@drachenstern Even then, its still factually erroneous - the only reason why there was not as much discussion on SE 2.0 sites were because those questions were quickly closed / answered with a link to that question - how the hell would that question get so much attention otherwise?

I'd hate to @DeadMG lose rep for his question, but I'd also hate to also @spinning_plate and myself lose rep for our answers.

@YiJiang I prefer to think of it as this meta is the prime meta, all the others are secondary metas so most discussion doesn't have any business there.

@Jin nice new design! Seriously.
WHat's with the new look? No more long hair?

Half the links stuck in that "It was utterly horrid and lots of people hated it." line were questions; there is one feature request. The only one which came even close to being 'horrible' in sentiments was sbi's complaint

@YiJiang yeah, I know, it was more hyperbole cos you're probably one of five people who will take the time to read those links.
I've read more complaints on the envelope than I recall where they were, and some of them are 10k views

10:03 PM
@drachenstern Most of it was because people didn't understand how it worked

@YiJiang just like they didn't understand how the new system works and they didn't want to give time for it to be shown to them? Granted, I think some of the new features are immediate feedback from us on how it should work, but overall I think that Jeff et al knew what they were doing.

@drachenstern for the vast majority of it, I agree

@YiJiang Which was, actually, THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH IT.

@drachenstern Well, you're overgeneralizing here - and the fact is, if you look at that question, how much of the feature requests in there were actually implemented later on?

@YiJiang idk, I can't read the 10k question

10:05 PM
@Shog9 It wasn't that hard to understand, didn't it?

and I am overgeneralizing, I thought that was what the point of the memes of meta post was for. a little hyperbole

I pulled the Google cached version and saved a copy locally

@drachenstern No. The point of the memes posts are as much hyperbole as can reasonably be crammed into the space provided

@Shog9 wasn't that what I said? :p

...and frankly I'm not all that sure about the "reasonably" part.

10:07 PM
@drachenstern Its not terribly polite to go in and edit that line into other people's posts then, isn't it? You're associating that over-generalization with that meme, and so everything you slap that line onto you're basically saying, hey, look at these bunch of 'Facebook users' etc...

@YiJiang Yes.

@Shog9 Fair enough

@YiJiang lolwut
IMHO, the envelope was a great feature and obviously well-used. Towards the end, it wasn't even breaking horribly all that often. But it had a long history of being misunderstood.

@Shog9 yes, and what @YiJiang is saying is that I did not capture that long history appropriately enough. And what I argue is I can't, as a) the posts are too widely spread, and b) the posts are often in the 10k range.

wat is this i dont even
Purple drank is a slang term for a recreational drug popular in the hip hop community in the southern United States, originating in Houston, Texas. Its main ingredient is prescription-strength cough syrup containing codeine and promethazine. Cough syrup is typically mixed with ingredients such as Sprite soft drink or Mountain Dew and pieces of Jolly Rancher candy. The purplish hue of purple drank comes from dyes in the cough syrup. There are numerous slang terms for purple drank, including sizzurp, lean, syrup, drank, barre, purple jelly, and Texas tea. History Houston, Texas producer...
I mean I read the article, it's just ... who would do such a thing?

Q: Parse string using format template?

SFun28If I can format a string using string.Format("my {0} template {1} here", 1, 2) can I reverse the process - I provide the template and a filled-in string, .net returns arg0, arg1, etc.?

@Richardakacyberkiwi That last ) there need to be escaped

SPIDERS!

10:45 PM
@YiJiang Thanks.

@drachenstern I recall having a bottle of strawberry cough syrup a few years back. Tasty stuff. And very... relaxing.
That said, upon reading the summary I was expecting DXM not codeine. Recall a kid on a forum a few years back who liked to binge on DXM cough syrup and post his... experiences. Not the brightest guy.

Wow, she's in the iTunes top 100?
wtf? Now I've got @TimStone's bug too ... fricking doubleposting
@TimStone did you break something?

We’re excited to announce that Wednesday, April 6th, 2011, is World-Wide Stack Overflow MeetUp Day!

We commonly say that Stack Overflow is run by the community. We also commonly say that Stack Overflow is not a social networking site. There’s no private messaging. There’s no “friends” list. The entire focus is on the knowledge shared. So, when interest arises to organize world-wide “meet ups”, we need a little help from you.

Stack Overflow users are a diverse group of people, spread all over the world (there’s a lot of green on that map!). To get everyone involved in this year’s MeetUp, we would like to organize into local groups by getting everyone in each area together… all at the same time. We are making it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the groups already meeting up face-to-face. Meetups.com provides just that service.  …

o:

:o what?

Yes! Finally, the greater shall be known: my love of all things SO, or my hatred of all face-to-face interaction!

come ON visual studio, let's go

@Shog9 the meetup in your area should be a masquerade mask party - then you won't be face-to-face!
whatever you want to call it >_<

11:37 PM
ponders the idea of a WAN party meetup

The "J" in the image looks like a "V"

@Shog9 I don't think that's what was intended

@Zypher oy
@Shog9 double oy

DOY

@badpssockpuppet I'm confused how they managed to schedule it on the exact random day in April I picked to have a lunch meeting with faculty from my university.
claims conspiracy

11:48 PM
@TimStone no fair scheduling a lunch meeting with faculty from your university on April 6 tomorrow.
@Shog9 thought you might find this mildly humorous:

Meh. @drachenstern included a bunch of misleading links about how the envelope was hated. The false positives were hated, maybe. (Most of us just ignored the color of the envelope.) I haven't seen anyone bashing /users/recent.

BRILLIANT!

So I felt compelled to add a comment for the obvious
> So to anyone reading this who hasn't read the edit revision log, you should. And the point of this thread in general is comedy. This post is not intended to be a dig at anyone, and is satire. Also, the regulars here know they can find me in chat most of the time. TTYL.
which totally kills the humor, but should help defuse the flames if anyone can read even one word.
I also loved your NNPOV edits

@TimStone you'll just have an awesome day then! lunch followed by meetup = win, surely? (;

damnit edit collision

You may over-judge the flexibility of my schedule, but I guess we'll see. ;)

11:53 PM
meta.stackoverflow.com/posts/83625/revisions <-- what to do... Is Marti about to vandalize? Hmmm...

unless you happen to eat lunch in the evening, that could pose a problem I suppose.
in which case, you'll have to reschedule the meeting with faculty q:

@RebeccaChernoff have you seen his schedule?

I can't say that I have.

@drachenstern The schedule I use when I interact with other people is a little different.

@TimStone sure sure

11:55 PM
@RebeccaChernoff I already pushed it back by a month, I feel obligated :P
Note to self: Do not strafe while zoomed down the scope and perched precariously on the edge of a cliff, whoops.

@drachenstern Bah, now my missing 'e' is missing again.

@drachenstern Oh man.. rev 5 (or 6)would have been good, not 1! 9=1
