12:49 AM
Hello

1:22 AM
Indeed sir

Playing around with Mint

I'm testing out my new Harmony remote.

How do you like Mint so far?
I'm getting ready to start writing more code on my nodejs server
I have the first part working like I want, so that's awesome.

I like Mint
used it for a month
I need to add a few more chapters to a book

oh, how's that book coming along?

1:31 AM
good
I haven't gotten too much done, mainly getting others started
I have a few more things at school, then its more full steam ahead

I know that feeling

1:45 AM
just got finished waxing my car

Nice

Wil
2:02 AM
Very proud to post a picture - number 2 on Google Entry keywords to my blog!...

Wow, most of my MSO questions are considered nice questions.

@Wil nice!

2:34 AM
my number 1 is "design constraints"
followed by "levels of thinking"
turns out i'm like #8 on a google search for design constraints

Wil
3:00 AM
@TylerChacha I wish I was top on some good keywords, as it is, since I wrote the Pro SE / Anti EE post, my blog numbers went crazy and since then, I seem to rank high in random keywords when I write a new blog post!

I need to write more blog posts
Honestly, I just need to write more

3:23 AM
@Wil your site is down right now, right?

ohh went to ezpcltd.com

Wil
bloody hell... I have been working late all week (its coming up to 4:30 AM) First time in ages I am in this room and I was half asleep, you @'ed me and I thought I was going crazy with that star trek noise
@Trufa ahh... never updated it network wide :/ I am mainly just active on SU

@Wil Hi
@Wil Are you crazy yet?

Wil

hola
> For some bonkers reason, Sony sent us a product that is now discontinued. It isn't just the company's database security that's leaves room for improvement.

That reminds me of an email that I got the other day from them, about a sweepstakes.

That's from a roundup of DAB kitchen radio, on El Reg.

Like I would willingly give them more information at this point. :P

@TimStone And, that reminds me of the email I got from them about the SOE breach.
"Oh, yea. I think I tried Everquest 2 and was miffed about having to setup an account on SOE." =/

Ah, damn.

7:00 AM
@TimStone Heh. I ignore more sweepstakes. The point is to gather your info, no thanks.
*most even

Aye, same here.

hello

wel come @ManjotSingh

@Dharmendra i want to test shake on emulator
@Wanted my pleasure
@Dharmendra @Wanted missing u alot
@Wanted u know how to test shake on emulator

@GeorgeMarian Points to Firefox by the way. Granted, I am using dev channel, but I updated Chrome yesterday and now whenever I type certain characters followed by a period in the Inspector console, my tabs crash. My omnibox is now unacceptably sluggish after "improvements" to the matching logic. I don't think I've ever had an update quite that bad with Firefox, heh.
Hahah, the hell?

@Dharmendra do u have any idea of it

@ManjotSingh miss you too :)

@TimStone Fair enough. Minefield was rather stable when I used it. (Granted, that started around version b8, but still.)

@Dharmendra :)
@Dharmendra i want to test shake on android emulator
@Dharmendra do u have any idea of it

7:07 AM
@TimStone Like the article said, with the NFL lockout he must be bored. :)

@GeorgeMarian Yeah, instability is one thing, but breaking things that were working perfectly fine before kind of irks me.
It would seem so. :P
Radioactive symbol for "ignore this tag"?

I wanted a "No Entry" symbol, but apparently that's not very well-supported.

I'm open to other suggestions too

7:14 AM
@TimStone You mean the circle w/ a line through it, right?

Mhmm

Not a blockbuster crack, but still interesting and concerning.

Ah yeah, I saw that the other day. Damn language and its patterns, heh.

Oh, wait, I've broken Firebug too.
\o/
Good thing I don't depend on these tools functioning to do my job or anything...

7:26 AM
:)

good morning :)

@OctavianDamiean where i put this Q? So or Android Enthusiasts ?
"Can we test shake application on android emulator?"

@Wanted SO, it is programming related

@OctavianDamiean thnks

@OctavianDamiean hi how r you?

7:32 AM
meh ok I guess, woke up an hour ago :p

great

1
Q: Can we test shake application on android emulator?

WantedI have one demo application that plays music when user shakes his phone, can i test it on emulator?

@Wanted nothing will happen
@Wanted after some discussion people will close your question

well probably yes because it is a duplicate but not because it isn't a good question.

