The idea was to move somewhere like the Sci-Fi site, where there could be more users.

Exactly because there are more users, you'll get spotted and have your room deleted for "this is not a create-your-own-chat-room".

The fewer users your subdomain targets, the safer you'll be.

Yup. Possible choices for where to move include scifi.stackexchange.com , rpg.stackexchange.com , gaming.stackexchange.com . But it also works here.
