Yay, my spam bot is finally running. Now I just need to sharpen its detection logic...

@AndrewT. Don't you have multithreading issues while accessing critical sections in Android? I have been reading a bit of it as a hobby lately, I have seen some threads. And the Collections package looks similar too...

@Sam welcome to the club ;-)

@Sam Is it open-sourced?

Sam
@JanDvorak Thx :D

@Sam Yay! Spammers stay away, now Sam's bot is here.

@SilentKiller you're not counting those that were gone before I woke up
@Unihedron humans lose out on persistence, though

@Unihedron Not yet, but I might push it to github later. You can check its output in the sandbox if you want (remember, it's still a work in progress).

@Sam chat.meta.SE sandbox or chat.SO sandbox?

@JanDvorak make your grammar bot :D

Sam
@Unihedron chat.meta.SE
Having said that, it just died :(

@InfiniteRecursion yes, but Android handles that quite differently. You may want to read more on Android Dev's‌. And I seldom to do multithreading in my project, so... that's why :(

12:11 PM
@JanDvorak normally there are around 10 but today.. 5 to 6 only.

@SilentKiller were you posting them?

@Sam gg no re.

@JanDvorak i am saying its from you only.

@AndrewT. Thanks, I will read it :)

I woke up late today. Couldn't sleep - it was raining all night, non-stop.
still cloudy at 3 pm

12:13 PM
@JanDvorak Insomnia?

@Unihedron no, too much rain

same here.

I like the rain.

Sam
@Unihedron Btw, all the code is in C#, so you may not find it particularly interesting ;)

@Sam Aww. Guess I have to learn C# then.

12:14 PM
@Unihedron too much morbid enthusiasm watching the weather suck, perhaps?

@AndrewT. have you faced that API Level 4.1 having broadcast issue.

@Sam You can post the good parts as selfies on SO and gain rep

@JanDvorak I used to go outside and run under the rain, but now the rain here is acidic.

@SilentKiller not at the moment, mind telling me the detail?

Sam
@InfiniteRecursion Hmm, it'll be hard to think up a good question to go with it though.

12:16 PM
@Unihedron there's a nice song by Joe Satriani with that title

@Unihedron That's sad @Uni. I love the rain too. Everything looks beautiful amongst the glistening raindrops.

@Sam what made you suspicious about math.stackexchange.com/questions/646228/…?

@Unihedron roaming in rain is good.. :/

@Sam feel free to post a question to CR if it really works ;)

@Inf @Sil Yeah. :(

12:17 PM
@JanDvorak It contains the word "natural", which is one word I blacklisted as spam.

@Vogel612 Worth noting that in the original comics (which were, admittedly, black and white) all of the masks were supposed to be the same color. Red, I believe. Edit: After I wrote this, I scrolled down, and apparently, the information I just conveyed is in your answer! /fellow nerd — lunchmeat317 yesterday

@Vogel612 I see a plan :P

@AndrewT. tried Boot Broadcast to start service but it never get that broadcast. while searching found that ICS having some issue with broadcast. while same thing was working on GingerBread and even on JB.

@Sam I'm tempted to post a python Hello World review.

12:24 PM
@SilentKiller that's quite strange, I haven't faced that yet. Now I'm curious since it may break my app too.

I have no idea

Sam
@JanDvorak I'm still working on its accuracy...

@SilentKiller KoTH for everyone maybe?

@Unihedron Try to award the bounty after 7 days instead of 3. That way the question will stand out a little longer which might give the answers a higher chance of getting upvotes (or downvotes)

@Stijn lol
@InfiniteRecursion ;p

Such a surprise that my gif got three stars....

@Unihedron I asked Pham if he wants the bounty, he said yes. I was disappointed that no one was paying attention to the bounty. Look at Stijn, his post got noticed in 3 minutes!

I think it was because it was weekends.
That's kind of why bounties lasts 7 days, so every bounty (if lasted fully) has near effect - as many work days and as many weekends.

