"You can't just start touching all the stuff inside my computer. Those are computer chips; there are probably ones and zeros flying everywhere right now..."
- My brother, to me while I was trying to upgrade the hardware in his PC.

I'm feeling Apple-sacriligious.
I ordered an SSD the other day, just downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2.
I'm looking into some new monitors now.
I have a stack of PCs in my room.
Want to be awesome with them.

Not used PCs much?

@jadarnel27 Whaddya mean?
I switched to Mac about 2 years ago.
These are all secondhand towers, Dells of different models.
I have my primary PC - an HP next to those as well.

Ah. I read "Want to be awesome with them." as "I want learn to use them awesomely."
As though you didn't really know how to us PCs, but are learning now.

@jadarnel27 Nah, I think I'm good with Windows. Not a fan of all the GUI based admin stuff, but meh. I'm planning on running Ubuntu anyway. Now I gotta find some HDDs.
Actually, I have bunch of old ones here, I think. All really small though.

Anybody around? I had a flag declined and I don't want to spam meta with another "Why was my flag declined" question; but I want to be sure I'm not flagging inappropriately.

@senderle Hit me.
(with your question)

No, actually hit him. It'll be funny... I promise.

I'll remove the comment if you think I'm wrong, but it looks a lot like a new question to me
(But without a question mark.)

Hmmm, looks like the period should be a question mark. I'd agree that it would be "not an answer." It's hard to tell. I don't know what the first sentence is referring to (tl;dr).

@senderle I think you're correct, that is not an answer, but a new question. It's tough to tell that at a glance though, so it's quite possible that a moderator just made a mistake in declining the flag.
@animuson Hey. You watch it, Biebster.

4:03 AM
@jadarnel27: Actually, I've met someone who shares in my almighty Bieber interests!

@animuson I have met many middle-schoolers as well.
=D

Grrr I can't figure out what this "orange cube" thing the game is talking about...
And as usual the guides are poorly detailed and provide no further assistance.

Q: How do I find questions or answers that I've deleted?

RSolbergI deleted one of my questions and would like to un-delete it. How do I go about doing this? I think you shouldn't be prevented from seeing these posts, especially when they were your own. It should be more than me remembering the link or checking the browser history to easily look these up. I ...

Hey, look. That's tagged as [feature-request]. Weird.
You know. Because the bounty notice says it's not.
@yoda I was quite surprised when he actually went for that =)

@jadarnel27 heh, I should try this more often :P

4:17 AM
@yoda The greatest troll there ever was, you could be.

=)

thanks @jadarnel27, my paranoia is dispelled.

@senderle Haha, good to know. Rest easy. Continue flagging. FOR DEATH AND GLORY.
And now, I shall go and rest easy. It's 12:20am and I have to be at work at 8:00am. RAWR.

1 hour later…

Five people in the tavern? :o Noooo save me from the idlers!!!

5:37 AM
There are suspiciously few people in here...
What did you do with the others? o_o

@TimStone: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/130149/… - Do you know if the number of answers displayed in the lists is cached or not?
I've never heard of it being cached nor have I ever experienced a caching issue with the number being different from the actual.

The front page is cached for a period of like...two minutes I think (Marc?)
So you can see differences, sure.

Is that only the home page?

I'm not 100% positive. I believe so, but...

I always use the /questions page and I've never heard of it, so I'm assuming so...

6:03 AM
@TimStone For some reason MSO was inactivish yesterday and the day before

15 wafflevotes recieved today :)

Aaand @awoodland sneaks in, writes something, and deletes it. Classic.
:-P

12:41 PM
Any good data-hunter around?
I just wondered, 1) How many people do click the goo.gl/C1Kwu link, and 2) How many are question-banned and do not post the (n+1)st duplicate on meta?

@Moshe I was going to complain about something but then thought better of it

@Manishearth The small version of your gravatar kind of looks like a waffle.

you can get click stats from the shortened url
but that doesn't tell you how many people were meta users clicking the URL out of curiosity to find where it goes

I suspect most of those who ever clicked it are meta users.

