If people upvote your stuff without reading it, does that mean it wasn't worth reading, or you are so trustworthy, it is already law?

What do you guys think of this post from Matt S., the guy from pets.se, who i know because of his recent activity on GL?

Q: If rep farming with edits is a problem, why offer the reputation for edits in the first place?

I see quite often, especially when the problems with the review queue are discussed, that there is a proposed problem with people rep farming with edits. The idea is that these people are making poor edits just for the sake of the points you get when those edits are accepted. If rep farming is a...

He has some good points.

I think he's wrong that the people who care about the edit quality don't care about rep, at least most of the time, but IMO, rep for edits does more good than bad.

I myself sometimes makes an edit and quietly thinks "I totally deserve two rep for that", but at last didn't because I'm already above 2k.

And I appreciate the little magical internet points when editing on a non-SO site. I guess it does make me want to edit more. But on SO the editors are a problem. Maybe just disable it on SO?

@bjb568 There should be a system that finds out whether the edit rep is causing more harm than good, so that it can be disabled. 'for reasons of moderation, edits no longer provide users under 2000 rep with 2 reputation points.'