@Wanted i told you na dont post it people instead of giving you answer will try to teach how to post question

7:46 AM
no one teaches anyone anything right now, I just said that it will probably get closed because it is a duplicate, not sure what your point is (yet again)

i am not at all pointing anyone m just telling the fact...

@ManjotSingh From where I'm sitting, it seems that you're just trying to cause trouble.

@GeorgeMarian sorry if you think so then....

No need to apologize. You need to think about what I said.

@GeorgeMarian because that question was mine i was quite afraid of closing of question i got that question while googling but still fail get an answer as per my requirement then i ask @Wanted he told me that its quite interesting question then he post it on SO but still m getting same answer which i have got while searching
@GeorgeMarian same thing happen which i was thinking that is why i mention that question will close because of duplicacy....

7:52 AM
I'm not sure what you're trying to say. I have answered other people's questions by searching before.

well why would you deliberately post it as a duplicate then?

Also, so what if it's closed as a duplicate? If there happens to be a duplicate that he didn't notice when posting the question, it's no big deal.

i m not at all deluberately posting as a duplicate

1 min ago, by ManjotSingh
@GeorgeMarian same thing happen which i was thinking that is why i mention that question will close because of duplicacy....
then I didn't get this message

my requirement to test the shake detection which i then search on google an i got the same answer that @OctavianDamiean mention but my requirement is same

7:54 AM
@OctavianDamiean One possibly acceptable reason would be if the wording were different enough for the 2nd question to have value. But, even if it's closed there is no issue. There's a link to the other question and it could even be merged.

@ManjotSingh I don't see the point of your argument. Again, it seems to me that you're just trying to stir the pot.

@GeorgeMarian i did it in iphone simulator on mac by "shift+control+z" i want that shortcut for the android emulator thats it
@GeorgeMarian ok i quit then if you think so

@ManjotSingh Maybe a shortcut like that doesn't exist for the android emulator. Also, you can simply ask the question that way. "Is there a shortcut for this like there in the iPhone emulator?"

@GeorgeMarian hmm i agree
@GeorgeMarian so let see i post the question as you mention what will be the respnse then

7:59 AM
@ManjotSingh If there would be you'd probably find it here, developer.android.com/guide/developing/devices/emulator.html

Believe me, I understand your point of view. I tend to be argumentative as well. However, that tends to not work well with most people. So, we have to ease back on the rhetoric and be gentler in our tone.

to save you some time, there isn't

@GeorgeMarian sure my pleasure
@GeorgeMarian nice chatting with you
@GeorgeMarian are you also a software developer?

which technology??

8:02 AM
Mostly PHP, MySQL and some JavaScript these days.

thats great

I'm learning Python and do write the occasional script in Perl as well.

i feel dependancy in by these technologies
i start learning php
actually i am an iphone software developer

It's a good idea to branch out and at least try some other programming languages.

start with android 10 days before only

8:04 AM
ew, Python, thats great :)

n about to start blackberry development

@OctavianDamiean You don't like Python?

but there is one issue BB that they dont provide simulator for mac

@GeorgeMarian on the contrary I think I love it :)

Ah, ok. I thought the "ew" was a sound of displeasure.

8:06 AM
@GeorgeMarian i started with making webservices in php in JSON format
as i m new in android it takes whole time for learning

@ManjotSingh That's a good approach. JSON is a popular format for mobile data interchange.

@GeorgeMarian can i ask you one question

Heh. That's one. :P

@GeorgeMarian how would i become a one of the BEST SOFTWARE DEVELOPER?

8:07 AM
How?

i mean i still need a help of google and books
@OctavianDamiean whats that now?

Well, for one, give up on the idea of becoming the best. That's usually a recipe for disappointed.

you can't get better than Jon Skeet, he is a natural constant

Instead, focus on becoming the best that you can be.

8:09 AM
i m not compairing with anyone

To do that, you need to do a lot of reading, a lot of programming, a lot of exploration.

in general i want to become a successful software developer in my eyes

@ManjotSingh also being a good developer doesn't mean that you won't have to read books and use google, in fact that makes a good developer. Finding information and knowing how to apply it.

And, it also helps to learn about the "best" programmers. Find out what they do and try to emulate that.

i dont want to search n google anymore now

8:10 AM
You don't ever stop using google (or w/e search engine gives you good results).

no i think if there would be no google one day then where would i stand!

