Are there any unicode characters that resemble wheat stalks or grains?

Q: [Broken Badge?] The most easily gamed GOLD badge, and yet impossible to "earn"

cyberkiwiI reckon it is Unsung Hero. Maybe a tie between this and Copy Editor, but the requirements are a bit different. This is the badge that possibly requires the least amount of work. All you need to do is to know that such a badge exists, and to have some friends. The requirement is at least 40 a...

Hm, this question kind of pisses me off.

@RebeccaChernoff AHHHH

@TimStone That user seems to be a bit of a troll

That makes sense

At this rate, it'd take me years to get the gold mod-rewrite/.htaccess badge, I don't think it's so unreasonable that I got something for answering in a non-popular tag...
Though I would agree that the requirements are a little weird.

11:13 PM
Ok well my client was very happy with the new module even though it had some minor issues

Ugh, screw you Firefox, you can't remember my position on the page when I move tabs between windows?

This client is so funny, run by two older women... we made a NSEW compass for placing images on a canvas, and they placed an image of a car and started "driving" it around, making little "brooom brrrommm" sounds. LMAO

Hahah

@RebeccaChernoff can you find where it is auto-installing from and nuke it from orbit?
@TimStone they're sweethearts, I wish all my clients were as nice as them!

Er, folks. I need some opinions.
What should I make of this comment?
Apparently I came off as racist.

11:22 PM
Meh, doesn't strike me as racist, but not a particularly good idea

@Moshe IDK about racist, but...xenophobic maybe? That's not the right word either

@Kragen My idea was simply to post a link to the documentation to low rep users within certain tags.

@Moshe Right, which is very much not what you wrote.
There's so much loaded language in that post.

Yeah, but thats kind of patronising to new users

@TimStone Perhaps. I'm going to rewrite than.

11:24 PM
A royal "RTFM" from the site itself - not really a great first impression

@Kragen No, only low quality questions with people with weak track records and poor language skills.. Say, 15 questions, 8% accept ratio.

But that's not really where the problem comes from

@drachenstern Right, I'm just bad at expressing myself. :P

The people with weak track records "need to be voted down or flagged by those of us recognizing them as such" so the system will take care of those people automatically

More importantly, it's not even a real problem necessarily.

11:26 PM
it's why the system for doing such a thing already exists

The fact that people have a problem with people with a lot of questions or a low accept rate is not a problem for the site itself.

@Moshe There is no logical connection between accept ratio and question quality

@TimStone while I share your frustration, that's an edge case no? You should file a bug

@Kragen In new users there is. I've noticed a pattern.

Then use the data instead of giving it your own name

11:27 PM
"I've noticed a pattern" - That's not particularly scientific :-)

people don't think that data is racist. They think that conclusions are racist.
show data, not conclusions. let them draw their own conclusions

@drachenstern Oh, I know, just...general frustration, heh.

@drachenstern Fair point.

The users on MSO that use their voice, they have QUITE the ability to draw conclusions from data, and if the data truly says what you say it says, they'll make the same conclusion you do, and it'll be there all the same
give them the data, let them decide

This user is a bit of an interesting case, about 49% accept ratio.

A: Is it possible to print from iPhone & iPad app?

MosheYou can print on any multitasking capable devce which is running iOS 4.2 or higher. See this for more information: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/2DDrawing/Conceptual/DrawingPrintingiOS/Printing/Printing.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40010156-CH12-SW1

Well the user who asked that question. See the original edit.
This is a straight up RTFM question with poor quality.
Another, same user. See word usage. The most upvoted answer, quotes straight from the documentation:
1
Q: Is iPhone app name and Application name in app store should be same?

sriHi, i am created one app, when i upload app store, raised one doubt, Whether app name what i given while developing and app store app name should be same or different? Regards Srini

11:32 PM
@Moshe Those questions seem fine to me, its just that the English / readability isn't great, which is understandable from non-English speakers.

@Kragen But the point is that both of them are RTFM questions.

