Q: How do I install a userscript?

Moshe What are the steps to install a userscript for any of the major browsers? This question is for the benefit of those trying to get the minimal theme working. One browser per answer please.

Please post that as an answer then?

I'm not registered at SuperUser.

Meh. I need answers there.

1:48 AM
Why?

I posted that on physics. People were whining about it being complicated. It's a valid question on SU.
I'm curious to know if Jeff knew that he was going to use it for mobile initially.

Well, there's nothing stopping you from going back and editing the link to point to the tag wiki instead. shrugs

Time. I'm occupied now. I'm on iOS. Three things stopping me.
And it is a valid question.

You had time to post that question and then come in here and link it. I'm not particularly swayed by that argument. The fact remains that the tag wiki is an existing resource that has a better chance of being properly maintained than a handful of answers on a SuperUser question.

I'll post it then...
Also, Apple Town hall Chat about to begin
@Moshe done.

1:59 AM
@TheRenamedException Woah, those are block quotes on SU?

@TimStone those are

@TheRenamedException Huh, quite the bold line going on there. I clearly don't spend enough time looking at stuff over there, heheh.

3:37 AM
is rewriting calendar code

3:55 AM
@Moshe I'm sure you're having a blast. ;)

@GeorgeMarian I'm pretty sure he's doing it wrong

LOL
I was going to say he should probably be using a library.

@GeorgeMarian that's what I'm thinking
let's not spoil his fun tho
let's let him do it his way ;)

He's gotta learn some way. :)

(and yes @Moshe I'm sure it's the calendar code for your one app that takes a lot of custom logic and not really a calendar like we would all associate as a calendar)
@GeorgeMarian egads, can you teach my coworkers?

3:58 AM
@drachenstern I could try, but some people are beyond reach. ;)

anyone here on OSX atm? I have an interface question that's easier to ask how to ask than to just ask

@GeorgeMarian See the NSCalendar class. It's makes things easier, I just don't know which methods I need.

@Moshe Mmm...Objective-C. I've heard lots of bad things about it.

4:20 AM
I played with it for a while, 15 or so years back... Liked it a lot. Much nicer than C++. But... I didn't have a NeXT box.
And now... I don't have a Mac.
Bothering with a language that requires you to switch to a different platform just to be useful always seemed a bit pointless.

user157982
Hm, Objective-C isn't so bad

@drach I'm on OS now (on iOS for chat though)

@Shog9 Yeah. That's one thing the seriously disappoints me about the iPhone. What, I have to have a Mac to create albums on my phone?

user157982
It's no good if you want performance in my opinion, but it's pretty pleasant

@Moshe already got it answered. Waiting 30 minutes to answer a question on chat is too long

4:23 AM
Heh, with a name like @nil, it'd sum up your views pretty succinctly.
Heh. @drach. Btw iOS has a built in library which I'm using.

user157982
Well, my name is Noel

user157982
So I just shortened it

Heh

@Moshe well that's what you're supposed to do

@nil And squished the 'e.' You meanie. ;)

4:25 AM
From my experiences, I can't stand Objective-C. To be fair though, I haven't used it that much, so I'm willing to believe that I just haven't messed around enough with it to get a full appreciation.

user157982
That vowel had it coming.

@George h squishd th "e" h's just a mani.

user157982
@TimStone It's a matter of personal preference, so I think it's perfectly reasonable to not like it

favorite part of ObjC: dynamic types via id

user157982
4:26 AM
I just like messaging

@TimStone I think most of the complaints I've seen centered around the fact that it's yet another C/C++ and required a new way of thinking about it.

I like ObjC but you should see the negative effect it had on my JavaScript coding. longVerboseAndExcessiveMethodNamesWith:(id) arguments Like:(id) this

user157982
Heh

user157982
You have to strike a balance between being descriptive and verbose

user157982
4:28 AM
And for most people, or at least in my case, that's pretty hard

It's News hour with @GeorgMarian!
@nil yep.

user157982
Apple screws it up pretty often too.

