Later @Benjol
@YiJiang - still there?
Why is subversion not asking me for my password? Argh!
@TheRenamedException You clicked "remember me"? :P
user153011
@TheRenamedException because you're logged in to the main version :P
LOL, no, instead it keeps asking me for my Gnome Keyring password
@Moshe Am now
3:09 PM
Ah, ok, I may have gotten it, testing
I was adding event "onclick" instead of "click" and, as you said, it was missing the third argument.
sweet!
As a wise man once said:
"Two minutes of debugging in the morning is more effective than an entire night of attempting and failing to do so."
Hrm... should I update the version number...
@Moshe don't tell @TimStone this
@TheRenamedException I spent several hours last night, some of that time with @TimStone's help. He did help with the localStorage, but the event handler bug...
Thank you for helping @YiJiang, @TimStone.
@RebeccaChernoff - If you want to test in Firefox, the script now is compatible with FF.
Um, why was my remark about Synagogues and time zones starred?
SE Chat status script now available via Subversion. Anyone who wants write access, just ask me for a username.
@Moshe must be important.
@TheRenamedException Is subversion's source code available on subversion?
3:17 PM
What is this "subversion" thing.
@LoïcWolff Gee, thanks. :P
Is that like github?
@mootinator Yes.
SVN
@TheRenamedException I was being sarcastic
is thinking of putting a Nippon related easter egg somewhere in the userscript...
is going to get smacked for that
@TheRenamedException hahahahaha
3:19 PM
Replace all instances of "it" with "Nippon: Game of The Year Edition"
@mootinator That would require some hackery as Javascript's replace function, if I understand correctly, is not very robust.
@Moshe I do recall the regex not being big on word boundaries.
@Moshe you do not understand correctly :-)
@mootinator Ah, regex might work
It uses regexps, so, it can even parse HTML tags lea͠ki̧n͘g fr̶ǫm ̡yo͟ur eye͢s̸ ̛l̕ik͏e liquid pain, the song of re̸gular expression parsing will extinguish the voices of mortal man from the sphere I can see it can you see ̲͚̖͔̙î̩́t̲͎̩̱͔́̋̀ it is beautiful the final snuffing of the lies of Man ALL IS LOŚ͖̩͇̗̪̏̈́T ALL IS LOST the pon̷y he comes he c̶̮omes he comes the ichor permeates all MY FACE MY FACE ᵒh god no NO NOO̼OO NΘ stop the an*̶͑̾̾̅ͫ͏̙̤g͇̫͛͆̾ͫ̑͆l͖͉̗̩̳̟̍ͫͥͨe̠̅s ͎a̧͈͖r̽̾̈́͒͑e not rè̑ͧ̌aͨl̘̝̙̃ͤ͂̾̆ ZA̡͊͠͝LGΌ ISͮ̂҉̯͈͕̹̘̱ TO͇̹̺ͅƝ̴ȳ̳ TH̘Ë͖́̉ ͠P̯͍̭O̚N̐Y̡ H̸̡̪̯ͨ͊̽̅̾̎Ȩ̬̩̾͛ͪ̈́̀́͘ ̶̧̨̱̹̭̯ͧ̾ͬC̷̙̲̝͖ͭ̏ͥͮ͟Oͮ͏̮̪̝͍M̲̖͊̒ͪͩͬ̚̚͜Ȇ̴̟̟͙̞ͩ͌͝S̨̥̫͎̭ͯ̿̔̀ͅ

must resist the urge to burn through all of his stars
Is that really impossible, btw?
@Moshe is what impossible, parsing HTML with a regex? Please tell me you're not seriously asking that...
:D
@TheRenamedException I am, academically.
Ah, there was another recalc. I thought I had gone crazy. (s/y/ier)
@PopularDemand You probably have, recalc or not. :p
@Moshe It is. Quoting the answer:
@PopularDemand is it still in progress?
@badp braces for it
> Regular expressions are a tool that is insufficiently sophisticated to understand the constructs employed by HTML. HTML is not a regular language and hence cannot be parsed by regular expressions.
@TheRenamedException No idea. I checked SU over the weekend and saw that I had a three-digit rep, which was weird because I broke 1k last week.
3:26 PM
@Moshe seriously, it is impossible for all but the most basic expressions
Ok
I figured I'd find out about it on MSO today if there was a recalc.
@PopularDemand Yeah I have not lost the ~800 rep I will be losing on MSO yet
@TheRenamedException Quick, offer a bounty!
@PopularDemand ?
3:27 PM
@PopularDemand To round the loss at 1k?
@TheRenamedException Then you'll only lose 300 with the recalc.
@PopularDemand really?
@TheRenamedException No.
@PopularDemand um, no
Wow, that's actually a good idea if you weren't lying to me!
3:28 PM
Before the bounty: Denormalized reps: 10,000 - "Real" reps: 9,000 - Difference: 1,000
After the bounty: Denormalized reps: 9,500 - "Real" reps: 8,500 - Difference: 1,000
OK gtg to a meeting, bbiab

