@AnnaLear Uh... any plans to unbork my account? I feel if I don't poke people with sharp rods (not sticks, don't make HR investigate) enough nothing will happen.

You can poke them with sticks, just not pointy sticks.

They should preferably be blunt.

Alternatively, I offer a being-thrown-at-people service. Only $0.01 per second spent being in the air!

I can make them sharp, but not pointy, right?
1D thing is pointy. 2D is sharp.
So a sharp rod is a sword with a blunt end.

Make sure if you go with that option it's not a Forget-Me-Knob.
Those doorknobs can be so unpredictable.

@bjb568 It's not a manual step... So, no? Beyond "keep doing what you're doing" (I've seen you post more answers on various stuff), there isn't really a thing on anyone's list to push a button to unblock you or anything. It's all automatic.

Q: A user has multiplied!

Benjamin GruenbaumI'm in chat (about a question) and I'm talking to a user. For some reason the chat insists that there are in fact two users: Here are the two users one and two they have two different chat userids. The first chat account link 404s and the second links to the correct user page on Stack Overflo...

@AnnaLear ^
The link to a main site user from chat is messed up for him on chat.SO and chat.SE.

4:13 AM
Ah, chat.

@bjb568 Do something like a true cracker

CV signatures are unlinked. I'm "multiplying" in chat. All places where a user id is used, the id is invalid. I cannot create an account that links to the old SE sites which now belong to the lower userid. And my triple-8 user id doesn't work. I liked my 888.

Also a link to his profile sometimes doesn't appear on closed questions that he VTC.

@bjb568 Merge another account and maybe everything will get fixed

How?
I don't know what I even did to get it to merge.

4:15 AM
@bjb568 What credentials do you normally sign in with? (I don't need the email address, just the type - Google, FB, etc.)

Google. bjb5682@gmail.com 2888561
I got merged into bjb568@gmail.com 2371861

You had an older account and that took precedence in the merge. Both had the same gmail credential.

That wasn't my account, it was my friend's...

Well, don't let your friend have an account with your Gmail login credentials...

So you get a password hash? Witch!
How did the merge happen, anyway? Does the script check somehow if your passwords are the same? Isn't that horrible if your password is really common?

4:20 AM
We have no access to your Gmail password.

So what do you mean by the "same credentials"?

Login credentials. When you go to log in with, say, Google, and pick a Google account to log in with.

Yes. There are two options on the list, one of them is bjb5682@gmail.com, one of them is bjb568@gmail.com. They're different accounts...

I see your point. I am going to see about unmerging them, it might take a bit.

bjb568@gmail.com is kind of abandoned and crappy. So you don't need to keep it.
Wheeee! Things are changing!
I can see which things are cached. Tags are cached. Badges are.

4:27 AM
Unmerging is ... tricky. If something is weird after a few days still, let me know.

Ok. You should probably unbork the login system in the first place, for future complainers.

Our login system is terrifying.

Ok, now for the recent flags, votes, and this answer.
That answer took 30 seconds to write, got a bajillion votes (up and down), went all meta effect and got SO to flame about regex, efficiency, code quality, and me saying everything is abuse.
Oh, also, give me a diamond.
I just look out of place here.

I'd wave at you, @bjb568, in that room, but all the blue diamonds are blinding me.

Herm, my reopen votes are all gone.
^ UI is weird too, I have cast votes, and the help page is about up/down votes.

4:38 AM
That may or may not also be caching. Either way, ran into a few problems with the unmerge. Gonna have to dig deeper tomorrow.

Gah, always problems.
Also, "3890059" doesn't have 3 8s in it :O
You'd better give my 8s back. With a diamond.

yeah, that's not gonna happen

@AnnaLear Do you have access to our HASHED passcodes?

@TheWobbuffet No, that's not how OpenID/OAuth works.

Ok, good.

4:42 AM
We do if you're using Stack Exchange OpenID by virtue of the fact that we host/run it, but we can't and don't have access to any other types.

That's also good.
Puts emergency box of tinfoil hats back down

@AnnaLear I used to have my own login system for my website, I've recreated it and i don't know if i should use wordpress or oauth

@chmod711telkitty $10 says your mobile provider is cycling you through multiple IPs very fast.

user202362
I have to admit that I was on the train, but why would my phone provider cycling me through multiple IPs?

