The Wal-mart brand was the only brand they sold that had medium-sized bags. :(

You can fit more stuff in the large ones, so you should buy those.

They're too big for my trash can though.

@animuson try a different store. Don't contribute to the walmart monopoly on medium-sized trashbags!
(or you could buy a bigger trashcan)

I specifically bought a smaller trash can so that it would fit nicely next to my new desk.

Then you should buy a bigger desk too.

12:03 AM
Then it wouldn't fit in my room.

Hmm...

And don't say I should buy a bigger room.

Buying a new house so that you can avoid contributing to the wal-mart dictatorship is a bit much

That's already on the table, actually. Well, not for reasons of avoiding Wal-mart's dictatorship though.

Add wal-mart to the reasons for buying a new house.

12:05 AM
I did find out recently, though, that when my parents die I get a lot of money.

@animuson All hail animuson the to-be-rich-in-hopefully-a-long-time moderator!

My parents are only 50, I don't know why they're pressuring me so much to make sure I have all this information. -.-

lol
So that you have all the information, of course!
(like how to avoid buying wal-mart brand stuff)

This isn't something I want to think about though! I have enough things on my mind lately...

Ooh a meta flag!

12:08 AM

There's always Meta flags, you just don't see most of them. :P

Grrr
bad animuson, lording that diamond over me :P

^ This is so good.

@animuson Soon you won't be able to see meta flags either :P

Meta SE flags*

12:10 AM
Well yeah

But anyways, when my parents are gone, I will be an instant millionaire. :3 Yay for not having to work for money.

Not if they take up gambling in their later years :P

@animuson But not yay for your parents dying.

Well, a huge portion of it is in life insurance policies - so they can't exactly spend that.
I have no idea why they have such massive life insurance policies... Or where the hell they got them.

They could gamble enough that they can't pay the life insurance policies :P
@animuson That is a ginourmous policy...

12:14 AM
My first reaction when he showed me that printout was "why the f***........"
But I guess it makes more sense when you consider that I used to have a brother... I was only supposed to get half of it.

Then I could buy things on everyone's Amazon wish lists! >:D
I'm sure my parents would love me spending the money that way.

@animuson You could buy @jadarnel27 (was it him?) that watch he always wanted!

You most certainly couldn't buy jadarnel27.

@animuson Heh. Maybe I should have flagged it as NAA so I got a helpful flag... :P

Holy crap. Amazon handled my flag within 15 minutes? o.o

What flag?

I flagged a product review for not being a product review.

I think Amazon's moderators actually get paid though. ;P

Is that your for you to get paid for being a mod?
You really know it's an audit when there's unformatted code and the edit summary says added type declarations. This is the audit.

@LaszloPapp That's an automated comment from the Low Quality Posts review queue. There isn't actually a "this is spam" comment that you can select.

even though, it is an invalid flag, it gets the attention closer at least.

Kiełbasa, kołbasa, klobasa, kobasa, kolbasi, kovbasa, kobasi, and kubasa are common North American anglicizations for a type of Central and Eastern European sausage. In English, these words refer to a particular genre of sausage, common to all Central and Eastern European countries but with substantial regional variations. Oh, did anyone see Google bought Nest for $3.2 million?

That was when I updated this old, classic-asp web app to connect to a SQL Server database (before that it was connected to an MS Access DB on a shared drive...).

@jadarnel27 You actually dealt with that pain called MS SQL Server? Ouch.

@hichris123 Haha, that statement makes me think you've never used MS Access.

You're right, I have not.
Is it actually really bad?

Well...yeah. It is useful for some things.
But definitely not as the backend for a web app.

3:23 AM
Like what?
Can you type random stuff in it and it makes a unicorn? :P

Or for any large scale data. Once you get beyond a few thousand rows, it starts to slow down quite a bit.
Or maybe it's more like a few 10's of thousands of rows.
Anyway, nothing like what SQL Server or MySQL can handle.

Me prefers MySQL.

