8:01 PM
well, at least IE8 does support localStorage -- an HTML5 feature, no less. Should be grateful for that :)

status-lurking

Hey, any wordpress experts in here?

Nope, they're all at wordpress.stackexchange.com
(:

I'm very excited for this weekend. I'm going to start on my Note taking application

what do you call 100 wordpress experts at the bottom of the sea?

8:14 PM
Bad Programmers?

a good start!

I don't get it...

@rchern Awesome thanks :-)

I'm flagging your messages as unfunny..
Maybe I should make a new channel called 'Unfunny Messages' and migrate them there..

@balpha How do I acknowledge mentions in other rooms?

8:16 PM
@Chacha102 A gold star I give to you!

@badp click the room name

Thank you.

@balpha When will I be able to kick people from my channel?

I saw a tweet I liked the other day...
"How many SEO copywriters does it take to change a lightbulb, light bulb, bulb, lamp, light, eco-bulb, bulbs.."
3

lol

8:17 PM
@rchern !! that's great :)

THAT is how you be funny..

1,640 people caught on the joke just on Twitter.

Heh

@Chacha102 When IE6 freezes over

@Chacha102 Have you seriously never heard that joke, with Lawyers instead of wordpress experts?... Maybe we should re-open the "Under a Rock" chat room and migrate you back there.

8:19 PM
@balpha I'll hold you to that. As soon as IE6 becomes obsolete I expect a kick ability..

@balpha You mean hourly?

Oh wait, IE6 is already obsolete

How many SEO copywriters does it take to change a lightbulb, light bulb, bulb, lamp, light, eco-bulb, bulbs, fluorescent tubes?
This one was the original.

oy

Ok, I'll be back later
Don't ruin my counters with your laptops..

8:21 PM
Um, what?

(We're in a Tavern....)

→ 1 messages have been migrated to 'Unfunny Messages'

@Fosco Here, have a → for extra realism

@Fosco ZING!

You are in a Tavern. You see: Chacha102's counters.

8:22 PM
Popular demand is east, west, south and north.

give beer to Chacha102

@badp Are you calling me fat?

@PopularDemand No, I'm calling you crowd-sourced.

It is on like Donkey Kong, @badp.
Eh, I lack the motivation to participate in this argument.
99% done applying to grad school....

Besides I only have 33 days to see the 10k tools in action, before 10k rep is required to use the 10k tools.

8:25 PM
@PopularDemand Almost there!

I wish everyone a great holiday weekend, where applicable.

@Fosco I have to work tomorrow. But it could be worse; some of my co-workers are being called back Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

"Stack Overflow is currently offline for maintenance", cool page... :O

@Fosco Thanks, same to you!

@mmyers sorry to hear that..

8:26 PM
@Fosco You headed out?

@badp Wait, what?

@Josh yeah it's about that time.. 430 and I bolt for the door.

@mmyers :-( I'll hop in here and keep you company :-)

see @mmyers, even with autocomplete, people can misspell your name :)

oops

8:27 PM
@balpha LOL

autocomplete is optional! :)

@Fosco You have a nice weekend too.

@rnrnyers

Too bad @Focso left before I could post the answer to the /me question :-)
I'm 80% done composing it

yes, @rchem, we should totally fix that ;)

8:31 PM
'zactly!

@balpha Yeah, I noticed that about 45 minutes ago.

8:54 PM
Hmm, is this right:
Seems not, never mind... :-(

This is insane

zomg xD

«"You are perfect player!"»

OK, to anyone following the /me discussion:
0
A: IRC-like /me command for chat

JoshOkay, well this has been a contentious debate but in the spirit of Friday, and the Friday opening a long weekend (here in the US anyway) I propose the following solution, which I hereby make Community Wiki so those jQuery experts out there can improve it: To add support for the /me command, if y...

/me ducks the beer thrown at him

@Josh, got a screenshot to go with that?

9:03 PM
@rchern Coming right up
very crude, but

@Josh I am busy looking up your address

/me notices a pattern with @Diago

@Diago LOL. It's 123 Fake Street, Springfield, MA, 01234

> javascript:var meRe=/^\/me .*$/;var doMe=function(){$('div.message').each(function(){ var c=$(this).find('div.content');if(c.length&&meRe.test(c[0].innerHTML)){ c=c[0];var a=c.innerHTML.substr(3); uc=$($(c).parents('div.user-container')[0]); uc.after('<div class="'+uc[0].className+'"></div>'); uc.find('div.signature').clone().appendTo(uc.next()); uc.next().append('<div class="message">'+a+'</div>'); $(c).remove(); found=c; }})};window.setInterval(doMe,100);

there, that's better :p

9:04 PM
It's quite crude indeed.

@badp It's CW, feel free to improve it :-)

I meant of the output, not the input.

I knows, I knows.

@Josh Look out for the incoming /me bat :P

9:04 PM
that's what you get for 15-20 min of work :-)

@rchern What pattern?