Yeah, I know. It's nothing to do w/ Objective-C, but it's a decent article about node.js.

user157982
Just look at tableview stuff

@Moshe the lack of namespacing (or rather, the "namespace via huge honkin' identifiers" idiom) is a downside

4:29 AM
@Moshe Hehe. Just keeping my peeps informed. :)

@nil Start with one character. Then add more, typing one-handed, while using your other hand to punch yourself in the face. Stop when sufficiently descriptive.

@GeorgeMarian Hm, and that might have been my issue with it. "Oh, so we're doing C++, if C++ was drowned in a sea of square brackets." Admittedly not a good criteria for determining the usefulness of a language, heh. :P

@TimStone LOL

user157982
@Shog9 The problem is that it rapidly becomes unpleasant

Speaking of brackets, remembering which bracket is for what type of data structure in Python took some work. :)

4:32 AM
@nil That's the idea. Exhaustively descriptive identifiers are mostly just exhausting... Like character names in a fantasy novel.

Okay. So I am confused. I need to get this worked out. I need a Hebrew NSDate from a Gregorian date.
@Nil any idea how to do that?

Problems that aren't really problems:

Q: Cooking makes my clothes smell.

z-bossSo I have to change my clothes after cooking. It is especially noticeable when I fry something: onions, meats etc. How do you deal with this problem?

user157982
@Moshe I haven't the faintest idea

Tagged clothing? I say off topic
@nil ok.

user157982
4:34 AM
I've never had to change my clothing after cooking O_o

user157982
Maybe it's a bachelor thing...

You aren't cooking EXTREMELY enough, apparently.

I have frequently. Might be because I go to bed after eating dinner, tho.

user157982
Extreme cooking? Is that like wrestling a bear while cooking eggs?

Bedtime. I'll deal with it tomorrow. Not urgent. I am building several apps simultaneously. Hebrew dates are important to several of em.

4:35 AM
Total pro flavour infusion!

user157982
I'd be curious to know how hebrew dates factor into anything modern O_o

@Nil. - well it ain't cooking bear while wrestling eggs.
If anyone hasn't gotten sick of this: Nippon is free for a another day. In honor of anticipated iPad update.

user157982
Nippon?

user157982
So do I get tickets to Japan for free or something?

@nil re hebrew dates: Jewish Religion, maybe? Re Nippon, iTunes.com/apps/nippon

4:38 AM
@nil you're new here huh?

@nil He should definitely make that a promotion.

user157982
@drachenstern Indeedy

(I'm on iOS. Don't mind the slow responses.)

user157982
@Moshe Are you making a Torah browser or something? O_o

@nil ;) it shows

user157982
4:39 AM
I don't know how that stuff works, so eh

@nil no. That doesn't have to do with Hebrew dates.

user157982
El-shruggo then

Orthodox Jews pray three times daily. Prayers times are based on sunrise and sunset. The contents of the prayers change slightly seasonally.

Hebrew dates: hebrewdating.com

I'm making an app related to that.
@drach, hehe, sure does show.

user157982
4:41 AM
I am signing up.

@Shog9 er, not quite
If it was Hebrew NSDating, perhaps

(mmm... dates...)

No. Curious where you found that.

Googling hebrew dates

user157982
I wonder if those dates taste good

4:43 AM
@Shog9 shhh don't tell him all the secrets!

I've also found what appears to be an H.R. Geiger tattoo, if you're looking for something completely different
aaaand just remembered that I'm still logged in through VPN. Great.

user157982
A Geiger tattoo is the only tattoo that will justifiably look scarier as you age and deform.

@Shog9 yeah I always hate when I realize that

Hrm. Stay here and be subject to jokes about my coding and potentially worse, or get to sleep...
is too tired for this
Night.

'nite @Moshe - sleep well, in whatever timescale you choose

Is something happening with Ubuntu and Shuttlesworth?
Something about Banshee?

