12:19 AM
Hi all
3 hours later…
3:48 AM
This room so boring today :<
y'all need some of this thai curry w/ beef 'n' peppers on top of a 1/3lb bacon & chuck burger covered in cheese. EDIBLE EXCITEMENT
Yes, we do. How do you plan on sharing that with us?
There's just enough for one left. So I propose a race: no rules of conduct, first one to make it here alive gets the burger. Unless I've eaten it by then.
It's ok, I can't eat that. Too rough.
My wisdom tooth is gone rogue at the moment and I can only eat soft things. Probably gonna have to get it pulled.
Oh, it's very soft. And juicy. AND EXTREMELY SPICY
4:01 AM
Spicy food is delicious food.
I wasn't going to drink this evening, but... MUST QUENCH THE FIRE
8 hours later…
11:55 AM
how on earth does stackoverflow.com/tools/flagged?subtype=possiblevandalism have an x2 next to it? Did community flag it twice?
12:49 PM
*Does anyone else know
1:05 PM
Ahh, that could be it.
1:54 PM
> +1 Just for the disclaimer with regard to Rebecca. I would pay reputation points to see her chase you with an axe. *Disclaimer: You also deserve another good answer badge. Not like you can ever have enough of those. – Diago 5h ago
All in favor of this say aye
2:26 PM
@jadarnel27 Liar!
@PopularDemand You are sneaky sir!
I meant to reject this tag wiki suggested edit, but instead hit approve:
Is that reversible?
Or if not, can I appeal for a couple people to reject it? :) - Reasons: the "blog type information" statement seemed awkward to me, and the markup kinda sucks.
2:48 PM
@RobHruska The content is plagerised. If you search for the first sentence using Google you'll find many results with the exact same words
Also, like you said, it's not particularly good information
3:14 PM
@YiJiangsProble_ You're in favour of arming her? Do you know how much further and faster we'd have to run? Are you mad?!
@TimStone Now now, it's possible that he only said that so he could be pleased by the lack of people saying aye. You should really be going after @jadarnel27, who is a liar anyhow.
I keep finding StackExchange relevant to my class's discussion of technology and social values. SE is awesome!
@PopularDemand Ah, of course, of course. He did pretend to be Josh too, didn't he?
@PopularDemand Introducing.... Annoying Three point Oh. Now with new and improved nuisances!
@TimStone I resemble those slanderous accusations!
3:26 PM
@TimStone Mad man woman with an axe? Sounds fantastic!
scratches haed
@TimStone With an axe?
Hopefully not.
Resent! I resent those...accusat - oh never mind.
3:43 PM
Q: What is the "reciprocity" of Stack Overflow?

MosheDuring yesterday's podcast, Joel mentioned the reciprocity ratio and also said that the sweet spot for successful sites is 14%. I'm curious to know what the rate is for Stack Overflow itself. Reciprocity is "What percentage of users both asked and answered?" Joel Spolsky SE Podcast #0...

How would you quantify reciprocity in terms of Facebook?
Likes? Wall Posts?
4:20 PM
What do you name a variable that contains something like "Mr.", "Mrs.", "Dr.", etc. Title?
Good. That is all the validation I need.
Also, I always field weird about naming a variable (or database column) that contains U.S. state names, "state".
Haha, always feel weird. Not field weird. WAKE UP JOSH.
Hrrrm so I came in here to ask a question, and checked the chat's description to see if the question would be on-topic for this chat room, and I have to say, I don't think it's Tim Stone's fault :)
I wanted to ask if it would be appropriate to ask on SO meta about another site's scope (P.SE), because the question involves outsider opinions on the site, and I think the responses I've been getting so far are insider opinions
@Rachel It might be. Don't question the wheel.
@Rachel Sure. I don't see any problem with that, though keep in mind it's mostly SO users on Meta, and they might not know as much about P.SE
4:36 PM
@Rachel It is almost always @TimStone's fault.
@YiJiangsProble Thanks. That sounds perfect then, because the key audience I want to target is people familiar with SE, but not necessarily our site
Q: Changing the FAQ to reflect the site's name

RachelA while back I made a suggestion to either rename the site to match the FAQ, or change the FAQ so it matches the site name to help clear up a lot of the confusion I see over what P.SE is for. That question was asked to see if this idea had any support, and I believe it does judging by the 25 upvo...

