you know, I really think that the probably with Code Golf (not unlike Code Review) is that we don't vote enough.
but nobody wants to change that! :(

Well, the fact that you guys only have 1,500 open, undeleted questions at 1,100 days seems rather problematic...

@animuson probably because it didn't get much traction in its early days... now we have an "okay" amount of questions per day.
(6.2 per day in the last two weeks)
@animuson (and btw we're "excellent" in all the other categories)

Just busted a guy plagiarizing tag wiki edits >:(

hi, is there a simple way of getting the number of close and delete votes one has cast?

http://site.com/users/id/?tab=votes&sort=deletion?
it should say ### Votes Cast

Not that I know of.
@Braiam You can't see your close and delete votes on deleted questions, though. So that number will be very wrong.

@Braiam: go there and see yourself how that does not solve the issue.
@animuson: then I am surprised some nominees for the moderator election could write how many close votes they have. They probably just wrote the number of the reviewed closed votes as opposed to the actual close votes?

Probably. I'm not aware of that number anywhere.

Is it not even queryable?

2:35 AM
Moderators can see how many questions they've closed all-time, if they can get the stats page to work. But those stats only show for moderators.

the delete ones are kind of nasty, but I can see how many close votes I have cast

@animuson Does that even include pre-mod?

@Braiam * On questions which haven't been subsequently deleted.
@hichris123 It does.

Now I see why it takes so long for the all-time mod stats page to load. :P
They should totally cache it...

was there any question about it on meta? I cannot find any just yet.

2:37 AM
We can barely even load the month stats anymore.
Takes about 5 seconds when it does work.

@animuson That's saying something.... so is this a Trilogy problem or only SO?

I haven't heard other site mods complain about it.
@LaszloPapp I don't remember seeing any kind of request for it. Only support requests for why there are no delete votes shown when they know they've cast them before.

right, I would be interested in getting such features.
and I mean even for non-mods about yourself.
ah, I just noticed there is another "late answer" option in the moderator tools at the bottom of the stats, interesting.

mm... where are you seeing that @laszlo?

It's about to graduate.

API /2.2/sites says it's graduated after 1296 days in public beta. Area 51 "beta" tab says it's graduated. Apart from a few favicons lying around (e.g. All Sites list, Area 51 overview favicon) it looks pretty graduated.

Oh nice. Area 51 still said public beta just a few hours ago.

That was the oldest site still in public beta. The record is now held by Board & Card Games (1226 days).

This question had been frozen: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/222949/…
Yesterday every one agreed it could be a constructive question, except for my history of arguing.
People also agreed that is unfair that I'm getting banned because of downvote on that question
The question become unfrozen and other people downvoted it
I cannot write on meta, so I'm asking here to froze that question
just for the sake of fairness

I didn't know I could do that. Reading through this (meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/118124/…) meta question it's apparent that many people didn't know you should use the "flag" option to mark as duplicate. Is it really necessary to downvote a perfectly valid answer that addressed the OP? — FarligOpptreden 4 mins ago
wow
2.2K rep user, and was not aware of the duplicate flagging system. It is strange a scenario.

Sam
thanks

@LaszloPapp not that strange, I think we have 100K users unaware of trivial things

define trivial (i.e. give concrete examples please).

E.g. favoriting questions
I saw high rep user who wasn't aware of this

8:23 AM
I do not think that is comparable to duplicate flags as they are much less widely used IMHO.

@Sam locking (i.e. freezing) won't really help you, only thing that will dig you out of the ban is disassociating that question from your account

Sam
@ShadowWizard How can I do that?

@Sam ask a community manager, only they can do that (think that not even a mod)
But don't push it too hard and please accept "no" as an answer.
Worth asking and trying but it's their decision.

@LaszloPapp I checked his profile and he didn't have the Informed badge which might explain it...

Sam
do you know any community manager?

8:26 AM
@rene: even then, you get used to it that others comment and close questions with duplicate at the reputation level 2.2K usually.

Yeah, I mention it because for me it is a sign of users not paying attention.

Sam
@ShadowWizard I don't want to push it hard but also Benjamin agreed that question was constructive. If the objective of meta is being fair and making polite discussion, this seems not a really good behaviour

yep.

Sam
someone will help me stating that taking a ban for that discussion was unfair?

