got 27k rows and 1 error in execution

Yeah, I got an error in execution too, but that's happened to queries that previously didn't have any issues, so I think it may just be the most recent build.
(note that the error contents have absolutely no relevance to the query being run, and have to do with declaring your userId automagically)

your question is kind of convoluted my friend. — uofc 11 mins ago
that is not constructive, is it?
then when I note it, he replies like this
@Laszlo Papp, please be more productive, and stick to answering questions instead of wasting people's time with useless comments. — uofc 2 mins ago

@LaszloPapp ... wow. That's.. not helpful to the OP. +1 to you, -1 to him.

@LaszloPapp I flagged the first uofc comment as not constructive and the second as rude/offensive.

Did someone cancel stars on the U+202E? :(

@Doorknob I already have the Reversal badge for that post. Someone just downvoted me after I hit the 20 mark. ;P

2:09 AM
@animuson Oh, ok :P

Somebody please reject this and put it out of its misery.
Oh weird I just noticed something. If a user suggests an edit, then changes their edit in the grace period, it changes the edit that was already reviewed (it's still questionable but the original version only removed one of the commas).

Still turd-polishing.

Did everyone buy me presents? A ball of yarn perhaps?

@animuson Happy birthday! Here's a polished turd!

I have enough of those already.
Grrrr I hate website that send me pointless birthday emails.
Filling my inbox with junk.

And here, I got you a card:
Oh, yeah, I get them from like, my insurance company, car dealerships, etc. It's weird.

2:47 AM
Happy birthday, animuson!
I'm not giving you a polished turd.
That would be gross.

@Pëkka Better than an unpolished one if you ask me.

He only deals with authentic merchandise and authentic turds are... ehm... smelly...

Stenchless turds are the future.

@animuson Not if you put a coat of polyurethane on it!

@Pëkka Well, you can't say that without launching into a full explanation.
Which is unfortunate, since I'm about to have dinner.

And after the last eight minutes, I'm not sure I trust the drinks here.

@LaszloPapp Most of these you don't necessarily need to share; they all pop up in the flag review queue anyways. I actually flagged / reviewed all of the links here before I even came into the room. :)

actually, they do not pop up until flagged VLQ
and they were not.

@LaszloPapp The answers were. They come up in the 10k queue.

no, most of them were NAA
that is not popping up in VLQ.

No, I mean, they pop up in the 10k flag review queue. It's different than the VLQ queue on /review.

5:57 AM
not everyone has 10K.
(nor does everyone check that queue every couple of minutes)
and actually I like dealing more with 10K- user since they tolerate link-only answers less.
I do not know why but crappy posts got "deemed invalid" a lot from 10K+ users.

The "invalid"s usually seem on point to me. Right now I only see 2 invalid flags and they're both fairly reasonable.

I see a lot of invalid flags I disagree with.

Anyone here know some SQL?
I have three working queries that can tell how many badges of a certain type all the users on the site have. For instance, this is the Bronze version:
SELECT UserId AS [User Link], COUNT(*) AS "Bronze"
FROM Badges
WHERE Name IN ('Altruist', 'Benefactor', 'Investor', 'Nice Question', 'Popular Question', 'Promoter', 'Scholar', 'Student', 'Tumbleweed', 'Nice Answer', 'Revival', 'Self-Learner', 'Teacher', 'Autobiographer', 'Caucus', 'Commentator', 'Mortarboard', 'Precognitive', 'Quorum', 'Talkative', 'Bronze Badge', 'Citizen Patrol', 'Cleanup', 'Critic', 'Custodian', 'Disciplined', 'Editor', 'Excavator', 'Organizer', 'Peer Pressure', 'Proofreader', 'Suffrage', 'Supporter', 'Synonymizer', 'Tag Editor', 'Vox Populi', 'Analytical', 'Announcer',
I have similar ones for Silver and Gold. How the heck do I combine them so that I get all three badge types in separate columns? Been trying out stuff from SO all afternoon, and totally baffled as to how it actually works.

6:14 AM
@jmac Can I see the queries for silver and gold?

I would really got this deleted, too, but it would need at least one more downvote IMHO.
people are scared to delete answers with positive score count.

