@SPArchaeologist I'M WATCHING SEASON 5!!!

@James Yay! S5 so far has been pretty great. Also, had some pretty interesting episodes with some good themes (that kids will probably not notice)

@James that said, if you at least watched the premiere, then I hope you loved the Harrison Bergeron (and general dystopia) reference they pulled out there.

I did love the theme's. I didn't get that it was a specific reference to anything in particular but I did get that they were going for a pony dystopia feel.

@James well, I don't actually know if they had the Harrison novel specifically in mind... but as many stated it is oddly similar.

Basically it describes a future where America has a law that forces equality between people, to the point to force people to wear an handicap if some of his/her stats is to high.

For example if you are too beautiful, you may end up with an iron mask on your face.

thats.... terrifying

Since it is somehow stated that loosing the cutie mark actually handicaps the pony (if you noticed, the backer in the town can't manage to bake good muffins without her mark) the reference may have been planed

That's a distinct possiblity

Anyway, how many episodes did you see so far? only to avoid any spoiler.