@rene: perhaps, it would have been worth linking the Stack Overflow About page to him.

8:29 AM
@Sam thought that by now you'll remember... there are Tim Post, Shog9 and Pops. You can also discuss it via email with the team.

@LaszloPapp I wanted to do that but he follwed your pressing advice ;-)

@Sam Just drop that line of argument for now. Work on showing good behaviour/content and getting yourself unbanned first. The "broken record" approach is not going to help that.

@rene: :)

Q: Where on earth is the mark duplicate UI on Stack Overflow?

csuwldcatI have heard tales of fabled UI elements that can be used to mark questions as dupes, or vote for questions to be duped by others. After scouring the question page, this UI is either not there for a user of my rep level, or is harder to find than the Illuminati. Please advise.

funky title.

Sam
Bart i want to drop.. but the question was closed and become reopened. That question was constructive. Everyone is sayng.
It's totally, completely unfair. I know you agree on that.
And now it become reopened.

And the answer from the community is to simply accept this unfairness.

@LaszloPapp Yeah, that link would have been perfect as a comment

Sam
8:33 AM
Please , if you believe I experimented an unfairness take my defence.

@Sam I won't. As you have been told plenty of times by now, that single question did not get you banned. Tipped you over the edge perhaps. But it was not the single cause. I've told you what the productive approach is from here on out. Take it or leave it.

Sam
@Bart Bart it's not fair the same. In a fairness scenario it's not admissible that a well written and constructive question push someone towards being banned.

Yeah, not going to have that argument again. Good luck.

@rene: IIRC he mentioned that link himself.

I want to ask, is it right place to ask about randomness of hot network questions?
other then going for meta

Sure @VishwasSharma.

I saw randomness of Hot network questions on every other page
shouldn't they be same on every page
at-least for same site
like stackoverflow
I opened following question

Q: APK missing some classes when built with maven

conorThis is a duplicate of this question, but that answer does not solve my problem. Some background to my specific build environment: I am using the Android maven plugin along with this sample project. The project consists of a parent pom.xml, and then a pom.xml for each of the three sub modules (...

and in its sidebar checked on list of hot network question
then another question

Q: How to build apk in release mode using maven

NeminHey I am having a hard time building and signing apk in release mode. I am able to create the apk using maven but when I try to upload it, Google playstore says that I need to build in release mode. here is my pom.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <project xmlns="http://maven.apache....

but, its list of hot network questions differ from the last one
so, I checked on other pages also
and its is same
the list of hot network questions vary with every page I open

Hmm, don't know @VishwasSharma. I always assumed it was more or less random

@Bart ok, just wanted to take it to notice
although I checked on this answer

Morning

I thought that Hot network questions might be same for whole network of StackExchange

Maybe every webserver in the network has his own set of hot network questions cached. Depending on which server is used to serer your request you get a slightly altered list.

It should be the same for all, but it randomizes a bit every time you load the page so you end up seeing different questions..

I think we're seeing excerpts from a shuffled larger hotlist these days.

I read somewhere that it's just randomly picked from a list of 100 or so questions selected as hot questions

8:58 AM
well this is the latest response regarding hot questions list

A: Ease up on the Hot Network Question Randomness

Jeremy TThis is a recent change which resulted in a 30% increase in engagement. All of this engagement came from repeated clicks. We are not likely to go back to the static list, but we do have improved algorithm changes coming in the next couple of months.

but, I also wanted to know that, will this algo change resolve the randomness of hot questions on different pages

I'd guess because there are plenty of questions that are (by some definition) hot on the network.

My view in matter is, that there should be only one list per StackExchange site

There are indeed total of 100 hot questions which can be seen here:
They are sorted by "hotness points" which can still be seen in the old top bar
And in the sidebar it just show random items taken from that list of 100 questions

never knew that. thanks for your response.

Hmm... might not be 100% random, but surely they are taken from the list

Q: Fuzzy the number of questions in the close review queue, a dopamine for the shutterers

randomUsers are freaking out over the number of questions with close votes. More so when they look at the review queue and have to grab a newspaper to fan themselves as they do declare that the high number is giving them palpitations. Currently that number represents all questions waiting for a pillo...

12:31 PM
This was funny: I don't think moderator might go wrong or any script may go wrong. They both are well tested... :-)

Down to 60k

is there a list somewhere in chronological order for the tag creation right from the launch?
@Oded: that kind of makes sense.
but it is true that existing closure vote count does not help the people specializing for one domain.

