@rchern i wanted to post yours, but its still broken

ye broke it!
hehe yeah ):
actually i was trying something new for the stackflair.com server
i think i need a gdi+ alternative ):
i solved the icon issue, but i still got another error

> A generic error occurred in GDI+.

helpful, ain't it?

7:02 PM
yeah...

I will get it working dammit.

@radp Ow.

10101

holy crap that is hard to read

Firefox does have subpar font-face support :/

Q: Google app for replacing Photoshop?

There is Google Docs to replace Excel and Word. I wonder if there is a Google online app/tool that I could use instead of Photoshop?

7:23 PM
It's not Firefox

I don't use firefox

oh. Well, I'm not having difficulties myself.

@Fosco sits down for @Fosco story-rant time

The problem is that y'all aren't viewing the site on a color TV manufactured in the mid-70s
it'd look totally radp if you were

@Shog9 Well, I have such a TV, but the dolts forgot to put an HDMI port on it!

7:24 PM
@rchern hah.. I'm not saying anything :)

lol

@PopularDemand philistine! You need a modulator and some ribbon cable to properly appreciate it.

If the modulator shocks you when you touch it, that means it's quality

@Shog9 Whatever you say, Pops.

7:25 PM
@rchern yes? what's the problem there?
it's pixelated
status-bydesign

let's just say it's a good thing i have no interest in the site, heh.

Whoa, you've been busy, @Chacha102!

??

Didn't you say there were >1k starred posts here earlier?

Yes
there are still 1.3k..
I'm going off of the Room information page
not the sidebar
I'm not sure which is more correct...

7:28 PM
I'm thinking the sidebar is correct.

then there are 860..
and there never were 1.3k
I dunno. @PopularDemand Go through and count them
@MarcGravell Which Star Count is more correct. The Sidebar or the Room Information page?

@Chacha102 jQuery.countMsoChatStars();

@PopularDemand You need more jQuery
jQuery.jQuery.jQuery.countMsoChatStars.jQuery()

@ChaCha102 There are 1.3k Stars spread out over 860 posts.

ah

7:33 PM
Which makes the avg post not very star-worthy. (/nudge @Chacha102)

What are you nudging me for?

3 hours ago, by Chacha102
no
3 hours ago, by Chacha102
Yes

If you'd like I could go get rid of all of the 1-star posts, making the avg higher
Its like what Asian countries do to get their test scores higher

lol

I could also run everything I say through Google Translator and make it come out as Chinese
DO YOU WANT THAT TOO BUDDY?!?!?!?

7:36 PM
那么这将不会有很大的帮助
I give props to the Chinese if they can read that...
may as well be wingdings to me
@茶茶102

@Chacha102 First delete all unstarred posts, then remove one star from each starred post. That'll sort out the main points.

BTW
42k messages
1.3k stars
900 messages starred
that is 2% of messages starred at all
we need to get that to 5%

There is not enough up-voting going on on Programmers.SE

I don't have an account on Programmers.SE

My MSO Chat bookmarklets:
1. Toggle Sidebar: javascript:$("#sidebar").toggle();
2. Toggle Images: javascript:$('img').each(function (){$(this).toggle()});
it looks so much less "slacking-off-at-work"-ish with those two clicked.

7:48 PM
3. javascript:var%20s%20=%20document.createElement('script');s.type='text/javascript';document.body.appendChild(s);s.src='http://erkie.github.com/asteroids.min.js';void(0);

yeah I have that one too

$(document).keyup(function(evt){
        if(evt.which==32&&evt.ctrlKey){
            $(".message.pending:first a:contains(retry)").click();
            $("#input").val("");
        }
    });
^__^

what's that do?

lets you use ctrl-space instead of clicking retry for those of us that type fast (;

oh, nice!

7:57 PM
clicking retry where?