Banshee had a connection to the Amazon Store, which competed with the Ubuntu One music store, and Canonical said "Disable the Amazon Store connection by default, or we want 75% off the top of purchases made through it", I think.

Interesting

In short: They pulled an Apple.

I see this

I love watching Pawn Stars and something gets evaluated by the expert and the people hear the top dollar at auction valuation and think that's what they're going to get ... they have no idea what overhead means do they?

They didn't think that far ahead ;)

If I had something like that and they said "at auction this would go for 10-15k" I would ask for 3k for my item. And I'ld probably get it.
"I don't know why I bought this" -> "this was a great purchase and I'm glad I made it"

Did you see the one with the two target pistols?
The owner only wanted $1000 and the pawn store guy said it'd be worth more and he would feel bad only giving him $1000

Nah I didn't

Heh, you know you're low balling the price when people feel bad giving you the value you quoted.

5:41 AM
I hate that half of these reality shows aren't real, though :/
Repo Men, Storage Wars, etc... they're just actors doing fake repos/auctions
Pawn Stars is nothing like a normal pawn shop, at least the shop really exists

Hahah

@DanGrossman hahaha

@TimStone it's pretty hard, because you have to come up with something that will make sense on all sites, not scare away new users, and not stop people getting on with the normal business of the site

I had a dream that I was watching a documentary on Steve Ballmer starring Larry David.

...Huh. :P

It was actually good .. Larry David reenacting the "Developers Developers Developers Developers" performance
Someone should make a documentary of Steve Ballmer starring Larry David.
and I need to not watch youtube before going to bed, or anything starring Larry David

@TimStone, you may now mock my attempt at humour... :)

Hahah, for that last point, +1 :P

That would go down really well on math.se :)

Can you imagine the day after?

Actually, I seriously think any april fool thing shouldn't be implemented on math.se

@MichaelPetrotta Add you status request here: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/81173/…

@Benjo: why?

@TimStone Have you gone past 500 now?

@Tim: 32 vote-to-close, or 32 mod?

@MichaelPetrotta mod

@MichaelPetrotta A new 'nuke' button, complete with animation, would be cathartic, even if it didn't change anything :)

Wow. Snark wins, I guess.

@Benjo: agree.

How did that slip through the cracks ...? hmmm

Thanks, Tim.

Epic fail on our part. That should have been gone 15 seconds after posting. SO - you are slacking!

@Tim: out of curiosity, as a mod, do you have a limited... arsenal... of close votes?

@MichaelPetrotta I don't really 'have' votes anymore when it comes to that
My votes are now 'supervotes'

Ok, I feel a little better now. That's how these questions *should* be handled.

@MichaelPetrotta what can I say; I'm grouchy in the morning ;p

@MarcGravell grouchy but not lacking in humour :)

Heh, I came across a non-answer from the OP that basically said "I don't get it, I'm giving up," followed by some teacher blaming or something. :P

@Marc: appreciated. Grouchiness is useful if directed well.

@TimStone I like that idea
"Don't blame me for being ill prepared by my comp-sci teacher!"
I think I'll use that :)

Hmm, where's Yi Jiang when I need someone to tell me why my interpretation of JavaScript is wrong?

I'd be happy to tell you you're wrong...

Key word being why :P

@Rebecca: well, we knew that already.

Though maybe it's something obvious that I'm too tired to consider.
If I have function myFunction(param) { var param = ..., param will always be undefined in any anonymous functions inside of myFunction
But if I do var anotherName this isn't the case.
I don't get what the difference is just because they have the same name.
Ah, I see.
go go SO

@Rebecca there?
@Rebecca if/when you read this: i am waiting for github comments.

Here's some pics of my DC in Chicago, and what happens to a Honda Civic when you load over 40 1U rack mount servers in it:

I hope you don't take this the wrong way @Tim, but they've made wonderful progress in camera technology in the last few years...

@MichaelPetrotta Most DC's forbid 'real' cameras
those were off the hip iphone shots

@TimPost Yay Civic
Pretty nifty

He called me and said "I got over 50 1U servers in my civic" .. my first response was "What the heck did you do, FOLD THEM?"