I feel like I've seen that question before @Manishearth.
Found it.

1:31 PM
@jadarnel27 Decided to release my wafflevote-counter to the public :)
0
Q: Waffle vote counter

ManishearthIt is my firm belief that every +10 vote after reaching the repcap can be redeemed for free waffles. I often hit the cap on MSO, and I like to see how many waffles SE Inc owes me. So I have a bookmarklet that does the job--it adds up wafflevotes for every day on a page. javascript:$(".grid-re...

@jadarnel27 Which question?

@Manishearth Haha, what's wrong with you =P

@Manishearth The question-ban ban

@DanielFischer Yeah, it was dupe closed

@Manishearth What that unreliable person just said.

Though I edited it to undupe

1:34 PM
@jadarnel27 You're undermining my unreliabilty. I resemble that.

I think I may be having a heart attack. My XFS file system at home can't find a superblock, and I may have lost all of my data.

@Manishearth If it makes you feel any better, I knew there was a dupe and it was still hard for me to find the right search terms to get to it.

@jadarnel27 Oh, I always had it. Actually, I use the rep bar to see how well my posts are doing. Which can't be done in case of repcap. So I made that :P
Plus I'm bored
@jadarnel27 I've deserted the MSO searcher and I use Google, it finds stuff better

I have yet to hit the rep cap on any SE site. I've really got to step up my game.
2

@jadarnel27 I've hit it on Physics once
(sleepy community)
and on MSO some 17-odd times :P

1:38 PM
@jadarnel27 Too bad there's no chat rep. You'd repcap regularly here in the Tavern.

@Manishearth I think my highest day on SO was 110 or something like that.
I lose my motivation after I get a couple of upvoted answers. That's all the pats-on-the-back I need, apparently =)

@jadarnel27 On SO, mine is 105
307 on MSO :)
I just love posting on MSO, it's fun :)
Whereas SO gets boring
and Phy.SE runs out of stuff that (doesn't have a complete answer)&&(I can answer; within my limited expertise)

@DanielFischer Ha, that would be awesome =)

Physics my highest is 228
now has only 21.5 wafflevotes

That would look great on a Careers profile:
> jadarnel27 regularly talks way too damn much in the MSO Tavern, earning meaningless stars from his peers.

1:43 PM
> test
Ooh didn't know that existed!!!

@Manishearth As with other fun chat features, it only works on a line by itself. Just FYI.
@Manishearth How do you get half a vote?

status-ON_ONE_LINE
@jadarnel27 question votes
half a waffle

Ohhh. Gotcha. I didn't realize that the waffle-to-point exchange rate was 1:10.

Yep. Though sometimes you have to pay tax and forego the maple syrup
^.^

Does anyone in here every mess with computer hardware much (like, building / upgrading your own PC, etc)?

1:47 PM
Not me (would like to)

in The Bridge on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, Mar 28 at 14:47, by Tim Stone
@agent86 Nope, no performance issues that I've noticed. I have a Core i7-2600 with two Radeon HD 6950s in CrossFire and 16 GB of RAM, and I'm recording to a RAID 1 (while I wait for disk prices to come back down |:) of 750 GB WD Caviar Black drives. Windows 7 lives on a small 64 GB SSD.

So, that would be a "Yes, someone does."

That is an epic rig.

Q: Stackoverflow buttons not working for me

André NevesThe "add comment" and question voting buttons aren't working for me on both Firefox 11.0 and IE8. It's fixed now, and too localized anyway

My brother found out his PC would not run Diablo 3 without a new graphics card, so I decided to have a go at doing the upgrade myself (note: I've never done anything like that before).

1:54 PM
Should be (relatively) painless
Well, I suppose that depends actually. Where did the PC come from originally?

It's an HP from Best Buy. I agree, it should have been painless. But it was not =)

Oh boy. I take it you've gone ahead and done it then, hopefully everything worked out alright?