12:46 PM
~55k now

It is key to see if in the end MORE people are going to cast close votes

@Oded why did your name change to m0sa though? :)
@rene: it might be the other way around.
@rene: people will not start closing questions as the first person because it might not be reviewed in a light year.
we will see.

Yeah, that might become the problem
It is something we have to see over the next days or so how it develops

is there a list somewhere in chronological order for the tag creation right from the launch?

When I review I get a bunch of CV questions for today and after a while I end up CV-ing questions that were 8 months old

@rene: what is your filter?
I only filter for C++.
and I never get that far.

12:55 PM

personally, I filter for POB and JavaScript

aha, the most common tag....
@rene: does it mean there is a bunch of smart people in there, and not in C++? :)

I'm not sure, I'm in it if that counts?

hehe

I stopped being bothered by C++ in 2001

12:57 PM
Any opinions on which dupe to use [here
Damnit, I keep pressing enter

lol

Any opinions on which dupe to use here? We're both kind of right I think.

@rene: yeah, osama bin laden changed the world in 2001
C++ is not the good old anymore.
@rene: but it does alter the use case of the moderation tools (close tab)
@rene: there will be no point for me anymore to go there.
I only went there to get 4 cv stuff to feel I get something done. :-)
I will see no reason to go there anymore.

@Stijn hmmm, both dups are not great if you ask me

1:02 PM
unless if it gets the old behavior of the close vote review queue.
IMO, both behaviors should be supported because different people like to close differently.
there is no "catch-all" option.

@LaszloPapp Yeah, I left the CV for a while when it got to 60K and really loved it when I got access to the mod-tools

@rene: well, I prefer to deal with C++ closure votes if possible since I have more expertise in there.
but sometimes I just like seeing that I participated to actually closing something without checking the close tab on my profile.
with this change, it is a regression for me.
I cannot do both anymore, and I could do that before.
so in that sense, as a 10K+ user, I am more limited now.

That was what drove me crazy: when I had to judge topics I really didn't know anything about, I kept hitting skip, or googling for hours...

ah, sorry, I misunderstood your sentence; my bad.
has someone brought this regression up?

@rene How so?

1:07 PM
@Stijn I think the original dup is slightly better because it address asp.net specific. Yours is a better fit from a general approach.

Actually, this is a regression for 10K+ users. :-( We could have two different workflows before, namely: 1) based on filtering (review queue) 2) based on existing close vote numbers (moderation tools). After this change, we lose 1) all of a sudden. I think both should be continued, at least for 10K+ users, because there is no "catch-all" option that suits everyone. — Laszlo Papp 9 secs ago

I just casted the last vote @Stijn

@rene Thanks. I suppose the result is fine, both dupes are mentioned.

@Stijn yep, that was my idea as well

does anyone still have close votes left for today?
can someone test that the filtering is actually still there? I took a wild assumption based on my reading, and it might be totally wrong.
so you still get the questions based on your filtering, but with 4 close votes first?
or you get all the 4 votes first?

1:10 PM
@LaszloPapp I'll take a look.

I don't get 4 close vote questions, and the filtering still works.

I can confirm what @Qantas says.

so this change is only for the visible numbers, and nothing changes in the actual behavior pattern?

Same here. I don't get Q's with 4 CV's

Same here

1:12 PM
There's no way the queue actually got cleared that fast -- someone with 10k could look at the review history and count.
Highly unlikely, but maybe they changed something without announcing it or there was a bug?

OK, so the point of the change is only to be less frighting about numbers, so it is just a PR stuff?

No idea, honestly.

From what I understand, it's not supposed to just change the visible number. I think the reason we still get questions with only 1 CV is because the queue hasn't been completely processed yet to remove these.

Is it only meant to show questions with X amount of votes?

1:15 PM
Yes, 4
mosa expect it to be around 5K

I'm not so good at hitting those birds

@rene there was a duck hunt remake that let you use a MK-47 instead of the standard gun. We only have to hope that flappy hunt goes in that direction.... even if I would prefer to use the BFG-9000

I would like to use MG-42 against flappy birds

The BFG-9000 would do the trick.

Jeroen VannevelI must say I disagree with closing this question.
