I think they meant to write "neutral", but whatever. Looks like Smokey also works as a bad spelling detector now. :)

An anonymous user insists on vandalizing this question. See this edit and this edit. Should it be placed under protection?

Protection doesn't prevent edits

12:24 PM
So far the reviewers seem to be doing their job right for once, so maybe it's a bit early for protected status.

You can't protect an answer anyway

It's the question they're trying to edit.

Oh. Still, protection does not affect edits.

Locking may be a bit harsh.

12:26 PM
I think it's only a full lock that stops edits. I've seen rejected edit counts on anonymous users so I guess eventually they might get an edit ban regardless (but not sure)

Well, there's no reason to panic yet, because so far the edits are rejected.
So locking is too powerful a tool for now.

That, only SE can do.

Bring teh shog powarz to ban teh userz

It's an anonymous editor, else I'd have commented or flagged.

I wonder getting a chat user to be a mod would be a good idea because ... the habit of chatting too much?

12:36 PM
Moderators are supposed to visit chat every now and then. They also moderate chatrooms.

> Moderators are supposed to visit chat every now and then
no
There are plenty of moderators who don't even have a chat account.

IIRC it is one of the questions of the moderator elections.

Hmm
I'll try something regarding mods and chat later

It's not a moderator's highest priority, but I believe moderating chat is within their duties.

@S.L.Barth It's not.
There are no questions. Huhwhat?
(Or are you talking about the "unofficial" ones on Stack Overflow)

12:41 PM
No, I meant our elected diamond mods. Not 2K / 3K / 10K+ users.

Yes. You don't have to answer questions to participate in an election...?
(except on Stack Overflow, which is done via meta and not "officially" baked-in to the election process)
Anyway, chat moderation is most definitely not an obligation for diamonds.
(gotta go eat food now)

user202362
Also +12 reps ... looks awfully like a manual unban with mud on top to cover the track

@Doorknob There's very little that is an obligation for diamonds. Show up once in a while, don't reveal secret private stuff, and don't screw things up more than they already are. I can't think of any others.

user259867
SO expects a bit more in terms of flag handling (for the sake of completeness).

It's a regex escape function

Yeah, except ASCII alphanumerics. Or you could go with what Mozilla recommends and use string.replace(/[.*+?^${}()|[\]\\]/g, "\\$&").