Mistake #1: I did not know I would need a bigger power supply for his PC to use the video card (he just had the stock PS and integrated graphics). So that's 2 trips to Best Buy on Saturday.
Mistake #2: I did not know you needed to specifically connect power to the card (I assumed it got power from the PCIe slot). In my great confidence, I had already reassembled the PCs case, so I had to take it apart again.

@jadarnel27 Shouldn't you have noticed that when you removed the original graphics card?
The fact that it didn't draw power from the PCI slot

It had integrated graphics, so there wasn't one.

1:59 PM
Ah, right

Yeah =)
Mistake #3: I did not notice that outputs from the new graphics card were completely different from the existing cable we had (he had VGA, we needed DVI). Trip to Radio Shack to purchase cable.

@jadarnel27 Radio Shack still sells things other than cell phones and RC cars? You must have gone to some special branch.

(insert about a half hour of googling here to figure out that I needed to make sure the PCI graphics card had priority over the integrated one in the BIOS).
@David Hahahaha, that's exactly what I thought =)
At this point I installed the drivers, and everything worked great. He played the Diablo 3 beta all weekend. THE END of my long story.

Good to know your story had a happy ending. My RAID drama today isn't looking quite so happy.

@David Oh, yeah. That really sucks man. So no luck so far?

2:04 PM
I've sent out some contacts to data recovery services for some ball-park quotes and options, but my own research isn't looking good.
I have a few things to try when I get home and have physical access to the box again.
But it's hard to swallow the possibility of losing 15 TB of data.

@theunhandledexception and anyone else who hijacks the chat inter-client communication (@TimStone?) -- the localStorage key for the message queue is renamed to chat:icc in the next build

@David No kidding. I hope that you can work things out. I don't even have that much data, and I'd hate to lose what I've got.

@balpha Thanks for the heads-up! I don't think we hook into that anywhere, but I'll check. :)

@jadarnel27 Going through the file system layout in my head, I can at least categorize what's backed up, what's replaceable, and what's just plain gone. So far the only things in the last category are home movies (very unfortunate) and document archives (somewhat unfortunate).

@TimStone Perhaps I should have asked you for the common pitfalls of graphics card installation before undergoing that =) Or even briefly Googled it. I literally just dove right in. My hubris is great.

2:10 PM
As long as you learned something and were able to pull through, no harm no foul right?

Very true. I did have a good time. My brother was cracking me up the entire time.

@balpha Devs helping the hackers. Cool :)

"I thought you worked with computers. Shouldn't you know this stuff?"

@jadarnel27 You know, there was a time when replacing a graphics card or building a PC in general was pretty straightforward. But my trip to PAX East recently showed me some rigs that demonstrate such times are now gone :)

@David Man. That does suck about the home movies.

2:12 PM
@jadarnel27 Hahah :D

@jadarnel27 That one cuts deep, ya. 4 years of HD video of my girls. Pre-school graduations, recitals, etc.

Oh, damn :/

@David Haha, no kidding. That sounds interesting. This was my first attempt ever, so I have nothing to compare it too.
=(
My brother also kept complaining about me touching the insides of the computer. He was convinced (for some reason) that you're not supposed to touch anything that looks like a "computer chip" with your bare hands.

pretty big change to the chat JS deployed -- so if you see anything weird happening, please blame (but more importantly, notify) me

2:22 PM
@jadarnel27 Are you there?
I need some help with music.

@YiJiangsProble_ not related, but weird nontheless. looking...

@jadarnel27 I'm prepping a presentation for this afternoon for my music class.

hm, something wonky with the stackauth site list
fixed now

2:29 PM
>Content
Your short lecture must include commentary on both musical and extra-musical aspects of the piece. Here are the aspects of the piece that you must address:

Required Musical Content:
1. Instrumentation (and the musical role each instrument plays)
2. Texture (monophonic, polyphonic, homophonic)
3. Tempo
4. Meter: duple or triple?
5. Form (be as specific as possible)

Required Extra-Musical Content:
1. Background information on the composer(s)/performer(s)
2. Year in which the piece was written
I'm doing the Vlatava section of this piece: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Moldau
I have no idea what the Texture, tempo, meter or form are.