No they're not.

well, they always complain that "it was found useful, blablabla"
yes, it was by 1-2 people in a few years, so what...
I wonder why I cannot flag that as low-quality, only NAA....
positive scored answers cannot be flagged as VLQ?
NAA is not fair for link-only...

@LaszloPapp Yes it is
> Is there even one tiny speck of information there? No. Even the title of the page being linked to would have provided something to go on, but that was entirely too much work.
>
> So let me be clear: this sort of response is not an answer. If you see this, flag it. Moderators, if you see it flagged, delete it.

@jmac SUM() + CASE are very powerful

@JasonC So that's how you do it?! Man. That is way easier than I thunked.
I went through a dozen different SO questions, all of which seemed to suggest you couldn't use a WHERE IN with a CASE statement. You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar!
@JasonC For reasons beyond my comprehension, there is no query that does that right now. Shockingly amazing stuff. You are a true SQL savant from where I sit.

6:30 AM
@jmac "a IN b" is a generic search condition; at least in T-SQL, and in MySQL too.

@JasonC I'm not SQL-literate, I just fiddle around with what I see other queries doing, and try to fill in the gaps with a search engine and SO, but all of the attempts to do this failed me miserably in this case.

I've noticed that this user has posted the exact same answer 4 times:
What should I do about it?

@Qantas94Heavy flag

@jmac Sometimes it's helpful to mess around in sqlfiddle.com. I'm pretty intermediate level SQL myself; it's fun to learn though. I think so anyways.
@Qantas94Heavy It's usually also an indication of crappy questions if somebody felt duplicate answers worked for all of them.

@JasonC: yeah, I put a comment in and the user replied that the questions were all the same

6:36 AM
Yeah; none of them have accepted answers so; I'm voting them all as dupes of stackoverflow.com/questions/20476010/… since that one has the nicest formatting.
Oh I can't

just upvote one

These are stupid and now I'm confused.

and downvote the rest
Should I just flag, or is that a waste of time for the mods?

There's nothing wrong with duplicate answers I don't think, if they're all right. But I upvoted the answer on stackoverflow.com/questions/20476010/… and marked the other questions as duplicates of that.

Welcome back @SPArchaeologist, didn't see you for a while :)

@ShadowWizard - I was looking around for info. Found this description of the bug
Yep I was away yesterday/sunday

@SPArchaeologist yuck, too much C! ;)
Yeah, no doubt it's serious though
@SPArchaeologist away in a dragon den, harvesting gold I hope? :D

@ShadowWizard Well... let's see. Yesterday I had so much "fun" playing with wix toolset and msi installers
Sunday I had my hand full at cursing my habit of burning Bonfire Ascetics.
Every time it's like "this is the last one I burn.". Two minute after another one has been added to the stack.

8:29 AM
Lol @SPArchaeologist! Addicted, eh? ;)

@ShadowWizard Like a flea to the fire. Which is appropriate, speaking of Dark Soul

@SPArchaeologist well, you missed some fun yesterday. The teenager troll from India was back for a short while, offending everyone. :/

8:48 AM
@ShadowWizard the wrong man at the wrong time. Any news of the bug fix status?

Hey @SPArchaeologist

@SPArchaeologist I know what you know, we'll just keep an eye over that question... since most of the dev team is from USA they're now still in their beds, dreaming about C#. ;)

not sure; Baba focuses on Mathematica

The avatar displayed in the chat site is the same used for the "host site", right? so on chat.meta.stackoverflow.com you use the meta SO avatar and on chat.stackoverflow.com the SO one, right?

9:44 AM
is it just me getting unexplained downvotes for upvoted answers in the amount of 8-10 within a very short while? This is annoying that no downvoter explains anything, locking themselves out to get their issue fixed. It is quite frustrating and lose/lose for probably everyone.

@SPArchaeologist Yes, I changed pone

@LaszloPapp - you are experiencing this behavior today or always? Could be a serial downvote attempt, which is especially suspect right now, with the heartbleed bug running wild.

the last 2-3 days.
I got somewhere betweeen 5-10 for mostly upvoted answers without any explanation. It is true that I criticized some poor posts, so it might be a needless revenge, but still, it demotivates me to participate.
I probably have not got 5-10 the last couple of months altogether :-)
for instance, I got a downvote right after downvoting and commenting this answer:
-1
A: What is meant by "Domain Services"?

