Does anybody remember a Meta question about including the actual duplicate link as part of the close message? It seems not everybody notices the little "Possible Duplicate" box at the top of the question.
Why doesn't the "closed" message provide a link to the duplicate question? I don't want to dig through all Michael Myers questions t find it; seems like it be easy to put in a link to the actual question. — ElisabethDec 10 '12 at 19:58
On questions that are marked as a duplicate of another question I think it would make it a little clearer if the link to the original question was in the "closed as exact duplicate" box as well.
This is just because I'm newish to the site and thought the "possible duplicate" quote was a question...

@ShaWizDowArd Using the reply feature links your message to the specific message that you chose to reply to (and prepends the @ automatically), so when you hover over it, the linked message will also highlight further up so you know what it's referring to. You can also click the prepended arrow to jump up to that specific message.
If you only use the @ syntax, it doesn't link to a previous message and the system just attempts to highlight previous messages by that user that might be part of the conversation.
I don't remember what exactly avoids the inbox notification... I think it's something like, if you don't see the page it's on in 15 minutes? I'm not sure.
You will receive notification of chat replies in your inbox after a sufficiently long period (15-20 minutes), provided you don't acknowledge them by clearing the notification in the chat window or sending new messages.

@animuson For that matter, do they get MetroCards shipped to them monthly? Also, on-site employees aren't spared sharp-stick-poking only because all the sharp sticks are sent to the telecommuters in a bizarre, expensive remote poking ritual... are they?

Well then, I should apply. Because my computer desk is so old and crappy that when I attempt to clean it, one might imagine someone having relations on a squeaky bed in a nearby room...