And you presentation is today? Ah, I remember college now =D

@jadarnel27 I can present well, I just don't know what I'm saying
@jadarnel27 Can I email/skype you something?

@Moshe Sure man. My e-mail is in my "about me" section.
I don't know exactly how much help I can be before your presentation though. I am at work =)

@jadarnel27 True.
Got it.

Haha, 10-4.

A: Adding an extra column to a Grid view to show the selected items of a list box

Richard Dowsonwhat a noob question. you should know this.....

That's an answer, by the way =/
I should say "That's posted as an answer". Definitely not an answer.

2:38 PM
Flagged as low quality. Since it wouldn't be much better as a comment.

That's the first time I've seen an "answer" that was just an insult on SO.

Yea.
I just emailed you something.

I haven't gotten to cast an offensive flag in a while. So, that was fun. Or something.

@PopularDemand That was my first one.

Hmm, I keep getting extremely long page loads on the network.

2:48 PM
"Ohayou gozaimasu" <--- Does anyone know what that means? Or even what language it is?
Perhaps it's gibberish, I don't know.

I believe it's Japanese.
An informal version of hello?
I only know that from context; I don't actually speak Japanese.
(Some of my friends in high school who were really into anime would say that.)

Oh, cool. That makes sense. I got an e-mail from a friend this morning, and that was the subject line.
Thanks!

The Tavern: helping you solve your problems since
Um... come to think of it, have we ever done that before?

@PopularDemand If your problem is Which dev team member to blame?, we've been doing that since the beginning of time

2:53 PM
@YiJiangsProble_ I thinks it's hilarious that that's the first Google result. I didn't even try to Google it, I ran Google translate and it didn't match anything. FAIL.
Note to self: do not click on urban dictionary links at work.

Let's play a game, Google Translate, or Markov chain context free grammar?

And remember, the Wheel of Blame gets a much-needed day off today, as we're blaming balpha for everything until further notice.

@YiJiangsProble_ Wow. Just wow.

2:56 PM
@jadarnel27 You should also just not search for anything that might come up on UrbanDitionary from work. Like shogs.

Hahaha

@jadarnel27 - Did you receive my email?

@PopularDemand Harsh.
@Moshe Yeah, I'm giving that song a listen. Beautiful stuff.

@jadarnel27 It's... for your own good? To help you remember! Yeah, that's it.

Well said. Very convincing =)
What time is your presentation @Moshe?

3:05 PM
@jadarnel27 2:15PM Eastern

Ok. I'm going to see if I can wake my brother's slack ass up. He's better at stuff like this, honestly. Majored in music in college. I'll reply with what I know though.

@jadarnel27 Thanks. Also, didn't know you guys made an album. Gonna check it out.

Clever Google doodle today if you haven't seen it.

shakes fist at network latency

Also I feel like this question is a dupe, but I can't find the original.

3:08 PM

@jadarnel27 Wow, which one of you is singing?
Very very very solid.
Really.

@Moshe Ah, thanks a bunch man =) We both sing on the album, depending on the song I'm either singing melody or harmony.

Nice.

@PopularDemand That's one of the best ones I've seen in a while!
@TimStone That looks weird. Also, I'm not having any slowness with the SE sites =/

Hmm

3:13 PM
@TimStone you're clearly being targeted. Blame balpha. And stop complaining, it's just letting him know that he's identified your machine(s) correctly.

@jadarnel27 closes Facebook tab, leaves Tavern and Mail open. Starts putting things together.

@PopularDemand This question is marginally related, but I don't think it was the one you were thinking of...

No, I'm pretty sure there was once a suggestion of a new SE site that would only exist so that new and/or confused people could ask there instead of finding the right site and then have helpful community janitors migrate to the right place for them.

