user163250
@bjb568 gracias

@Cupcake This one seems more Unclear. I VLQ'd one answer and NAA'd the other.

user163250
@bjb568 mmm, hard to fault newbies for answering crap questions...they don't know any better yet.

Whoever's fault it is, DELETEDELETEDELETE!

user163250
@bjb568 deleting the question is sufficient.

user163250
You don't want high-rep users wasting delete votes on answers when the whole question itself can be deleted.

user163250
You only get 15 delete votes per day when you hit 20k.

user163250
I end burning through most of mine by deleting answers in the VLQ queue.

user163250
I only have 2 left today, I'm saving them for really really bad posts.

1:04 AM
@Cupcake Nobody ever deletes questions. Deleting answers might get Community to do it sometime in the next 10 years if there aren't more crap answers posted.
@Cupcake Feature-request a raise.

user163250
@bjb568 what makes you say that no one deletes questions? Users do it all the time.

user163250
@bjb568 I don't know, I have a feeling that it will get shot down :P

@Cupcake When I VLQ questions, I want them deleted. They... aren't.

user163250
@bjb568 there's actually a discussion about that sitting around on MSO or MSE.

user163250
1:13 AM
VLQ flagging questions is problematic.

@Cupcake done
@Cupcake You need a raise.

user163250
But trust me, high-rep users are deleting questions all the time.

There's way too much crap for too few users to delete.

user163250
@bjb568 gracias

user163250
1:14 AM
That's why there's a roomba system to help out.

And you need to close and wait 2 (?) days to delete.
@Cupcake Too many crap answers preventing that from properly working.

user163250
When you're 20k, you can vote to delete immediately after a close if the question is at -3 or lower.

user163250
That's why it's important to downvote bad questions.

Q: Around how many questions get deleted in Stack Exchange and by who?

BraiamSomeone argued with me that people in the SE network don't try to delete stuff actively (voting to delete) and leave that work to the Community user. I'm not convinced. So... I would like some stats about how much stuff gets deleted by 10kers network wide by sites. Extra points if: Include the...

user163250
To help 20k+ users to insta-delete the worst of the worst.

1:16 AM
So OP to post, 3 people to downvote, 5 people to closevote, 1 person to bring it to attention of the del voters, 3 people to delvote.
Seems inefficient.

@bjb568 actually there's enough overlapping

Still, too many!

you need a minimum of 5 users to delete a question
3 that downvote can also vtc, and vtd, the other 2 are the wildcards
if there's one with gold badge in the tag then the number is trimmed to 3

I think there shouldn't have to be 5 people to close a question. I think the rep threshold is too high for delete voting. I think there should be a recommend deletion flag.
@Braiam Crap usually is too bad to be able to be dup-closed.

user163250
I think the rep threshold for delete voting is plenty high.

1:19 AM
10k?

user163250
That's plenty high.

5k people can't do anything.

user163250
I've seen 20k+ users delete stuff too quickly.

There is no such thing as deleting things too quickly! :P

user163250
Great Power must come with Great Responsibility.

While I'm complaining, I think 2k is too low for edit review, but 1.5k is enough to instant-apply edits.

There should at least be a recommend deletion button for questions in the queue.

user163250
Which queue?

VLQ

user163250

user163250
@bjb568 I don't normally see questions show up in there.

user163250
It's usually answers.

I see plenty...

user163250
Also, remember, you want to delete responsibly.

user163250
You want to give some users a few days to fix-up their questions before you pull the trigger.

1:25 AM
Meeeeh.

user163250
unclear. Or too broad. Take your pick stackoverflow.com/questions/24792832/…

I was always confused about closing. It's a big deal and makes a banner pop up and takes 5 people and stuff. But all it does is prevent answers. It still wastes peoples time and is very visible (you can usually get to them right before they're closed from, of course, the home page). The answers that sneak in before closing are horrible quality, but they are treated like gold and keep the question from being auto-deleted (too long) later.

I find it strange that closing does't do anything to current answers or much about visibility.

user163250
I'm sure it's been discussed to death on MSO and MSE.

1:30 AM
Oh yeah, I made my own complaint of it on MSO (now MSE) which got received... totally positive.

user163250
The review audits are getting better.

Yeah.

user163250
I passed 3 of them in the past 20-30 minutes, but I never knew they were audits.

user163250
It's always a big surprise to click on the link to a question and find that's it's already been closed.

Yeah.
More complaining: Closing a question should punish answerers, not just the asker. Downvoting answers to a closed question should be free and cost the answerer 5 rep, not 2. Answerers should be also warned answering a question with CVs.

user163250
1:34 AM
Ok, so a few things about that.

user163250
1. People who can see close votes are already aware that people are voting to close.

user163250
Unless you want to make that information visible to all users.

It should be more visible. Like an actual button click in a scary warning, not just grey text.
I dunno about making it visible to everyone.

user163250
2. Some experts just want to help people.