@PopularDemand Here's a bookmarklet to make me invisible: javascript:$("div.username").each(function() { if ($(this).text() == 'Fosco') $(this).parent().parent().hide(); });

@Fosco try $(".user-150168:has(.username)").hide()

The ignore button for chat is just too easy, eh?

or $(".monologue.user-150168").hide()
(i think that's what you meant)

@balpha niice.. won't that just hide the first instance found?

8:08 PM
What evilness is being done here?

@balpha was really just a joke at my own expense for Pops

@Fosco no, hide() works on all matched elements

There are 5 of them with different phrases

Everyone's a jQuery developer, huh? prototype.js gets no love?

@TheUnhandledException where's my email?

8:11 PM
personally, i'm a vapor.js expert.

@Fosco In my brain :-/
majorly overwhelmed today...
will get it to you asap @Fosco :-)

hehe ok

prototype seems to have become only a proof of concept that jQuery was feasible

nice

@JohntheSeagull LOL

8:19 PM
@JohntheSeagull Didn't prototype originally work by actually modifying the prototypes of core objects? And when they caught flack for that, they changed it into the verbose deal we have today?
ah, nevermind, it still does that. It just doesn't work consistently because of IE. Brilliant...

@Shog9 It does modify the prototypes of some core objects, like Object, Array and Function
@Shog9 Works consistently for me...

Element is the one I was looking at

They are planning to address that for version 2

@The noted the new addition to the SO footer? :)

/me cheers
@radp That's awesome

8:25 PM
I remember using prototype briefly back when scriptaculous was the hot new thing... Then someone showed me jQuery, and I realized I could do the same stuff with a fraction of the code. Kinda killed my enthusiasm.

@rapd what about the footer?

@Shog9 I learned Prototype when I learned Ruby on Rails, and built it into my PHP framework

@DanielMoura gaming.stackexchange.com

maybe for v2.0 we'll switch to jQuery. But for now, we're prototype
@radp Logo still says beta :-)

@TheUnhandledException ctrl-f5/shift-f5/command-f5/super-f5/ultra-mega-super-unicorn-f5

8:27 PM
love the header and footer though
@radp Huh. Thought it was shift. It's control in Chrome. Shift in FF maybe?
ultra-mega-super-unicorn-f5 did it. Thanks @radp!

you're welcome

I was seeing one question where someone mentioned working 9 to 5. Is this the default?

I work 9am-4am most weekdays

really?

@DanielMoura, in the US, working 9-5 is generally the norm.

8:33 PM
Somtimes a slightly later start, but avg. UK btw

can I trade 9-5 for 10-6 or 11-7? :D

@AidenBell, you work a hell of a lot then (;

Q: Give us a total of number of posts found in search

Lance RobertsOn the main pages you have the number of questions on the right side, underneath the sort tabs. Could we please get a total number there when we do searches?

here is 8-5, 9-6, 10-7

Is it the norm for peak-productivity at stupid-o-clock at night. (me 2-3am)

8:34 PM
19 hour workdays? oof (;

@rchern - full-time job + own startup

@AidenBell did you mean... 4pm?

8 hours

then whoa, when do you sleep?

8:34 PM
1 is for lunch

about 4 hours from 5-9

when i'm in the bus going back home

4 hours is piss poor
unless you're on one of those ironman sleep schedules that don't actually fuck (too hard) with your brain.

Not too bad ... not expending much energy sitting and coding (other than the gray muscle) ... hard bit is not getting screen burn
occasionally your head gives in and you tailspin into odd sleep patterns for a week or so
@radp - Yea, trying not to burn out. Ration the complexity and switch between exciting but simple (UI design) and complex

UI design is not simple. UI coding is usually a nightmare :S

8:39 PM
coding != design

@JohntheSeagull - Web UI, so tweaking CSS to get it "just right"

okay, then it's coding :P

@radp is right.

I hate CSS
Now it's becoming better, but I still have nightmares from IE6 only days

CSS is like a Zen meditation lol
do something boring and repetitive and all that

8:41 PM
IE6 is over

@DanielMoura you wish

Hardly. IE6 is a hard to kill zombie that will do many unpleasant things to your household, figuratively speaking.