That sounds really familiar.

I wonder if it was deleted after A51 became off-topic.
Well, the "your error message is so bad I'm e-mailing your company to let them know you were hacked" question sounded really familiar too, and I still haven't found that.

3:28 PM
Haha, true.

Woo! I got my file system back!

Awesome! Glad to hear that

The RAID is still down a drive, so I'll need to re-build again. But that last re-build was where problems happened, so first I'm going to put together some kind of backup for the more critical data.

: 945154 I ordered an SSD the other night, should be here today.

@David Congrats, man. That's great!

3:44 PM
@jadarnel27 - What genre would you put that piece into?

@Moshe I have trouble with that term (genre). The piece is definitely in the Romantic style of composition. I don't know if that's really a genre, though.

@jadarnel27 Ok, thank you.

March 13th looks a little "odd" there :)

14 upvotes in ~40 seconds. I'm surprised that wasn't reversed.
Oh, it was.
Crazy, crazy Josh.

oh the reversal shows on the next day

4:07 PM
@jadarnel27 - Gladd I toyed with German a bit. slideshare.net/PraxisHS/die-moldau-aufbau-des-werkes
And googling for Die Moldau Instrumentierung brings up this:

Has anybody used a NAS RAID1 product that they've been happy with? Particularly one that supports multiple connection types (NFS, Samba, etc. instead of having to install some custom Windows-only nonsense)?

@David Sorry, not I.
SSD is here!
Can't install it until later though....
Have to finish this HW.
"Die streicher werden immer ruhiger"
> So studying a teensy bit of German from some books and some podcasts about a year ago is helping me research for my music presentation this afternoon. Toll!
@Pekka --^

4:39 PM
@David The only ones I've liked using were "linux on small devices" things

@awoodland One thing I'm definitely looking to avoid is having to hack or tweak a device. Maintaining my RAID is time-consuming enough, for a small backup appliance I'm going to want something that works out of the box (just like my Time Capsule for my Macs). :)

5:08 PM
This looks really old school:
Oh, that's from 2005. Classy.

5:29 PM
My inviting people to SO meetup strategy isn't working this year. Fools.

Detail this strategy, that we may point out your flaws (constructively, of course).

I say, hey, come to this thing, and provide a link.
Targeted at specific people.
I assumed the targeting specific people was what worked last time.
Maybe I'll have to, ugh, pick up a phone or something.

Are you targeting the same people you targeted last time? Because people tend to learn from their mistakes.

@PopularDemand That's probably it.
One programmer I invited who works with my wife told her "Stack Overflow people are so condescending. I don't think I can go to an event that nerdy."
So, apparently I have a worse chance of getting even one person to show up for a drink with me if I mention Stack Overflow than if I don't.

My area has about six people, but only one guy (besides myself) showed up. The bigger problem is that we just met at a bar for beers. It was fun the first time, but I don't want to do that again unless there's a talk or something.

5:35 PM
The other thing is that a year ago there were maybe 2 or 3 dev events in my city all year.
Now the guy who opened a co-working space last summer ensures the market is saturated with talks, etc. to go to.
This @PopularDemand guy is a smart cookie.

Ah. I did find out a while ago that there's a hackerspace in my town, but their website made them seem poorly organized and unwelcoming, and I haven't pursued that lead.
Looking at it again, I might have been too harsh the first time.

6:00 PM
Is there any benefit to getting a phone app for a service that also has a good mobile website?

Blame balpha? I'll blame Tim Stone and there's nothing you can do about it!

The cyborg is malfunctioning. I blame balpha.

That reminds me, I just recently gained review abilities on Meta. :o

What? You're well over 11k.

Yes, but you have to have made 80 edits to use the review tools.

