@animuson I have a proposition for you: since the Close Vote queue is getting lower as we speak, go review at least 1,000 more on your favorite filters, if not all 13,000. What's in it for you? Another cookie.

I work now. I don't have time to do that.

When you're done working?

@animuson So... weekend?

12:34 AM
I'm out of close vote reviews. On Meta.

Holy crap. Why so many reviews? o.o

there... was a bug.

Agh duplicates. I don't feel like reading duplicates right now. I stared at duplicates all day in the voter registration system. -.-

@Bart I think you're needed to flag something of mine in the Arduino chatroom...

m0saThis is now implemented (build rev 2014.2.27.1403 on sites) as lined out in Shog's answer. We now have a per-site configurable close vote threshold for questions to be enqueued in the close vote review queue. Review tasks with fewer close votes and no do not close review results will be gradually...

@Shog9: ?

why is there a wall of crappy posts in here?
I mean, crappy posts from folks who aren't actually in the room
In case anyone was confused

@animuson I see, Thanks.

1:40 AM
@Shog9: people in this room share posts that are worth dealing with. It is a common practice here.

@LaszloPapp sure. But 6 at a time?
Kinda pushin' it there

Yes, 6 at a time.
@Shog9: 1) I personally think that "What the hell" is not the friendliest way of questioning it. 2) I was told to ask for help when running out of the flags 3) It is usual that many posts keep rolling among people in here.

> P.S. The shrinking close review queue has made reviews more enjoyable!
Looks like the "fuzzying" is working.

I think stats are more factual than 1-2 such comments. So how are stats?

huh?
Stats: close vote queue is going down for the first time in years.
^ That enough?

1:50 AM
@Undo: you seem to repeat "huh?" quite often. It is not really helpful. Try to ask what is not clear.
That has nothing to do with stats, that is just a PR action.
the real stats is how many people participated to the close vote queue with how many votes, how it compares to the situation before, etc.

You really don't want me to switch into sarcastic medieval unambiguous english mode.

indeed, I would like you to be friendly when having questions.
While you can get comments like that after a big change, there might be people leaving for some reason, too, without commenting. That is why I think real stats are more factual than taking 1-2 positive comments.

@animuson that's an interesting conversation

Shog9So, this happened: Fuzzy the number of questions in the close review queue, a dopamine for the shutterers Now, only questions with at least 4 votes/flags are listed in the close review queue. 2:53 AM
@Shog9 does &burn=1 actually do anything? :P

@Doorknob lets me track usage

ah, ok

kinda
Mostly I just wanted to put there in case I needed it later - can't really go back and add it if it's already been used.
select count(distinct AccountId)
from LogsLast2Days
where Query like '%burn=1'
tells me 10 people have followed at least one of those links so far. So that's cool

@Shog9 Good, you put it on the CB. I was going to suggest that...

@Doorknob My friends are very random.

3:04 AM
@animuson I can tell.

I'm sure the SE office is just as awkward, with unicorns and floating heads all about.

> Burn the close review queue – until crispy

Oh btw, my dad decided to not pay attention to CenturyLink's letter and just took a "wait and see" approach to see if our service actually gets cut off tomorrow.
So if I randomly disappear... that's why.

lol, ok
that's... nice

Then you won't be able to mod @animuson.
@Shog9 So are any questions with Leave Open votes still shown? Or is it a threshold for those too?

3:16 AM
@hichris123 yes, many

@Shog9 That makes me curious: how many questions are there that are being show because of Leave Open votes, and how many are because they have 4 close votes + flags?

@hichris123 7620 with < 4 close votes/flags. ~4K with only 1 vote/flag.

Thanks @Shog!

3:39 AM
I just tried to turn Word's bold mode on with **.

third close vote review, and I get an audit that totally stopped me in my tracks
awesome.
Wait a second, so despite the queue size being made to look smaller, you can still get items that only have 1-2 close votes? It seems like everything I touch is nowhere near the 4 votes that the number is displayed for...