Was AOL's browser built on IE6 back in the day?

zombies are undead

@AidenBell I think so

8:44 PM
Im just glad we don't have -aol-border-radius ... i'd loose hope

@radp exactly. Undeads in theory it should be dead, but no, they start walking and pestering and doing bad things to people. IE6 fits the definition

@JohntheSeagull but it doesn't have tabs
I can't use a browser without tabs

Hey, im just grateful Google looks good in Lynx/Links

@AidenBell do you use lynx?

Quite frequently

8:47 PM
@DanielMoura I find hard to see any relevance in your comment. I don't use IE6 either, but I'm not pretending that the world will stop using it.

@DanielMoura - ELinks or whatever it goes by in various distros
or wget
and cat
not for like, going on gmail or anything lol

which of the text based browsers have a good javascript support? Good means it can do form submission and simple stuff like that

@AidenBell what for?

Last time I tried they all failed

@JohntheSeagull - Yea, pretty much nil
unless you know of one
@DanielMoura - News sites, quick googles, BBC News (but they sort of arsed that up)
anyway, im not a permenant text-moder lol, just use it enough that it is nice when a site degrades that far

@rchern didn't you invent the term "StackExchange™ MultiCollider SuperDropdown™" ?

You have joined the likes of Pascal Thivent and Shog9:

@Pascal: You, like Shog9 before you, have Made It. I hereby certify you Internet Famous.

such honor!

10:15 PM
I'm loving search's "said by" and "in room" options. Two points for balpha.
No. You know what? Three points for balpha.

I'm deeply honored, but in all honesty, you'll have to /praise marc for that

@balpha All of those points and more can be yours if you merely implement a /praise marc feature.

/praise @marc
And @rchern congrats on becoming the #5 most active MSO chat user!

One of yinz needs to get on the ball and knock me out of the #2 spot. Are you going to let @TheUnhandledException be the only one to do that?

10:32 PM
We saw what happened to TheUnhandledException. No one deserves that. You keep your spot!

Hello

@Shog9 But it's cursed!

What happened to @The?

He lost his name and became obsessed with XMPP

10:35 PM
Lol

Oh wait. I have no idea what's going on

@LanceRoberts just reading the title I thought "woot, is there a stack-off-flow kind of site now?"... so sad.

I was without internet all day; I'm not sure how you all managed without me, to be honest

@MichaelMrozek YEY!!!! YOU'RE BAAAACCCKKK!!!
@PopularDemand #7 spot. @rchern is beating you

@MichaelMrozek Uh, we didn't. There were... significant casualties.

10:37 PM
@Michael, we had to commit @The

...please let me out of here...
...the food in here is awful...

@TheUnhandledException What numbers are you using?

@PopularDemand Oh I see, you're #2 in The Tavern

@TheUnhandledException Awesome. Thanks!

@PopularDemand Sure. You have some catching up to do ;-)

Q: Highlight the reputation number when cap is reached for the day.

Lance RobertsIt's kind of a pain (when you have a bunch of downvotes you gave or got) to have to compute your rep in the 'Recent Activity' page to see how far you are from the cap. How about we change the color of the rep shown, when the rep cap has been reached for 'Today'? I think it'd be best to have thi...

@LanceRoberts Just got a bit more

@LanceRoberts Eh, that's probably presenting too much information... but I guess it could be helpful to someone. +1

Will some people please vote this great piece of comedy up?

