"Saving Up" read: waiting for money to save up
;-)
Could also be interpreted as: "Waiting for the money to fall into my lap"
$.growMoneyOnTree(tree);
@rchern you must have hit a global, I see money growing on the tree outside my office q:
so yay my wife got a speeding ticket on the way home, 17 over
fortunately courtdate is jan17, and she has no tickets in LA so no-lo-contendre should be applicable
00:15
@rcern I tried that here and I got a syntax error... I think you meant $.money.growOn(tree) ?
@TheUnhandledException you're using the $.fn.forest aren't you? Yeah, can't see the trees in that one ...
@drachenstern tried $fn.forest.find(function(el){ return el instancof tree; }) ?
typo got in your way?
bah two typos but I'm on XMPP and can't edit,m you get the gist
lol
yeah, I got it
00:20
Using XMPP for the chat has made me re-realize how brilliantly the chat AJAX interface is coded :-)
isn't it tho?
and it's a first gen afaict
for the record: I hate cheap pens
do you ever just think "damn I'm really clever" on something you wrote 6 months ago and it turns out to be super handy?
Yes, I love that feeling :-)
hehehe, isn't it great?
Thinking "Damn, I'm really clever" sure beats the hell out of thinking "Man, what was I thinking when I wrote this?!?!? "
Which also happens to me sometimes ;-)
since we do analysis and reporting, and it's keyed (generally) on dates (amongst other things) one of our detail reports often may not have anything for the given date range. So we have another query that runs when that count is 0 and returns the most recent range. And then I stick that range into a sub div highlighted in red, backgrounded in paleyellow with a link that lets me jump to that range. It's nice and slick
and now I come across a page in desparate need of a rewrite :(
00:42
Welcome @Margaret
01:03
yey I broke 200 on gaming!
/me cheers
@TheUnhandledException congrats sir
I'm one organic point away from 200 on meta.so
I feel like that's a pretty good accomplishment
however on photos.se I'm 136 and that's only 35 points organic, so ...
I had to work really hard for my first 1k on meta
and then?
awww did I just get someone's sympathy vote on MSO?
01:08
And the second 1.5k was like, people are upvoting that??
um, no, um, not me.... whistles, twidles thumbs, looks around
lol well thanks I suppose
93 more >_<
compulsively reload much @drachenstern ?
:-)
lol, no
surf pages much
01:18
yay for commented out blocks of SQL that have no business being commented out ... :\

Yay Minecraft.
I've been meaning to check out Minecraft
but have lacked the time :-(
I've been meaning to check out Minecraft
But I have lacked a Credit Card
@YiJiang: have a PayPal account?
@TheUnhandledException It's kicking my ass. :P
03:03
But it's fun

@TheUnhandledException Yo dawg, wassup, wanna see somah, relly relly terible SO quessstions, yo?
HAHAHA, sure. WHat, do I just reload the home page to see sed horrible questions? :-)
Damn another typo I can't fix over XMPP
New game: star my typoss!
Hooray!
I should probably start coding, since I've spent the last hour or two playing Minecraft..
Now that it got you good and ready @Tim? :-)
What's on the docket?
03:12
I also need to think up a name for this site at some point, but I guess that can wait until it's closer to being done...
I dunno, I have several things I could be doing, including work-work, but even that isn't super urgent.
Hahah, I don't think that fits the site's function, but maybe. ;)
It fits any function! Just take your pick: (-: /-: o= o-:< )': q-: {{(}^:
But yeah, I wrote (err...am in the process of writing) an engine in Java that mimics Apache's mod_rewrite. Originally I was going to make a desktop client, but then I remembered that I hate Swing and that didn't make much sense anyway, so now I'm throwing a web frontend on it. :P
03:16
I hope it will be, if it works! ;)
I have faith :-)
Heheh, thanks. I wanted to go with something like infinite loop (since people always get "maximum number of redirects exceeded", heh..), but apparently that's some music company.
haha, hm, what would be a good name... "redirect hell" maybe? Nah, too negative ;-)
Yeah, don't want to scare even more people away from mod_rewrite, hahah.
Is this a dupe? I know it's been addressed, but I don't know if it's a true dupe.

Q: why are bounty points always subtracted even if a suitable answer is not provided?

simsI know this happens. It is clearly stated. I want to know WHY. rep is not money. So SO has no need of it. Why is the rep just discarded after the time limit expires? A traditional bounty is awarded. Until that time, it remains the property of awarder. Why is it bad reputation to seek and answer...

03:24
yes it's a dupe...
I'm not sure of which question but Im sure it's a dupe
In fact I think I even asked a similar question which was a duplicate, lol
Someone just posted a comment with a link to the dupe
ok mine wasn't really a dupe
@YiJiang that's not a true dupe.
The answer is, the question isn't.
ok @Popular I recant, maybe this isn't a dupe
in fact, this is a very good point:

A: Why an answer can't be accepted after an unresolved bounty?

Chris Huang-LeaverThis is one rule which needs changing, it confuses award of the bounty with accepting the answer. If no answers meet the criteria for winning the bounty, (answer in time with the arbitrary up votes) then you should still be able to accept an answer. Actually, I think the time limit is silly, if ...