Do you think it would be appropriate to ask a question on MSO to draw attention to that question?
@jadarnel27 And I don't know, the name "waffles" sounds like a better scapegoat :)
@Rachel Oooo... poor Sam :P
5:14 PM
@Rachel I appreciate your willingness to believe that it wasn't my fault. Good call!
5:37 PM
Q: Request for programmer opinions about programmers.se site scope

RachelI have made a proposal on Programmers.SE meta about changing the FAQ so it matches the site name There are a bunch of suggestions there that I feel would help clarify the P.SE site scope, and I am looking to get opinions from regular users who might browse the site on occasion, but do not really...

That was pretty harsh.
@jadarnel27 Well... I thought she was going to ask an actual question, but she just posted a link to that proposal instead
6:34 PM
@YiJiangsProble_ Yeah, I guess going to SO chat and asking people to chime in might have been a better way to go about that. Or asking someone to pin a link to the meta post on programmer's in here.
Although, come to think of it, I'd hate to displace @JeremyBanks talking about Justin Bieber over there.
@jadarnel27 NamePrefix, title, egoBooster, formality, insanity, unnamed, x, y, or z.
@Moshe Wow. I think coming across a variable named unnamed would actually hurt my feelings.
6:57 PM
@jadarnel27 Ouch, sorry.
C++ class. sigh
Any of the other names work for you?
@Moshe I actually like NamePrefix and title about equally. Thanks for the additional option there!
I like how the person who made this post links to an exact duplicate from 6 months ago in the post, then labels it "Related" =)
7:21 PM
AHHH @@casperOne !!! stop deleting my perfectly good posts :-(
in PHP on Stack Overflow Chat, 8 mins ago, by Neal
A: How to organize a larger PHP project

NealYou should organize it very, very carefully.

@jadarnel27 yw
soo tired :-)
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA Is "You should organize it very, very carefully." the whole post?
@jadarnel27 - Approve edit please?
@jadarnel27 Yes. but it is a correct answer!
@Moshe Why not =)
7:24 PM
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA Haha, I can't tell if you're serious or not.
@Moshe np ^_^
@jadarnel27 I am serious. I take my time in organizing my files...
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA I'm sure you do. But that one sentence doesn't really give the OP any practical knowledge or help.
@jadarnel27 It was felt by the community that it was well enough
Although I'm surprised casperOne didn't just close the question. It seems pretty "not constructive"
7:29 PM
@jadarnel27 It is... well i marked it as localized.
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA How many up / down votes?
@jadarnel27 +6/-1
U cant see the deleted answer?
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA No, I'm not 10k on SO.
@jadarnel27 Haha oy..
7:50 PM
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA Really? I mean, really?
@jadarnel27 That's been fixed.
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA You wrote more in your flag on that answer than you did on the whole post.
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA Put that much effort into the answer on a question you should know better than to answer and I'm sure you'll do much better. =)
@casperOne I figured it would be fixed eventually =) No worries.
8:05 PM
Fixed-width text files for data make my eyes bleed.
They just reek of magic numbers.
@casperOne Oy... the community thought it was a good enough answer.
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA It was not a good enough answer. It was not an answer at all.
@jadarnel27 Then what was it? It answered the question. One should be very careful when organizing their code.
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA That's like going to a skydiving lesson, and having the instructor tell you "Be very careful when you jump out of this plane", and that's it. It's not helpful.
"One should be very careful" is completely subjective. It doesn't mean anything without further context. How is one careful about organizing PHP code?
Do you see what I mean?
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA You should know from all the meta drama that upvotes is not an indicator of quality.
8:18 PM
@jadarnel27 It is quite helpful. How should I know
@casperOne ehhh meta and main are different..
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA That's not the point. You know this as well. Upvotes on the main site are not an indicator of quality, period.
@casperOne On whose accord?
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA You haven't justified that statement at all. All you've done is repeated "It is helpful; it's a good answer". Justify it. Convince me. I'm willing to be open minded.
@jadarnel27 I am trying!
How would I organize my PHP project?
Very very carefully, making sure not to make anything go in the wrong place
making sure my code knows where everything is
8:23 PM
@casperOne See above^^
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA That's getting closer to an answer. But you see what I mean when I say that your answer doesn't really mean anything without further explanation beyond "be careful"?
If you had just elaborated on that thought, perhaps explain your thought process on how you organize your files, then that could be an answer.
@jadarnel27 ehhhh...
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA It doesn't seem like you're interested in having a constructive discussion about this.
@jadarnel27 Not entirely... my mind is in other places at the moment...
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA Cool, cool. I'm just trying to help you see the other side of this. Good luck with what you're working on.
8:31 PM
@jadarnel27 haha thanks.
8:44 PM
I'm trying to make a numbered list but it's getting on my nerves
It only knows "1." even when I changed them all to their appropriate numbers
They are all "1."
Um, seems it's a bug
Q: Bug in Numbered List on All (??) Sites