@Reno I see the problem, it's missing
Er, just got an email from HP, advertising app enabled printers
Yea, Facebook on a 1.75" screen FTW!
I can't wait for the HP app store
3:33 PM
@Moshe No no no no, you tell it to login and it prints out Facebook!
@Moshe /facepalm
Some apps in the email are: Elmo, NBA, Leapfrog, Facebook, Picasa, Yaho!, Disney...
They're just trying to invalidate one of my SO answers.
@mootinator It is tagged .
@mootinator Voting Ring, Go!
Ok, gtg bbiab
3:34 PM
aaaand tag added
Whew, that was close.
what tag? the question is deleted...
Yup.
I almost didn't get that edit in ;)
@mootinator Do that for 49 more questions, then wait for April 1, 2014 when they NOT the "deleted" bit on all questions, and you'll have Taxonomist!
Heh, just ended an answer on Aardvark with: (You can ask on StackOverflow.com, they've got an awesome community.)
@PopularDemand Huttah!
3:42 PM
When they ask on SO we'll tell them to ask on Quora, and when they ask there we'll tell them to ask on Aardvark. It'll be awesome
@MichaelMrozek No, I answered the question, of course.
@MichaelMrozek Then on aardvark suggest if Stack Overflow wasn't willing to answer it, perhaps it was off topic, and they should submit an area51 proposal for a site which would answer their question.
@mootinator Where A51 is a redirect to Yahoo! Answers for the day?
How is a question with 60 upvotes closed?

The real question is how "Post examples of bad practices in PHP and why. Please only post one bad practice per answer, this way the worst can get the most votes." managed to get 62 upvotes

What is interesting is the OP reputation graph: stackoverflow.com/users/376947/alexandra?tab=reputation
I guess due to the recent recalc, the graph drops way negative several times and is currently negative.
According to the rep leagues I've earned -80 rep this week. I was pretty pleased with myself
@jzd I'm expecting to see that flatline at any moment.

@Popular, I guess the 267 is actually supposed to be a -267 then? (Which once fixed will really go to 1).
@jzd I just meant that it looks -- with some imagination -- like a heart monitor.

It does.
4:22 PM
bah, why is it Samba can't properly take advantage of bandwidth
maybe it's the Ubuntu implementation
or the ubuntu speed reader
...hmm, probably it is the ubuntu speed reader. Nvm
4:50 PM
So that nobody thinks I'm dead :p ~ oh how I hate migraines, and bosses with imaginative memories ... "don't copy and paste so much" conflicts directly with "just copy and paste so you don't have to write as much code" ...
Heh.
5:14 PM
Surely there must be a drinking game based on "I lost x rep over the weekend, what the...?" posts.
hey wonder if any mod can add a tag synonym for orchard & orchardcms
user153011
@giddy post a question about it
question on meta?
@giddy Why doesn't the usual suggestion route work for you?
You wouldn't need a mod, you'd just need four users to agree that it's a valid synonym.
(I won't be one of them; I've never heard of Orchard.)
loL! sorry/// k will be
will do*
i didn't think one would post a question about such a thing on meta..
5:17 PM
@giddy Here's the official description page: stackoverflow.com/privileges/suggest-tag-synonyms
ah thanks.. so I'm posting it on meta.
@giddy What? No, just suggest it at stackoverflow.com/tags/orchard/synonyms
Oh, nevermind, you don't have enough rep.
Okay then, post to MSO about it, if you really feel that strongly.
yea! lol thats why I asked here.
just did!. I really want to see the orchard community or SO.
they use an icky mailing list and the codeplex forum which I really dont like.
Quiet today.
5:38 PM
Was busy writing a Meta answer.
comes back to make noise so @PopularDemand feels at home
damnit I have 8 hours from wed/thurs last week I don't remember what I did. Wasn't I supposed to be doing this timesheet thing a little more everyday? :(
I think I'm like two weeks behind on mine, crap..
err, 7 hours
and I'm sure my wife was the cause of 2 of it being missing
screw it, I'm gonna absorb two of it into my ever-expanding PTO pool, which really shouldn't be as high as it is
so now I have 5 hours that I have no clue what I did. Mostly thanks to my still present head-bang-bang-bang-ache
@PopularDemand you sure are being quiet today :p
@drachenstern I thought that was the thing for today. Send me the memos, guys!
@PopularDemand I'm gonna go back to lurking in a bit, when I hunker down to rewrite this sproc on my left monitor
Also, sad drachenstern is sad because he has no third monitor ... unless someone wants to donate a DVI-HDMI converter cable, or a monitor that uses HDMI directly and an HDMI cable ...
5:44 PM
@TimStone Plus-oned!
@TimStone Yatta! Again +1!
Also, I am apparently quite the pundit
I am somewhat curious about whether you can go above 500 and it's just hidden, so that a 500 weight user could submit a good flag and then a bad flag and it just cancels out, or if they stop adding once 500 is reached.
That's actually a good question, I was wondering that myself.
@balpha, +1 to my overall opinion of you for explaining Outspoken with a graph.
5:48 PM
"Oh no, if I flag wrong, I won't be at 500 any more?!"
-0.05 for backwards-izing "vertices" to "vertice" instead of "vertex," though.
it's CW, go edit :) oh wait, it's your answer: -1 to you! muahahaha