@TimPost, so the data center is in the truck? :)

7:25 AM
@Benjol One is. We just closed what we had in NC and moved it over to Chicago
Those pics are mostly dev servers, minus most of the switches

Wow, could do with some of that nouse here where I work. They can't even get the web site dns to work without the www :(

@Benjol just send an e-mail saying something about ROI, SEO and AFLAC
it'll get fixed :)

@TimPost, I did consider sending a mail to the director saying "HELP! The website has stopped working" with the www-less url :)

Management is a funny thing - they never question acronyms that they never heard of, nobody wants to be the one who 'didn't know' what it meant.
Heck, toss in DDOSOIOC - I doubt anyone in management is old enough to remember that.

You can play some funny games that way.
So, the TLSR popped a real FLA last night, and I think we'll need to TANSTAAFL now.

7:31 AM
@MichaelPetrotta Response from management: "Do you think that's responsible at this point?"
You see, as long as managers appear to be questioning you in front of others, you get what you want :)

There are of course exceptions, but few.
@MichaelPetrotta Or the typical "clue me in without knowing" response:
@MichaelPetrotta "HOW will that actually help to accelerate our end game?"
Then you must explain the concept to said manager, while justifying it.

That just begs for more TLA bull.

I think I'm rare, I'm one of the few CTOs that actually write code.

You can add @TheRenamedException and I to that short list. ;)

7:34 AM
Though honestly, I gain more credibility by being one of the few that can explain concepts clearly, with small words.

One day I woke up, my house was spinning in a tornado, I saw some lady on a bike while looking out my window, and now I'm CTO. Someone pass me a pair of red glimmering slippers?

7:43 AM
Three hours ago. Was that you? Never asked his name.

@TimStone hand me the flashy thing, we have another one

@TimPost: Hi, I have a question to you

Hi Sankar

@SankarGanesh are you familiar with the game called 'golf' ?

7:46 AM
@TimPost In that my name was listed, i donot know why, soory no idea about golf mate

@SankarGanesh It is because you advanced in your reputation score significantly enough for an algorithm to decide that you should be listed
Leaderboard is a series of golf simulation video games that was developed by Bruce and Roger Carver, and published by Access Software. Leaderboard, the first game in the series, was released in 1986 and included four different water-based courses. It was well received, being rated as 97% overall by Zzap 64 magazine and being prized with their "Gold Award". It was also highly rated by other magazines, with Your Sinclair rating it 9 out of 10, Sinclair User giving it five stars, and Crash rating it 80%. Leaderboard Tournament, released the same year, was a series of expansion disks each...

@TimPost #1240 quarter rank -297 change 2,863 total reputation 1,039 quarter reputation, am i not able to get this mate, pls explain these foileds, i was confused why -297

@SankarGanesh Perhaps something you asked recently received a lot of views?
@SankarGanesh the -297 means you dropped actually. I'm not at all familiar with how the selection process on stackexchange works.
It looks like the recent global reputation re-calculation was quite unkind to you, though

@Sankar: reputation was recently recalculated. Votes from deleted questions and answers, and votes from deleted users, were removed. I lost almost 200 points myself - it happened to lots of folks.

@TimPost Well, i was shocked why i got -297, whether i did anything wrong, like that

7:51 AM
Look to meta.stackoverflow.com for many, many similar reports.

@MichaelPetrotta so can you explain what fields these fileds do #1240 quarter rank -297 change 2,863 total reputation 1,039 quarter reputation

@SankarGanesh Don't assume your self as the culprit :) I think it is due to your reputation dropping significantly due to the global re-calculation.

@Sankar, you will get by better in life if you refrain from calling us mate, mate :)

In april you will be able to cash in your rep points

What's wrong with "mate"? genuine question

7:52 AM
@SankarGanesh You probably provided some answers that were up-voted many times and later deleted as questions were closed and deleted

@Reno how it is possible in april

@Benjo: might there be a particular date in April? Maybe, very early in the month?