@hichris123 It has this forms designer thing that allowed people to make very simple internal apps very quickly. They would throw it on a shared drive, and people could do data entry.
You could write VB Script / VBA event handlers for the operations performed on the forms.
@hichris123 I've recently had to start using it for this WordPress thing. It's growing on me, but I still prefer SQL Server.
That web-based admin console is annoying.

PHPMyAdmin?

Yeah. That.

3:28 AM
Just execute queries onto the database. It's so much better. :P
I get so confused by the admin thingy.

hmm, I may have misremembered.... I thought there would be a badge for the first awarded bounty when you answer such questions.

@LaszloPapp I don't think so... I thought it was just for awarding/starting one. Maybe I'm misremembering too....

Nah, you seem to be right. I have not even noticed I answered a bounty question to be honest. :D I still wonder why such a simple question got a bounty. The answer is pretty much a trivial one-liner. :D

This is meta-land @michael, we don't discuss practical matters such as SO being useful here.

We only handle complaints here, not praises

Complaints! \o/

6:37 AM
I would like to complain about the poor service in this tavern. Over 30 minutes in, and nobody has offered to take my drink order.
I would also like to complain about users who believe that "community moderation" is equivalent to "making things the way I want them"

Aw, there used to be a whole awesome room for complaining.

20k users should be able to suggest tag synonyms without the reputation requirement

you mean, without tag score requirement

@Flyk why? I think it's a good thing. Users shouldn't mess with tags they're not familiar with.

@ShadowWizard On most sites, yes, but on some sites it just results in moderators creating the tag synonyms at a few 20k users' request.
because the users who have the score in the tags either don't care or don't have the rep to do it

@ShadowWizard On Arqade I know exactly what tags should and shouldn't be
why should I have to wait until a mod is around to create a synonym?
not every site is SO

Good points there @Flyk, but I'm 99% sure it was already brought up on Meta :)

9:14 AM
there are plenty of sites in the Stack Exchange network that wouldn't require subject knowledge before making tag synonyms for their tags
they should rename the privilege level to "not so trusted user"

I count 11 tag synonyms suggested by users, and 236 made by moderators..

I still think it's better if few people review tag synonym suggestion before making it happen, so having moderators do it after it's asked is fine in my opinion.

then why is the suggestion feature even present?

@JanDvorak maybe once upon a time users cared more for this? dunno... but still it's "nice to have" privilege, don't want to see it taken away.

it's used more for cleanup by established users
@ShadowWizard I didn't say an override for the entire system, I said allow us to suggest without having a score of 5
it would still need approval

@Flyk OK, I'll go search Meta :)

it exists on meta
it has an accepted answer from a non-employee stating it should happen

I don't like the change to the title
it now wraps onto multiple lines

@Flyk so rollback but it's crucial to make it clear you mean not on SO

it's not tagged SO

the body specifically mentions three other SE sites

@Flyk and spanked with a giant C

@Flyk I hate when that happens

What about: "On smaller sites, allow trusted users to suggest tag synonyms without a score of 5 in a tag"

@Duncan I think that would still wrap
and Arqade is the #3 site in the network by traffic, who are you calling small?

9:47 AM
@Flyk what's so horrible in wrapping?

@ShadowWizard it looks ugly

@Flyk but it's useful

@Flyk My mistake. "On inferior sites, allow trusted users to suggest tag synonyms without a score of 5 in a tag" ;-)

wow
inferior by what metric? We have a higher rate of answered questions than pretty much any site on the network as well

@Flyk anything outside Stack Overflow is inferior

@Duncan yeah, think it's really silly that we need 1000 (!) rep for that minor thing

That link is a prime example. Is the accepted answer 3 votes because it's contentious, or because it's just not received many up-votes.

@Duncan we can still see the timeline, let me check

judging by the title

@michaelb958 wish I have 40 more rep, would vtc

@JanDvorak how can deleted post be updated? You mean edited by someone?

@Manishearth Both of them made me cringe twice - once for the quality, again for the realisation that there was nothing I could do.

10:11 AM
@ShadowWizard I mean, the information about whether a specific post has been deleted. The API refreshes way too slow.
from what I've read
Currently I just find and fetch the question page but I feel bad about it even if I'm 2.5 decades below "heavy abuse".