6:10 PM
@PopularDemand "...people tend to learn from their mistakes." - [citation needed] =P

@jadarnel27 Very few people who come to The Tavern come back. Those who do rarely stick around for the long haul. See Diago, The Unhandled Exception, Aiden Bell, Chacha102, ircmaxell, Michael Mrozek, George Marian, Rebecca Chernoff, Fosco, Grace Note, Michael Petrotta, radp, jcolebrand, et al.

Touché. That's pretty convincing, actually. It's doesn't really count those of us that are currently here in a good light.

I'm just desperate for an audience which won't ban me.

6:26 PM
Spoken like a user who can't see chat flags.

When do people ever cast chat flags on meta?

Typically, whenever mootinator posts a new message.

@animuson I think I flagged one of your messages once because you were talking about Justin Bieber.

amazon.com/gp/forum/cd/discussion.html/… <-- Lol never have I ever heard a sleeveless shirt be called a "wife beater."

Feb 23 at 21:26, by jadarnel27
@animuson Flagged as offensive. No quoting Justin Bieber in the Tavern =P

@animuson Seriously? What do you call those shirts?

BoltClock showed up and dismissed my flag =)

The more politically correct term would be "spousal abusers"

Darnit Google! I do not enjoy you missing all my typing because you're trying to load a stupid zipper in the background!

RAWR, float in SQL Server does not convert to float in .NET; it converts to double.

6:51 PM
More importantly, who uses float at all?

@mootinator That's the question that came to my mind right after I had that problem; why on Earth did I make a float column in SQL Server?
S'wrong witme.

@jadarnel27 thanks. Presentation accomplished.
Danke.

I hope I was of some help. Did it go well?

7:08 PM
Went fairly well. Except professor didn't like when I compared Smetena's and Beethoven's deafnesses to iPod induced hearing loss.
@jadarnel You were, thanks. Never would have gotten the meter right.
Or half the other stuff

Grood =) Haha, that's an amusing pop culture comparison.

Yea, and then I played Hatikva at the end. I'm betting half the class hates me for that.
Many uni students tend to dislike Israel, so flaunting the anthem was probably stupid of me.

Hmmm. That seems rather closed-minded to dislike an entire country.
I dislike Canada because of @mootinator's Kermit gravatar.

Hah. Well, that's the irony of it.

7:23 PM
@jadarnel27 It's not easy being green. Speaking of which, that's why you're supposed to hate Canada. The eeeeevil "tar" "sands".

(@Lix, I played hatikva for my class. )

(Also, it's technically a Robin avatar.)

Kermit de frawg. Or, Kermit de bandit?

@mootinator I don't know what that means. But I'll take whatever reason to hate Canada you want to give me.

@jadarnel27 Impossible. Certain media outlets have assured me everyone hates Canada specifically because of that.

7:28 PM
I'm fatigued and I have to go drop a class now.
Dropity drop drop.
And my ssd arrived.

Hang on. Let me adjust my prejudices.
Ok, we're good.

Want to install it but I'm in class and I left my screwdriver at home.
Ssd. Check. Laptop. Check. Screwdriver? Nope.

@mootinator What, and you just blindly accept what the liber- wait, what pejorative adjective do you people use for the media? Liberal? Conservative? Tory? Quebecois?

@PopularDemand Hard to say, there are so many choices.
I think "the consensus media" is the latest perjorative to come out of Canada. I'd go with "lamestream media" but it's too Palin.

The "Bieber-ite media"

7:41 PM
Of course, if you Google "consensus media" the first result contains a frog pun, so on that basis it's the hands down winner.

We should sell Canada to you. You'd get to use "lamestream media"; nobody would have to look at US maps with areas that are non-contiguous despite being on the same continent; and we could grant statehood to Puerto Rico or DC without creating ugly new 51-star flags or causing the Senate to lose its nice round number of seats (100).

I wonder if Nebraska allows you to volunteer for jury duty. xP

Enough people live in Nebraska to fill out a jury?

People commit crimes in Nebraska?

