^ Is nobody else going to point out the painful irony?

2:22 AM
Is more funny when we don't ;)

So this question just got posted on Biology, and it's seriously weirding me out, which is strange, because I'm not easily weirded out by people. It's basically some guy on a rant about how he fantasizes about hurting women, then in the next comment completely denying it. I flagged it, but it should probably be deleted straight away. I don't know exactly how to describe it - just check it out.

flag it, then move on

I did. I'm not engaging any more at all, I just wanted to make sure some mods saw it before it sat around for hours. Thanks.

don't worry, once it hits the -3 it won't be shown to innocent passerby, or we could just deal with it with offensive flags

user259867
Experiment shows: Casting votes via the API doesn't count as visiting the site.

2:28 AM
I didn't know that about the -3. Interesting.

-4
But it's trolling.

weird, I was sure it was -3... maybe that only applies to spam/offensive
> 3 flags on a question (spam or offensive): question is banished from the front page and all question lists except search results.
yep, that was it

user259867
A question is dropped from the page if it either hits the score of -4 through any means, or gets -3 spam/offensive flags

Oh, OK

@MattDMo I'm suspicious that it might be a longtime troll. I contacted the bio mods about it; hopefully one of them will see it soon and nuke the post.

2:35 AM
that would make sense - at first it seemed a cry for help, which is what I was thinking when I wrote my comment. After all the OP's comments, though, there's definitely some trollishness peeking through. Still, weird....

user259867
How about we just mass-flag it then? Mods might be stuffing themselves with turkey.

That's what I was hinting before
I count 6 users

Hello, me am in the middle of nowhere, no wifi.
On spotty "4G" (i.e. not LTE), so if I get eaten and you guys don't hear about it, know that I was eaten.

@bjb568 No you aren't. Or you'd have no phone nor power.

We hope you will have a fateful encounter ;)
@tchrist that may or may not apply to my country

user259867
2:41 AM
No LTE... Some of us used EDGE protocol back in the days, and didn't complain.

@tchrist There's power, but the internet literally doesn't happen on this street.

my iPhone 4s uses EDGE most of the time
or 3G
when battery isn't an issue (hint: it is)

@bjb568 Get your parents to sign a consent form and we'll send you to the real middle of nowhere.

Ya ever been to Kentucky?

Lexington. Loved it. Wished I could stay.

There would be no streets whither I would send him.

Ya ever been in <non-US country>?

Ok, well this place is worse than Kentucky.

Canada doesn't count, at least not the part far from the Arctic Circle.

2:46 AM
Right here in my pocket.

Go two miles west of me and kiss your phone goodbye.
Maybe just one.

I just need to go to another room to do the same thing...

Me too.

actually, I don't

That's why I have a real phone.

Hello, I want to know: Is there any expected duration for defining on-topic for a beta site after launched? i.e. In how-much duration/period a launched beta site should have on-topic defined on help centre page (http://site.stackexchange.com/help/on-topic) ? example: within a year etc.

Any meta post or blog related to this?

user259867
@Pandya There is no network-wide standard on that. Also, there is a difference between "the users mostly agree on what the scope is" and "the scope is articulated in the help center". One can happen without the other.

@Pandya Not that I heard of. There may be sudden policy changes in the future and no one can tell that at first. It's not useful to do that distinction.
Hmm, @Normal is there a way to find out which sites' reports Smokey will notify you of?

Something like we found on area51 : healthy, needs-work, excellent ?
Is there any relevant with on-topic definition?

8:24 AM
@Pandya Area51 stats are really crude. Don't bother yourself with them.
I had an answer on this. Actually, my first ever answer on site metas.

user259867
Those numbers on Area 51 have stopped being relevant long time ago. If you want something similar, sure: the scope must be defined within 248 days from the beginning of private beta.

A made up numbers, like the criteria in Area 51.

@NormalHuman link the reference/source

@Pandya No need for that. It's a well-known fact.

Then, it'll attract experts, since quality stuff is going on there.

My last question date?

user202362
it's about the downvotes as well ... usually they come within a day or two

Yeah, didn't you just get an automatic question ban because of downvotes?

12:26 PM
@SmokeDetector tpu-

user202362
I did not have that many questions with downvotes

any deleted posts?

Meta is supposed to allow more downvotes than other sites, before you get a ban.

user202362
@InfiniteRecursion not that I can remember, at least not in the past 2 years

user202362
the whole thing smells fishy

12:29 PM
They don't say how it works but weighting more recent would make sense and the last three are -20, -22, -19 with 2 / 3 closed - but I thought it might have been a bit higher for meta.

user202362
I wouldn't call it fishy if it's only about meta Q ban

user202362
There were other things ...

Yes, but maybe chat suspensions count as well? The last question was about the two chat suspensions that she's had.

user202362
not chat suspensions

user202362
chat suspensions were not fishy at all

12:32 PM
No, but maybe they somehow contribute to a question ban?
It's ironic that the last question was suggesting that the chat suspension didn't punish hard enough....

user202362
yeah right ...

user202362
also they were not meta chats

user202362
If I go jogging in the dark & accidentally stepped on a cat's tail, would my neighbours' dog start to bark at me everytime it sees me?

I don't think that analogy applies.

user202362
Look there were guys whom are chat banned on daily basis, my record wasn't so bad in comparison ...

12:42 PM
2 suspensions, if I understood it right, both for 30 minutes?

user202362
in one year, yes

user202362
2 suspensions in 1 year wasn't that much

So let's see.... last 3 questions in the -10/-20 range, 2 of them closed. No deleted questions. 2 chat bans in the space of a year.

user202362
are we talking about manual ban or autoban?

I don't know, but the record doesn't seem that bad. So I'm inclined to think this was a manual ban.
Also, correction: 2 chat _suspensions_in the space of a year.

user202362

Argh
I need another meta question
Lol JonEricson's clone?

@chmod666telkitty Who knows? Some people are weird.
.....and some people are just jerks.
....and then some people find things offensive, that others find perfectly OK.

12:56 PM
...
Must I really write a program for all my image editing stuff?
All I want is to tile an image with an empty border around
Considers Java ImageIO or HTML

Trusty ol' Java Swing had a thing for borders, I think it was BorderLayout .... but I'm not sure that is what you're looking for.
Either way the border did not become part of the image.

user202362
@S.L.Barth Unless it's cached (I failed to see how it could change from 57 to 58 sec, doesn't chat kick only last 30 secs anyways)? I failed to see how I could get the same screen on the phone 4-5 times (at least) in a row

Caching and hiccups, that might explain things...

BorderLayout is to align components along the window borders

@UNICYCLEZRDEBESTINDEHERE Ah yes... you're right. I think the class I used, back in the day, was Border, and its subclasses .

1:05 PM
new EmptyBorder(10, 10, 10, 10);

user202362
@S.L.Barth I used to ignore all the signs ... when map malfunctioned, when screen stopped responding. Then one day, I found out my phone was hacked. Sometimes signs were there because something was not right ...

user202362
when there were many signs, maybe it's time to start doubting ...

It happens, @chmod666telkitty. Must've been quite a pain though.

        BufferedImage tile = ImageIO.read(ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("img/tiles.png"));
        BufferedImage bufferedTile = new BufferedImage(tile.getWidth() + 20, tile.getHeight() + 20, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
        BufferedImage output = new BufferedImage(bufferedTile.getWidth() * 100, bufferedTile.getHeight() * 100, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
        Graphics2D outputGraphics = output.createGraphics();