Hmm... don't think there's a way. Ugly way would be to screenscrape the post revisions page, looking for "Deleted" in there. But not sure it's legit.

I screenscrape the post question page. If the post is absent (404 in case of questions) or .deleted-answer, I consider it deleted.
the API lets me bulk-check posts (only non-deleted posts are returned), but I can't accept a refresh rate of one minute.
Currently I'm scraping the edit page cancel link to find an answer's question if I find an answer orphaned. Is this a reliable way?

@ShadowWizard I still feel like it got misread as asking about Stack Overflow
-.-

10:40 AM
@Flyk why? What makes you think this way?
@JanDvorak you mean that if there is cancel link he answer is deleted? Not sure I follow...

@ShadowWizard no. The cancel link leads to the question page, which is how I find the question ID from the answer ID given no other hints.

@JanDvorak oh, I see. sounds reasonable enough. :)

@ShadowWizard the guy who answered approached it from tags in terms of stack overflow

Q: A lot of sock puppet accounts on the Bitcoin StackExchange site

JMKI am aware the the Bitcoin site has it's own Meta, but that meta was last active on the 6th of January so am posting here also. I'm more of a lurker on Bitcoin StackExchange than an actual user, but I was lurking (like I do) and I spotted these guys: dalower mony jeme musakhan joli moly foysal...

From quick look he's right, someone is gaming the system, luckily it didn't overflow to other sites just yet but when he'll get all socks to 200, he'll most likely invade other sites.

Myeah, that's at the very least suspicious. Love the wonderful lines they have in their profiles though. Makes them all equally "unique".

@Bart it's not something new, sock puppet rings caused some damage before

@ShadowWizard pinged
Help by spam flagging

Not claiming it is @ShadowWizard

This exact thing has happened before, though there was a very focused and devious aspect to it.
Not sure if it is the same thing

11:48 AM
Perhaps it's my deep and desperate loneliness, but I'd quite like a little ring of sock puppets. Sounds kinda nice.

GAHHH "What did you create the data with?" "Version 2.3" .... "I specifically stated in the manual to only use version 2.2 and to not update without us telling you so" "Yeah but 2.3 is newer, right? So that should be better" "Yeah, it's also why your application no longer works correctly and why I've been hunting strange bugs for two days now" ..... got to love clients.

So why release version 2.3 before it's stable, @Bart? ;)

2.2 to 2.3 should be a backwards compatible change, right? :-)

12:17 PM
What Google is going to do with Wi-Fi thermostats?

@Bart you expect users to read the manual?

Never trust version numbering
It's quite difficult to tell whether v. Angry Koala is backwards compatible with v. Irritated Koala.

@3ventic surely it's compatible with Koala 2.0

There's no Koala 2.0

@3ventic oh, too bad
@Oded just to confirm something I claimed in a comment, you can see this, right?

12:22 PM
Perturbed Koala > Irritated Koala > Annoyed Koala > Frustrated Koala > Indignant Koala > Offended Koala > Angry Koala

@Oded nah, this all fully meets my expectations by now. But still .... GAHHH

lol I thought you were joking then realized

@ShadowWizard yep

@ShadowWizard Yup. I love it when developers go and make a totally different version naming

@Oded cool, if you have some minutes to spare on bug fixing... meta.stackoverflow.com/q/216094/152859 :)
@3ventic yeah, but must admit it does make the game more special

12:26 PM
@ShadowWizard Ha, it's not our software. We just use its data. And for some reason unknown to me, they insist on making changes with every version. And more than likely it's only a version identifier somewhere ...

Next version should be the last one to break save games so that should start the fun again

@3ventic $15 are not that cheap but that game surely look interesting!

@ShadowWizard The template looks OK to me on Security

@Bart you mean breaking changes?
@Oded so how come the mod doesn't see the link?
Maybe the format is different for dev/mod?

Dunno. Could be that the change was made after those messages were sent.

12:29 PM
Yep @ShadowWizard.

@Oded oh, so just warn some random user and see ;)
I can associate my sock in there so you can use it as test-case