1:54 PM
Should I give another bounty on Sam's post to get it some "attention"?

@Unihedron I need your regex skills. I'm trying to improve the SmokeDetector regex to make sure that it matches phone numbers if the digits are separated by an underscore. Note that the length of the chars to match is still 10, but this is only numbers. So I need a way to make sure that the length {10} (or similar) does not count the underscores. Do you know a way for that?

3:06 PM
@ProgramFOX Thank god you didn't post a gimme-teh-codez question on the main site. Anytime. Test cases?

How about 10 numbers with an identical symbol somewhere in between them?

@ProgramFOX lols babaji

@Unihedron Hmm... that could work. If that symbol is not identical anyway, so it can match both one and two underscores in the same string.

Tolerance = 1-2 underscore or 1-2 random symbols?

3:10 PM
Infinite amount of underscores.
But, erm, my regex works now, while I'm sure it didn't work 5 minutes ago.

@Unihedron Apparantly that also works ^

I'm wondering if the first alternation is abundant

@Unihedron What part do you mean exactly?

\+(\d_*){10}

3:14 PM
@Unihedron No, that matches an exact number of 10 chars. The second part is intended for two-part phone numbers (separated by a dash or a space).

@ProgramFOX Still doesn't match 1_2_3_4_5_6_7_8_9_0
matches only if + is there

@Unihedron Oh, I see. Thanks a lot for your regex! Feel free to pull request it ;)

it matches 12_3_4... but I doubt the spammers would keep the first two binded

(also thanks for learning me about the non-capturing group)

we all glad we learned you about it

3:17 PM
Yeah, welcome! :)

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev 2cf9309 (@Undo)

How we gonna test the update?

@Unihedron doesn't match if + and _ are mixed :(

@Unihedron Well, the regex thing you posted seems to say it works

actually, doesn't work if it has a +

3:30 PM
@Braiam Go fork the repo and make a PR then. SmokeDetector loves help ;)

@Undo ugh *effort*

@Braiam The regex only tolerates underscores at the moment.
If it sounds like a good idea, I could make it match if there are 10 digits in the title..

Sam
Oh that reminds me, I need add detection for phone numbers...

@Unihedron Mmmm... Give me a regex that does the trick and we can run it against the data dump, see how much legit stuff it catches.

3:32 PM
@Braiam When + is in a character class, no need to escape it :)

@Unihedron playing safe
@Unihedron mm... it can generate falsepositives... match "why 12345 match 67890"

@Braiam "How do I match reverse strings like 12345 with 54321?"

@Unihedron that's another

@Braiam "why is MS office so expensive? it took me $5000.00 even with a 20% discount!! its a r1p0ff "

We can deal with some false positives, it's a question of how often we get them.

3:36 PM
"my code no workz help me pls!!!!111!1!1!!!11111!!!1!!"

... that's not a false positive :P

Sam
Should "homework" be blacklisted?

@Unihedron I'd like to run them against the data explorer, but it seems I can't.

@Undo sede doesn't support regexes

... that's what I just said
Let's leave out the 10-number thing for now, see how the underscore-detecting thing does.

Sounds good.

It'll be nice when we get that spam dump. Then we might be able to do some bayesian stuff.

@Unihedron Hey Uni, in agreement with you that identifying patterns with potential for catastrophic backtracking is challenging—some "bad ones" might be adequate if you have full control of the subject string. This page identifies four types of symptoms. Definitely an interesting topic.

Q: Define global variable in a JavaScript function

hamzeIs it possible to define a global variable in a JavaScript function? I want use the trailimage variable (declared in the makeObj function) in other functions. <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head id="Head1" runat="server"> <title></title> <script type="text/java...

Java and JS are entirely different. It doesn't confuse anyone.

3:52 PM
<script>
(function() { // Begin scoping function
    var yourGlobalVariable; // Global to your code, invisible outside the scoping function
    function foo() {
        // ...
    }
})();         // End scoping function
</script>
