

user259867
12:12 AM
I don't get it. The reviewers in HIQ are on average more reliable than those in Triage (2000 vs 500, also HIQ is not just clicking buttons, so less attractive). If a HIQ reviewer says it's bad, trust them and send it to Close queue.

@Shog9 wait, but VLQ flags pumps the questions into triage

eh? eh?

yeah

user259867
status-need-a-colossal-review-flowchart

12:13 AM

oh... so you will create a new task and rehash the same question in "triage" again?

user259867
I detect the presence of a directed loop.

@Braiam Exactly

user259867
What advantage does this offer over giving HIQ reviewers a close option and sending to Close queue?

12:17 AM
If it hits the VLQ queue, don't some people have the option to close/delete questions from there?

@FamousBlueRaincoat Besides, there would need to be a flag button for VLQ...

user259867
@KevinBrown My guess is that LQ queue is going to be answers-only eventually.

@FamousBlueRaincoat Easy - don't particularly want to encourage that choice. It always ends the same way.
"Hmm... Spend 10 minutes editing this, or 20 seconds voting to close it. Hmm... HMMM..."
If you don't want to edit, don't be in this queue. There's a big ol' close queue that needs your help...

user259867
So, 10 minutes editing vs 5 seconds pushing VLQ.

btw, @Shog9, put some spam on the triage audits... I haven't seen any

12:19 AM
@Braiam ?

Idea: Have a "close" button that's just a link to the close queue

@Braiam there is

ha!

mm...

@Braiam There are spam triage audits

ok, then can we stop seeing them in the VLQQ?

One of those Gmail support questions.
Someone needs to teach LQP reviewers that "Please try" != comment.
Usually not a great answer, but an answer nonetheless.

user259867
@hichris123 "Please try indenting your code with two spaces instead of four".

@hichris123 Those are hit or miss though, quite often I've seen "Please try X" where "X" is "reloading the server", "recompiling", or "checking again"

A: Categorized views in past flags (helpful/declined/disputed)

nicaelI think it's just the great idea. I made a script which will load all of your helpful/ declined/ disputed flags. To use, first go to your flags stats (http://{some-se-site-there}.stackexchange.com/users/flag-summary/your-id). Then run one of the following scripts. To show declined: javascript...

Yay I did it!!!!! Now works perfectly.
Go to your flag history, paste the script in the address bar or console & run!!!

This is going to be another Gold, isn't it...

@hichris123 What KB said and the fact that half the time, what they're recommending the OP "try" has nothing to do with the question.

@AstroCB We're not here to judge technical accuracy, just "is it crappy enough to delete"? Unless, of course, it's a Python answer to a Java question, or something that blatantly obvious.

@hichris123 The keyword there is nothing.

12:47 AM
@AstroCB Someone's idea of nothing and my idea of nothing could be different... like say stackoverflow.com/review/low-quality-posts/7251040

@hichris123 I should mention that when you mentioned "please try" questions, I wasn't thinking of those
I've actually got an auto comment for answers lacking explanation that I heavily use in the VLQ queue

@KevinBrown Yeah, that's not a good example. Hold on...
@SmokeDetector fp nike

@hichris123 Registered question as false positive and added title to Bayesian doctype 'good'.

user259867
@AstroCB Not convinced that prepending "Try this" to a 100% code answer is an improvement.

12:50 AM
@hichris123 Looks relevant, "Looks OK"

@FamousBlueRaincoat To tell the truth, it usually the best course of action unless the OP decides to add an explanation.

Here's one that you reviewed, @KevinBrown: stackoverflow.com/review/low-quality-posts/7207555

user259867
But what does it add? I think any reader would assume that the code is meant for OP to use, whether or not those words are there. I mean, it's not posted there for typing practice.

@hichris123 Changing it to "Use XYZ" would fix it.

@hichris123 This is more of what I'm thinking of stackoverflow.com/review/low-quality-posts/7250997

12:52 AM
@FamousBlueRaincoat Nothing, but it gets it out of the VLQ queue without being deleted.

@KevinBrown I don't know where to draw the line on those. Although it's not a helpful answer, it does provide a suggestion... I usually skip those.

FYI, I'm looking for examples of where the LQP queue tried to delete a "wrong" answer. I'd really appreciate links if you come across any.

@Undo What is this going to be used for?

That particular example really should be a comment, because even though I'm not familiar with the technologies, there's no way that solves the problem (whatever it may be, because the question is too broad). I personally think that it should be deleted, but it doesn't technically fall under NAA guidelines.

For some reason, four spaces is generating a new line for me?!

@hichris123 Shouldn't it? Inspecting generated HTML in the preview shows nothing unusual: the paragraph closes with </p>, code block opens with <pre>

No, pressing the space bar four times (to make a code block) made a new line. Maybe a Chrome bug.

@AstroCB Well "Needs Improvement" does say "where edits by the author or others would result in a question that is clear and answerable". The whole "author or others" bit makes it super fuzzy.

"by the author" is an option there. So the button suggests using this option for questions where the author needs to add information.

Q: "Your flagging history" is broken when a user has only raised helpful spam flags

MoosemanTake a look at this: The "Your flagging history" summary is gone! On a site where I have more flags... This is fine. It seems that whenever the first section has no data to show, nothing shows.

Huh, just saw the Helper queue.

Q: Please save my edit summary when edited within grace period

MoosemanSteps to reproduce: Edit the body of any post. Edit it again, but only modify the edit summary. Check the revisions page. The original edit summary will be retained. A user has to edit the post body, or saving the edit summary silently fails.

@Braiam close > too broad

close. Rec-tool, maybe? Unclear?
@Mooseman Maybe that's what the new "rank by facts, not links" feature tries to achieve

@JanDvorak I hope so, but their accuracy had better be perfect. I also wonder how they'll rank political or religious posts against each other...

2:03 PM
one definition of truth is "statement consistent with reality". As far as religions go, I'd prefer "consistent with the Bible", though. The former is too hard to verify using automated means.

@JanDvorak well, then the arabs wouldn't rank, since they use the Coran as source of their believes

"consistent with their own religious texts"?
Then evolutionists might qualify

exactly

qualify as in be allowed to competition, not qualify as in match the criteria for truth
