8:00 AM
Hmm....wonder why this VM hung on shutdown.

Happens to my Ubuntu VM on VirtualBox every time, heh.

Dang it, Oracle. What did you screw up with the latest VirtualBox update?
I just started having some weirdness with an Ubuntu VM in VirtualBox since the 4.0.4 update.

Oh Oracle..
Hmm, think it's break time. Back in a few hours.

@TimStone Have fun. Hopefully I will have wound down enough to go to sleep before your return. :)

Thanks. Hahah, hopefully so, see ya.

8:06 AM
Well, @GeorgeMarian - Perhaps my uber gray stylesheet will help you wind down

can I get some feedback on the latest?
@RebeccaChernoff - Are you there? I kinda fixed the logo issue.

@Moshe What's the latest version number?

I don't want "kinda"! (;

@RebeccaChernoff Now it shows the title. Try it. The issue arises on sites with longer names.
@GeorgeMarian 0.0.7.8 but the stylesheet it running, no version changes there.

8:10 AM
Ok, that's what I have. What did you want feedback on?

@GeorgeMarian Refreshing the page will show an updated stylesheet.
and my Settings.bundle is still broken
@RebeccaChernoff any better?
@GeorgeMarian - I'm looking for input on the CSS for now.

@GeorgeMarian I know.
Otherwise?
@RebeccaChernoff - Is it possible to get rid of that "-Stack Exchange" bit, or must my script do so?

huh?
get rid of it?
rather, what do you mean by "is it possible to get rid of that bit"?

Can the SE engine be tweaked to not output that line, or is it important for, say, SEO or something?
I could make the title smaller, but that text looks akward, IMHO, and makes the title overrun the bounding box.

8:19 AM
@Jin doesn't even get some of the html changes he wants. (;

@RebeccaChernoff Ok, just asking.
I'm not asking for change to HTML structure, just a bit of extra meta-text that's getting in the way.
no worries, I'll try to work around it. What's your opinion so far on the look?

text is small.
on Physics, can't see the 0 in 0 answers
share links seem smashed together
tag input jumps down when you start typing
tag hover overlay isn't basic styled

@RebeccaChernoff noted
@RebeccaChernoff noted, must check
@RebeccaChernoff agreed
@RebeccaChernoff good point.

basically, you just need to go through and test this stuff (:

@RebeccaChernoff ?

8:26 AM

?? what is confusing about that part?

What do you mean "basic styled"?

um, what you're doing.

That could use a border or something so it stands out a bit.

@GeorgeMarian Lack of background there? What is the CSS selector on that
@RebeccaChernoff Oh, gotcha. Right, I noticed that.
@GeorgeMarian Can you right click and "Inspect element" for me please?
I need to know the CSS selector on that box.

8:28 AM
There's a class vt on the <td> and a class post-menu on the div inside.

@GeorgeMarian ok, hang on.
@RebeccaChernoff - Regarding the 0 in 0 answers on physics - no repro, screenshot please?
@RebeccaChernoff - What browser btw?

@RebeccaChernoff oh, yea. That uses the same style as the unanswered on the homepage (I think), which for some reason has a different background.

seems like a pretty basic thing to notice... (;

@RebeccaChernoff I did notice it.
sighs at self for missing so many obvious things
@RebeccaChernoff again, no repro

8:32 AM
@Moshe heh, it happens to the best of us, quite often

braces for another screenshot of a textbox

People should really stop recalculating their rep if they don't know what it means...

@GeorgeMarian - Still have that textbox open?

ah never mind, the tag input always jumps down

@Moshe Unfortunately, it goes away on refresh. Dunno if there's a way to trigger it.

8:35 AM
@Moshe, really, I'd suggest just meticulously going through and looking at things. That way you can pick up all the stuff we're pointing out before asking people to test. (:

@RebeccaChernoff Fair enough. I'm confused by that white 0, btw. Seems to be sharing a style but only halfway.

Ok, @Moshe I have the text box up again. I don't notice a difference.