Tim
I was firstest to :P

Good man @Tim :-)

10:54 PM
That's 322 hehe
Not that I have the number memorized or anything...

nooooo
of course not
386 is the only one I have memorized

Q: Ruby Loops with Grandma

585connorOkay, I'm trying to write a ruby simulation of my grandmother. I can't quite get the loop to work the way I'd like though. I want granny to respond with "OH, THAT REMINDS ME OF BACK IN (random year) ..." when you answer her in all caps but I also want her to respond with "WHAT'D YOU SAY...

those are the only 2 i know

@Tim sounds like homework, but the teacher has some humor :)

@Tim , @balpha - Agreed, though Ruby as homework? What are they teaching these days! ... saying that, I got lumbered with Java and even that was an extra-curricular

Tim
11:05 PM
@balpha Yeah, that could be. When I first saw the question title though, I went "Really? Ruby has a gem called Grandma?", since I know nothing about Ruby other than the fact that Rails has that damn snowman. :P

Incidently, "Get off my lawn!" is 15 chars

@AidenBell What, you think that's a coincidence?

hehe
I hoped not

Wow, I just noticed that they've put chat notification in the Collider.

@Tim That is hysterical

11:10 PM
@Lance now we can fill people's inboxes at will
@Lance like
@Lance this
Question fail

Tim
@AidenBell A quick string comparison says...yes.

@Tim - I dunno, we are talking "theoretical"

Tim
@AidenBell This is true. If two things are equal, can one be contained within the other, or is this impossible because the two things are one and the same?

Also, let's hope maths markup doesn't become prolific
The collider doesn't like
@Tim - Scratches chin ... shall I skin up, I don't mind getting deep about the philosophical implications of string equality
@Tim - I would say the answer is 'no', because string A isn't contained in string B as a proper subset

Tim
@AidenBell Whoops, got distracted. Hmm, seems reasonable to me. :P

11:21 PM
@Tim - tackle that one! Someone may want to see if they are OK over on Theoretical Computer Science (@balpha?)

Tim
@AidenBell I'm actually glad that all of those equations didn't render, otherwise my head may have exploded trying to read that.

Dunno who to forward that to.
@Tim - Tell me about it. Dirty dirty stuff

@AidenBell That's just crap. Everyone know that the decompression of a circuit of size greater than [Math Processing Error] will only encode a formula of minimum order [Math Processing Error]. Seriously, that's [Math Processing Error] th grade mathematics.

@balpha - LMFAO

the best part on @Tim's grandma question is the OP's comment on the accepted answer
> Great, that fixed her! Any upside to using .strip over .chomp? – 585connor 22 mins ago

11:28 PM
[Math Processing Error]
Uh oh, I think the star count is broken.

@balpha, nice cultural height on that meme answer (:

Tim
@balpha Hahah

@LanceRoberts Shortening the name to simply Collider is not accepted usage. The full name must always be used.

Bah, fine, don't play along.

play along to...?

11:31 PM
@rchern - Get /b/ style auto-replacement going

@rchern The star count.

@AidenBell, which would be?

if anyone says X it gets replaced with Y
so Collider->[Super]Collider
find and replace. nm.

@AidenBell Irrefutable proof that developers are not, strictly speaking, a necessary part of a software development effort.

@PopularDemand - I can't read that - My eyes are full of tears from laughing at the meme-meta question

11:43 PM
@AidenBell Never seen it before, huh? I understand. I'll give you a moment.

@PopularDemand - I don't really check out meta much. I have no value to add.
lol

@AidenBell Neither does anyone else on Meta, so don't let that stop you.

@PopularDemand lol - The whole Chet Atwood thing made me laugh. If that Rich B is the same Rich B I encountered on SO, wtf happened there?! He was alright.

@AidenBell They're the same dude. But I think I joined at the tail end of his presence, so I don't really "get" him.
It's the fuzz!

@PopularDemand - Hmm, we used to bump into eachother on many a question and exchange +1s ... seems he got the big-old-banhammer. @JeffAtwood is here, maybe he can enlighten us cultural-ignoramuses

11:51 PM
oh yes he is a wonderful person, a joy to be around

now now, i'm not picking any fight ... backs off

haha

Texting of the Bread is everything I dreamed it could be and so much more

texting of the bread?