@balpha Damn, beat me to it!
I just finished uploading
@badp I'm also a Prototype guy, not a jQuery guy
/me hides under a table

<ot>In case you are interested, Skype 5.0 Beta 2</ot>

@Diago, looking up people's addresses so you can threaten and beat them (;

@rchern Hey I think this is the first thing I did to get @Diago to threaten me -- normally he and I get along quite well :-)

9:07 PM
He has threatened me too. ):

@rchern It actually depends on the amount of alcohol I had before I log on. But I am actually quite a friendly and peaceful guy if you get to know me.

time for the long weekend to start!
bye!

It's the latter that some may find a bit difficult

@Diago, I was just teasing (:

@rchern I know :) Enjoy your weekend.

9:09 PM
@josh I've edited it so it always shows the small version of the signature

@balpha Awesome!
You did that so quickly
I am impressed

I kinda know the DOM of this chat :)

I forget I'm surrounded by geniuses :-D
@balpha It's really nice
I work with many DOM designs and this one is very well done (IMO)
@rchern See you later (If I'm not too late)

okay, have a good one, all

I didn't realize that the % on CW posts show the percent of chars each user has contributed, that's cool
I thought if I posted something and @balpha edited it, it was 50% me, 50% him

9:18 PM
not chars, lines

ahhh

@balpha Nite

@Shog9 ahh

unfortunately, that means editing a CW post rife with typos ends up attributing all or most of it to the editor

actually that's a shame, as my CW post which @balpha edited is a one-liner, so I'll always be 90%? That's not fair :-)
@Shog9 Ah, another good (bad) point

9:19 PM
@Josh oh, i can fix that...

@Shog9 oh? :-)
if it doesn't stay as a one-liner it might be harder to bookmark

Cool, inline tag editing
oh right, just a 10k ability :(

@badp I was happy to reach 3k on SO this week. 10k will probably take me another 3 years, heh

@Josh I only reached 2k on Gaming.SE, which is enough to unlock the 10k tools during the beta.

@badp I'll be lucky to reach 1k there

9:32 PM
In 33 days the bar goes back up to 10k, so I'm enjoying the ride till I can :D
(I'm at 2.4k and stationary on SO)

I hope to be an active participant, but I'm not very knowledgeable
(about video games)

I can't reach 10k even when I sum up all my 14 reputations scores together :D

I reach around 30k combined..
or 27k
somewhere around there..

@badp Me neither -- 6749
6 accounts
@Chacha102 nice!

16.7k on So, 11k on Meta = 27.7k total

9:37 PM
@Josh Area51 sez 8,862 •0 •10 •105 -- but 1,300 of that is just linking bonuses

@Josh There. No more 90%...
/me laughs maniacally

@Shog9 Nice work!
Now you'll get the blame for my monstrosity, HAR HAR!
Ha, I love the comments: @name So Do Me

I always prefix my SO userscripts with SO you see...

playing off my var doMe = function ()
@Shog9 haha, I didn't even get that part, that's even better
You made it really elegant @Shog9, makes me want to use jQuery more often :-)

JavaScript is good fun

9:41 PM
@Shog9 Yeah, I learned Ruby on Rails and that introduced me to Prototype, and that changed my whole view of JavaScript
I used to hate it before then
Now, my company's main product has 246,595 lines of JS code :-)

:-D

/me removes So Do Me as Chrome doesn't attempt to autoupdate greasemonkey scripts.

Ah, found a bug :-)

ah?

You've gotta say something else otherwise it leaves a lingering gray box
/me points to @badp's post

9:44 PM
Yeah.

I could fix that pretty easily, if I wasn't truing to fix an issue for my buxiness :-)
Maybe this weekend
before I start on XMPP
which is daunting :-)

my VPN connection just dropped off, so i might as well

@Shog9 thanks for the edits and have a great evening/weekend/whatever!

you too

Too bad @devinb's not here to see soDoMe() :-)

9:54 PM
where can I see how many people are in here?

The user list is thataway →

@JoePhillips The grayed out users have been inactive for... someone correct me... at least 5 minutes, I think?

@Josh The first grayed out user talked 48m ago (The one after shog9, who talked 11m ago)

@JoePhillips And you can use the graphs on the chat home page to see when the room is likely to be hopping
@badp When do they first go gray?

cool

9:57 PM
Well, they fade away rather than become gray
I think they reach minimum opacity at 1h idle time

Ahhhh

Indeed
rchern was last active 45 mins ago and has 0.304054 opacity
Greg was last active 4 hours ago and has 0.15 opacity
and it doesn't get any lower than 0.15

Have I mentioned recently that this chat system is awesome? :-)

whereas even a few seconds of idle time give you 0.999999 opacity

@Josh can't say it enough number of times

10:01 PM
Interestingly enough, the "Other rooms you're in" feature uses text colour instead of opacity.
I guess that's because it's friendlier with some browsers.

10:25 PM
Well folks it's about time for me to pack up and head for the hills

@Josh have fun

Watch out. They have eyes

@JoePhillips I'm hoping they also have beer :-D
@Sathya Thanks :-)

stock up just in case :P @Josh

have a great night/weekend everyone, and a great long weekend to those celebrating work by playing all day Monday! :-)

10:34 PM
speaking of beer... I wish the homebrew site in area51 was more popular