@Moshe so what you did there was what you should've done. You took a question, that somebody had, that was poorly worded, and you edited it to make it more generic, and that it would be searchable by other users, and you gave the correct answer, with a link to supporting documentation. You did the right thing. I agree that it's unfair that you didn't get rep, but really you did a non-thing (except contributing)
And on that note, my computer has finished what I needed it to finish doing for today, I'm out of the office. bbl

I understand the sentiment behind your suggestion - readability of questions definitely fluxuates throughout the day, but the suggested solution seems to be unrelated to the problem (the difficulties experienced by non-native English speakers asking questions)

Q: We need to help non-English-speakers somehow...

Jonathan SampsonI saw a guy from Portugal today attempt to ask a rather simple question. But the question was so horribly confusing that he started getting down-voted, and close-voted. After discovering where he was from in his profile, I invited him in the comments to ask his question in Portuguese also - this ...

I hear. But should these users who chronically post these weak question... Something should be done.
@Kragen decent. Love the first answer.

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinteresting.

I was expecting some different answers - like suggestions of translating tools.

So, the setup.exe for the driver actually runs an HD audio installer and an HD Display installer. I went in to the display folder and ran that setup.exe:

The second answer is interesting - encourage people to post a native-tongue version of their question to allow others to translate.

@badp Interesting - I was asked this question at an interview over 20 years ago - not MS - I gave a different answer though ;)

Heh, it receives a mention on wikipedia:
A manhole cover is a removable plate forming the lid over the opening of a manhole, to prevent anyone from falling in and to keep unauthorized persons out. Description Since the era of ancient Rome, sewer grates made from stone have been used to keep people from falling into the sewage and to catch anything large that might otherwise fall in. Manhole covers usually weigh more than 100 pounds (roughly 50 kg), partly because the weight keeps them in place when traffic passes over them, and partly because they are often made out of cast iron, sometimes with infills of concrete. @RebeccaChernoff ARGH!
Well maybe that's the core issue?

Can you install the .inf files directly using the device manager?

Um..... hides ...I dunno, can I? Heh

You're pushing my windows knowledge here... but

@TheRenamedException That she has an nVidia chipset? Most definitely.

11:48 PM
@RebeccaChernoff do you see any *.inf files in that directory?
@TimStone LOL

yeah, 1

hm, probably not going to do much good, but
what is it, I think you open the device manager and right click the device and say "install new driver..."
or something
and you say "I have the disk for this driver", and you browse to the .inf file
last time I did this was probably 4 or 5 years ago, on XP...

If I manually choose the device driver to update by saying "have disk" (have disk, seriously?)....ah yeah that's what I'm trying, but...

@RebeccaChernoff I know, "have disk", stupid right? Ok, yeah, looks like that won't work then :-(

@The I've done that. I "search in specific location" and browse to the folder with inf

11:51 PM
@RebeccaChernoff AH

@RebeccaChernoff Often the .inf file just contains instructions to run the .exe setup

It annoys me how much time I'm wasting on this.

@RebeccaChernoff I was just going to ask if it was 64 bit

Do we believe System Info?

11:53 PM
And you said you did download this right?

@RebeccaChernoff System info is full of unspecified vendor specific bugs. You should totally drop that and use jQuery 64 bits.

That is, we're talking about that very file?
@badp oy-bligatory star

hmm 75176 doesn't sound familiar

@TheRenamedException obligatory star for obligatory joke

@TheRenamedException Uh oh. Why are people talking about URLs that start with www-307?

11:56 PM
@PopularDemand load balancing FTW!

@TheRenamedException Hmm. I'm confused why there would be 2 different drivers...

@TheRenamedException Huh. Okay. I figured Lenovo driver question.

@RebeccaChernoff I am too. 32-bit vs 64-bit, but, you'd think they would send you to the right one

these both say 64bit

wtf? LOL...
I feel your pain @RebeccaChernoff!

11:57 PM
One says Optimus, one doesn't. I thought all the NVS 3100m's were Optimus though....

It is a ThinkPad right?

What's the nVidia chipset model?

> The T410s adds switchable graphics but not Optimus and it still uses the relatively underpowered NVS 3100M, and it costs several hundred dollars more than the T410.

I'm gonna feel really stupid if I've been attempting to install the wrong thing all weekend. And also really frustrated with the stuff I found online that indicated I have this Optimus.
