9:00 PM
I think @balpha is telling me I should be packing
(or working on XMPP)

Heheh

My plan for world domination is almost complete. I am the #3 user on both MSO and SO chat now! MWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAAA
Now all I need is a death ray

@TheUnhandledException The league of evil minions is taking an obligatory six to eight more weeks to finish that.

@TimStone Awesome. I can wait :-)

@balpha I want you to reimplement chat in the language and design of my choosing because I saw it work somewhere else and have decided to totally ignore the fact that what we currently have works perfectly fine. plzkthnx.

9:10 PM
where have I just heard that before :)

I have no idea, I thought it was an original feature request ;)

/me recalls her comment about people having an open mind (;

@TimStone liar, you're still in that room

@rchern If my mind was open, the scary thoughts would get out.

heh

9:13 PM
@balpha If nothing else, I don't remember any IRC room I've ever been in having epic easter eggs, so.

@TimStone You probably just didn't discover them
Most IRC networks have this awesome easter egg where you type "/me likes actions" and it outputs " MichaelMrozek likes actions "
(let it be known that I won't rest until we have slash commands. If that wasn't already apparent)

\o/

@MichaelMrozek Yes, that must be it. How naive of me.

@rchern Drowning?
Call 911

@rchern You're the chat userscript person. You should get on that

9:15 PM
@MichaelMrozek Get on what? Slash commands?

@MichaelMrozek, there is already a userscript for /me

but i haven't installed it

Oh. Jackpot

the point isn't for /me to look nice to me

9:16 PM
Apparently @rchern is getting credit for the whole chat now.

A: /me command for chat

The Unhandled ExceptionOkay, well this has been a contentious debate but in the spirit of Friday, and the Friday opening a long weekend (here in the US anyway) I propose the following solution, which I hereby make Community Wiki so those jQuery experts out there can improve it: To add support for the /me command, if y...

it is for it to look nice for everyone
@Tim, what?

@TimStone LOL

is fine with it looking like this

in Chat feedback on Stack Overflow Chat, 3 mins ago, by Irwin
"good job"? @rchern worked on this?

9:16 PM
o:

@rchern Agreed

@TimStone We need to encourage this. Anytime @balpha or @MarcGravell indicate they wrote the chat call them liars and defer to @rchern

@MichaelMrozek AHAHAHAHA.

oh gawd

That's tempting... but I'll pass

9:18 PM
Oh, I see, that userscript messes with incoming messages. I want one that intercepts messages I'm sending and does stuff based on their contents

No offense @rchern!

Like I want to be able to type /join 77 and have it join chat feedback, not send that message

@MichaelMrozek LOL. Like what stuff?
Ah
I could write that. But after XMPP integration
In fact XMPP will have some slash commands

/star 240666, that sort of thing

@MichaelMrozek exactly what I planned to do in XMPP

9:19 PM
hmmm

/edit 240666, /star 240666, /delete 240666

@TheUnhandledException I rather like the web interface though, I plan to keep using it

@MichaelMrozek, now that i've got the ids shown on all messages
hmmmmm

@rchern My plan is to somehow identify the most recent 10 messages or so in a way that makes it easy to reference them, like /star A instead of /star ######
But it needs to be a way that doesn't change when a new message comes in
Maybe just cycling through A-J, removing whatever is on the tenth oldest and adding it to the newly incoming message

@MichaelMrozek I love the web interface
I'm just saying
What you described is what I planned for XMPP

9:20 PM
@TheUnhandledException Well, good idea :)

@rchern Do explain?

@TheUnhandledException, i wrote a userscript this morning that shows the id of each message on the right just like the timestamp so that i can do explicit replies without the mouse

@rchern DO WANT!!!!!!!
That's awesome
I like your style @rchern :-)
@TheUnhandledException I can use that to reply to my own messages more easily
As I just proved with the above dyslexia
@rchern I'm loving your timeline userscript

privatepaste.com/ce85377367 github link to the additional plugin is in there
@TheUnhandledException, what's your browser of choice again?

@rchern For SO chat, Chrome. For normal browsing, Safari :-(
Or Firefox if I'm under linux/windows

9:26 PM
Maybe a little IE on the side. And of course Opera

ah, kk. chrome doesn't support @require in userscripts so i was gonna tell you to use that if you didn't use chrome

@MichaelMrozek Neither of those two
@rchern Thanks!

it isn't perfect, but i also spent just a few minutes on it

Safari doesn't support userscripts AFAIK so maybe I'll use Chrome for SO questions too :-)

(hint: edit a message)

9:28 PM
Sec, copying more files to my laptop for my trip :-)
OK so... sorry for being lame @rchern but do you know how I install this in Chrome? :-)

9:44 PM
hello

Hi @Maxim
How are you?

good, you?
what's up
when's Happy Hour?