Haha, you'd be surprised how many shootings there are in Northeast Omaha

7:52 PM
Did you know this about Canada? (He says before searching for something for 5 minutes)
Feh, can't find it.
Ostensibly, the point is, that if a politician or journalist wants something to sound eeeevil in Canada, they add "American style" before it.
Like the obvious dangers of a free, open, American style internet.

"The obvious dangers of an American style Barbecue" would make more sense.

Or the obvious dangers of an American style fluffy kitten.

@DanielFischer I would argue that "American style Barbecue" is far too broad and vague. Texas? Memphis? St. Louis? Carolina? The list goes on and on. Styles vary significantly.

Let's not forget about American-style low-yield explosive independence-commemorating devices.

American style national networks of well-maintained highways.

8:01 PM
@David Middle ground, Lincoln.

Lemons!

@mootinator "well-maintained"? Ha! I bet you still believe our highways are paved with actual gold.

Our highways here in Omaha are very well-maintained. In fact, they're so well-maintained that I don't think I've ever driven on one that hasn't had construction zone signs up.

@PopularDemand Depends a lot on where you live. I personally hate Pennsylvania highways. Massachusetts highways are tolerable if you know them. The New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway are actually very well done. etc.

@PopularDemand I'd ask that you respect that "well-maintained" is a relative term. ;)

8:04 PM
Okay, all joking aside, I am pretty happy with the highway system here.

The I-15 from Sweetgrass, MT to LA,CA,USA seemed well maintained for something going mostly through the middle of nowhere.

LA Los Angeles or LA Louisiana?
Retracted; I suppose a highway numbered 15 wouldn't go to Louisiana.

@mootinator: Don't most highways go through the middle of nowhere? I thought that was the point of a highway...

Montana highways were pretty standard, I just hated the people on them :)

@animuson There are varying levels of middle of nowhereness.

I genuinely feel bad when I see comments / questions like this one. The guy seems sincerely confused about what's going on.

Hallo, can someone give me a detailed overview of the changes between .NET 1 and 4. kthxbai.

@mootinator: We added 3. :)

What about the next one?
That one compiles in 11.
Hurr hurr.

@mootinator Yes, someone can: manning.com/skeet :)

Hahaha

8:10 PM
Meh, I reserve my sympathy for cases where people are harsh to someone who they assume is a help vampire but actually has dyslexia, alexia or some other medical handicap(s). Of course we rarely if ever find out that that's the case... I've actually thought about that several times lately but haven't come up with any kind of solution.

Very helpful comment @David.

@David Is that man on the cover a visual representation of himself?

@jadarnel27 I try. It's a huge pet peeve of mine when developers insist on trying to apply thick-client development practices to web development. I blame Web Forms, mostly, but I see people do that crap in PHP, too.
Example of such behavior:

Q: asp.net call javascript function from code behind

LoveI have to call the javascript from code behind. <script> $(document).ready(function () { $(document).click(function () { test(); }); }); function test() { \\ blah } The question is that there is no function name in the first part...

@PopularDemand I'd like to clarify that I don't feel bad that the question got closed, I feel bad for the poster because they are so clueless as how to learn a new technology. I don't know. It's weird I guess, I'm having trouble really explaining what I mean.

@jadarnel27 You need Justin Bieber lyrics.

8:15 PM
@David I definitely started off with that confusion, specifically because of Web Forms.
@David Haha, wow! That dude was flipping out.
I agree and accept, but those threads should also downvote for the fairness. We have the same subjects almost. — Love 24 hours ago

Key word: almost
feels confident in his ability to talk and yet contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation

@jadarnel27 Ya, he ended up focusing more on the down-votes of his question than on the actual problem he was trying to solve.

Right. I see people do that alot. Very counter-productive.
@PopularDemand I don't if there really is any solution to that problem, although I agree that it's really, really unfortunate.
Nice:

Ummm, why would someone post that?

Testing something, I suppose.

Testing what? How to ask a question? It's all lorem ipsum...

Well yeah. That's the text you use to test stuff.