@jmac My understanding is that the number is fuzzed (shows only those with 4+ votes), but the queue itself is not. Perhaps someone can confirm?

@EdCottrell That would match my experience currently.

Also note that anything with a "do not close" review on it stays in the queue regardless of vote count. — Shog9 13 hours ago
1 hour ago, by Shog9
@hichris123 7620 with < 4 close votes/flags. ~4K with only 1 vote/flag.

I am enlightened.
It would be awesome if newer reviewers could get more of the slam dunk type close votes, and more veteran folk would get the tougher ones.
I am sure I would feel a lot better about my decisions to close if I was fed a steady stream of 4 existing close votes for the same reason with no leave open votes than the current mix.

Holy shit. I just filled out the "Forgot My Passwod" form on a government website and they emailed me my actual password! WTF!?!?!?

4:34 AM
@jmac pick a tag you know something about - I'm not seeing a lot of hard ones in the queue right now.

Wow!
> 1,738
reviews today

@Shog9 Yeah, I think that's a large part of the issue. is not in the top 250 tags.

So if there are no questions in my tag of choice, I am tossed to the wolves and given questions at random?
I just did that, but it wasn't giving me any.
@Shog9 See above. Changed the filter by clicking the filter button, but apparently that doesn't work.

What do people think of this idea:
Maybe we really need to up the number of close vote reviews someone can do (based on rep and/or audit pass rate). I just reached my 40 limit in ~20 minutes. — Aaron Bertrand 53 mins ago

4:40 AM
Perhaps a consequence of your &burn thingie?

@jmac no, a consequence of you having followed a filter link. The filter in the URL always takes precedence.

counter-intuitive that is...

Changing the filter should probably change the URL - frankly, not enough people have been playing with that UI to flush out all the kinks.
@hichris123 not wild about burning everyone out on Day 1

> There are no items for you to review, matching the filter "[google-visualization]"
:(

@jmac well, now you know why it wasn't in the top 250 ;-P

4:43 AM
@Shog9 True, however there's a ton of us waiting for midnight UTC as we're already at 40 reviews, and just sitting here bored. :P

Does this mean that now that I've banished close votes on a single tag to the void, I can call it a day?

@jmac or drop that and try jquery

Okay, I know about as much jquery as I do javascript. Possibly less. I will tackle

better you than me

looks like infinitely easier pickings.
Through conducting these reviews, I am beginning to understand why people want close reasons to close really really really dumb questions.

4:57 AM
> Thank you for reviewing 40 close votes today; come back in 19 hours to continue reviewing.
sigh I wanna be reviewing right now!

Wait a sec, so when someone asks an immensely stupid question, just incredibly basic, I should downvote if it doesn't match any of the reasons, right?
But there's no way to downvote from the close review queue? That seems like a massive oversight...

is reviewing suggested edits supposed to wear my brain out? lol

reviewing anything will wear your brain out eventually
@jmac is it answerable? Break out of the queue and vote / comment / answer / whatever. If it's not answerable, close
@hichris123 go answer some questions...

also i can't believe some of the edits people approve...

@Shog9 Yes, it is answerable. Just...ridiculously basic.
It already has the answer too. Does this mean I should just leave open?

5:16 AM
@jmac sure

5:27 AM
I know the #1 rule of migration is "Don't Migrate Crap", so if the question is crap but it has off-topic votes to migrate, I believe the proper action is:
1) Close for another reason if it makes sense
2) Edit/improve if it is on-topic elsewhere and can be made not crap
3) Leave open if on-topic here and can be made no crap
4) Vote to migrate if it is on-topic elsewhere and already not crap
Is this accurate?