@MaximZaslavsky I'm going great thanks, since I have next week off :-)
@MaximZaslavsky I think the mods stopped that, they were getting complaints :-(

Or were you being facetious? :-)

9:51 PM
:D

@Chacha102 used to have an automatic popup every day for "Happy Hour", lol

anyway g2g
bye!

@MaximZaslavsky Later!

gah...dang nabit

9:52 PM
@TheUnhandledException Go here: mrozekma.com/so-chat-ids.user.js

@GeorgeMarian That is awesome

@TheUnhandledException Oh, the image is showing up?

@MichaelMrozek Thanks!
@GeorgeMarian I followed the link
The thumbnail was broken

ah, ok

There we go

9:53 PM
There we go. :)

The scotch for programming geeks. :D

I have to try that now @George!

It's pretty decent and not too pricey.

I'm a fan of Dewars myself
Dewar's is a brand of blended Scotch whisky. History Dewar's was created by John Dewar, Sr. in 1846. Under the control of his two sons, John A. Dewar Jr. (Lord Forteviot) and Thomas "Tommy" Dewar (Lord Dewar), the brand expanded to a global market by 1896. Tommy became famous as the author of a travel journal, Ramble Round the Globe, which documented his travels while publicizing the Dewar name. Dewar's eventually expanded their product by constructing the Aberfeldy Distillery in 1896, which produces single malt Scotch whisky under the labels Aberfeldy 12 and Aberfeldy 21. The ...

9:55 PM
Glenlivet is a favorite of mine.

@TheUnhandledException, sorry, was away for a bit. figure out the script?

I'm a single malt kinda guy.

@rchern yes with help from @MichaelMrozek -- thanks!

kk

@rchern Wait. You were "away"?
I thought you were just part of chat!
How can you go "away"? ;-)

9:57 PM
oy

i need to fix it to handle edited messages though

@rchern Not bad for a quick script though!
Damn, something broke my fanatic script
On SO I now have: visited 368 days, 4 consecutive
)`:
Odd because on meta I've visited 153 days, 33 consecutive

heh
That's what you get for trying to game the system. ;)

hehe

10:04 PM
@GeorgeMarian This... is true, sadly

Q: Timestamps: why not human readable?

kenThis: 2010-10-15 00:22:30Z to 2010-10-15 23:59:59Z I didn't naturally associate the "today", etc. links with the timestamps. This isn't a problem unless it's the initial page load, whereby nothing is highlighted: Initial Load

This question makes me sad.

I'm not going to complain about my cheating :-)

@TimStone Um, how is it that question has a net total score of 1 when it has +0 / -1?

@TheUnhandledException Uh, it was rolled back once, maybe that did it?
Seems..wrong though.
I have no idea, I can't see the split on meta.
But now it's time to go out for a bit, so I'll be back later.
faithfully idles

10:07 PM
i see a total of -1

@TimStone Later!
@rchern I just downvoted it

when did you see total=1?

Q: Bug: Viewing total up/down votes incorrect before refreshing

BlueRajaSee this video: http://screencast.com/t/JsMiMbOyyqYU (I'd also like to take this opportunity to point out my last bug request, which was closed as non-reproducible... but can't you just log into my account to reproduce it? I can reproduce it on every machine/browser I've tried it on, but only ...

@rchern Befor I downvoted
@rchern Probably:

A: How can a post have an overall score of +1 with 0 up and 1 down votes?

Marc GravellProbably a race condition on the denormalized data. It seems to be correct now.

Hello

10:18 PM
Hey @Chacha102
I read the SO chat FAQ and cracked up at this part
Can I mute someone?

Occasionally, you simply need to ignore someone - or a busy feed. To hide a user's posts temporarily, click on their avatar to see their user card …

LOL

Someone at SO seems to think you're a good example for the "mute" function @Chacha102

You know what this means right?
I'm officially in the code base for SE!!!!

uh

well ... at least my name will be on every SE Chat FAQ page

10:21 PM
This is true

Which I guess is something to be proud of.

Well the SO Chat FAQ page anyway

Its on Meta too

@Chacha102 wait, YOU'RE NOT TIM!

No..
I was just putting that up as a frame of reference of when these all were taken

10:23 PM
or... ARE YOU?

Well, I feel accomplished today :)
The next few days will have a focus on improving my Javascript development environment

10:55 PM
So what's this Happy Hour? Just a scheduled time to gather?

Scheduled time to drink

So yeah..

Ah yes. If only I had a bottle opener. =/

11:05 PM
^-----> There you go @EndangeredMassa

@TheUnhandledException Nice

11:51 PM
I'm sleeping this workstation now. Might check MSO again later tonight, but will definitely chat while on the road tomorrow
Have a good night everyone! Later @EndangeredMassa, @Chacha102, @MichaelMrozek, @Shog9 and @rchern

@TheUnhandledException, have fun

so long...

See ya