@GeorgeMarian I know, hang on.

Here I thought you were read for me to test it. :P

@GeorgeMarian - Which question? I'm going to try and trigger it here.

Q: The etymology of the phrase "it's raining cats and dogs"

Ben KennettI was wondering about the phrase it's raining cats and dogs; I've heard two versions of the meaning of the phrase and I was wondering which one was correct or wrong altogether. The first: with 16th century European peasant homes frequently being thatched, animals seeking shelter from the elemen...

But, I'm sure there is some PFM related to it being displayed.

hang on, I need to know what the div is that needs that border, hrm...

That may be a tough one.
It seems to be in a div that normal displays anyway, which you wouldn't normally want to place a border around.

Right... I've found some common styles, ".popup" and a similar one for notifications.

Hmm. this may be it: <div class="share-tip">

no search results, but I'm going to try it anyway.

8:43 AM
That's everything under the "link | edit | flag" bit

When using inspector, it should "blue" whatever html you hover over in inspector.

Hi! :)

nods
I know how to use Firebug. ;)

@TheRenamedException Are you there?

@Nyuszika7H I haven't seen him in a while.

8:44 AM
@GeorgeMarian - Okay, added a border to share-tip
@GeorgeMarian He's been busy

Is it just me or SO chat is broken?

As have been @Fosco and @Zypher

@Moshe Ok, I'll start clicking away then.

@GeorgeMarian Yes, please do.

@Moshe Yah, I noticed. Though, I did seem him here earlier today.

8:45 AM
.share-tip{
	border: 2px solid #333;
}
I really should do better than that, but.
OH! It may be sprite background.
Well, let's see...

Q: suggested edits with 0 changes

Nikita RybakI've heard that you must make at least n (6?) character changes in order to suggest edit, yet here's an edit with 0 changes. You can view sources from edit history: before and after. Were rules changed recently?

@RebeccaChernoff "...?" what?

Wondering why @Nyuszika7H posted that here.

8:51 AM
@GeorgeMarian - Kinda, except the close button is out of the box.
Thank you.

@Moshe Yeah, dunno WTF that's about.

If you can get what that box is called, I can fix it.
Wait, what're the selectors on that button?

@RebeccaChernoff Is it just me or SO's chat is broken?

@Moshe On the close button? There is no class.

It's just you. What's that have to do with that question?

8:52 AM
@GeorgeMarian Is it inside of the box's HTML?

@GeorgeMarian It's all in .share-tip.

@RebeccaChernoff What's with that link than?

@RebeccaChernoff nothing :P
After a Ctrl+F5, now it works! :)

@GeorgeMarian - Try to invoke the box again.

8:54 AM

@GeorgeMarian perfect, thanks.
@GeorgeMarian - try invoking it again.

I think it's a generic rule on hyperlinks but I'm not sure. I added some padding and a shadow on the box. Let's see what happens.

Ok, I don't see any difference. The close is still outside of the border.

oh, meh, it's float right.
I don't think I can fix that, per se.
@RebeccaChernoff
The HTML is overriding my CSS! No fair!
oh, hang on a sec, I can prolly trash that.
@GeorgeMarian - Once more please.

9:00 AM
ok

I might have nailed it.

inject the html locally so you can test it

@Moshe Sorry to burst your bubble, but...

@RebeccaChernoff How? Can I do that in the inspector?
@GeorgeMarian screenshot?

one sec

9:02 AM
k

@Moshe yes.

@RebeccaChernoff Ok, I don't know what all of it looks like, so I'm just injecting the div and its contents, not sure where though.
I assume it goes after those links, as @GeorgeMarian mentioned.

@GeorgeMarian showed you the exact html...

@Moshe Are you trying to add the log out link back?

9:06 AM
@Moshe Yes, it's after the links, all within the post-menu div.

@Nyuszika7H heh no
@GeorgeMarian ok. Gosh, haven't seen so many tables used for layout in years.
Sheesh, SO.

gets popcorn

In their defense, the W3C still hasn't given us a good replacement.
@TimStone Dang it, now I want a snack.