@jmac I would say "edit if it can be made not crap" regardless of whether or not you think it should go somewhere else
otherwise, yeah

@Shog9 Most of the other reasons (too broad, unclear, etc.) aren't easy to fix without the support of the asker. But yeah, if it's easy to fix I will do so.
The quality of excel questions in the queue is absolutely miserable though, wow.

i bet sharepoint ones are at least as bad :)

I really can't imagine that being the case.
I mean, one of these questions was "how do I copy down a formula?" which is just so low-level that even if new users wanted to find it would struggle with because they wouldn't know how to describe what they want to do

heh, how far back do they go? months? years?

And I get questions that don't have 4 votes yet

@rene I've noticed that too (the 4 votes thing), I believe the number of flags is also involved in a way.

@Stijn so it looks like questions that get flagged or get a CV today are going into the queue as well.

Okay, 2d review of the day and it's crap like this. stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/4185734 I quit.

Hey folks. I have a question! :D
Say I answer one question. It gets a few upvotes. I delete the answer. After a few days, I edit the answer and add more details. I undelete the answer. Do I get the reputation back?

2:29 PM
Yep, you should.

If I understand it correctly, then it should be as follows: +50 (for 5 upvotes), -50 (when deleted), +50 (when undeleted). Right?
(assuming the number of votes cast on the answer was 50)

mumble.... what about this instead?

In reputation, right @AmalMurali. Not sure if it would generate those events again on the day of undeletion.

initial rep 200 from a single answer. Delete (200-200 => 0) . Receive downvotes (0-X => still 0). Undelete
I hope the undelete will then trigger the downvotes to be reapplied.
server side the rep was still negative, right?

Can someone just confirm something for me? Is the new way to flag minimal effort question: 'unclear what you're asking'? Or are they now permitted?

That is a possibility
Let me find the meta post on that

Is there a nice, clear faq type one somewhere? I could only find the one where it was introduced, which isn't massively conclusive...

That'd be weird if it applied it again -- that'd mean if you rep-capped and delete/undeleted your post, then you'd get more reputation.

@jadarnel27 you end up reading two crappy questions most of the time?

Well...sometimes =) Mostly it's just so inconsistent. It seems like there's a 50/50 chance that the question actually is a dupe. And it takes time to read the questions, to verify.

Q: Are review audit pass/fail decisions ever triggered by Skip?

Kate GregoryI've argued passionately in the past that when reviewing edits, Skip is often a blatantly wrong choice. I also feel there should be edit honeypots, but I believe there are not. For the remaining review queues, is Skip always a not-wrong choice? Are there audits out there that will tell someone "...

@aksu read that ^^^^
And there are more posts on meta that might help you to understand better what is expectd of you as a reviewer and what you can do to prevent being banned

So we've dropped the CV review queue by like 5k questions in, like, a day. That's pretty awesome.

Yes, it needed more people

(I think, anyway...didn't it level off at ~14-15k?)

yeah

The robo-reviewers migrated from the suggested edit queue ot the CVQ

But i don't understand the first-fail=ban system why i must be so exact?

Oh, cool. Shog9 posted an update to the CV queue numbers.

5:14 PM
Shog said that only posts with 4 votes/flags will go to the queue. Does this count on all SE sites or only on SO?

@ProgramFOX Only SO

@ProgramFOX I think it was m0sa's post that mentioned it's a per-site setting.
The other SE sites probably have no need to utilize it at this time.

@ManishBot Stoppit! That's not a phone number!

Did you call it to make sure?

5:30 PM
I did. Someone asked me what I'm wearing ....

And?

Hey all. What do you guys use in your offices? Mac or PC?

@qwertynl At school, we have PC.

Only the interaction designers use macs

Try using your PC without right-clicking, that is what it feels like the first hour. You get used to it.

A: Close Votes review: I'm going on a strike!

The Guy with The Hat I will not review any close vote question until a serious effort will be made by SO dev team to address the close vote queue size issue. Well, now a serious effort has been made. I hope you'll end your strike and join these guys (and gals) in their flamethrowing shenanigans!

I can't believe that I was the first person to say that
