The point and laugh approach does sound like fun, but it probably comes with consequences you don't want to deal with.

Like loss of job
;-)

What'd they think was wrong?

They're saying our product isn't displaying things correctly
Specifically that the lines of text are too close together in our product, it doesn't match Illustrator. But it does match Apple's Font Book, so, it's not our problem

Ah

Kop
hi

11:03 PM
'Ello @Kop

Kop
I think it's the first time I use the chat

Hallo Kop
Any relations to the Keystone Kops by chance?

Kop
Nope my full internet name is Koper
I don't why I decided to shorten it for meta SO

@Josh How different is it from what Illustrator shows? Or are you not sure?

Kop
I usually use the full name
Do any of you guys play wow?

11:07 PM
I stay far away from WoW, because I'm afraid of spending too much time playing it, heh :P

Kop
I see

@TimStone my reasons exactly
I know I've an addictive personality, so I don't even try

Kop
I used to play it way too much when I was younger

shakes head at SAS

Kop
I remember playing it during high school, and I played on US servers.. (I live in Italy), so I would wake up at midnight, raid until 6 AM, then go to school
Now I don't play anymore though.. But I don't regret it it's how I learned English and I got a job through it so

11:11 PM
You got a job through WoW?

Q: What is the real visitors/day and visitors per day?

Leigh RiffelFrom the Database Administrators Area 51 page it says that there are 132 visits/day, but the site itself lists 991 visitors/day in the Site Stats. It would seem that visits/day would be higher than visitors/day. The visits/day on Area 51 was zero before the public beta started, which was unders...

@TimStone BAH
CEO just pulled me into a conference call with the client
They proved me wrong, it's 4px different from FontBook

Ouch.

it's maybe 10px - 15px different from Illustrator?

I guess that 4px makes a big different eh? :/

11:15 PM
@TimStone Well at least they see that Illustrator is different from FontBook, so that's a half-win

Oh, we're talking vertical line spacing right?

but they they asked us to make it like Illustrator, heh
@TimStone Yes

Ah, in that case those are pretty big gaps I guess.

4 px on vertical line spacing can be a bitch ... sorry to hear about the diff

@TimStone They're also complaining about horizontal letter spacing, but, I haven't checked that yet >:o

11:16 PM
Picky, picky. :P
Actually I won't lie, I probably would be too. But thankfully I'm not your customer ;)
..As in you don't have to put up with me, not in any other derogatory way that could have been taken.

@TimStone Well I want it to be as perfect as it can be. But, I can only do so much

Aye, I hear you on that one.

Kop
Yes @TimStone
I work for wowhead

Oh, very cool.
'Ello there @AidenBell, good to see you're still roaming about :P

Kop
I do something very difficult to explain ahah
I'll be in big trouble when I wanna change job
Because I'll have to somehow explain it to my interviewer

11:23 PM
explain what? leaving wowhead?
you just say you're burnt out on game dev and want to do something new

Kop
No, explain what my job consists of

give 'em the specifics :p ... everyone's eyes glaze over anyways ;)
Are you guys familiar with the concept that most people start thinking about what they're going to say before you've finished talking?

Kop
Yes
Speaking of which I have not much experience in job seeking.. I'm planning to use SO careers when I wanna leave

@drachenstern I preplan conversations before I have them. People are generally predictable.

@TimStone I try to avoid conversations :S

11:25 PM
@drachenstern Usually the first few words are enough to understand what your opinion is anyway.

Kop
But, I had the chance to be in charge of hiring a new C++ developer along with my boss.. I was the one mainly reading resumes, and they were just huge block of texts that I soon stopped reading altogether
And asked for code samples instead and based my decision solely on that

I gather from "usually the first" that you're going to ignore what I have to say, so I'm preempting you by doing the same thing :p

Kop
So this changed the way I wanna write my own resume next time

@Kop good plan

@drachenstern IMMA LET YOU FINISH BUT YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT YOU'RE WRONG
4

Kop
11:26 PM
But I'm wondering if people do like me or some people actually care about the resume itself

have you read spolsky's stuff?
@radp I heard you like to make judgements while you're judging, so I put a gavel in your gavel so you can judge while you judge

Kop
No
What stuff in particular?

@Kop my resume was a sheet of 8.5 x 11 with a margin at about 3.5 and a vertical line there. To the left of that line was my name, a space, my address, a space, my phone, a space and my email. To the right was the basics of a resume. It slid onto two pages, and was mostly whitespace.
I got a job on my first submission to anyone.
Go figure
@Kop lemme dig a link

@drachenstern Yo dawg, I herd u liek memes so I put a ceiling cat in ur mudkipz so u can FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU while u have no chance to survive make your time.

Kop
Did you also have code samples?
I planned to like, put a link to them in the first sentence

11:28 PM
@TimStone - yea, couldn't stay away! :P

@radp all my base are belong to Soviet Russia in hot Natalie Portman with petrified grits

Kop
So people can see them and decide.. But I'm wondering if recruiters usually care more about the code or your education or other stuff you write in there

@Kop I had a project from school I worked on that was hosted on SF that me and one other guy primarily wrote. I was responsible for the bulk of the work.
@Kop mine was code and the fact that I had a BS with a minor in Math

@AidenBell Hahah, there's no escape!

@TimStone - how are you?

11:29 PM
Ah, busy as always, but relatively alright I suppose. How about yourself?

Kop
I'll take a look thanks #drac

About the same, just been messing with the Android SDK as I finally got a new phone

Kop
@drac

> Everyone should buy stock in Gerber and Pampers...you'll make some good money in about 9 months after this storm.

11:31 PM
Nice. :D My programming lately has been limited mostly to work, with a sprinkling of SE userscript here and there, heh.

@TimStone well better to be busy than bored either way :)

I suppose so, trying to keep the stress in check though.

Yea, same here. Avoiding burnout

Thankfully I have the Xbox 360 for that. ;)

lol

11:42 PM
is still stuck on a call

I'm waiting for someone to get off a call, go figure.

@TimStone wait maybe you are my client!

Wouldn't that be hilarious?
I'm definitely not, but :P

oh hello boss when I have facebook AND gmail open at the same time answering an email ... ffs
the man has good timing, I'll say that

@drachenstern HAHA

11:48 PM
at least I had progress on screen on something else to flip to quickly and show him, and then flip to the database and show him several new things there too
ah well

@Josh Well, I am from Texas....but I am definitely not a woman, so I think you're clear.

LOL

@TimStone Another Texan on the web? Aren't you guys supposed to be busy polishing your shotguns guarding your ranches and your lawns from pesky jQuery kiddos?

and with that I'm going home... cya

@radp I'm only technically Texan, so it's OK.

11:51 PM
@TimStone Yeah, I figured. You have sense of humour, so that didn't match.
turns around to face half the room pointing polished shotguns at his forehead
(I know exactly one person that explicitly says he's from Texas. We're on friendly terms, although he has objectively trouble reading written humour.)

I only admitted it for the sake of this conversation. Otherwise people are very surprised when I mention it, hahah.

LOL
@TimStone I actually was thinking what if someone in here was the people we've been meeting with recently. Not clients, but possible investors/partners/business cohorts
I didn't think you were one because none of them are named Tim, but maybe @TimStone isn't your real name ;-)

Nah, it is, @drachenstern found me on Facebook. ;) I definitely do not work in your industry, so you're safe, hahah.