rep audit bug on SU:
also plays his ESL card
user153011
** rep this week (2/27/2011 - 3/5/2011): 0
** rep this month (2/1/2011 - 2/28/2011): 12
** rep this quarter (1/1/2011 - 3/31/2011): -1
** rep this year (1/1/2011 - 12/31/2011): -1
** total rep 110 :)
5:50 PM
@balpha I'm doing so. (Well, I was, until I accidentally closed the tab. Bah. I'll do it later.)
I suppose if I show a three hour deficit from last week and a three hour bit of surplus time today, that will be sufficient for the timesheet overlords. Ok, I need food and caffeine and little happy pills and fresh air and traffic. Well, I don't need traffic, but I'm going to invoke it. BBIAB
@Nyuszika7H Which part is a bug?
@TimStone My home is actually pretty quiet much of the time. Work, on the other hand... the HVAC system hums and grinds constantly here.
user153011
@MichaelMrozek don't you see the -1s? I have 110 rep on SU… not -1!
@Nyuszika7H Did you see the date range preceding the -1s?
user153011
5:53 PM
@MichaelMrozek oh
@PopularDemand Ugh, that'd drive me crazy, heh.
@TimStone I'm thankful for holidays, when they turn it off because who would work on a holiday? They're probably my most productive days.
Ah holidays...I wish I had those.
Also, SE Modifications is not getting the love I expected, hmm..It also appears to be lunch time.

Q: Please stop asking me a captcha with over 500 reputation. I AM A HUMAN

yes123I wonder how it is possible that Stack Overflow is still asking me to solve an unreadable CAPTCHA before I can post a question when I have more than five accounts on Stack Exchange, and I have more than 500 reputation on Stack Overflow. YES I AM a human being! Doh!