Which is destructive to the site sometimes.

user163250
1:36 AM
You don't want to chase them away by pummeling them with downvotes just because they're super altruistic.

user163250
I'll give you an example.

user163250

user163250
He's currently ranked #6 for total rep on SO.

user163250
He's most active in the Git tag.

user163250
He has 26k+ points in it.

user163250
1:38 AM
He answers everyone's questions.

Yeah.

user163250
You don't want to put off an expert like that from participating on the site.

Looking thru the answers, almost none of them are to closed questions tho.

user163250
VonC's top answers?

Lowest answers.

user163250
1:40 AM
I'm sure there are closed questions in there.

user163250
Also, Git doesn't get a lot of traffic, relatively speaking.

It's at most rare.

user163250
There aren't as many people heavily moderating it like in more popular tags.

user163250
I see a lot of duplicate questions pop up All. The. Time. in there.

Somebody with 411k rep can't care too much about rep, -5 for downvote on a closed question vs -2 shouldn't make much of a difference to him.

user163250
1:42 AM
It's not just the rep loss.

user163250
It's the fact that you're expressing disapproval of the fact that he was trying to help someone.

user163250
That can be a big turn-off to people.

Well, making people be on the look-out for duplicates might be net positive.
Maybe make closed not count dups. Dups are the least bad of closed questions.

user163250
Wow, I'm getting hit with a lot of audits.

user163250
1:49 AM
I just had like 2 or 3 within the past 5-7 minutes.

Wow.

user163250
I passed all of them, but still...

Hm... another complaint is that making crap answers is rewarded with upvotes, but moderating them isn't. In fact it costs rep to downvote answers and commenting can lead to retaliation.

user163250
1:52 AM
@bjb568 how many close votes do you have left?

38

user163250
Ah.

2:15 AM
@Cupcake And you'll often see a few users regularly answer all the duplicates rather than cast a duplicate close vote ever

user202362
well, you still get reps on upvoted answers to duplicate questions so ...

So you get the same answer and same procedure posted on five different questions
And then you get users saying they're not duplicates because they're using a differently named variable or branch name

@chmod711telkitty I think that should be removed.

apache configuration is off topic, right?

A: Are questions about webserver config files and rewrite rules on-topic?

jmort253It's always felt like a grey area in regards to Web server configuration files. I've had this question for a long time. System administrators do routinely setup and manage Web servers, and they're oftentimes quite skilled in managing their configuration, which is where this line of thinking comes...

user163250
It's not entirely a clear-cut case that server configuration is off-topic for SO.

user163250
Wow, @Doorknob was like, "Nope! I'm outta here!".

2:46 AM
gtg, cya folks.

@Braiam Ah! Misuse of contractions! This makes my head explode since I process things as sound. "It is a nice day" v "It is." If the first word has emphasis, contraction. Else, no contraction.

@Cupcake it would be better if you said and bludgeon you to death with it ... that way it's more humurous

Q: What happened to 'Your Common Sense'?

ManuWhat happened to the user Your Common Sense? He was/is a high-rep user, what could he have done to deserve the maximum (356 days) suspension time? I'm curious because to get such a high reputation (which was surely >30k if I remember correctly) you have to behave yourself.

user163250
I guess I should flag a mod to delete it.

user163250
So that it doesn't gain attention in the community bulletin.

@Cupcake it will get to the bulletin only if it will garner enough votes, which I doubt. Let it be, nothing wrong in asking and your answer is correct.
If deleted, people will just keep asking.

@TimPost Only to know. Careers site - invitation page. It's written that you get some invite when you update your profile so that completeness > 100 - yet I am at 121 and no invite is available. Does the invite give-out get processed on a scheduled timer job or something?

@SPArchaeologist I think so. If you don't get it in a reasonable amount of time (e.g. at some point today) email careers@stackoverflow.com and ask them for some invites.
my dev super powers don't extend to careers, so I can't give them to you now, or I would.

Q: What do you do when you find an underage user using the site?

CupcakeToday I came across a user profile that said that the user was just 11 years old. The age field on the profile said 13 years, but of course that's probably because the minimum required age for participation on any Stack Exchange site is 13. How do I report this underage user, and what happens to...

You were able to legally use the site at 11, so maybe share how you did it?

@ShadowWizard Um, I mentioned that at the beginning of this post. It was basically kind of "I didn't post any personal information, used an account that my parents created for me, and never told anyone, so nothing bad really happened."

user202362
@TimPost omg you almost have the best name on SE ... just missing that extra 'e' ... Time Post ... like ... Time your Post ... if that makes any sense @_@

@Doorknob so maybe add it in MSO as well? :)

@ShadowWizard Do we really need to tell that? If you can't figure it out, I guess you shouldn't use the site to begin with.
And having your parents create an account for you would still be in violation of the ToS I think

@Bart Admit you're afraid being outclassed by an eleven year old

Nah @rene, that's a fact I've come to terms with.
