Q: Why my SO account was suspend for 180 days with out WORNING?!?

BlenderSo tooday I recived a latter from stackoverflow team: Due to many user complaints about your questions on http://stackoverflow.com, we have elected to suspend your account for 180 days. Your questions are generally of low quality and hard to understand. You have asked a large ...

I smell a flame war!!!!

he still can't be bothered to proof-read i see...

Jin
he needs a visit from the Grammar Nazi too...

His Grammar is horrible
Absolutely Horrible
As far as I'm concerned, Good Riddance. We need people who can actually spell

4:41 AM
Well, I'm out then... ;-P

@Shog9 Do you even post on SO?

draws back in mock offense
I... produce text on that site from time to time.

when was the last time?

lessee...

not bad...
mostly editing..

4:43 AM
yeah, 4hrs ago for a comment, 5hrs ago for a major edit

and asked?

answered something yesterday
asked something... Good grief, it's been a long, long time

August 12 2009

not even

yeah.. not even

4:44 AM
Apr 23 '09
and that was actually asked using a sockpuppet, which later got merged into my main account

Apr 09 I think

it'd be '08 if not for that ;-p

Yeah.. so you aren't a very inquisitive person..

well, i generally search first when i have a question
and i'm good at that.

ah
I hate searching

4:46 AM
it takes me longer to write up a question than it does to just find the answer myself

I haven't asked anything since Jan thoguh...
After getting the gold PHP badge I kinda stopped being involved in the main site
Now I'll do it time to time

i just watch for questions that catch my interest. I'd rather spend longer writing an answer and enjoying it than struggling to spew out a bunch of answers fast

Almost immediately I found that SO has two types of questions: Easy ones with direct answers, Localized ones that you have to dissect the problem out of the question and then answer it
Most of my 16.1k rep comes from the earlier
Because I don't really want to answer why CodeIgniter doesn't give you access to a certain internal function that you would love to use

i like the ones where I feel like i should know the answer, but I'm not quite sure... So I have to dig into it a bit. If I'm right, that re-enforces what I already know; if I'm wrong, I learn something new

Yeah

4:53 AM
those tend to fall into both categories though
I've learned a lot about the edge-cases in jQuery from looking into problems that seemed like they shouldn't have happened

I also avoid anything to do with Frameworks. The language itself is difficult enough to deal with..

(to a lesser extend, I've learned some WinAPI stuff as well, but there's less of that that I don't know and still want to)
frameworks... shudders

I generally build my own Framework anyway..
I call it 'ChaFrame'...
I'm so original..

heh... i like that one

For the next few minutes this channel will temporarily be turned into the XKCD stream, where I shall post comics I find funny. That is all
And Jeff deleted that guys question and suspended him on Meta
gg
Is it sad when half the PHP questions you can answer by reading the fucking manual?

5:13 AM
no
that applies to... probably 3/4 of the questions on SO
most users don't have the manual
or know where to find it online
(and to be fair, there are a lot of crap manuals out there)
cough MSDN

I hid the 'php' tag and my SO experience improved measurably

Unfortunately PHP is my cup o tea. I haven't found another language I would actually use
I know some Python and Perl and Ruby, but I don't have a use case for any of those

javascript, man. It's the language of the future! :)

Been a few years since I used PHP in any semi-serious way, but I do remember it having a rather good manual

I know JS too
I just don't answer questions on it.

5:17 AM
(but yes, JavaScript 0wns all)

I'm trying to find ways to make Javascript a bigger parts in apps
But when most of what I want to do is reliant on the database, it is hard

just do more client-side glitz

I've been working on a project where the main logic is in JS, then used it in a bunch of platforms
the web version is at hp15c.com and I'm working on Qt, Swing, and OS X dashboard verstons atm
(it's an HP calculator simulator)

My next application is probably going to minimize the server side interaction by having a nice clean API that returns stuff in JSON, and then Javascript will handle it from there

it was fun figuring out how to interface C++ (Qt) and Java with the JS core

5:20 AM
Basically it is a note-taking application aimed at education, since last year I took notes in Notepad and it had a lot of annoying factors

@GregHewgill what'd you use for a VM?

JS is probably going to be key because it needs to be as snappy as heck with keyboard commands and such

Qt has Javascript built in (QScript) and for Java I used Rhino (which is built in to 1.6)

I did not know that about QT, cool...

yeah, it works well (just get the latest version, previous ones had GC bugs)

5:22 AM
how is data exchange between C++ and JS handled?

there's a QScriptValue C++ class with a bunch of conversions to other types

5 hours later…
10:17 AM
Sleeping all afternoon thanks to a migraine doesn't do much for my sleep schedule.