Heheh :D
6:02 PM
Yes, it does appear to be lunchtime.
returns with a plateful of meat
I'm wondering how a captcha managed to get 500 reputation.
2
It posts good answers that get upvotes and accepts, like anyone else.
Every time a user is given a captcha, the captcha is really behind the scenes stealing their answer.
@Benjol I did finally make it to sleep, heh.
And the prize for most crazed despot goes to... Gaddafi says 'all my people love me'
@TimStone, yeh, slept long enough for me to miss you before coming home
6:15 PM
Whoops, sorry about that. :P
@TimStone, I ended up going with your dblclick idea, it's implemented now if you're interested... with extra evil code to make Yi rant :)
Hahah, I'll be sure to take a look ;)
@TimStone No worries, I didn't need you
Question, for anyone who cares. I'm thinking of making my userscript smart enough to propose new versions to the user. But I can't think of a good place to expose the new version numbers. Is it really going to be as bad as ajaxing in the gist and parsing it?
@TimStone look for the function BorkFor :)
Hm, we had toyed with this idea before, but we didn't come up with a good solution.
@Benjol I dunno... there's some pretty stiff competition in that category.
6:19 PM
@PopularDemand True :)
He did refrain from promoting himself to generalissimo.
Those are probably the only two non-negative statements I'll ever make about him.
@Benjol You'd have to do that everytime though. How about using the localStorage to store the last time you checked for updates, and only doing that every so often?
you could then offer a simple link to just update the user script
@balpha, yeah, I thought of that - [that was the easy bit, so I didn't mention it :)]
OK, rolls up sleeves
also remember you can't "ajax in" -- that's a cross-domain request, so you'll have to jsonp
(assuming gist supports that)
@balpha, hm, yes, I'll see what I can do.
@balpha, here's another solution :) blog.bandit.co.nz/post/1048347342/…
user153011
6:30 PM
Help! My mouse pointer is blinking rapidly!
@Benjol cute solution :) but I doubt gist alone suffices for that
@Nyuszika7H Something got in its eyes. Rinse with saline solution for 30 seconds.
Another impossible thing I'd like to be able to do is get the current version of the script from within it, using code (so I don't have to remember to update in two places).. ;)
(I am not responsible for damage that may occur to your monitor or computer if you actually try to apply saline solution.)
6:32 PM
@Benjol what script are you writing now?
@Moshe, still the same one, I'm refining it :)
But an 'updater-style' functionality could be useful in lots of scripts (chat. included)
And have you seen mine? Note that you should uninstall the old one first, it's been renamed.
@Benjol if (window.IWantTheVersionNumber) { window.IWantTheVersionNumber(42); return } window.IWantTheVersionNumber = alert; /* do other stuff */ }
@balpha sorry, don't understand that :( is that what I should create, or it already exists?
NOOOOOOOOO MY PRECIOUS PHANTOM META REPS
6:37 PM
Nooo I lost 10 meta reps sob
goes start a thread on MSO, threatening to post on his blog and make a video on Youtube. That'll teach 'em.
@Benjol if you don't use alert, but a useful callback, this will have the script work normally the first time you load it, but only give its current version number the second time you load it
the second time is just a <script src="..." /> that you create within some updateCheck() function
@badp You think you're Scorble or something? :)
@mootinator I lost 750! Take that!
user153011
@PopularDemand LOL
6:39 PM
@balpha I lost 800!
At least I still have my illegitimate 11 rep from Area51
user153011
Never mind, I had too many tabs open…
@balpha Ouch!
user153011
@mootinator /!\ CHEATER Matched: /illegitimate|cheat|…/ Match: illegitimate
Mostly because of silly users quitting and Jeff making stuff status-completed by deleting it but oh well.
6:40 PM
@MichaelMrozek "Victory!"?
@PopularDemand He's the king of the rest of us.
@balpha OK, got kids to put to bed now, I'll try to parse that later.
@TimStone, catch you on my tomorrow morning before you go to bed, I guess :)
Indeed :)
user153011
Heh.
is sad mailmunchies.com never took off.
6:44 PM
The orientation of the pasta shot disturbs me.
@Nyuszika7H I would be pretty mad at you right now if I didn't just eat lunch.
Apparently the postal service doesn't much like mailing a Ziploc full of a Starbucks drink across the border.
Luckily we have a room owner ready to migrate the images to their own room, right?
user153011
Flowers?!?!
@mootinator Probably because they're biased against Starbucks
6:45 PM
@TimStone No doubt.
@PopularDemand Oh, they finally recalced meta. :(
@balpha Request that that be renamed "The Tavern kitchen"
3
@MichaelMrozek You've done some terrible things in your time, but parading around artificially inflated MSO rep? I wish I could lose respect for you, but you're already stuck to the bottom of the barrel.
Recalcs are for people who don't want to be on the first page
6:50 PM
// usage of null is deprecated, TODO remove in next release ...Huh.
@MichaelMrozek I don't know what you're talking about, these grapes are quite sweet.
user153011
Usage of null us deprecated.
Usage of undefined is enprecated.
@PopularDemand One day it will be you on page 2. I've got my eye on Jeff's spot
Oddly enough, they do seem to be talking about using undefined instead. :P
@MichaelMrozek If by "one day" you mean "last month," then yes.
6:53 PM
2 years ago I was on the last page!
with my paltry 1 reps!
2 years ago meta didn't exist
That's just how far behind I was!
@balpha Maybe not publicly. Some of the elite users were invited to the secret private beta

What’s the first rule of Stack Overflow Club?

We have this policy not because we are jerks (or at least, not just because we are jerks) but because we believe meta-discussion kind of gets in the way. As the faq explains:

Also, try to refrain from asking questions about Stack Overflow itself unless you absolutely, positively have to. Most programmers don’t come here to learn about the intricacies of Stack Overflow; they come here to get answers to their programming questions. Let’s try to help them out by not cluttering up the system with navelgazing meta-discussion. If you want to suggest a feature or discuss how Stack Overflow works, visit our UserVoice site.  …

@balpha You will be sorely disappointed if you think your "facts" and "reality" can sway @MichaelMrozek
Not seeing it on meta.askubuntu. On the main site there they appear, but the positioning is off.
....crap.
Maybe just an inclusion meta data issue for the meta there?
hmm
6:59 PM
Oh, the meta probably is mistakenly not in our includes.
Can you screenshot the positioning issue? I don't see any problem anywhere else, and I'm not a member there.