Roy Dictushttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee707373(v=vs.91).aspx

I am not saying it is in relation with such posts, but I cannot think of any other reason. The only thing coming to my mind is people do not stand critics.
the guy had one vote today (and the week for that matter), and it is weird I got a downvote right after that "conversation". :-)

@JanDvorak Uh oh, no phone number in the title. He's getting smarter. (That, or it's someone else.)

wait, how did I catch him, then?
@michaelb958 err... no... the phone number was edited out by someone else

status-did-not-see-the-edited-box
@JanDvorak Maybe it was the keywords "love marriage solutions".
prepares for previous message to be autoflagged

@LaszloPapp .... the noble art of revenge downvotes. I would hope that a 18k user knows better.

@michaelb958 nah. It was the phone number in the first revision

10:06 AM
@JanDvorak how come you don't have false positives like the good old SmokeDetector, R.I.P? I remember it used to show many questions with error number.

@ShadowWizard I have a lot of them. I just filter them and post manually.
The human brain is pretty good at detecting spam, but I can't pay attention to the realtime tab directly.

@JanDvorak so you got a JS bot collecting possible spam and print to console?

@ShadowWizard I pop up notifications for myself
whenever something suspicious occurs
I still haven't got a good definition of "suspicious" for answers

Nice, @Jan :)

10:22 AM
Thinking aloud. About downvotes anonymity...
suppose that I write some "server" that process the users reputation tabs on a site

1
A: Is Stack Exchange safe from Heartbleed?

Nick CraverWe will be upgrading our OpenSSL usage this morning to remove the Heartbleed vulnerability. I'll update this post when the live load balancers have been compiled and deployed against 1.0.1g. We have to test just a bit and I'm just returning from a trip, so it'll be a few hours before this gets...

@SPArchaeologist I see where it's leading and yes you will be able to tell when user might have downvoted.
But he also might have lost rep due to deleted post, user removed etc.
And it's cached for few minutes so you won't have accurate time of assumed downvote

@ShadowWizard is that cached? I hope so
anyway, on sharepoint even the minute would be enough to detect the "offender" - the low traffic plays on your side

It's a slippery path, @SPArchaeologist. I wouldn't go there.
You can use it to detect anomalies or try to catch sock puppets, but trying to bypass the anonymity of voting is... well, not a good idea.

@SPArchaeologist: yeah, he is not the only one, and usually I got downvotes after (IMHO rightful) critics.
moderating is reputation-wise not beneficial. :)

@ShadowWizard I am not trying. I am pondering if that is possible.
@LaszloPapp and if it is possible how the system could be changed to mess up any interpolation

10:31 AM
@SPArchaeologist possible to some extent, you won't know for sure but have a good assumption based on that. Still, if you ask me just let it go.

@ShadowWizard rest assured that I have some other priority than writing that server myself. I was only wondering if that could be feasible from a theoric point of view.

@SPArchaeologist oh. So the answer is most likely yes.

@ShadowWizard which brings two more question: do we care? and Would displaying an imprecise rep score be worth the work?

@SPArchaeologist: I do not know a recipe for it.

11:00 AM
@AlulaErrorpone - I have done the mistake to watch some multilanguage song comparisions. Never Ever going to do that again. Never.

11:11 AM
@SPArchaeologist if it will be used to point fingers then yes, people would care and it will just start arguments we better avoid in the first place.

11:28 AM
@SPArchaeologist You'd also hit the rate-limiting wall.

@JanDvorak not if he's screen scraping the users page every minute or so

@ShadowWizard whose page?

@ShadowWizard umm.. 75k pages

@Jan oh my, right. So API can be used, then heavily cached.

11:34 AM
one request per second gives you... umm... 20 hours refresh period.