@GeorgeMarian true

9:07 AM
Heh :P

As I like to say, we want a true 2D layout, not this 1.5D layout we're forced to bend to our will.
Hmm...I wonder if the gf still has some of those "cheese" flavored rice cakes.

O_o Cheese flavoured eh?

Yeah, they're sprinkled with some yellow crap. But, they're pretty tasty. Somewhat like "plain" wheat puffs.

@GeorgeMarian Wait, if you get that popup again, mind pasting the HTML in here so I don't have to peck it out?

Ah, I guess that really isn't that odd, heh.

9:13 AM
@TimStone Can you help solve this one?
8 mins ago, by George Marian
user image

Just style the div so that it holds floated elements...

how so?
is overtired, which @TimStone can't relate to.

so go to bed

There's a site for those kinds of questions...and this one has been answered many times.

@TimStone link me please
@RebeccaChernoff Yea, i should. It's gonna be a crazy day.

9:15 AM
Yeah, I'm typing this from my iPhone, that's not going to happen right now.

grr..message is too long...how can I cheat that again?

@TimStone Oh, ok. Well then go buy my game, it's iOS friendly.

@TimStone Nah, but the "sweet chili" I had to settle on is a bit odd.

@GeorgeMarian I have "lukshen kugel" leftover from yesterday. (That's noodles/eggs/spices fried in oil.)

9:16 AM
@Moshe Here's just the share-tip html: <div class="share-tip">share a link to this hot question to earn the <a href="/badges">publicist badge</a><input type="text" value="http://english.stackexchange.com/q/14260/456" style="display:block; width:292px;"><a onclick="question.hideShareTip()" style="float:right">close</a></div>

Hmm, sweet chili is always a weird flavour I find.

@GeorgeMarian Thank you.

So what's the problem now?

@TimStone Yeah, it burns in a rather unexpected way.

You can select the close a element, right?

9:18 AM
@YiJiang no, I can't really, because there's no selector on it and it's not the only link in there

Gah...so many windows...so many freaking windows...

@Moshe .share-tip input + a should do

@YiJiang and do what? remove the float?

Not sure, will have to look at the actual CSS to do that, and I don't think I can coax the thingadongdong to appear

@YiJiang inject the HTML @GeorgeMarian just posted it.
sounds smart, although he was told the same just moments ago

9:19 AM
lol

Have you tried setting overflow: hidden on the parent .share-tip element?
@Moshe What's the context? Which element to inject into?

@YiJiang That wouldn't work.

@YiJiang inject the "thingadongdong" into the page to play with the CSS.

@YiJiang Inside the post-menu div, after the links.

@GeorgeMarian Not the usual clearfix problem then, hmmm?

9:21 AM
@YiJiang kinda, but how do you inject that with just CSS?
:after is not well supported.

@YiJiang I dunno. I assumed it wouldn't display the close, as it's technically outside of the div.

If I remove the float:right, it appears on the bottom left of the tooltip.

@GeorgeMarian I was guessing it might be a uncleared float problem, hang on, lemme see...

I was thinking overflow: auto, but yeah.

@YiJiang that it is, but how to fix.

9:22 AM
@YiJiang Ah, I see.

I mean, that div is styled fine now, so...

overflow: hidden works. As does overflow: auto, but that adds a scrollbar.
@TimStone Not in the "clean" css, it isn't.

@GeorgeMarian No you can't. If you try sending the message with an Ajax request, you get 500 Internal Server Error.

Hmm...unexpected. overflow:hidden on share-tip seems to work. At least, when done in the inspector.

So look in the actual CSS?

9:25 AM
status-repro

@GeorgeMarian - Okay, try again, I've updated the CSS file.

This should do it.

9:26 AM
@GeorgeMarian Similar here, I added a bit of padding though.
@GeorgeMarian please let me know your results.
Once again, there is no need to update the script, the css file is pulled automatically from github as I update it.