@MichaelPetrotta It's not wrong, just sounds overly familiar for an essentially anonymous chat. Though that may be a cultural thing.
@MichaelPetrotta, you meant @Sankar, I think

@Benjol I don't find colloquialisms from other countries inordinately out of taste.

No, I meant @Benjol. Not important, though.

7:55 AM
@MichaelPetrotta #1240 quarter rank what is this rank denotes, whether it denotes i had yielded 1240 rank out of serveral stack users, am i right or wrong

'mate' is a neat word. If said for the first time, it's an offer of friendship

@TimPost OK, I'm just anal then :) (I have another thing about non-capitalised i)

@Sankar: I'm the wrong person to ask.

@MichaelPetrotta oh sorry
any guys tell me #1240 quarter rank what is this rank denotes, whether it denotes i had yielded 1240 rank out of serveral stack users, am i right or wrong

@Sankar I can't help but notice your last name, which is Ganesh
Remover of obstacles :)

7:58 AM
@TimPost yes, am i first name is sankar and last name is ganesh
@badpssockpuppet: Hi, I have a question to you

@Sankar Don't put much thought into collected data that is presented in various ways, just continue to be helpful. You did nothing wrong, the system 'in general' is just updating to remove votes from questions that were obliterated

If I want to passively-aggressively annoy someone, I'll call them "boss" or "buddy".
or "champ"

@MichaelPetrotta Hey lad.
@SankarGanesh Shoot.

@TimPost Hmm, Sure

@MichaelPetrotta Here you address a guard, police officer or waiter as 'boss'

7:59 AM
@MichaelPetrotta or "ducky", "darling", or "love"? :)

kid, or sir or ladies for a group

I would like to call as Mate,

"ducky" files away for later

@SankarGanesh Really, don't think twice about it. Once in a while, Stack Exchange re-calculates the reputation score of everyone and a few odd things happen.
@SankarGanesh It is software, after all :)

@badpssockpuppet Actually my name is listed here, i was confused why my name is listed her, but @TimPost clears that, in a nice manner

8:01 AM
@SankarGanesh I'm happy I could help set your mind at ease on the matter.

@TimPost yes, you are absolutely right, i will do myself keep rockingto helping people

Masters of the Universe (commonly abbreviated to MOTU; and sometimes informally referred to as He-Man, after the lead hero) is a media franchise created by Mattel. Although featuring a vast line-up of characters, the main premise revolves around the heroic characters of He-Man and evil Skeletor on planet Eternia. Since its initial launch late 1981, the franchise has spawned a variety of products, including six lines of action figures, four animated television series, countless comic series and a film. Designer Roger Sweet claims to be the chief creator of He-Man and MOTU, although th...

@TimPost Goodness, that's very old is it? :)
@Reno Reno, add that as a suggestion, I like it :)

:( im not old if i know my he-man stuff ... i hope so
@Benjol yup :)

@Benjol touche

@Reno Erh, having said which, if your user profile is telling the truth, you are definitely not old :)

Can anyone find a single cigarette maker that has a twitter link on their web site?
I think it would read something like this: "@whoever -Woah, sorry about the cancer, you should have smoked less. In other countries, we're required to sell cigarettes individually or in packs of 10 instead of 20 .. perhaps move to one of those .."

BarryThe problem is in your Trigger statement. You have to explicitly convert the @id variable to a varchar. declare @id int; set @id=1; update ImageGallery set img_id='img'+ convert(varchar(10), @id) set @id=@id+1

@Barry, "Sorry, your requests are going beyond the scope of the original question"

@Benjol Thanks - I don't think the OP really understands what they are doing :-/

@Barry, you could say that too if you want :)

@Benjol :) Probably a little harsh!

@Barry, in fact the ideal thing would be to incorporate the extra information you've provided into your answer, then flag your answer and ask a moderator to clean up the comments.
@TimPost, what do you think?
