A pair of ? choices, one has problems elsewhere on the sites and one simply has problems elsewhere; both low candidate scores.
Punches CS.SE.
@Magisch My rant was not wasted.
12:27 PM
oh, nice. Now we get wedding dresses shops spam profiles
@BESW yeah, got that part. Plan to stay for the coffee? ;)
!!/coffee BES
@ShadowWizard brews a cup of Macchiato for @BES
12:42 PM
@Rob yeah, that makes some sense.
New dilemma for me at work. Since programming tasks have been reduced to almost nothing (hence my ongoing activity here), I was kind of re-assigned to do non-programming tasks, e.g. analyze errors and flaws in the system which don't involve code. I don't like it... but I can do it. Should I tell the boss? Try to find something else to do? Last resort is new job of course, but prefer to avoid that for now.... way too lazy for that. lol
@ShadowWizard You can probably at least let your boss know that you prefer one sort of work over the other.
Throw it on more fun, more challenging, whatever (not on 'easier to do' :P)
Perhaps phrase it as a question, ask how long they're expecting you to do this and if/when it would be possible to go back to programming
@ShadowWizard you had been given the opportunity to become a pony. You didn't.
Now, enjoy your slow journey to become a crocodile.
Gone are the days you wrote code....
Embrace the new world of marketing and project management.
(insert evil laugh here)
@Tinkeringbell yeah, but... what I prefer is pure programming, and that part is... almost non existent. :(
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Link at end of answer (60): Cleaning 5 1/4 floppy drives by soho-voip-phone on retrocomputing.SE
@Derpy lol.... luckily for me, it's neither marketing nor project management so far. :)
12:52 PM
... so far ....
@ShadowWizard If you can't do that within your current company (and you did get in there doing that)... it's not to weird to ask if/when there will be programming to do again. If there won't be, it's time to go check whether you want to go through the hassle of finding another job, or stick with this because 'it isn't so bad'
More like getting client's report about some problem, making initial analysis, find the one who can solve this (usually not me), and be the middle-man in this whole thing.
@Tinkeringbell yeah, that's about what I thought also. Thanks!
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog flag please
I think I've been pretty clear that's what I expect
A flag means any mod who's free can handle it
I was in the middle of gaming when you pinged.
What game?
AC origins
Its kinda pushes all the good buttons for me (sneaking around shooting people in the face) and since its older, I got it on a discount
12:58 PM
I played one, didn't like it very much. Prefer RPG stuff.
amusingly I accidentally dropped into a boss fight while doing something else and... er... managed to tactically kill the enemy
that's to say, the enemy was cheating so I worked out how to best counter him
and suprisingly it worked
.... initiate reforming protocol-> v-ID 284#cat
Look at the trailer for the new game, @JourneymanGeek

surrender your mind to the cute kitties
repent thy sins and convert to the cult of the cat.
@ShadowWizard worst I had was half-life 2
I got stuck for 2 days at the end, then saw how to finish in a dream.
I love my subconscious
@JourneymanGeek whaaaat?? lol
I played HL2 loooooong ago, but only multiplayer, with some friends.
1:15 PM
We were four, one is a real gamer and always killed 99% of the enemies, the rest of us just... followed behind and tried not to get in his way. lol
Lemme put it this way.. I play on easy
oh lol
Think we played the default, whatever it was
Is it even relevant in multiplayer?
Multiplayer HL2? Perhaps mods?
Or... did you mean L4D2?
@andmyself oh wait
LOL yeah
Both got "L"
And "2"
The only shooters game I really liked was Doom. The original. DOS.
Then the difficulty is relevant, between Easy (no friendly fire) and Hard (1 shotgun/sniper on the head and your friend's down...)
1:20 PM
Usually hilarity ensues, like when I was using scope, then my friend casually passed me and got headshot by me...
you should just try Nier Automata...
@andmyself Imagine it happen in real life
Q: People vote reputation, myth or reality?

Raydel MirandaHypothetic situation: You answer a question, a couple of minutes later another user with much more reputation than you post the same answer. And that's all for you in that question! All votes go for the second answer(the same as yours) which author has more way reputation. My question is: ...

I know the real issue is different here but isn't that kinda part of how it's supposed to work?
Yes and no
More experienced users see high reps doing stupid stuff often enough to learn to ignore rep when voting
1:34 PM
But newish users, usually no
Of course in similar cases I haven't ever seen the answer by the newbie not getting ANY upvotes but maybe SO is different
Remember the developer build for this year that's only 64GB? Our hope (because I was unable to find out for sure), is a UEFI BIOS update will allow 128GB on our motherboard due to newer 32GB DIMMs arriving. That process has started to happen with other boards, so I'm hopeful: https://twitter.com/anandtech/status/1087697890351464448
I remember when 128gb was 2 server grade chips. Then I realise that was only a few years ago
I remember when smart phones had 200 megabytes of RAM
(also, SE developer hardware typically makes me drool.)
Damn, where are we going with all this data? Ultimately more relevant dating sites, probably
1:39 PM
I could use one of those. Well in a manner of speaking
Terabytes of "zomg lol ftw hears me n bae havig lunch"
seems they skipped my suggestion to try Nier very hard mode
I came back here because I suddenly couldn't load questions on SE app...
O well, time to try again...
1 hour later…

@Shog9 Better to add new groups on top so they don't shift the older ones ^
Nice! 👍
@MySharona long time no see 😲
having 11k helpful flags without posts on main site is... surprising, eh
Ideal stalker! ;)

Hi. I have noticed some user avatars that are imported via google are broken due to google changing the image url. (see e.g. cs.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/1581/…) While I doubt SE can do something about this directly, it might be a good idea to put some guidance for users on how to fix this somewhere. Is this already discussed somewhere? Or should I put a new question up?
@Discretelizard I'd recommend putting a new question up
@JourneymanGeek Ok, then I'll do that.
3:51 PM
@JourneymanGeek I hate to say this... but I have yet to see applications that aren't benchmarks actually use that much ram... maybe workstation level stuff.
@Mgetz I used to work vfx
also, I dude can dream ;p
@JourneymanGeek workstation level stuff
that's where you really want a Xeon and ECC ram, or a threadripper
and probably a few quadros
I'm trying to work out if I can replace my current desktop with something more up to date and something a lot more modest than that ;p
I remember going onto some of the vendor websites to see just how insane a professional grade system you could put together and seeing systems with quad sockets and 3TB of ram
they required PSUs that required two 20A circuits
and yes that's multiple power supplies
4:20 PM
@TimStone: would you be open to changing the comment link helper to use https://, always?
meh. who needs security ....
@MartijnPieters Oh, yeah. I forgot I hadn't done that
