It's satisfying to put the bounty mark on a not-accepted answer when the accepted answer is wrong.

Hullo
Awesome day, as usual, thank Gd.

...as in "YOU ALREADY NAMED AN OPERATING SYSTEM AFTER THAT ANIMAL" is all I could think after seeing the headline.

@JeremyBanksʬʬʬ Hah.

I calmed down a little after somebody pointed out Leopard -> Snow Leopard -> Lion -> Mountain Lion, which I managed to not notice.

3:53 AM
Hah, good.
I know.

@JeremyBanksʬʬʬ HA! All the broken UV links floating around meta, and that one survives. But... No Librarian badge, and no [subjective] tag!

@Shog9 :P It looks like all of the declined requests still exist, or something like that.

Waffles' post Stop paying your jQuery tax is currently #1 on Hacker News.

9:37 AM
when a question appears grayed out, is it a certain # of downvotes that causes this? for example: stackoverflow.com/a/4372/155407

9:52 AM
@ScottW the downvotes did that
I think it gets more grey, the more votes it gets

haha oh cool

@PekkasReputationBordello I love the way the sarcasm in that first comment was totally missed by the OP

haha cooking stack exchange

Quick question for SO folks. Is it normal for a flag to stay unhandled for ≥22 hours?

@slhck not unless it's a very tricky flag to handle

I flagged this as not constructive.

or it gets sent via the 10K queue

Should be quite obvious that it's a give me teh linkz to teh tutorialz question.

@slhck did it just get validated per chance?

11:45 AM
Oh, sorry, I flagged it as NARQ … regardless, no it stays waiting for review
@awoodland Do you mean there's a path where mods don't see flags at all, only 10k?

@slhck mods see the flag eventually I think, but it spends a while in front of 10K users first, I'm not 100% sure what the rules are on that though

@awoodland Ah, fair enough. I don't know how flag weight plays a role there.
Interestingly, another "not constructive" flag from 14 hours ago was marked helpful, but no action was taken on the question.

was it only just marked helpful? I voted when I saw it and I think a single vote is enough to validate a flag like that

@awoodland No, it wasn't … but maybe because I told you the wrong close reason, apologies for that.
That seems to have been the case for my other flag though. Automatically marked as helpful since someone voted to close it.

Is "even I am facing this problem" a literally translated idiom from some languge?

11:58 AM
@awoodland In German it could be "Auch ich habe dieses Problem"
The mistake is that in this case, "auch" ≠ "even".

@awoodland Uh, other than something along the lines of "me too!", no

@gnat You're replacing a 404 link with a... 404 link. At least for me
(gnat's probably not even ever been here right? :/)

@YiJiangsProble_ it just seems really odd in English, like almost arrogant, but comes up quite a lot and I'm sure it's not intended to be arrogant

12:32 PM
@PekkasReputationBordello - that info-graphic is awesome

Three Dell Dimension E5100 machines, sans hard drives, have come into my possession. Ideas for uses? I'm unsure what specs each has.

@Moshe donate to charity? (E.g. refurbished PCs for the needy)

A good idea.
I probably could find people directly in my community. Just need to get hard drives.
Since they're XP era machines, I'd be amused to see SSDs in these.

could just use thumbdrives or something with ubuntu live on them
that'd keep the cost down

True.

the other option is to turn them into some kind of automated regression testing/CI system for large opensource projects, but that'll hurt your electricity bill quite a lot I think

1:17 PM
@awoodland thanks!
@awoodland cool idea. It'd make a brilliant Web PC... which is enough for most people these days if the connection is decent.

1:51 PM
@PekkasReputationBordello It really does show your soul! And the attention to detail! Take the money bit. It's at the same time very realistic and unreal! It so clearly portrays the false hopes of making up real money off such programs, when you really only are going to net minuscule subfractions of a cent per click.
I couldn't not avoid to refrain not not not not to not not embed it in the answer.
I would've edited it further but...
Neighbors use MICROWAVE! It's SUPER EFFECTIVE!

@awoodland There are only two "gray settings," normal and grayed out. There's no such thing as "more gray/faded" or "less gray/faded" in this context.

hmm I thought there was an intermediate one but that might just be my mind ignoring downvoted answers then :)

I remember having this exact discussion before (though not with you) but not its exact time or location (chat vs. actual site).
In any case, we did the legwork that time.
@ScottW you may also be interested in the above message (or I may just be wasting your time, in which case, sorry).

Damn it mootinator!
I did not realize you were in here =)

lol

I walked right into that one.

It is known!

@badp thanks very much! Bringing that across was my intention half-consciously. :)

@mootinator You just wait. My revenge will be swift and...uh...decagonal!

Hello, honest businessman @PekkasReputationBordello. I can't help but notice that your advert includes the following: "Please inquire about our generous law enforcement discounts." What benefits can I, one of the first Deputies of Stack Overflow, expect to receive as part of this package?
6
Furthermore, what additional benefits would I qualify for, were I to secure a promotion to full Marshal?

@PopularDemand At our reputation bordello, we greatly value our law enforcement officials and the important job they fulfill in our society! (As long as they value the job we do, and are willing to turn a milky eye to when our job isn't completely in sync with the "law". The "law" is a living, breathing document anyway, right?) You can always expect free entry to our établissement, free drinks and no questions asked, Sir.

Ha, GEOCHET won Yearling yesterday. I guess the badge logic checks your display rep, not your "true" rep, if you're suspended. Interesting.

@PopularDemand Marshals get free entry and drinks in the upstairs, um... dressing rooms. You'll need to come by so I can explain to you in more detail.
@PopularDemand haha, cool

4:42 PM
@badp it's worth adding though that it was all triggered by your OMG click here! It was the inspiration for the entire opus

@JeremyBanksʬʬʬ Did they ever give any insight to what was supposedly so urgent about their request for said list? >_>

the fate of the universe must be hanging in the balance
it's a new account too, so presumably the old ones got nuked or question banned. I'm looking forward to the question on meta about this

@TimStone Maybe he's being hunted by a time-travelling robot and wants to know what he's up against?

Could be. I suppose I should have avoided the temptation to activate Skynet the other day.

Oops
It would be funny if Wikipedia ended up being the self-aware AI network that kills us all

7:03 PM
the wifi access point in one of our teaching labs is called skynet. I don't think the person who named it watches films like that

Heh :D

7:23 PM
@JeremyBanksʬʬʬ That is fan-freakin-tastic =)

@Chris Oh, wise guy, eh? Maybe I should introduce you to my main man, Edgar!

7:39 PM
EDGAR, the Electronic Data-Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system, performs automated collection, validation, indexing, acceptance, and forwarding of submissions by companies and others who are required by law to file forms with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC"). The database is freely available to the public via the Internet (Web or FTP). Filings Not all SEC filings by public companies are available on EDGAR. Companies were phased in to EDGAR filing over a three-year period, ending 6 May 1996. As of that date, all public domestic companies were required to subm...