You can't possibly know all the solutions. The Internet is a good source of ideas and information. (That's kind of the point of it.)
@ManjotSingh In a library reading books.

like if there would be no google or internet

then there would still be Stack Overflow :)

@GeorgeMarian i told you na i read many books but still lot to learn
@LoïcWolff :)

8:12 AM
also before there was Google there were libraries like Geroge mentioned :)

@LoïcWolff m saying if there would no internet then

@ManjotSingh That will never change. In fact, the more you know, the more you can appreciate just how much you don't know.
3

oh how true :D

i know that thats why i ask you that

@OctavianDamiean Well, there was AltaVista, but yah before that libraries were popular. :)

8:14 AM
yea, you know what I meant :D

I was waiting for someone to mention Usenet. :)

@GeorgeMarian is it a search engine?

Yeah, it was the king of search engines, back in the day.

i havent heard about it AltaVista

Though, back then, there wasn't one clear leader like Google. So, we'd typical use a few different search engines.

8:15 AM
Lycos and Yahoo were quite big as well

Yup.
@ManjotSingh altavista.com

@GeorgeMarian i m seeing same

AltaVista is a web search engine owned by Yahoo!. AltaVista was once one of the most popular search engines but its popularity declined with the rise of Google. In 2010, Yahoo! announced that it plans to discontinue the site. Origins AltaVista was created by researchers at Digital Equipment Corporation's Western Research Laboratory who were trying to provide services to make finding files on the public network easier. Although there is some dispute about who was responsible for the original idea, two key participants were Louis Monier, who wrote the crawler, and Michael Burrows, who w...

@GeorgeMarian n what about baidu

@ManjotSingh What about it? There isn't much sense in me using a Chinese search engine. :)

8:18 AM
that is a rather young search engine compared to Lycos and Yahoo for example

@GeorgeMarian but i heard that baidu is better than google :)

Ironically enough, I recently noticed their search bot in my web logs. lol
@ManjotSingh I think the comparison is that Baidu filled the void when Google pulled out of China.

@GeorgeMarian i came to know that baidu closed by some reason i dont know much about because of it many software developer lost their concious in china..lol
@GeorgeMarian thats why i was thinking if there would be no google or internet then how would i servive in market

Yes that is same question i repeated, my mistake

@ManjotSingh Books, magazines and user groups.

8:22 AM
there's no way you can remember everything you're working with
if you're afraid, download their documentation for offline use

@LoïcWolff then what is the meaing of experience then
@LoïcWolff :)

@LoïcWolff Yeah. Lots of people, myself included, have to look up the switch/case syntax regularly.

Should i vote to close my own Q?

@GeorgeMarian i know but i cant mug up all the books n magazines

experience is when you see a bunch of code related to what you want to do (in the documentation...), and think "hey that's pretty much what I want to do, now I'll adapt it"

8:23 AM
@ManjotSingh Knowing ways to solve certain types of problems, based on your experience.

@Wanted as your wish

@ManjotSingh experience is knowing how to apply something you find in books on a specific problem you have, not only but one example of it

@ManjotSingh you got solution?

Or at least, knowing ways to approach certain problems.

@Wanted no not yet

8:25 AM
@Wanted let the community decide. no harm letting it there.

tell me one thing have we ever think about how to eat?

@ManjotSingh that is something fundamentally different

its in our regular routine we eat...so we need not to refer any documentation or google

@ManjotSingh If that were true, cooking and food shows wouldn't be so popular.

as George lots of coding or lots reading will make things in regular

8:26 AM
that's because there's one way to eat, there's no objective-c eating method, then Java, then through JSON, or RPC call or whatever

Regardless, we don't think about breathing either. But, that's not the same thing as performing some work or a craft.

like my mom dont think to make some dish but when i make some dish i usually refer documents

That doesn't mean that she doesn't forget recipes that she hasn't used in a while.
Things like this can never be as automatic as breathing.

yeah, and she just glance at the recipe, remember and start cooking

@GeorgeMarian might be she follow for the new dishes but not for the regular dishes
@LoïcWolff no not at all

8:29 AM
Your point? It's the same with programming.
The things you do regularly, you remember easily.

you can't compare apples with pears

i am not at all comparing apple with peers

@OctavianDamiean cooking, apples , pears... now you're making me hungry

@LoïcWolff me too:)

gosh me too :D

8:30 AM
@GeorgeMarian i mean that even though we need to see syntax

I have just finished my lunch

@GeorgeMarian i am not talking about you i mean i need to see the syntax
@Wanted LOLZ AT MAX
m hungry now

@ManjotSingh I don't understand the point you're trying to make.