@JanDvorak using the API you can, in theory, get all users in one hit

The API is even worse. 300 requests / day * 100 users / request / 300 000 users (wild guess) = 0.1 complete refresh per day.
registered apps get 10k requests per day, but I don't think this will pass registration.
@ShadowWizard have you tried? I expect a harsh error message

@JanDvorak yep. OK, guess it's not possible after all, @SPArchaeologist!

@ShadowWizard hooold on..
The quotas are per IP or per IP/app. If you get several IP addresses...
(say, by offering a userscript)
19 screenscraping friends will give you a refresh period of 1 hour.
2k4 users for a one-minute refresh period

@JanDvorak or one botnet. We can ask Baba to lend us his botnet! ;)

11:46 AM
@ShadowWizard then you'll be fighting the devil and with the devil.

And keep in mind, the purpose of this is to find who downvoted my post (in theory :D)
If the only way to beat the devil is join the devil then why is it wrong?

@ShadowWizard ever heard of entry drugs? :-)

> All good, stackoverflow.com seems not affected!

@JanDvorak Is an entry drug the opposite of a laxative?

@Louis LMAO!

11:48 AM
:)

@Louis I mean, fighting an alcohol addiction by taking heroin is a bad idea.

@JanDvorak this makes some sense, yep

@JanDvorak yeah, I was joking.

@Qantas94Heavy evaporate the question and downvote the (self-)answer for answering crap.

But of course, totally off topic for SO
@JanDvorak why did you nuke the oneboxing?

@ShadowWizard not sure if oneboxing works without the userscript I'm using

@Jan it worked for a few seconds then you edited and now it's only a link
What did you edit?

@ShadowWizard I changed it into an explicit link

11:55 AM
@JanDvorak yeah, just noticed. But why link and not onebox?

@ShadowWizard I can't see how the onebox looks like; I've got an unofficial one

@ShadowWizard sorry, was away. I suspect that one may get away by using kimono or something alike, but as I said that was only a mind experiment.

uh oh... updating openssl was harder than I thought ._.

@3ventic ah? Do you secretly work under Nick?

@ShadowWizard then you do have the userscript

12:01 PM
Nah, I have my own servers to run

@JanDvorak nope, not a single userscript so far

huh... I thought I had...

@SPArchaeologist no need to be sorry. As for experiment, think we can conclude it's not feasible.

@ShadowWizard Yep. Anyway, my very low attention span has already switched. I am searching for an old codeproject article that I can't find again.
Anyone ever saw an article that showed usage of procedural generation to draw some insect-like polygonal figures? I saw that on codeproject some years ago, but cannot find the link.

The project I'm working on (a webshop) uses scrypt for password hashing. Manager just said "we need to change that so we can retrieve the user's password and use it to secure the ZIP files generated on the Export page". So glad I managed to convince him not to do that...

@HamZa Impressive!

thanks :)

Hmm, how are you going to prevent answers though? I assume you don't want any.

1:29 PM
@HamZa no need for Meta post, just add link to the tag wikis and close questions as duplicate of this when needed.

@Bart I don't mind if someone added a question in the reference and linked it to an answer below

That to me would be a big nono @HamZa

Q: Reference - frequently asked questions about PDO

So now you want to close a question against one of the answers ... how do you do that?
How do you clearly do that without resorting to "It's somewhere in this big list of content"

@Bart When you close a question as a dupe. The OP will browse through the reference, click on the appropriate link, he will be directed to an answer
Anyways, I get what you mean. It would be best to create a new question, answer it and link it to the reference

1:36 PM
Yep. Or identify an existing canonical question.
If the tag wiki's weren't such a horribly invisible mess, they would be the perfect locations for such lists. But ah well.

mumble..... it is nice when an user self-duplicate one of his question
even better when one of the answerer on the old question decide to duplicate YOUR answer on the new one.

@SPArchaeologist It is actually nice when they put [repost] in the title or provide a link to their original question. Saves some work on our part. (It would be nicer if they did not self-duplicate but "silver linings" and all...)
The dupe answer stuff has no silver lining though.

If people wouldn't post duplicate content, there would be less for us to close while laughing maniacally.
My colleagues argue that firing up the Tesla coils behind me while doing so is a bit too much, but I disagree.

@Bart I am blind or this