Of course. BTW, did you increase the size of the font on the main page?

.share-tip {
    -moz-box-shadow: 0 2px 2px #999999;
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #EFEFEF;
    border: 2px solid #CCCCCC;
    padding: 10px 10px 8px;
    position: absolute;
    width: 300px;
}

@GeorgeMarian a bit, yes.

@Moshe Heh, this more than just a bit. lol

9:29 AM
The share buttons need to be style too, by the way

answers is flowing out of the box.

@YiJiang nice, gonna use that, but with some changes possibly.
@GeorgeMarian screenshot?

Good thing I left GIMP open, heh.

@YiJiang - You wanna step in, fork me on github and I'll pull your changes later?

@Moshe Not really, I'm still working on something myself

9:30 AM
ok

I'm gonna end up with so many moshe_*.png files in Pictures directory...

@GeorgeMarian ugh. It'll take some tweaking.

You've choosen a font that's too wide. Remember to include Linux fonts too in the font stack

Yah, that's a bit too large. I instinctively hit CTRL+0, thinking I had enlarged the font myself.

Not that I'm complaining, but this is beyond "userscript". This is writing a style for SE.
@YiJiang you sound like an IDE warning.

9:32 AM
@Moshe Hahahahaha... :P

I really need to get to sleep.
We're making good progress, thanks for all the help. Feel free to fork on GitHub. Oh @YiJiang, feel free to recommend a minimalist font for Linux.
@GeorgeMarian I keep an SO directory in my pictures directory.

@Moshe Yeah, I probably should do that.

@Moshe Ubuntu, 'Liberation Sans'
Still checking the others
Liberation Sans is used in SO's font stack

@moshe what'd you break?
Ok, there we go.

I broke the fonts. Ugh. Dont even know where in the file or how.
I can't type coherently at this hour.
@YiJiang Someone pin/star that till I wake up.
night

9:38 AM
@Moshe That is the risk of coding late into the night. :)

@GeorgeMarian yea, btw the script is updated, I forgot to increment the version, but I made a minor adjustment (tested to work)
Really, Good night.

heh g'night

@Moshe Night? It's morning there. (UTC+0100, CET)

If I can trigger that pop-up before I get tired of trying, I'll post a screenshot.

@GeorgeMarian ok
@Nyuszika7H there? Oh shut it. :P

9:41 AM
@Moshe Hungaryā€¦

@YiJiang - added your font.
@GeorgeMarian Inject it. I'm going to be dreaming of jQuery selectors now and CSS siblings ugh!

@YiJiang A quick JS question, only because nobody is at SO's JS chat room:
Is this correct?

@Nyuszika7H Is what correct?

@TheRenamedException Here's my dance script:
var dance = {

       ' |\' + '\n' +
       '/ \' + '\n',
    b: ' O/' + '\n' +
       '/| ' + '\n' +
       '/ \',
    bool: false,
    toggle: function() {
        var _b = this.bool;
        this.bool = !this.bool;
        return (_b) ? this.a : this.b;
    },
    start: function(id) {
        this.dancing = setInterval(function() {
            $.post('/messages/' + id, { 'fkey': fkey().fkey, 'text': dance.toggle() });
        }, 750);
    },
    stop: function(id) {
        clearInterval(this.dancing);
First, you have to post dance.a, then you just do dance.start(id); ā€“ where id is the previously posted message's ID.

A: Sudden sharp drop in reputation; find out reason (recalc?)

Nick CraverWe are running a global recalc right now across all Stack Exchange sites in preparation for showing leagues on the /users page, you can see more details (and suggest things!) in this question: Redesigning the /users page Note no reputation rules have changed, we're just doing a recalc to get you...

Hmm, I have 300 rep on MSO.

I'll be losing around 150 on Meta ;_;

user146674Please, S/O, stop placing these ridiculous time limitations on Questions and Answers. Fair enough, you want to stop people from gaming the system, or maybe you're trying to save bandwidth. But there are other ways of going about it, instead of getting on peoples nerves.