MartinI click Numbered List, and it shows me this: 1. List item Move the caret to the end of the line, hit enter and click Numbered List a second time, and I get this: 1. List item 1. 2. List item1. 1. Happens on this site, Startups, and Food. I am using Google Chrome (and yes, it is up to d...

what happened to that question and why is a NARQ flag still showing in the 10k queue?
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA 10K queue on SO is showing me a flag on a deleted question
8:53 PM
@awoodland should it not?
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA well I've never seen one before (that wasn't just a race) and I can't do anything useful with a NARQ flag on a deleted question, but the deleted question also isn't showing who deleted it
@awoodland hmmm odd...
Odd that I can still protect a deleted question....
it looks like there's something funky going on
even for self-deletes it normally says as much on the post
@awoodland To the meta meta!
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA yeah just grabbing screenshots and adding freehand red
8:58 PM
@awoodland yay! ^_^ remember the unicorns!
unicorns are way beyond my gimp skill level
@awoodland haha gimp? cmon - mspaint :-P
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA I'd have to boot windows or install wine for that :)
@awoodland hmmmm :-P
9:09 PM
Q: Flag on deleted question showing in 10K queue

awoodlandThere's something odd with this post that's current showing in the flag queue to 10K users. It's deleted but I'm still seeing the flag and given it was deleted two days ago it doesn't look like it's a case of the usual "deleted whilst I was reading" scenario. Furthermore the post itself shows...

my unicorn attempts looked more like cows with some horrible birth defect
@awoodland ehhh ill give you a 5/10 on the freehand red....
Art was never my strong suit and freehand red feels way too much like art to me
@awoodland lol more circles:
well, and lines :-P
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA I'll use that if it's ok :)
@awoodland haha sure :-P
I can draw more if needed :-P
@awoodland I think it has something to do with it being flagged before it was deleted, but the real question is: who deleted it??
9:17 PM
@amanaPlanaCAnalPAnaMA yeah and why didn't it clear the flag
@awoodland True. that is quite odd. it should have been closed as helpful flag
9:38 PM
@YiJiangsProble - meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/125421/… someone else reported the same thing earlier on chat but nobody else could reproduce it then.
1 hour later…
10:53 PM
Ahh - the usual suspects I see :P
@Lix that sounds a lot like how yoda would tell us he's watching a film :)
@aw - thats only because you were looking for it :P
11:35 PM
@Lix - You in Israel? (That's what your profile claims anyway.)
