10:02 PM
Now taking bets: Will my code work the very first time??? How many times will I need to tweak it before Gravatars work?

No. 4.

@JoshsSocks I bet 18 :-)

Any more bets?

@MarcGravell, have you knocked off to play Rock Band yet or are you available to answer a quick language question?
Those are the only options, by the way.

@rchern Ok well you're right, first time didn't work
surprise, surprise. my code almost never ever works the first time, especially in Ruby!

10:07 PM
@TheUnhandledException in C# ASP.NET that would be `<% do something here %>`but only for server preprocess stuff. I couldn't use it in serverside stuff.
@JoshsSocks I was afk, I say 6.35 times

Attempt #2: Syntax error
Attempt 3: failed

c'mon #4!

@MichaelMyers I was doing kinect boxing
what is it?

Sigh. I need help setting up a VPN (ServerFault?) on Ubuntu (AskUbuntu?) Linux (Unix.SE?) for my personal use (SuperUser?).

I hear you can do that via a dev script ;p

10:17 PM
I would ask on SO just for the S&Gs of it

@rchern almost. But I am still getting an error. You have too much faith in me :-)

I guess I'll ask on StackOverflow and let y'all figure it out :P
So you can migrate it to Webmasters.

SO can't migrate to WM I don't think. But it can take a pitstop at WA.

AHAHAHA: Attempt #4: Stack Overflow due to recursion

lol
I wanna know what happens in between 6 and 7 :p

10:18 PM
@JoshsSocks I win!! \o/

@rchern should get a prize :-)

send the socks
6

haha

@MarcGravell You sir, win +1 internets

@drachenstern Just one? You cheapskate.

10:19 PM
@radp old meme is old

The team gave out a few million internets just a couple weeks ago!

@rchern - could you kindly say a few lines in a row?

hmm
i suppose
but why?
yay retry userscript!
is that enough? >_>

and now refresh

AHAHAHAHA again. Attempt #5 failed because "gravitar_url" was a typo, should have been "gravatar_url"
so @rchern wins again

10:21 PM
@MarcGravell Sorry, got pulled away. My question is, what is a football coach?

f5 complete.

ah, I have to take the socks back now; it wasn't #4 after all
@MichaelMyers you what now?
@MichaelMyers someone who coaches (teaches) the game of football (soccer).

@rchern apparently gained 20 rep in the last couple minutes

not to be confused with a big bus filled with balls.

@MichaelMrozek Awhile ago.

10:24 PM
I hear "language question", I was expecting something about C#...

@MarcGravell, am I missing an obvious purpose to that experiment?

wait... you were expecting purpose? on meta?

@rcherninsocks <-- I think that was it, no?

|:
oh, haha

10:25 PM
I totally didn't notice that.

Closest I could find. A porpoise on meta.

lol, ok ...

@MarcGravell Sorry, English language.

Right; I'm off for some Korean Fried Chicken.

@MarcGravell HAHHHHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

10:27 PM
@MarcGravell I read that there are signs in England saying "No football coaches allowed" and that they mean something completely different from what I would have thought.

@MichaelMyers As in buses?

That could mean no soccer busses

Yeah.

Well, depending on the context it could indeed mean buses. Football fans can be a rowdy bunch.
If it was in a parking lot (is that the right term folks?) it probably means buses.

Drive on the parkway and park on the driveway!

10:29 PM
Sorry @MarcGravell I'm fetching the user info JSON a lot right now, just because I'm testing. I'm almost done I swear :-)

Right. Was just wondering if "football coach" was context-dependent or if it always meant buses. Which you just answered.

I would think even on a road it might be posted
coach is the context-dependent word there
football is just a modifier

Of course, "football" means something different to us also. And "coach" can mean a bus, but hardly ever.

@rchern right. I'm just off to the restroom; I really need a big rest! See, in the UK we're not afraid of the word "toilet"

Speaking of context sensitive words, every time my father sees a sign which reads "no solicitors" he says "Ah, good thing I'm a barrister."

10:30 PM
(and no, I'm not really off to the toilet; that would be too much detail; I'm talking language oddities here)

Why does cargo go on ships but you can ship things by car?

So DynDNS free will drop me if I don't renew the IP information monthly.
or is it?

@MarcGravell hehe
also, "rchern in socks" sounds weird. people wear socks. they don't hide in them.

Not sure why it doesn't work. That sucks

@rchern People smile normally. They don't reverse their smilies.
Or do they? :P

10:38 PM
that's funny cos I was thinking something a little more Risky Business >.>
@JoshsSocks what's broken? Rubberduck it to us... we're kinda good at that

@drachenstern All my code is running, but the gravatars are not... I'm sure I missed some code

ok, so in place of showing the gravatars, show the gravatar/emailhash id instead
make sure that part is working

That's the tricky part, this is now an XMPP error

oh, hmmm...

Oh, I forgot a part, LOL

10:44 PM
I think that deserves an oy.

What's the count now there @JoshsSocks?

@drachenstern Not sure, 25? 30? :-(

oh well that's well past our little piddly 4 or 6.35 estimates ...

@drachenstern Yeah. The gravatars are being sent to XMPP, the <photo> elements are in the vcard, I see it in the data, just no image in my IM client. Oh well, a challenge for tomorow

Anyway I'm of for the night, later everyone!

10:50 PM
@TheUnhandledException Nite!

yay for finding bugs that REALLY should've been accounted for in the system architecture ... I don't think this is what anyone means by agile :|

hey @MichaelMrozek you have an exception in your thread!

@drachenstern Clearly you have some kind of QA training

There's a problem with AWT-Motif, @MichaelMrozek.
Have you tried plugging it in and out again? :ninja:
(If it helps, it should be graphic libraries. That's all I know, no kidding :( )

11:03 PM
@MichaelMrozek would you believe they let me write code instead?

@drachenstern That seems like a waste of your natural talent

plugging it in and out again eh? ... I don't think that's the way it works ...

hahaha, this session in the jQuery summit conference...the presenter is using a huge text file with ascii art and source code instead of slides (;

spiffy

11:51 PM
The next time I get it in my head to read meta.AU, somebody stop me