8 hours later…
6:34 PM
Someone with 10k on meta: What happened to this question?
I was curious what would come of it

I'm only, uh, 9615 short.

Well hurry up :)

@balpha Hmm. Ok, thanks

7:41 PM
Everyone on the internet is actually the same person. Jeff.

No we're not.

@Shog9 is a clone of me.

There were 8 others, but... well, best not to talk about that. Poor bastards.

nods solemnly

8:01 PM
biscuits & gravy = win

1 hour later…
9:29 PM
i hate biscuits & gravy

@Shog9 Perhaps you're confusing biscuits & gravy with something that tastes bad. That would explain it

ah, you might be right

what kind of gravy?

I'm thinking of greasy, salty whitesauce poured over tasteless gluey lumps of pastry
the sort of thing you tend to find at southern truckstops when you're too hungover to argue about eggs

@Shog9 You should write fast-food jingles

9:37 PM
eeeegs & sausage... coffee & a roll... hashbrowns over eeeeasy, chili in a booowl...
burgers & fries, & what kind of pies?
dammit, now I'm all hungry

You should get some tasteless gluey lumps of pastry
You could pour greasy, salty whitesauce over them

naw, man... If I make biscuits, I cook 'em till they're crisp... And then put jam on 'em.

Q: Congratulations Eric Lippert for finally winning the c#-language badge.

KobiYesterday John Saunders added a new tag, c#-language, to 7 questions. There are quite many C# questions on Stack Overflow, but these 7 questions have high voted answers from Eric Lippert, who already received the new c#-language badge for them. Should there be a different tag for these questi...

Gotta say, I don't get why folks got riled up about this
as re-tagging goes, it was hardly abusive or destructive

10:20 PM
I'm sure it was done with the best of intentions, but it was a pretty major tag-paradigm change. I definitely think it should have been brought up on Meta.

oooh, nice new chat link on MSO

@LanceRoberts Well, it might have been more effective that way, but... folks re-tag stuff all the time, usually without asking for permission first. I'm honestly not sure what to make of this reaction.

@Shog9 Yeh, I retag stuff all the time also, and don't ask for permission, but this effects ten of thousands of questions at least, so I'd say it's pretty major.

@rchern I think the chat link has been there; the parent link is new

How did it effect tens of thousands of questions?

Q: SO and Meta SO do not link to each other at the top.

augustinUnlike the other domains, the two following sites do not have a meta/parent cross-link at the top of the page: http://meta.stackoverflow.com/ http://stackoverflow.com/ It'd be nice to have a consistent interface. At the top is a good place. See also: http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/55...

@MichaelMrozek No the chat link is also new.

I swear it's been there for at least a week or two

the banner has been there, but next to logout?

@rchern: Yeah. I remember the one on the banner, but not the one next to the logout.
I would have noticed because I'm using a GM script to minifiy the main bar.

Q: SO-Site Bar (Minimalistic)

Jonathan SampsonDownload Source: http://www.sampsonresume.com/labs/so-sites_minimal.user.js Description Greasemonkey script for linking the SO-Sites together. Jeff rightly pointed out that a mere clone of the footer-list takes up a bit too much space, so I thought this would eliminate that problem, or at leas...

10:37 PM
I stand corrected.... :(
@Michael: Or you edited the image. Yep thats what I'm going with.

@Dexter Admittedly not beneath me :)
Although probably beyond my very limited GIMP skills

Same here except I use Paint.NET because even GIMP feels to advanced for me.

There was a time when I first switched to linux where I literally WINEd mspaint.exe
I may be the only person in the world to have done that

Ha Ha. Your not the only one, I did that also. There's really nothing as simple for image editing, and if simple is what you need it can be beat.

Damn, the link has been there. ):

10:43 PM
I remember clearly a moment when I was editing something in Photoshop and needed to do some trivial action I couldn't figure out, and I copied the image into mspaint, did whatever it was, copied it back, and then stopped to think about the ridiculousness of what I'd just done

@rchern I know. I can't believe I didn't notice.
@MichaelMrozek I've actually never used Photoshop. It looks to advanced, oh and theres the price thing...

Now that it is mentioned, I feel like maybe I recall it being there. Looking at it just now after seeing the question about the meta/parent links, definitely thought it was new.

@Dexter I only ever used it at work, because we had a site license for it; hence my complete inability to do anything useful in it
