Argh, people don't know how to use offensive/abusive flags.

Do you mean that people should use them, or that I was wrong when flagging it as abusive?

@AstroCB with your fixed topbar userscript scroll-to-comment scrolls the comment below the topbar

You were the only one (other than me) who actually used an offensive flag for an offensive post. Come on, it's not that hard

@Unihedron why did you remove your answer on this

2:51 PM
@rene 'cuz OP said it wasn't what he asked for

He only said it wasn't his question. As in, the question on SO is not mine but I ask on meta on behalf of the OP....
You said your question is now open

You mean Inf did?
Your question is now reopened. — Infinite Recursion 2 hours ago

@Unihedron Yes, No!
The OP of the meta question is not the same as the OP of the SO question
You say in your answer your question (onSO) is now open where the meta OP responds with That is not my question (as in not mine)
Where are the grammar nazi's when you need them?

@uni, I wrote a quick comment, not an answer. I focused my energy on reopening the question. If you post an answer, verify the facts yourself. Don't depend on a lazy comment :P

I don't like Meta either. But it's important to voice opinions and participate in discussions if we are a part of a community. I hate being a silent dormant member ;)

Am I the only one who actually likes Meta?

The silent majority
@ProgramFOX Potentially.

A: Is there anyway to further improve my bad question?

UnihedronYour question only received the downvotes for not showing your research effort and it's quite localized, and not as helpful to future readers. Also, it's answered here. Asking questions is hard: make it count and post well-put content that other readers will likely benefit from your question, o...

@Unihedron That's not your fault.

@ProgramFOX It does make me rethink about Meta. There was a featured post once, about whether Meta should be used for mentoring.

3:21 PM
I don't know why the user got removed. It might be totally unrelated to Meta.

The last guy I helped, his post was undeleted by the mod. It felt good meta.stackexchange.com/questions/243317/…

New users aren't of intent to help build the site that early. When they visit meta they wouldn't realize that the place is for discussing behaviour and the site itself; Usually their meta visit is the final straw; Rants, "please let me do this", duplicate of every faq post ever twice, et cetera.
My first MSO visit was where I stared at my post ready to revert whatever I've done by deleting, btw.

Go to ELU meta, you will see old users ranting @uni :P

@JanDvorak That's odd; I'll take a look.

ELU meta is amazing..

3:23 PM
@Unihedron That might count for a certain amount of new users, but certainly not for all.

@ProgramFOX Yes, you're right. I don't sift through meta anymore though. I rather go close questions. And now that I gave myself an actual project, I've lessened on participation as well.

My first visit to Meta was idle curiosity. I was trying to find the talk equivalent of wikipedia on SE.

Infinite RecursionThe situation: A post appeared on one of the SE sites in all-caps shouting HOW DO I TURN OFF CAPS LOCK?. A: Is it okay to write a post on a main site as a result of chatroom jokes, or is that considered abusive?

bjb568Abuse! Posting crap is posting crap, "a moderator told me so" is not an excuse. In this case, the answer contained a picture of a caps lock key which is kinda inappropriate and condescending. Gaming badges is always bad. Encouraging bad behavior via chat should be punished.

But I agree :P

Also, Tim Post might write an interesting answer for the anonymous SE post, am looking forward to it:
This isn't an unreasonable idea, I'm not entirely certain why this has received so many down-votes. I'll be writing a more detailed answer as to what would break (and break badly) tomorrow - this is something I've tested a few times (not as a hidden service) - stop and think about the premise for a moment, it's interesting :) They aren't saying 'let's do this', they're saying 'think about what would happen if ..' - not suggesting that the idea is good, just .. what would happen? Hello, I don't have enough rep yet on Stackoverflow to rollback an edit (2 actually) made by OP on his own question, but his edits have removed the main focus of his question. I'm talking about stackoverflow.com/questions/26957831/… and was hoping anyone here might agree with me to roll it back (as suggested on meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/271934/how-do-you-rollback )

@OliverW. what's the issue?

Edit looks ok to me.

Not familiar with the tech involved; quick scan looks like he's giving a play-by-play as he investigated the solution you suggested in the comments, which is usually a good thing.

Isn't it a bad idea to edit a question such that one of the proposed solutions becomes part of the question then?

Then he posted an answer with his final solution, which is always a good thing.

10:59 PM
I agree with the answer that he posted

You could probably move the investigation into the answer, but that's not strictly required.
There are a bunch of cases where the asker never arrives at an answer... and never updates the question with what he's tried while searching for one. Those suck; you come upon them months later & are left scratching your head wondering... "did he try what that guy suggested in the comments? Was it a dead-end? Should I just give up?"

okay. I was under the impression that on SO it was a better idea to keep the question relatively clean (not too many edits of the play-by-play style), so that people who came from a google search can quickly assess whether the question is relevant to them. If they saw too mcuh code, it would scare them away.
But thank you for considering my request nevertheless :)

A cleanup is fine, but those edits are better than nothing and aren't worth rolling back.

@OliverW. clean is always preferable to noisy, but there's a limit - cut a question back too far & folks with the same problem are left wondering if it's really the same.
And that's where I can't really make a call here, because I don't work with anything described in that question so can't say what's relevant and what's not.
when in doubt, leave it alone - nothing stopping someone from trimming it down a week, month, year down the road if it turns out it's just getting in the way.

So just to be on the safe side (because this is the 2nd time I came across this), if the OP makes a play-by-play edit to show what he's tested from the proposed answers, it shouldn't be rolled back?

11:04 PM
I wouldn't, unless the issue is resolved and it turns out to be completely irrelevant

Alright, thank you for your guidance :)

like, "oh, I accidentally deleted by bin folder and forgot to mention that - all the problems I encountered after the first answer were just me-problems"