Q: Countdown Timer for game

John SimsHey all, this is the last piece needed for my jquery game. A countdown timer that submits the score when expired and restarts when the play button is clicked. Here's the game. Yi JiangThere's a couple of things to look out for here. I wrote that script thinking that he's doing this as an exercise
^ This is how insecure the thing is
And there'll be real money involved?

So uh, @TheUnhandledException, remember how you were waiting for money to fall into your lap?

Why, got some spare you want to pile upon me???
Do you like...games of chance? ;)

My faith in humanity is waning
Today is another day you'll never forget. Apple cured cancer!
03:40
I feel like asking a follow-up question to the random() * random() vs. random() one: "Is random() * random() more random than random() if I can manipulate the odds?"
@YiJiang Apple acquired jQuery in a hostile take over?

And @Tim, which is more random: rand() + rand() or rand() * rand()?
If this iTunes announcement is as stupid as them having launched Ping, I'm going to go punch Steve Jobs in the face.
03:44
@TheUnhandledException apple.com/itunes/ping
@TheUnhandledException This, ladies and gentleman, proves that Ping failed
Oh yes, thanks, I heard about that briefly. I am still on iTunes 9
@YiJiang and I'm an Apple user too, lol
So it doubly failed. One might say Ping EPIC FAILed
I refuse to turn it on because their belief that it was a good idea disappoints me.
You know, if one said such things
I say such things all the time.
I'm very critical. :P

I'm pretty sure this is A Bad Idea™. Thoughts?

Q: How to track my jQuery plugin's usage?

OliverI would like to know if there is a way of tracking who is using my jQuery plugin thru some javascript code inside the plugin itself. My plugin is being used on different sites out there, so i'd like to know where it is being used and how many times it is being accessed.

I actually said EPIC FAIL out loud the other day and it just sounded so wrong... I guess I spoke it in a serif font or something
@YiJiang I second this motion.
Why @YiJiang? A small 1x1px gif wouldn't do much harm
@TheUnhandledException jQuery plugin code is available for all to see, and I don't think most people will appreciate this "feature"
He could also require people to register to download it

It also means that this is trivial to remove'
@TheUnhandledException That is a far better solution
Are you posting that or should I? :-)
@TheUnhandledException You go ahead

Sosumi is one of the system sounds introduced in Apple Inc.'s Macintosh System 7 operating system in 1991, an extremely short sample of a xylophone, which gained notoriety in computer folklore as a cheeky response to a long-running Apple Corps v. Apple Computer trademark conflict. The sound has been included in all subsequent versions of Mac OS, including Mac OS X. During the development of System 7, the two Apples concluded a settlement agreement from an earlier dispute when Apple added a sound synthesis chip to its IIgs machine. As a result, Apple Computer was prohibited from using their...

damn lack of autocomplete and my fat fingers, and no editing via XMPP

@TimStone That rumor has been floating around for so long it's not funny anymore :|
@TimStone I've been in the mood for good sashimi for a long time, I don't trust the places around me
@YiJiang Apparently now it's so unfunny that it's become serious enough to front-page on MSNBC.
@TimStone Oh god... how much is Apple paying for that I wonder...
@TheUnhandledException Hahah, we have a decent place around here. When I used to live in Philadelphia, I could get it delivered....That was....an expensive addiction.

Cha siu baau, also spelled char siu bao, are Cantonese barbecue pork buns (baozi). The buns are filled with barbecue-flavoured cha siu pork. They are served as a type of dim sum during yum cha and are sometimes sold in Chinese bakeries. Variety There are two major kinds of char siu bao: steamed ( zing1) and baked ( guk6). Steamed cha siu bao has a white exterior, while its baked counterpart is browned and glazed. Cantonese cuisine Char siu refers to the pork filling; the word bao simply means "bun." They're not particularly interesting when you can eat them everyday
Dim sum is a Cantonese term for a type of Chinese dish that involves small individual portions of food, usually served in a small steamer basket or on a small plate. Going for dim sum is usually known in Cantonese as going to "drink tea" (yum cha, 飲茶). History Dim Sum is usually linked with the older tradition of yum cha (tea tasting), which has its roots in travellers on the ancient Silk Road needing a place to rest. Thus teahouses were established along the roadside. Rural farmers, exhausted after working hard in the fields, would also go to teahouses for a relaxing afternoon of t...

I used to eat them for breakfast everyday
Breakfast is the first meal of the day, usually consumed in the morning. The word is a compound of "break" and "fast", referring to the conclusion of fasting since the previous day's last meal. Breakfast meals vary widely in different cultures around the world, but often include a carbohydrate such as cereal or rice, fruit and/or vegetable, protein, sometimes dairy, and beverage. Nutritional experts have referred to breakfast as the most important meal of the day, citing studies that find that people who skip breakfast are disproportionately likely to have problems with concentration...

A hot dog (frankfurter, wiener) is a moist sausage of soft, even texture and flavor, often made from meat slurry, typically beef and pork, though some recent varieties substitute chicken or turkey. Most types are fully cooked, cured or smoked. Hot dogs are most often served hot in hot dog buns, which are special soft, sliced rolls. They may be garnished with mustard, ketchup, onion, mayonnaise, relish, cheese, bacon, chili or sauerkraut. Some hot dogs are bland, while others are more highly seasoned. History Claims about hot dog invention are difficult to assess, as stories assert t...

I know, that's the odd part

@YiJiang you can downvote!
yes, you can upvote too
