10:02 PM
I sat next to some guy who wrote a bunch of Perl books on a plane.
He was kind of annoying.

What could you expect?

Yeah, also I don't like talking about programming with strangers. Usually airplane buddy conversation is: "What do you do? I'm a programmer. What do you program in? C++ and Java. Cool, I don't know what those are, I was just being polite and I'm going to sleep now."
But this one was "What do you do? I'm a programmer. What do you program in? C++ and Java. OMG C++ RANT I WROTE PERL BOOKS." :'(

:P

Yeah that's totally him. He also made a lot of loud, tasteless jokes about Mexicans.

How can perl vs C++ even seem like a valid comparison?
Whitespace vs Javascript?

10:06 PM
I don't know.

PHP vs anything? :P
PHP is different. It has one very specialized use: NOTHING.

^ Extends to "get an idea of the person you're talking to before making loud jokes about Mexicans (or C++) in public"

Does anybody actually know how to fix this? github.com/bjb568/DevDoodle/issues/27

@bjb568 I get 404, that's the issue?

@ShadowWizard Nah, it's in a private repo.
@Unihedron Sentient bots…

SO's fastest closed question (12 seconds): stackoverflow.com/questions/24661836/…, fasted non-dupe reason (22 seconds): stackoverflow.com/questions/27074284/…, and fastest with 5 voters (59 seconds): stackoverflow.com/questions/20666557/…
That John Conde guy is a dupe marking powerhouse. And Andrew Barber's been crushing "too broad".

yay

@JasonC Those are fastest non-deleted.
More than likely there's some pretty crappy deleted posts that were closed super quickly.

@hichris123 Yeah
Best we get.

10:35 PM
Unless you ask the Shog or some other employee.

Best we get that also involves instant gratification.

@hichris123 The fastest ones are the ones blocked by the spam/offensive filter before being posted.

It's kind of satisfying to get an accepted answer for a language you've never written a line of.

11:15 PM
I hate pet-related forums on the internet. Pets.se is pretty good but like
"Oh yeah my X totally does Y too!" is a useless answer to "Why does my X do Y?"
If you want to tell us all about your adorable X go annoy your friends on Facebook or Instagram.

What's Instagram?

I mean of course Instagram is crap, but you should know!

Are lmgtfy links blocked in chat?
lmgtfy.com/?q=instagram Nope, looks good.

@SmokeDetector false
… why didn't it do anything?

11:29 PM
I don't think phone numbers use the bayesian filter

Need "dude, you forgot your stack trace" as a gold-hammerable close reason for .

And every other language..

@Unihedron ya promise you won't abuse it?
@JasonC Need also "yet another (problem desc) in (tag)". For example, yet another draw ascii triangle in java

11:48 PM
too broad

"This question appears to be off-topic because you forgot to look at, yet alone include, the most useful and basic debugging information available to you."

...this can often be resolved by inspecting the problem more carefully before posting
-> conoquial debugging reason

I also wouldn't mind if clippy popped in to the question form and said, "It looks like you've included a stack trace. Pasted code does not contain line numbers. Please consider marking the indicated line in the massive code wall you are about to post, you fucking idiot."