@GeorgeMarian leave it was just fun
@GeorgeMarian i was thinking about it i just share here
@GeorgeMarian practice makes man perfect i got a lesson while chatting with you all
@GeorgeMarian my mom has practice everyday

just a tiny tiny thing, dont use multiple @someome
it annoys the hell out of him (and pretty much everyone else)

8:33 AM
@GeorgeMarian she is expert thats it i m not because it dint practice daily

damn where is the meta is serious business picture now? :D

@ManjotSingh Nothing wrong with that. I'm just trying to provide you with insight on how other programmers approach their craft.

use just one to get his attention then say what you want

Precisely.

8:34 AM
how they do i know but how to reach their i dont know

Or, if you're replying to something that was said a bit earlier and it wouldn't be obvious what you're replying to.

i dint get you george

However, if it's obvious enough from what you're saying, there may be no point in referencing a specific post.

i told you na i was just thinking how to become best...

by practicing as you already said ;)

8:37 AM
n i was searching that there would be any person who is best here

@ManjotSingh Right. And, I was providing you with insight into that from the perspective of another programmer. I'm not sure what the mixup is.

It's impossible to determine who is "best."

there is no best person (other than Jon Skeet of course) :D

There are some obvious people that stand out, for example Jon Skeet.
@OctavianDamiean LOL He's a machine. He doesn't count. ;)

8:39 AM
no who is Jon Skeet now?

You have much to learn, young padwan.

Q: Jon Skeet Facts?

Bill the Lizard This question exists because it has historical significance, but it is not considered a good, on-topic question for this site, so please do not use it as evidence that you can ask similar questions here. More info: http://meta.stackoverflow.com/faq I'm looking for Chuck Norris...

LOLZ

8:40 AM
The man has badge on language he doesn't even use

amazing

great

that't when you know you're good. just read a bit of the documentation, apply to something you already did in another language and boom.

i usually read about Mr.Steve Jobs only

8:42 AM
well he is just a mascot

Programming is a state of mind, the rest is just syntax.

Steve Jobs has a Jon Skeet pajama.

i dont think so there would be anyone like him
LOLz
i think Json Skeet is not a moderator
is he above then Jeff Atwood?

8:44 AM
no it is not about being above

@ManjotSingh He's just user of the site. He doesn't work for the company.

nope, not a moderator. just a guy who is using the site a lot.

He has authored some books on C#, I believe and I'd assume that he speaks at conferences and such.

yup
and he works at Google as far as I know

8:45 AM
@GeorgeMarian where are you from?
OMGOMGOMG

@ManjotSingh I'm from an Eastern European country, but I live in the US.

@GeorgeMarian so I was right thinking from where you come :)

@GeorgeMarian which country?

@OctavianDamiean I guess so. I'm sure what you were thinking. :) (Unless we've spoken about it and I've forgotten.)

@OctavianDamiean n where are you from?

8:47 AM
er..*not sure

I'm living in Austria

on which technology other then Android

@OctavianDamiean I want to be Jon skeet

@Wanted lolz

ouh interesting I'm getting downvoted on SO for no reason

8:54 AM
@OctavianDamiean where?

@Wanted i like the way he answer :)
@Wanted he is making fun of you...LOLZ

who is making fun of whom?

m not talking about you

I'm asking not accusing you lol

@Wanted where are you from?

9:01 AM
You are asking me third time.... :) Ahmadabad, Gujarat

@ManjotSingh nope but it sounds interesting

9:06 AM
@Wanted was it spicy?
@OctavianDamiean if you will come to India then its my responsibility to provide all punjabi spicy food

@ManjotSingh yes with shimla mirch

I'm googling for pictures :p

@ManjotSingh lucky guy my mom is very far from here ... :)

rice is very popular and parsley potatoes too in combination with the Schnitzel of course

is it veg or nonveg dish

9:10 AM
@ManjotSingh nonveg

lolz
m pure vegetarian
any veg dish you know or famous their

@OctavianDamiean i am to pure veg

I'm trying to think of one but not being a vegetarian is not helpful with coming up with something :)

@OctavianDamiean boozing or fagging

I can't really think of a traditional vegetarian dish to be honest but I'm sure there is one

9:15 AM
i m feeling hungry now while seeing pictures of Wienerschnitzel
@OctavianDamiean oh god, you made me want to get up and eat something, hope you're happy now :p
