@Raff Wait, I repro. That's not broken to me (broken == can't see anything), I think of it as bad CSS. :P

user259867
That's what I mean by the layout being broken. Maybe it's an exxaggerrattionn.

The avatar does look cold, but I'm not sure what pixelization means.

@Raff It's just to make it look more edge / ice-y and so that it's still reasonably visible when scaled down to really tiny sizes (like in the chat sidebar right now).
There's fancier versions here.

user259867
In full size, gaussian blur looks way better.

a question if I may - if I have 526 rep on a site (that is after giving over 700 away in bounties and a possible mass-upvote of 55) and have voted over 300 times, if I were to delete that account - would everyone else lose the rep that I have given?

user273376
I also have 11 questions an 13 answers... and a whole mess more in the meta of that site

user273376
I have read the faq meta.stackexchange.com/questions/126470/… but it is not clear for this situation

user273376
anyone?

really, just don't delete your account

user273376
8:06 AM
that's not what I am asking about

From what I know, rep from votes will be removed, but I don't know for accepted answer & bounty
and well... child meta doesn't affect rep changes (exception: MSE, because it's a main site, not a child meta)

MSE is not a child meta

user273376
@AndrewT. I understnd that, however, accoring to the post I linked above, it hints at the rep not being removed from active users

@JanDvorak I should have written that clearly in the first place... (edited)

@SabreTooth If you're going to delete your account, why do you really care about what happens to the rep

user259867
8:14 AM
@SabreTooth The reputation from accepts and bounties will stay (technically, the ownership of those things gets transferred to the Community bot). Most likely, the votes will be deleted and reputation from them will be gone. The vote-preserving deletion is a semi-manual process that is not used often; it's typically invoked in cases involving thousands of votes.

user273376
i rather not have people lose their rep (I know its fake points)

user259867
@WilliamPrice Yes, I also cared somewhat about that: mostly because many questions would again become "unanswered" without my vote. Was happy to see that SE kept the votes after my 2nd deletion.

follow-up question: what determines a user is active or not

@Raff So you're saying the SE behavior changed between your first and second deletion?

user259867
Yes, they did not practice the vote-preserving thing at the time of the 1st one. (Also it was by a mod; back then mods could delete high-rep users. Not anymore)

user259867
8:19 AM
@AndrewT. It's subjective. Used to be: if the number of votes (or rep) in the deletion queue catches the eye of someone on the team, they'd go push some extra buttons (or grab someone with developer access, I don't know the details). Some high-voting users were simply missed in the process.

user259867
They've been trying to make deletion more automatic recently, so perhaps the monitoring for high-activity users got more consistent too.

user273376
this is reassuring @Raff

user259867
By the way, @SabreTooth -- is there anything wrong with HSM? I am worried it lost its steam.

user259867
Was doing very well out of the gate, but the recent stats are poor.

Losing the accepted answers would be a big issue, I agree. But as they've fixed that, in the here-and-now, it's back to a simple matter of only what happens to other people's rep, right? (Or am I missing something that makes it not so "simple"?) At the end of the day, either deleting one's account is more important (to the account holder) than the resulting effect on the community... or it's not.

user259867
8:22 AM
Accepted answers are not lost. I meant the situations where user A answered user B's question, and I (user C) was the only one to upvote the answer. That can happen a lot in the more obscure tags.

user259867
And it's not so binary: either I stay, or I don't care. I may want to go and still leave the site a better place.

I didn't mean it to sound quite so binary, as you put it. There's always the option to stop using the account, but not delete it. I was coming from the standpoint of deletion seems like a last resort or drastic measure, and the reason for choosing to do it would have to outweigh your desire to leave the site in a better state.

user259867
Yes, there is always the option to keep cigarettes in your pocket and simply stop smoking them.

A fair point. And you confirm my suspicion that SE is addictive.

surprising isn't it?

user273376
8:35 AM
@Raff there are a few problems that I can't quite put my finger on

user273376
@WilliamPrice and yes, these sites are addictive... but I figure out of site, out of mind

@Vogel612'sShadow Surprising that it's addictive? No, not really. What did surprise me was just how easy it was to get hooked.

But there's so many people around ranting about the question quality, well at least for SO...

user273376
Also, I do not like sites I consider to be 'dead weight' on my profile, I feel compelled to visit - when I simply have no use for some of the sites

user273376
and with the non-used sites out of the picture, I can focus on the sites where I feel I can contribute in a long term meaningful way

I was wondering if the idea of going towards a wikification of SO was ever considered
I think it would not work easily
but I'm curious if has been considere / strongly considered
what: has been the idea of embracing wikipedia model on SE been strongly considered?
why: wikipedia is another great site having a lot of success and the quality of contents appears to me better than most of the contents here.
cons: it could be really hard to motivate people to accept a model which is very different from the actual one. Other cons that I cannot see.