Beats me. Different cell towers? Mind you, I'm guessing here. But that's generally what we do when IPs change a lot within, say, a minute. Happens a bunch with some ISPs as well. It really only matters during authentication.

but still, the answerer is not positive on the validity of answer, and asking OP to confirm. I think this should better suit as comment. That was the main reason, I asked whether it was an answer or not.

@DroidDev meh, I would have personally left it as a comment first, true. But in the end it's not far off from an answer. I don't really mind it. And I wouldn't really flag it for that.

Q: Search results are old/out of date

DavidGI was trying to do a search for new questions using the advanced search tags such as is:question and intags:mine. This normally works well, but today it is not showing any questions newer than 2nd June. For example, try this link which should show all questions in my tags, ordered by newest first...

Wait, what the hell? So there's a user adding the [bootstrap] tag too? I was just watching someone else remove that tag from questions but I never saw this user in the revision history for any of those questions. In fact, now that I'm seeing this, I'm surprised they managed to avoid crossing paths. — BoltClock ♦ 3 hours ago

@Oded out of interest, how do you deal with the massive amount of data when there's corruption? Our full reindex only takes half an hour but I imagine for SE it'd take a whole lot longer.

That's a question for Nick / SRE team - but we run on always on availability groups, with a read-only replica AG in the other data center, so if needed, we can fall back to that, flip it to write and after fixing problems turn replication back on

too bad Nick doesn't hang around here too often, or at least not when I'm awake

@Doorknob one that includes logic

@JanDvorak 1 'Hello, World!' '' if

10:55 AM
not readable, and it doesnt' even include logic
(sorry, but if(true) doesn't count)

It's readable to GolfScript programmers. I don't find Perl readable at all, but that doesn't mean it's not. I just don't know Perl.
(Also, definition of "logic" very tongue-in-cheek of course. Something like ~.{+}*\,/ is still readable, if you know GolfScript. Especially if you get multiple lines so you can separate stuff with actual whitespace.)

I don't really mind cryptic function names, but I find it hard to keep track of the stack

Meh, that applies to any stack-based language.

indeed, but golfscript doesn't give you any type hints

what gives?

2:40 PM
@Stijn it takes time for close vote to push a question to the review queue
there's a job/process doing it, think it's running every 15 minutes or so

user163250
Ooh ooh ooh, I thought of another great example question for the Academy!: area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/72987/stack-overflow-academy/…

@ShadowWizard Sounds as caching?

@rene nope, no caching this time. just a job that runs on a schedule rather than insta-add to the queues.
Same goes with low quality posts: they are not added right when posted, but rather in batches when the job is running
Only exception as far as I can tell is suggested edits, where the queue is "live"

2:56 PM
Are you sure it is 15 minutes for any question with a close vote/flag?

@rene not sure about the exact timing but pretty sure it's scheduled, yes
easy enough to test, be the first to vote to close a question, remember when you voted, and ask someone with 3k to monitor the close votes queue and check when the question appears in there (you won't see it yourself)

Is it just me, or is there a bad trend going on on MSO where valid questions get downvoted? I'm seeing more and more legitimate support questions that get downvoted, and just now this discussion. Surely that wasn't downvoted because someone thought "I disagree"?

@Stijn lots of people thought the same about the original Meta (now MSE) and probably still do. Since as child meta much more users are now seeing MSO and active in there, it only gets worse.
Anyway, not just you and nothing we can do except try and explain the "victims" that's how thing work.

Hmm, I think I'll try to collect examples and perhaps in a few weeks get a discussion going on MSE then, if we should try to educate people about voting on Meta sites.

@Stijn I think it's specific to MSO, smaller sites don't "suffer" from this. So the discussion would belong to MSO, where it would more than likely get hammered to death with downvotes too ;)

3:08 PM
fair enough
downvotes don't scare me :)

@Stijn but enough of them and the question disappears from the homepage, chance to get a real discussion in such case is very low. :(
Of course you can and should try, just giving my own prophecy

@ShadowWizard that's exactly why I think it's a problem, hurting the feelings of the OP is a secondary issue

@Stijn true. Maybe try starting a new "Meta Summer of Love" :D

3:25 PM
@Stijn In that discussion, the downvote was "you didn't even research one bit". But I agree, some legitimate support & discussions are downvoted when they shouldn't.

@hichris123 then it should be easy to find a duplicate I guess? :) Or at least a relevant previous discussion.

@Stijn Some are on mSE, so can't dupe them.
