Thanks for the answer and the -1 votes, it's clear. That's means the question is not so bad... — mpromonet 5 hours ago
Anyone care to decrypt that?

@hichris123 Now I'm curious...
@AstroCB Might be reverse psychology or something.

That was the title.

I know. I meant the post body.

@KenWhite I agree with you but it is so important for all software developer that I think we need to discuss about it in a programming forum. I thin it would effect anybody who is writing software. — mans Jul 3 at 13:12
no

@AstroCB I think he concluded that since somebody answered his question in a comment, it therefore wasn't a bad question - and he was being snarky about the -1. Which is precisely why we shouldn't answer bad questions.
@animuson I don't understand why that was closed. It seems both on-topic and completely reasonable to me.

@animuson So, about half of it is useless meta info, and the rest has to do with food...

1:10 AM
@Jamal Pretty much.

Well, programmers do have to eat food, so I agree that it's not entirely off-topic.

@Jamal It's totally 'tools commonly used by programmers'!

@Jamal Actually, I have an IV station next to my desk.

Go flag stuff on Ask Patents. Like now. :P

It's a constant stream of sodium, potassium, water, and caffeine. And bacon grease in the morning.

1:14 AM
@animuson Should I be eager to see the OP bring up this deletion on Meta?

Considering it's almost a year old and had no votes, I doubt he'll even notice it got deleted.
However, I have been cleaning out our suspicious votes list a bit.

True

Uh
If I could actually identify that number, wouldn't that prove I'm something definitely not human?
> The mods needs to leave open patent questions. It is ridiculous that you say it has nothing to do with the software industry. Closing patent questions on the place where programmers meet is like shoving rotten food under the carpet.

wut

Lol
Last seen two days ago so not a response to this one. I bet he'll notice, though.

1:21 AM
Wait, so everything about the software industry belongs on SO?

He probably changed it back when he actually asked that question, considering the question itself complained about them being closed.

@Braiam Not much; just contemplating what's more amusing: Ending every chat line with @hichris123, or with @animuson
Maybe @hichris123 can be our question mark and @animuson can be an exclamation point @hichris123

Oh, and now he's mentioned Cupcake in the post. It really needs a lock or a deletion now.
@JasonC: Just rollback that post to Cupcake's latest revision.

on that question; IMO it "does not attempt to seek input and discussion", as evidenced by continuously arguing and not paying attention to Bill's good answer.
@Jamal Done; good call.
And he edited again with some comment about "control freaks".
I'm not even going to give him the dignity of another rollback.

@Undo Quantitatively speaking, I'd imagine it is "way better".

@Undo $80 probably.
I don't get what the 14¢ is for...

@bjb568 Base rate for "bad support" is 14 cents.

Clearly those options should go Great > Ultra > Master...

@JasonC What if I buy 100 Bad Supports? Does that get to about half of a good support?

@Undo No that gets you about 63% of the way from good to great.
Which I guess is "groot".

So I would get... let's see... hybrid good-great... goat support?

user202362
Papaver somniferum, the Opium poppy, is the species of plant from which opium and poppy seeds are derived. Opium is the source of many narcotics, including morphine (and its derivative heroin), thebaine, codeine, papaverine, and noscapine. The Latin botanical name means the "sleep-bringing poppy", referring to the sedative properties of some of these opiates. The opium poppy is the only species of Papaveraceae that is an agricultural crop grown on a large scale. Other species, Papaver rhoeas and Papaver argemone, are important agricultural weeds, and may be mistaken for the crop. It is also valuable...

@JasonC no, more serve as a resource for them

basically, a place to collect information on patents
so that it can be found when needed
Joel Spolsky on September 20, 2012

We’ve all heard the stories of seemingly trivial patents being used to mug technology companies. There was the patent on the “Interactive Web” which a troll named Eolas used to extract $521 million from Microsoft–until a jury in East Texas threw out the patents. There are the four patents Lodsys is using to send threatening letters to software developers everywhere–trivial patents that Google says never should have been granted, in fact, Google and Oracle have submitted mountains of prior art to show that the patents should be invalid. …

@Shog9 I would love to see it meet those goals although I wonder if you guys underestimated the challenge a little. Really interested to see if there's a way to clean it up. Good to see it's getting attention on meta now and from people in chat.

every little bit helps

The problem goes way beyond the app developers example. I used to work at a medical robotics R&D company for a long time, some of the patent issues we ran into there were truly the stuff of nightmares.

think of it as our... victory garden

5:24 AM
You get companies like GE with a team of 200 lawyers just making shit up and if even one thing sticks, it pays off. I once saw a GE software patent for something like "means and method for asking a user for confirmation of an action" that basically described an OK/Cancel dialog with a flowchart.

yeah, I'm just familiar enough with the legal issues involved in medical devices to know better than to want to work with medical devices
patents being maybe the tip of the iceberg there

Well, a major problem there is hot new fields = nobody in the patent office has enough expertise to have discretion.
You saw a similar thing with e.g. 3D graphics in the 90's.

yeah
hell, I remember as a kid reading some biography of Henry Ford in which it detailed the pain he went through with the patent office

I gave up being upset about it years ago, it's too big a force to fight. That's why I'd love to see patents.se succeed in the way its laid out in that blog.
@Shog9 Oh yeah; I mean, that's crazy because of how that pattern continues. His whole thing with Selden parallels so many problems that still exist, and it's sad to think that the system has had issues like that for so long.
People often say things like "the patent system is outdated" without realizing that a lot of the problems we complain about aren't that new, there's just flaws from the start.

@iStimple as @Jan said, it was deleted by a mod who clicked "delete" instead of flagging as spam. So no -100 for the user.

@ThiefMaster you're too kind, even if it was a mistake, I think the user should have paid for it.

@ShadowWizard bummed that we weren't able to confirm -100 works still, but happy that user didn't get bad consequences since it looked to be a one time fluke

@iStimple not sure about it, without punishment, there's good chance he'll just do it again at some point.

@ShadowWizard then those -100 will be fully justified the second time around

@Bart is this on-topic for unity3d? I did cast a cv as unclear....

Nah @rene. If it is programming related, it's still horribly unclear.

Butcherbirds are magpie-like birds in the genus Cracticus. They are native to Australasia. The Australian magpie has recently been placed in the same genus, and this new taxonomy has been supported by recent phylogenetic analyses. Together with three species of currawong and two species of peltops, butcherbirds and the Australian magpie form the subfamily Cracticinae in the family Cracticidae. Butcherbirds are large songbirds, being between 30 and 40 centimetres (12 and 16 in) in length. Their colour ranges from black-and-white to mostly black with added grey plumage, depending on the species....
